Sephora was recently renovated and it is such a wonderful store with a variety of affordable to high labeled products. You can basically get any makeup here and what I really love about this place is you get to come in with a naked face and either put your makeup on yourself or a Sephora team member will go ahead and assist you. I have a lot of fun coming here and choosing products and playing with makeup. I encourage anybody who needs to get a makeover, you should check this place out. They do have some special for people who buy a certain amount, I believe they get a free makeover. read more

I was trying out one of the rice powder cleansers, mixing it on my hand and observing the consistency of the mix. When I had finished examining it, I approached an sink to remove it from my hand. I was immediately scolded by a staff member who reprimanded me for using the sink since it wasn't a real sink and the powder would clog it. There are no signs explaining this, and well, if someone had actually approached me and helped me, I may not have done this. I was so disgusted with the place and the reprimanding that even though I was planning to purchase the cleanser, I just walked out. I will go to Ulta or order it on Amazon. Customer service, like makeup, is an art. So how the two don't go hand in hand at this company is beyond me. The staff were extremely rude. There was a mix up in my VIB rouge card and while what looked like the general manager apologized (and he didn't even have to, it was my local Sephora that screwed up) the cashier treated me like I was attempting fraud. And the GM just let her. Also my name is "complicated" so I always give cashiers the card to read my name. She got it wrong and said this is why it's easier if you say it (very rude tone). I apologized but I really shouldn't have. It's not my fault if you can't read and everyone I've ever encountered otherwise thanked me because it's been easier for them. I was being polite unlike this cashier, so treating me, the customer, like I was at fault for trying to help her? Insane. I wouldn't agree that the Sephora is racist (cashier was black other rude women white-so equal opportunity aholes) just unusually rude and arrogant. It's a Sephora, a glorified Ulta. There's no luxury about it. Get over yourselves. Other issues of the employees treating me and my other guest rudely (expecting us to move for them while browsing without saying excuse me-we had no idea they were there for a bit, they didn't say anything just stood behind us creepily with apparently a far more important customer; no greeting when walking in; little things that added up but could have been excused if not for the cashier). Won't be coming back to this one. The Rouge program itself doesn't seem like it's giving much back to me so I'm not sure what the perks are if you're treated like this. read more

If you're not white, don't shop here. Employees have severe racial biases. There have been several times where I have been in this store for upwards of 20 minutes without having been offered help (unless it was a black employee). However, if I'm caught doing something "wrong" like checking a product to make sure it hasn't been used before I purchase it, suddenly I exist to the white employees who will then sprint over to reprimand me. Today while in the store, I saw some interesting packaging that I wanted to take picture of (Christian Louboutin nail polish). I took out my phone and snapped a pic. Again, prior to doing this NO ONE spoke a word to me or offered help and I had been in the store for at least 15 minutes. After I took the pic an employee ran over (literally RAN) and said "Sorry, you aren't allow to take pictures of the products in the store!" Ummm, ok?!? Weird rule, but whatever. The problem I had was that I never saw this employee say anything to the white teeny boppers that were a few feet away from me snapchatting away. Sephora's motto for black girls seems to be the following: Ignore and don't offer help, but all eyes and ears when they doing something you don't approve of? Hmmmm.... ok. Pollute some more so that we can get mutant plants eating our babies some day in the future. Seriously, it's fun that there is so much free shit to try, but wow if your trash cans don't end up looking like Zoolander has been cleaning-up after coal mining again. 3. THE SCIENTIST Do you have any idea how much of everything the cosmetics industry pedals is total bollocks? Active ingredients: aqua, stearate, lipids... so that's water, soap and fat, right? Well, Sephora is no exception. In my metrosexual search for some expression line remover, they thrust $100 tiny bottles of serum on me that countless internet sites have declared 'complete rubbish'. What's wrong with the $25 serum bottles you stock... oh, they're no good... not the right active ingredients. Well, Sephora here's the thing - none of them show any proof of ever working anyway and the active ingredients are all BS anyway, save a few. Besides, why stock stuff your staff thinks is no good? This is quite a Sephora store. Much better than the one in Cambridge at the Galleria. If you have to choose go to this one. The customer service at this location is really good. The girls know their stuff. They know what the products are and how to use them. It is a really big store which is good and means that it has a lot to offer. You can get a sample of anything you want here. I mean it absolutely anything they sell, they will give a sample. You can always try it, before you buy it! Sephora has a great reward program as well. You have a magic card that you use every time you make a purchase. With each purchase you get points. Once you have500 points you can get a prize. Like a really good makeup prize. Or you can let it ride and just keep getting more points. The more points you get the better and bigger the prizes are. They even send you booklets and flyers with coupons for more samples and even a Birthday gift. Love it! read more

This is a pretty run of the mill Sephora. Lots of makeup, lots of teenagers. The only difference between this Sephora and other locations that I have visited is the amount of makeup artists on the floor. Sometimes I feel like they outnumber the patrons and that is pretty badass. It's easy to find someone to help you with a new look, and I have never waited for a makeup application here. They are so quick I sometimes come into get my makeup done when I don't even have any plans and I just want to look good while I do dishes. Just kidding. I don't do dishes. read more

The business-savvy entrepreneur in me loves their business model: no hassle returns, frequent buyer perks, unlimited samples of anything you want in the store. The girly makeup addict in me loves the enormous selection and unmatched quality of the brands they carry. Do I vouch that every single Sephora employee is a kind-hearted, non-judgmental, laissez-faire doll with a heart of gold? No! Please. It's a cosmetics store people, not a suicide hotline. A makeup aficionado, I tend to wave those girls away before they get within five feet of me anyway. When I come here to the promised land, I already know what I'm looking for, so I don't really need their assistance in shopping. If they're out of stock of something I need (not too common, but it does happen sometimes) they always offer to have it either sent to the store or shipped to my house for free. They will even make me a sample of whatever it was to hold me over. Perks: Beauty Insider card is kind of cool, points for every purchase, which can be redeemed for cool mini-sized versions of various items. Around your birthday, they give you a free gift. Awesome coupons emailed on the reg (20% off, $20 off purchase, holiday bonuses, etc). "VIB" status for big spenders gets you even more goodies. And again, I really can't stress this enough-- free samples of anything you want. Don't be shy, just ask. There is a great men's section as well. Bring your boys. Under the guidance of a friend, I made my first foray into the world of Sephora. To be honest, I never really saw myself going here. At least not if left to my own devices (being dragged and left in the corner though, yeah, that would be something I could see happening - I'm glad to say this was not the case). After my initial and minor culture shock of watching her do some personal shopping (which, kindly, wasn't very long), we headed to the back corner where they keep the men's items. I've never really been fond of the idea of dropping money on bottles of smell-good without knowing if it will work with my natural scent or not. With Sephora, it's not really and issue. They will give samples at request. Guys, find a couple you like and ask them to make you sample. Apparently, you can do this with anything in the store. I think that is a fantastic and very customer friendly business move. I picked out two that I liked and was given tiny little vials with enough to try for about a week or so each. This is so much better than going somewhere, getting one application, hoping to have someone smell you at some point, and having them say "Hey, you smell good!" I also snaked some facial lotion from a tester and put it on while there. About five minutes later, I decided to buy it. Now I know that has nothing to do with this great store directly. But to me it strikes at the heart of quality. I will be returning here to pick up the scent I decide on soon. And who knows, maybe I'll grab a sample or two of something else while I'm there. read more

Let's put it this way I love the one in Burlington hate the one at the Pru. The store itself always gives me the picked over feel. The help seems to have a cotton swab stuck up their butt because everytime you ask them a question they act like you are a complete moron for asking. They don't have good product knowledge after asking about a product that clearly stated concealer on it they claimed it was in fact not a concealer. Ok so the package is wrong and your right? Yeah ok. I thought I might be wrong and I gave this place a second shot the second experience was no better than the first. Do yourself a favor and find a different Sephora or shop on their website. BTW- The one star is for after complaining to the manager about the piss poor service she gave me a gift bag full of samples. This place makes homegirl feel dirrrttyyyyyyyyyyyyy. First time I went in to try and get a "makeover" the woman used all Dior. She was super friendly, although sort of yelled at me for crying. She was using liquid liner on a makeup semi-virgin! My eyes were all sensitive and whatnot! I don't wear makeup on the regular and was not used to someone being all up in my eye space. Back story: I grew up with 4 guys and my mom worked nights. I didn't start attempting makeup until I was like.. a senior in high school. And that was just colored lip gloss. ANYHOO. Second time I went in because I think it was my birthday (and we know I'm not classy enough to pull off Dior for all day/everyday wear). The woman was like.. "I'm going to put sin on your eyes.. orgasm on your cheeks.." Wait HOLD up. Before you touch my lips.. can't we go old school and get.. strawberry goodness or berry berry (oh wait, that's a misspelled disease, righ?). Seriously.. I went from class to sass in two sessions. Although, I do love me Nars orgasm blush. If only I could make myself not look like a Strawberry Shortcake on meds. You do feel kind of obligated to buy something after they're done. People like me buy almost everything they put on. I do admire that they have the rainbow coalition on the floor though. Rarely have I had a woman really know how to deal with Asian skin. Not only do I have in between skin (I'm not Chinese pale, but I'm not the usual dark Filipino girl) but I have sometimes had an allergic reaction to certain make up. Never to anything that has been suggested at Sephora. Blinding.. but fun to go around and try things out. I've never really encountered a snooty sales rep. Oh there is no place like Sephora. This location is usually packed bc it's in a mall, but they carry so much and I can usually find someone to help me People complaining about prices?! It's not Sephora but the brands. Ugh ignorant people. I love the VIP membership and being able to use the 20% coupon a couple of times a year. You can use it for anything, even perfumes. Sephora is the only place I know that will give discount on cosmetics. Macys and Bloomingdales, always exclude cosmetic. I came in to get new makeup and figured I might as well get a makeover :) It's $50.00 min (easy to do...unfortunately) It took about 45 minutes and while Zoreida (sp?) was putting my makeup on, she was also explaining every step she took! Granted, there's no way I'll be able to recreate that masterpiece she did! Also, some of the products were super expensive so afterwards I asked her for a similar product at a lower price- she was happy to show me! Yay love not being ripped off! Ummm. Amy F in skincare did an amazing job helping me with my skin. She pretended not to be disgusted with my lackadaisical skin care, ("Oh, I see. You only wash your face sometimes, and "So, SPF should be worn even if you're in a cloudy place.") and gave me frank advice about what works and what doesn't. Really knowledgeable and has an idea of the bottom line for people like me. Some of the other staff in the beauty section were a little bitchy (read, "um, we don't have samples of that" and the subtext is, "plus you're disturbing our conversation with eachother about things that matter, like who our coworkers are having sex with.") Kind of like Jon Snow in his trip beyond the Wall when he's headed to the Haunted Forrest and encounters the wildling sentries, this was a rather frigid experience... One girl in the fragrance dept. was nice but I was pretty much only offered a "Let me know if you want anything" pitch once during my entire HOUR shopping in the store. Now I understand cosmetics and fragrances/etc. are massively female oriented products, but a well dressed man should be able to get some decent assistance in picking out proper scents for himself considering he is about to drop a few Polly Bakers on a few 3.4oz bottles of liquid. It's not the easiest thing in the world to discern a scent from another that has very similar notes, especially when the Men's area is pretty much a shelf in the whole store and 15 year old girls are busy spraying every single bottle in the air to smell them. If only someone had been willing to ask me if I knew what I was interested in, considering each of the bottles I tended to be going back to were $85-$125. Do salespeople not work on commission anymore? I got some nice things. I could have gotten some nice things 1)for a better price somewhere else most likely or 2) with better attention to customers. I will definitely go somewhere else next time. Much more so for #2. Why would I give hundreds of dollars again to a company that does not want to employ people that care about satisfying their customers? p.s. I did't even include the annoying sneers I got from some staff girls, that were literally standing around the makeup aisles not doing anything, while I looked at makeup. I loooove samples. I love samples almost as much as the new product I just dropped a bundle on. Clearly I'm not alone, because the associates at the back bay Sephora guard the samples like jealous she-hawks! The last 3 times I've bought something, the associates at the counter tried to shoo me away sans samples after I'd paid and been given my little black bag. Call me crazy, but that's like ordering a burger and then looking in the bag and realizing they forgot to give you fries. No bueno. When I then asked for the samples, the first two girls shrugged and said ok, and pulled out a couple little packets for me. The third? She said, you don't get samples with that. "That" by the way, was an $89 bottle of Marc Jacobs perfume. Wow, what? Also, what is it costing you, lady, to follow Sephora's policy to give samples to every customer?? Really bizarre. The only saving grace of this location is that no one really bothers you as you browse. Although now that I'm subscribed to Birchbox (the sample fairies) I hope to have to do a lot less of that at Sephora! read more

Am I the only one that goes into Sephora after work to freshen up before heading out to dinner or drinks with friends? Am I ashamed? No. They ask for it with their awesome (and sanitary) test sticks and cotton balls. I can even put a new coat of nailpolish on should I want to. I haven't gone that far yet, but I can't promise that I won't either. I always leave Sephora looking as fresh as I did in the morning and smelling like a new designer perfume. This place is the antithesis of the theory, "everything in moderation." The staff, though willing to help, ask over and over if you need help. And it's different staff members either patrolling one area or those overseeing the different areas you'll inevitably wander through. While we're on the staff, they need to learn how to do their make-up. No, I will not take advice from someone that resembles a clown. Yes, girls in other cosmetic stores have on a lot of make-up, but they display the capabilities of the products tastefully. Most of the women at Sephora do not. The stench of perfume is overwhelming. Either the HVAC system is insufficient or they need to carry less product or not allow anyone to sample them. Also in excess is their mark-up. I've noticed a significant difference between their prices and those of other purveyors of the exact same product elsewhere in the city. (at least in some of their face products) There are always a ton of people in here. Meandering, wandering. Hovering. I'm not a fan of crowds usually. No exception here. The only savior, and positive time for excess, is their range of product. Unfortunately, it's not enough of a saving grace for me to want to come back time and again spending my precious pay check. I'd rather scour the city at multiple locals than worship at this shrine to all things cosmetic. read more

A candy store for grownups... Absolutely my favorite store ever! I could spend forever in here just browsing and testing all of the different products without the pressure to buy something at the end of the day. I've found the staff to be pretty helpful when needed but also gives you your space to play at the same time. The layout of store isn't organized very well but then again, you might find yourself walking through every aisle anyway. I found Sephora to be a one stop shop for gifts; everyone could use some new makeup, perfume, hair products, cologne and/or lotion (plus Sephora has great gift sets as well). The only complaint I have is that the makeup test stations, which are located at the end of every other aisle, tends to get crowded making the shopping experience a bit frustrating. Note to the BF's/guy pals though: just park yourself on a bench outside or at the food court cuz you'll be waiting for awhile... read more

Your sales associates are attentive but not over-bearing. Even in the busiest of shopping seasons you remain clean, organized, and well stocked with samples. And you're a clever store too, taunting me in line with all those cutesy samples! How can a girl resist? But it's okay, I trust you, this Juicy Couture perfume roller isn't just an impulse buy, it's an investment in my glam-ness. I'm a makeup and skincare junkie and I only go to Sephora as a last ditch effort to find something that's not in any other store in Boston (Josie Maran skincare, for example) that I don't feel like waiting for in the mail. This place is a big, hot mess of a store. The testers are a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and other grossness. Customer service? None. I love Sephora as a concept but do yourself a favor and order online. I think this might actually be the best Sephora I've ever been to -- and by best I mean biggest, most well-organized, well-stocked and well-serviced. I was blown away by the product selection, staff knowledge and the incredible efficiency with which I was moved through a pretty daunting check-out line. Organized? That's what this location is all about. Of course it was packed -- it's a huge Sephora in the middle of the Prudential Center mall. However, the aisles are spaced appropriately to account for lots of people, and the lighting is so good you can see stuff from 20 feet away. The displays are super neat and clean -- you can tell they really pay close attention to that in this location. I was also impressed with the staff. These gals and guys know their stuff, and unlike most super-grumpy Bostonians, they're friendly, polite and helpful. Event the ladies who were working the mile-long checkout line were warm and chipper with their greeting. Compared to the two locations we have here in Providence, this Sephora runs circles around them. I was so impressed and happy in this make up haven, I can't wait until I'm have an excuse to come here again! read more

I love Sephora. I grew up going to the location at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA. Since those teen years, I've visited Sephora locations in different states and have mostly had very good experiences. I was looking forward to visiting this location, which seemed popular. It ended up being the worst Sephora experience I've had. This location was packed on a Monday afternoon. (President's Day?) I was spraying samples of perfume on scent strips. After 4-5 samples, I couldn't smell other perfumes, so I asked a store associate for coffee beans. She rolled her eyes at me and said that they obviously didn't have any, then walked away. read more

Oh Sephora, how I adore thee--like Lush and Paper Source, you're one of those stores with which I always torture unsuspecting male friends and companions by dragging them in and admiring everything at length, even (and perhaps especially) things for which I have absolutely no use. I'm a fairly low-maintenance gal, but there comes a time in every girl's (and many a man's) life when she's going to need makeup for something, and not just any kind of cosmetic offering--something high-quality that will impress, even stun. Sephora delivers, carrying almost every brand that's a step above drug store level in its entirety (I've spent many a visit drooling over the NARS and Bare Escentuals sections). There's also an almost overwhelming selection of perfumes, bath products and skin and hair products, many of which are affordable--though some can get extremely high-end if you've got it like that. The only downside of the Back Bay location is that the customer service here can be rather abrupt at times. The cashiers are always very friendly when ringing up my purchases, but I've never received any offers of help or assistance from floor attendants while browsing. As this is most definitely *not* CVS (most things here are at least three times more expensive), I expect at least a token "can I help you out with anything" before I blow my worker-bee salary on $25 lipsticks. I can forgive the snooty salespeople for almost anything though, because Sephora lets you try out or try on every item that they sell, and they also have an extremely generous return policy, which makes makeup shopping (a sometimes nerve-wracking endeavor) downright enjoyable. read more

Went in there for a treat today :) Their store at the Prudential is soooo nice!! It has everything I am looking for. Thank God my husband doesn't know how much I spent on makeup today but I don't think he would care anyway.. I would of liked to find out more about Skincare IQ product since Sephora offers it I ended up buying: a lip gloss and lipstick(both of them from YSL), a concealer (Dior), a powder (Bare Naturals) and a foundation (Guerlain). I would like to go back at some point and have an associate recommend products for me maybe even get a 90 minutes appointment with a specialist. I had a lot of associates asking me if I needed help and I kept saying ' no, I am fine' but now I wish I let them show me what they got in store (literally). I am happy with my purchase and with the associate who helped me. Her name is Maritza and she was very nice. She found the best concealer for me so happy!! Can't wait to apply the makeup I bought tomorrow :) So I'm taking away a star only because when I requested assistance I still didn't get a skin match and I heard the foundation I bought has a lot of chemicals in it and they don't have very good ratings. really??? Anything you need should be available here. Tons of brands, colors, tools, perfumes, and the staff can be pretty helpful. I've had positive experiences here... It kind of icks me out that so many people are willing to put on the lip glosses and eye shadows and whatnot, without worry about their sterility. .. but I guess you live and learn right? I've had both good and bad experiences here. The most recent terrific experience overshadows all, hence the fourth star. The store is well stocked, staff usually aren't too difficult to find when you have a question or want a sample, they try to keep enough cashiers up front, but the lines are atrocious. Returns: Depending on who you get at the register, they can be quite superior about returns. They'll do it, but you know they're judging you. I've come to the point where I try to sample EVERYTHING first, if at all possible. Nearly any product (aside from like, mascara) can be put into these cute tiny plastic containers for you to bring home and try. Do it. Save yourself the hassle. And then you have a little container to put in your overnight bag! My terrific experience was my attempt to find the perfect pin-up red lipstick. These ladies tried everything in the store, and found my absolute perfect match. I'm entirely thrilled with it! My biggest qualm with their sales staff is when they 1) Actively and unabashedly try to up-sell you on something you don't want 2) Let their own personal preference/skin tone affect their advice to you. I love Sephora, don't get me wrong. Where else can you get multiple high end brands without having to go counter to counter in the department stores. The sales associates can be pushy at times and unable to let you look on your own. I also have a little trouble having people with awful makeup tell me what I should be putting on my face. I would have thought that if you work at a makeup store you shouldn't be looking like hell with your makeup. read more

Very hit or miss in regards to the customer service. There have been times when I've gone in there and felt like a pretty-pretty princess upon leaving, and other times where I've felt like a leper. I recently changed my hair color pretty dramatically (from the blonde/brown you see in my user icon to purple and black) and needed some help changing my makeup essentials like lipstick and...well just lipstick really since that's all i wear...and my salesperson was pretty useless. she -only- showed me sephora brand cosmetics and would wander off after less than a minute. it kind of sucked. but other times i've gone in there and gotten tons of help, advice on what to buy and what not to buy, so it's one of those things that's really hit or miss. it's a -mall- store, it's typically overcrowded and most likely understaffed so i can't hold it against them that much really. read more

As cliche as the saying is, being in Sephora for me is like being a 'kid in a candy store'. Seriously. I have converted from being a strictly online Sephora shopper. I forgot how fun it is to actually visit the store. First of all, it can be a bit overwhelming- especially if it's crowded. However somehow through all the chaos you still find someone to help you. The customer service here is fantastic- Sephora obviously knows what they're doing when they hire people- they are all knowledgeable in different fields. Here is what my situation went like: I walked into Sephora looking for a good reliable foundation and a few skincare products- including a new moisturizer. First I approached a nice blonde girl who started talking to me about the foundations, and then handed me over to another girl who was the "skincare expert" and could help me pick out some products. Now, I too know a thing or too about esthetics and skincare, and I could tell this girl knew what she was talking about (she also mentioned she worked at a dermatologist office as well). She picked out a great exfoliator for me, told me it would last me 8 months, and also helped me pick out a great moisturizer that wasn't too expensive (in fact she stressed that the cost isn't always the indicator of the quality) THEN, she passed me to another lovely girl who was apparently the "makeup expert" and helped me pick out a great HD foundation, then she brought me to her makeup chair, put it on me with my consent, and basically ultimately gave me a full makeover. The foundation was perfect, and she didn't pressure me to buy anything else but did grab any other products I wanted for me so all I had to do was sit there and she came back with a basket full of goodies. THEN I got a few free gifts at the checkout- one for being a Beauty Insider member (and they are great gifts- I got a Laura Mercier primer), and one for uh.. I guess purchasing a lot of makeup? I dunno. Basically going there is seriously like being in a toystore as a kid as another Yelper mentioned. You will leave with a lighter wallet, sure- but everything here is high quality- especially the staff's knowledge and customer service. Their selection of moisturizers is unparalleled and that really warrants a 5-star review. Healthy skin starts with your best moisturizer - if your skin is not healthy, the makeup doesn't matter. They realize this, so they stock everything under the sun from night creams to daily moisturizers. My perennial favorite is "Dior Hydra Life." Everyone's skin is different so choice matters with moisturizers. Also they have a sample for pretty much all of them. They will likely have the right moisturizer for you. read more

I have been to this location 3 times where I actually wanted/needed help and have been dismally received! I walked in on a Friday morning. The place was scarce. There were about two other customers besides myself and about 4 staff on the floor. I thought I was pretty lucky until I actually got their help. The staff knew nothing about their own sephora brand products. I was looking for a specific spring/summer eye shadow pallette I had seen in their emails. The girl had to ask her team not only if we had it but I had to explain it to her three times for her to figure out which one i was talking about. Then she realized she had no clue where it might be in the store so had to refer to the others again. They didnt have it so I said thanks and started browsing again. Next I remembered I wanted the sephora brand makeup remover that comes in pen form. I asked a different sales girl this time. Same scenario, we wandered the store together looking for this item explaining it to the other girls on her radio and then finally coming over to a random brand section (not sephora brand) only for the box she found to be empty. The store was not stocked at all and apparantly the organization needs a little work since the employees have no idea where anything is. On top of that you would think in this economy they would offer me alternatives to what I was looking for? Nope just "We dont have that. Sorry." The helpful thing they did was try to have me use their online store, lol. Great way to put yourself out of a job ^_^ read more
