I shop at this location at least once a month and compared to other Sephora's I've been to, this one stands out. They always have lots of staff who are always available and check on you as you shop. Sephora is my go to for makeup. They have amazing selection and always have plenty of each item in stock which I love. Today I stopped in to re up on my foundation. Needless to say it is one of the colors they do not carry in store anymore. The girl did recommend the same brand in the new formula they launched which is 24 hr instead of 15 hr. I got a sample just because the one I usually get is my ride or die. It's just the perfect amount of a dewy glow with full coverage. Basically gold in a bottle. I also ended up snagging the setting powder that goes with the foundation. Each associate that ended up helping me was super sweet and had multiple recommendations to substitute my foundation which is nice but I like what I like and don't want to switch. Although they don't carry my color anymore I will still be shopping here for all my other makeup needs. read more

Every visit to this Sephora has been a positive experience. Especially my last visit. I wanted to return an item that I had ordered online. It was a weekday but the store was packed. There was a long queue for the cashiers. I could tell that the employees were trying to help customers as fast as they could, but some customers like to take their time regardless of how many people are waiting for them to finish. While waiting a staff was handing out free samples to everyone in line and apologizing for the wait. It took awhile but I was able to return my item without any issue. After I decided to see if I could get a sample for an acne product I wanted to try. The employee I asked for help immediately stopped what she was doing to help. Not only did she help me, she also took time to explain the product and ask me questions to see if she could help me find other products that would help. She grabbed three other items that she recommended and explained each one, then she made samples for me with printed directions and labels. Stopped in today for a 60 min make up sesh and Alyssa completely blew my mind!!.I didn't have a look picked out that she could reference I just told her a few things I wanted and she killed it!!! My make up came out better than I could have imagined it would've. I also don't know very much about make up techniques and she answered all my questions and explained to me how to contour and stuff. I've been buying beauty products from Sephora for years and this is the first time that I had to deal with ignorant and worthless staff due to their awful customer service. Negative stars for the worse two employee at this particular location: Leo, working the register and the self-claimed manager at the time, miss useless Kelly. I came in today to exchange the Sephora brand lipstick color for another shade and was told I couldn't because I didn't have a receipt. Since I'm a beauty insider member, they pulled up and saw that I bought the lipstick at the JC Penny Sephora so I was told by both of these ignorance (Leo and Kelly) that I'd have to go there to do my exchange and there was nothing they could've done. Great customers service is about accommodating your long time customers, which these two have no training on and clearly lack. There are many beauty stores out there and if Sephora keeps hiring these ignorance representing their brand, it'll soon be out of business because there's always gonna be the next best thing. Needless to say, when we got to the Sephora at JC Penny, the staff didn't have access to pull up my beauty insider and they too mentioned that their return policy has changed. However, they went out of their way to accommodate me and allowed me to exchanged the lipstick to a different shade. Voila... that's what great customer service is!! Don't know if it was the holiday season, but this store seemed a little unkempt. The lady I was asking to help me find my right foundation seemed to pick up one shade from one brand and put it on my face and didn't suggest any others or bothered to see that the foundation was way too light for my skin tone. I just wanted to start by saying I have ROUGE status. And you'll see that my Sephora Rouge status doesn't change the way they treat me. Or you since most Sephora workers are plain snobby. LIZETTE was NOT friendly at all when I was at the register. She was so incredibly snobby right from the start. Who does she think she is? The CEO of the store?? Most of the girls that work here are rude. They quickly walk past you like you're not there, don't make eye contact while doing so, and give off a vibe "Don't approach me. I'm busy with something much more important than any concern or question you may have." Lizette (Bleached blond hair with several noticeable tattoos) works INCREDIBLY SLOW at the register. She takes her sweet time for sure. Even I could work faster on a register than her ON MY FIRST DAY. It definitely made me feel like she did things purposefully slow so that the other customers waiting in line would be helped out by other people working the registers. I only gave this a 3 star because of two super helpful people who helped me. One of them is Ruby (An African American woman whose lovely and educated) and another Asian guy who was very patient with finding the right concealer shade for both my face and under eyes. They were awesome! Other than that, the feeling I get here from the other girls who work here isn't pleasant because of their snobby attitudes. GOOD LUCK WITH GETTING FREE SAMPLES TOO. I asked for samples at the front desk after making my purchase which was around $220.00 and the girl just says to me "We ran out. Sorry" and one of the employees shortly prior gave me a free SPF sample. I didn't believe her, and didn't want her to think that I'm foolish to believe her so I asked "Not even Sunscreen samples?" She was like, "..... Nope. Sorry." I knew she was lying, probably because she didn't want to put in more effort to get me my 3 free samples when I just made a $200 purchase. I didn't want to deal with her attitude, since it wasn't worth the free samples. This has not been the 1st time either. At another Sephora, I would ask for samples and they would say "Of what?" in a blunt way. The tone is almost like a challenging kind of tone, like "OK, what do you want then !?" I thought they would provide 3 free random samples along with any of your purchases. It's just rude when they say, "What do you want a sample of?" Then, when I think of an example... they say we don't carry those kinds. We only carry this kind of makeup and this kind, etc. WELL HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT? Its near Valentines day and I was thinking of giving that special person a perfume. Well I kind of want to smell what I want to smell. :3 So going through each section of perfume aisle I was assisted by this nice young lady... I forgot her name, but she had curly short blonde hair and very friendly. She went over what would be the best selection after hearing what I prefer, which was soothing, attracting, and comfortable. She quickly suggested 5 different perfume/cologne from different brand. From those five, I chose one from Calvin Klein. It smelled amazing and I felt like it was dreamy smell. While at it, she suggested me other products such as hand cream and some other products that aren't over priced. I enjoyed the sampling the whole section without having to feel like a free loader. I decided to get one for myself. From the start to finish, I was assisted and was able to get out of the store with what I needed quickly. Located on 1st floor, near food court and Apple store. It's always hard to rate a retail store because if its based off their online website, I would give Sephora a 5-star. Due to varies staff, I experienced the most helpful to the most useless clerks here, so 3 star it is. My number one disappointment here at Brea's Sephora was that their tester utensil station was empty for the most part, so I wasn't able to test the foundation, lip gloss, or anything without using my own fingertips (gross). Sephora has everything you want in makeup, skincare, fragrance, and hair care. You can always ask for skincare and fragrance samples in stores, limit 3 per person. Sephora has everything on display, so it's a great way to check out the products before purchasing. They also have exclusive sets that are only sold in Sephora's and worth checking out seasonally. The best time to shop is during November when they offer 20% off everything in store online and in stores...just join their VIB! It's their points reward system and they always have something additional for your birthday. I would definitely save the points till 500, don't waste your points for the 100 points gift unless you are never shopping at sephora. Bottom line, Sephora is the best place for makeup junkie!!! read more

Sephora is honestly THE SPOT for your makeup needs. Every girl who is obsessed with their makeup haul comes here. However, this review is strictly for the customer service and knowledge of the employees at this location. This Sephora is insanely busy any time of the week. It doesn't matter if it's lunchtime on a Wednesday, or Saturday morning. They really do have great business here. However, it leads to a lack of service due to the fact that they are constantly busy. That's still no excuse. The first few times I had arrived in Sephora, the ladies are quick to hand you a little basket to place your haul while shopping. Based off of what you purchase or what you have in your hand, that's how they really determine how bad they want to help you. I suppose the credit you get when you mention their name at the register matters more than actually assisting customers just because of the principle. If you request for a sample or ask for help in regards to one item and they have another customer who is ready to drop $100, you can tell who they'd rather help. I've had ladies brush me off or rush in assisting me because I was asking about one item. Also, the employees here aren't as knowledgeable as they're supposed to be. I've done this several times where I ask up to three different employees which shade matches my skin tone better, or what is the "warm" tone and the "cool" tone and I kid you not, I have received a different answer each time. Two ladies in one setting did my "color" match with their new system, and both gave me two VERY different ranges. One was so dark it was obvious just by looking at the color code, and the other was beyond light. I ended up doing the work myself and figured out what was my actual color code. Location, location, location. Its important in real estate. However many people may not realize its also important in cosmetics. The other Sephora locations are too far out of my immediate area. I don't want to go to Downtown Disney or the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica to shop for cosmetic goodies. I also don't want to fight through crowds of tourists and pay for parking. Ick! This Sephora is located in a good old fashioned American capitalist mall. You know, the place where you can get an Orange Julius, a hot dog on a stick and t-shirt from The Gap all in one stop with the convenience of air conditioned comfort. As stated in other reviews, I love cosmetics. Sephora is the female equivalent of what Fry's Electronics is to men. Not only can I browse here for hours, I can easily drop a $100 if I'm not careful. Word of caution: if you sample the tester items, please please PLEASE use some common sense! Wipe a lipstick before AND after trying it on! Use a new sponge or applicator everytime you sample a product. I wish I could give a ZERO star but Yelp you are too kind. As a makeup junkie I hit Sephora on a regular basis. Normally I shop at the South Coast Plaza location (and will from now on) but this time I was in a rush and the Brea location was on my way home. The girls here are so rude! I'm a very patient person being that I have worked retail before, but I couldn't take the attitude problem that was reeking from the girl who was "helping" me. First I couldn't get anyone to help me for 10 mins. I finally find someone who didn't look busy and asked for some assistance in finding a lipstick since most of the labels on their shelf's had been rubbed off. She looked at me and rolled her eyes and said without looking "we probably don't have it", I asked her could she look anyways "because it's a standard color by Dior and I saw it on your website". She rolls her eyes again and says "fine", as she is looking through the colors she starts yelling into her headset "can someone PLEASE come change customers with me!". She continues to yell rude things into her headset about wanting someone to take over for her. She does this about 6 more times while I'm standing right next to her. I guess doing her job was too difficult for her so she passed me onto one of her coworkers. Her coworker looked surprised since I wasn't acting like some raging lunatic for being treated this way. I put my basket down with all the stuff I had planned on buying and walked out. Not one single employee even tried to stop me. I understand it was a Saturday and the store was busier than usual but don't treat me like crap or as if my business doesn't matter just because you have a bug up your @$$ about something. This location needs a reality check. The South Coast location is always WAY busier but I can always get help and have never been treated badly. Leave the attitudes at home girls! read more

I love Sephora. It's my one-stop shop for all things beauty! Service here can vary though. I highly prefer coming here on weekdays for a relaxed shopping experience. Weekends are somewhat hectic and the employees have their hands full. I'm especially happy with my recent experience. I was sampling a bunch of fragrances in-store but was only satisfied with one, Versace Bright Crystal. So, I asked one of the employees for further recommendations. She had me sample no less than 10 fragrances and I thought they were all fantastic! Her recommendations were spot-on; I really felt like she "got" me. She made me some samples and I recently purchased my new fragrance. I wish I asked her name because she deserves a positive shout out! Also, the skincare specialist there is also incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I'm not sure if she's the manager but she doesn't wear the standard uniform. During my most recent visit, I handed the cashier $20.11 for a $20.06 purchase and she took a full minute to present me with $0.03. Calculators needed? Haha. read more

First, it has to be said, I usually don't give bad reviews. I'm a 'glass half full' kind of girl. And I do realize that it is Christmas shopping season. That being said, this store was a TOTAL disappointment! I LOVE Sephora and spend so much there, that I'm a VIB. VIB just means you get extra discounts for being a loyal customer, but you have to spend so much per year to get that designation. I travel to Brea, CA for work frequently, and the Brea Mall is an awesome mall. It's in a great location with all the stores I love. Last week I was in town and I actually needed some stuff from Sephora. Imagine that; I usually go there whether I need anything or not :). Anyway, I went to the mall Thursday, with some specific items in mind and I went straight to Sephora. The mall was pretty much jammed with people. Again, Christmas shopping season. Sephora was no exception. And that's great, but I was totally disappointed with the selection of the products I needed. I usually am able to find what I need on my own, and I was asked if I needed help. Eventually I asked where the Buxom products were and the sales girl didn't have any idea what I was talking about. She showed me the Bare Escentuals area and there was no Buxom. Total disappointment. Eventually, I found the Buxom products, that were in a very small area totally separate from the other Bare Escentuals stuff. But the testers were nasty and the products available were very picked over and some had been opened. I eventually found an unopened/unused pencil and moved on, more than a little grossed out. I went on to look for the brow pen I like and they didn't have that either. Most of their tester items were terribly dirty or all used up. Products had not be replenished on the floor and I spent way too much time trying to find what I needed! After being asked if I needed help, I went back to the same girl and started to ask for help. At that point, she said she was too busy to help me. Fine. I get it. It's busy. But COME ON! Everyone is busy, including me. I was way too busy to have to spend so much time in a store trying to find what I needed. In the end, I found a few things I was looking for and had to try something new for the items they didn't have in stock. Not a bad ending to this story, but in the future, I would probably rather order my things online and have them delivered to my hotel room while I'm in town, than deal with going back to this store. Sephora has great products, I went and bought a lot ( over $300 make up products) today. but they should have a better customer service and merchant system. Ok. I want to be fair. The some of their sales are good with customer service, they helped me to find the right products. The bad experience was at the Cashier. 1, Cashier asked for my card to get pre authorize stating that it's over $300, so she needs to do a pre authorization over the phone. ( really? Just $300, Sephora ?) 2, I said ok. After her phone call, she gave me my card back asked me to run the credit card machine. I did. Then I got a call from American Express security right after , saying " there are two attempt charges at the same amount. they didn't prove the second transaction , but proved the first translation. 3, Cashier told me they my card didn't go though, it shows" transaction is not completed at the same time I was on the phone with the AE rep. 4,The manager kept on told me my card has problem, they never received my funds. 5, I tried to explain to the manager, there are two attempts , they did prove one, but maybe sephoia didn't accept it. 6,the manager gets so pissed at me, she is almost at yelling point, while I was on phone with AE rep. I don't think she understands where the problem from, all she wants is telling me " you didn't pay anything, there is no transaction is made". she thinks my card or AE has problem. 7,I understand what happened, when sephora required Pre-Authorization, the new merchant system sent a Request to My AE card, however it appeared as Charge and released the funds to sephora. So when they tried to charge again which AE has already released my funds, so it reads as a double charge. 8, I had the same issue happened once before for a large amount because of the company used a new merchant service company, the pending charge was on my credit card for almost 10 days. The company investigated and apologized to me for the trouble. 9 here is the point: This manager at sephora, never thought any problem at their end, kept on telling me it's my card's problem or AE problem. The transaction is not completed. No, it's not. The transaction is completed at my end. My credit card statement has 2 transaction , however if sephora didn't take the money, then it will eventually fall off, and back to my credit card. 10, I did pay again, now I have to completely trust Sephora that my $333 first charge will fall off on my card. 11, At the ends when I am leaving , the manager trying to be nice - gave me a tote bag as a gift but said this is your gift, because of your credit card company didn't explain well to you. I guess the manager still didn't get it. Sorry, if you still don't understand, it's your merchant system problem, and also sephora's problem. All I want was paying for my products. And my AE card has no problem to pay $300, even $300k at once. 12, I never saw a large company run to Pre authorize a $300 purchase... Come on, Just give some trust on your vip customers. Nordstrom doesn't run pre authorize purchase even for 10k. I am not sure if it's only policy on me or for everyone ? If it's only me then it's another problem. read more

A couple of months ago, I might have given this location a two or even one star review because the customer service was awful. The staff walked around, chatted with each other, rarely asked if anyone needed help, and looked put-upon whenever I asked for assistance with anything. I love Sephora, I shop there frequently, and I don't mind spending extra for quality makeup where the parent companies and the subsidiaries don't test on animals. But this one formerly left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. Fortunately, the last few visits, I've noticed a change for the better. In fact the customer service level there has skyrocketed to the point where it should be. As part of their rewards program, Sister and I were invited for a no-purchase-necessary makeover, which we took advantage of yesterday. The makeup artist, Raelle, was extremely knowlegeable and friendly, and she did Sister's 'bronzed goddess' look and my 'brighter eyes' look to perfection, listening to our skin care concerns (ugh I hate sensitive skin!) and suggesting products to try while not trying to upsell anything. Before I got my makeup done, my skin was prepped by another team member whose name I can't recall (thanks, chemo brain) and she did such a wonderful job, using products that didn't irritate my skin and sending me off with product samples to try at home. This is the closest Sephora to me, so I'm pretty stoked to know that I can come back here without feeling bitchy, because the staff is wonderful by comparison to a couple of months ago. read more

I recently went in to get my make up done for a philanthropy event.i had 4 hours of sleep, bags under my eyes, and it was safe to say i was in need of the make up Gods to save me! Thankfully I got paired up with a consultant i Believe her name was Brina! She was blonde with great red lipstick! Anyways, Brina did a fabulous job! She used products that she knew I would like based off my descriptions of what I typically wear. She also gave me the fantastic red lip that she had! I came here a bit ago to stock up on my Bare Escentuals foundation because I received a coupon in my email. The store was hardly busy so when I noticed my shade was out of stock, and after much searching, I found an employee to check the back. She seemed annoyed with the request. And it might've just been paranoia but she seemed to judge the fact that I was in gym clothes. When she finally returned, she wouldn't even hand me the shade I asked for; she kind of shoved them back into the shelf and walked away. On numerous visits, the employees are either "too busy" or don't care enough to be friendly and helpful. The people at the register, however, are usually kind and courteous. The Beauty VIP has been a great incentive for me to shop at Sephora but I think I'll stick to online purchases or buy my products from department stores from now on. read more

This location is always low on stock/inventory. They're always out of the product or shades that I need. Also, a lot of their employees need a major refresher on customer service. On a few occasions, I have gone into this Sephora in search of a specific product... And when I would come up to an employee to ask for help, they would completely ignore me and walk away! What the hell?! And when they're not ignoring customers, you can find them chit chatting with one another. That would be fine and all if they did so WHILE ALSO HELPING CUSTOMERS. First of all, this store is nicely organized, lots of space to walk around. Unlike the Sephora in Downtown Disney, that one is WAY too cramped. Anyways, I came here looking for some false eyelashes. I love the falsies look but I am HORRIBLE at putting them on so I asked one of the Beauty Studio girls, her name was Brittany, if after I purchased the lashes if I could have them put on. I really loved her personality, you can tell she genuinely enjoys her job. She went the extra mile for me and added some Urban Decay eyeliner on top of my lashes for the perfect effect. She explained what she was doing as she did it, for example; she explained that the new fall trend is a short wing eyeliner (looks awesome) and crimson lips. Now I hardly ever write reviews unless I feel it is Necessary and worth my time. With that being said...this is why.. I have been coming back to this store numerous times because of the Amazing customer service provided by Diana Biag. Now every time I come into the store I always ask for her. Each experience I have had with her has always been down to earth and truly fun filled with non stop laughter. Her, as a person, is just a bonus. Now on to her skills with her artistry in make up...I don't know how she knows, but she is always on point with the perfect match on my skin. Whether it be my foundation, my eyes, or my lips...I am always more than satisfied with my results! Whenever I leave the store, I always feel like a Model when I walk out. Really? This Sephora has been my 'home' Sephora since it opened. I don't think it ever warranted anything under a 3 star but reading the other reviews, maybe I just didn't pay as close attention. Anyway, this Sephora is great! The store size is average, the place is kept clean, and I never have a problem getting samples or exchanging/refunding things (which is really a test of customer service, I found). I'm a VIB and this is where I always buy things, if not online. When I call them, they're always friendly and helpful. In store, I don't have difficulty getting help but they also don't harass me with questions either. The perfect balance! read more
