I have no problem with any of the products, and if you don't like something they actually want you to bring it back (assuming you paid for it). My one problem with Sephora (all really, but I usually go to this one) is that I always get approached by multiple staff members, and as soon as you ask one question, they run away and it's on to the next. I don't really like the feeling of feeling guilty or bad about asking questions, and I usually end up following my own advice since they are already looking for the next customer to target before they are finished helping me. Do they want to help or not? Do they have a quota to meet? I don't know.... read more

It is sad that I have to travel to Boston to shop at a decent Sephora but this really is my favorite one out of all the city and states I have been to. I always end up dropping in to get something. Once they woman seriously loaded me up on like 20 samples because I was interested in looking at a new face cleanser - THAT is service! I love that I can try stuff out before committing since some products I use are rather spendy. I dont use much make up, so I dont really buy things there. I only get the Tend skin. Thats all I ever need. They usually hide it on the bottom corner shelf. I just go there and get it. I just feel I needed to say that before I proceed. They do have all the possible and impossible make up things you could need, and a few that noone needs, like a pimple popper for $32. Yep, I saw that today. Its a metal stick with a little round thingy on one end. Who knew thats a pimple popper. The staff that works there...they are a bit pretentious. Considering that Im carrying a large book bag, have no make up on, and overall look like a clean homeless person, they tend to avoid me and pretend Im not there. I understand that people like me shouldn't be allowed into a store like that, but still.... I hate it, when they ask me if I need a bag. Yes, I need a bag, Im buying shit, gimme a bag. I like your little bags, I reuse them and use them as my lunch baggie. So gimme a bag! Maybe when I finally grow up and become a real lady, I can fit in. Oh Sephora. I love browsing your online store, and I credit you with my discovery of the wonders of Benefit. I love receiving a package of goodies with which to paint my face, and I love playing with the free samples you provide with my order. However, before venturing into your brick-and-mortar location I usually have to pause first and take a few calming breaths. Also, my boyfriend all but refuses to venture into your store with me...but he does only because I remind him first of the twenty minutes we just spent in Game Stop. Maybe this is only a weekend shenanigan for you, Sephora, but is it really necessary to have a club DJ blasting his fav Britney Spears remix in the corner of your establishment in the middle of a mall? Full disclosure: I love dance music...when I'm out at a club and on a mission to dance. That being said, I don't particularly enjoy feeling like that awkward mom in Abercrombie and Fitch who complains that the music is too loud. I totally understand where she is coming from now. Another major irritation...don't make me fall in love with a sample perfume you JUST sent me only to tell me that you no longer keep that brand in stock. Umm, ok? Thanks. I love Sephora regardless, however, I like the customer service at this specific store. Though most Sephoras I've been to have good customer service (though there are ones in NYC that do not have good customer service) this one is exceptional. I was on the hunt for a certain Clinique product and the girl helping said they ran out and to go to Lord and Taylor. Since I'm still brand spanking new in this city and I asked where that was, she told me and she was nice enough to welcome me to Boston and asked where I was from. So, I left and ventured out to Lord and Taylor and of course they were out of the certain Clinique product! So, I went back and told the gal and she nicely gave me a sample of another product similar to the one I couldn't find. In addition, the store is fairly big and has all the make up, perfume and beauty goodies your heart desires (of course, except for my Clinique product). But in any case, this store does have a good selection and great customer service. This will be dangerous for me since I'll be working right next to the Prudential Center. read more

After living in Pittsburgh with our tiny Sephora...This Sephora is like going over to your best gay boyfriend's house and having him select the best new favorite lipstick. Whoa run on sentence! Anyhow, Lets talk. My favorite Sephora yet. This store not only consistently compliments my hair and lipstick, they remember me ALL THE TIME! There has been a solid group of workers here for almost a year and they are always incredibly helpful and are so friendly! I have had my makeup done here a few times and they consistently go above and beyond their services! One girl spent an hour with me on my birthday! Go team Back Bay Sephora! I don't love the perfume selection, go to Barney's for better sampling but they have tons of hair products at this store as well! The best time to go here is early mornings on weekdays because tourists don't crowd it and make sure to get your Sephora Card to receive points towards free gifts and discounts! read more

Matthew is a fantastic fragrance connoisseur! He was extremely enthusiastic and introduced me to a number of hidden gems made by Nest, Jo Malone, and Toca. I never felt that he was pressuring me to purchase anything and I liked that he gave honest opinions of some scents that did not live up to their hype or fell flat. Sephora always has the most amazing selection of perfumes...I always leave with my nose completely overwhelmed by all the goodness. This place is huge and if you come in without an exact mission, your wallet could be in trouble. I'm not a girly girl in so many ways, but I am like a kid in a candy store here. Even when I come with other people and have no intention of buying anything, I end up trying things out, playing with random eyeliners I'd never wear, perfumes I'd never buy....but I feel like I spend enough money in here to make those trips ok. The salespeople must be told to overdo their make up (I hope), but I've found them to be very nice and helpful on multiple occasions. My skin used to be terrible and I asked a salesperson what she recommended. She told me truthfully that there wasn't anything that could help me all that much and that I should see a dermatologist (which I did and it did work within a matter of weeks). It sounds like a rude thing to say, but she told me that she'd always had trouble with her skin herself, but used perscription products and they cleared her right up. I found her honesty and empathy refreshing; after all, she could have just told me to buy the most expensive product on the shelf. They have a HUGE selection of Bare Escentuals make up, which is almost all I use. Make up (especially the 20+-dollar variety) is something that should be tried before buying and Sephora makes it that much easier. read more

If you had a sneak peak at my makeup stash, you'd probably think I was a hoarder. Or a very loyal Sephora customer. Probably the former. I absolutely hate makeup counters at department stores and avoid them like I avoid people with severe halitosis. Ever since I bought a foundation from a Dior counter at a Lord & Taylor, returned it after it gave me a rash, and got the biggest, inappropriate 'tude from the salesgirl, I've been a Sephora gal to the nines. I don't enjoy hovering salespeople; I find it irritating and a bit too much like a hungry hyena waiting for a feast in the African grasslands. Luckily, Sephora is usually as busy as a high school cafeteria, so you can take your time swatching colors, testing and sniffing out the best moisturizer for you, and take an extra 10 minutes to decide whether or not you REALLY need that $55 Urban Decay palette. The salesgirls here have, for the most part, been quite helpful and nice. Just don't ask them to apply anything on you. Word of advice: Their brushes have done up about 50 others in the last hour, and you'll find yourself breaking out in no time at all if you let them swatch that Nars blush on you with that blush brush. I went here for the first time today. I am not a regular makeup wearer, but I do like beauty products and I went in today to buy makeup to wear for an upcoming special event. I was nervous that this was going to be a snobby place, but I was pleasantly surprised. The consultant who worked with me, Tom was very pleasant. I think he sensed my apprehension at first so he was not pushy, just friendly. He helped me pick out a foundation kit and waterproof mascara. He also helped with eyeshadow, liner, primer, a lip pencil and lip gloss but I ended up not buying those products because it was a little more than I intended to buy. That was no problem for the clerk who helped me today as she cheerfully removed the items from my bill when I changed my mind at the last minute. One thing I really love is that you can sign up for their Beauty Insider program which is basically a frequent shopper card. You can earn points to use towards deluxe samples or a full sized product. If it's your birthday (mine is this coming week) they have a special gift you can get..in this case, a set of three mini lip glosses. I will say that it can be overwhelming if you are not a makeup fiend, but I think everyone is really there to help you find what you are looking for and I do intend to go back when I need more products. read more

I like going here primarily because I can sample a variety of colognes without being hassled unlike other stores. The prices are high but the beauty insider perks kind of make up for it. The crowds in here sometimes makes me not want to shop. The employees here are always helpful, friendly, and never pushy. But this place is huge, much bigger than the one in the Galleria. Nice selection (but pricey!). The products are of a higher quality, though, which is a tradeoff. This is probably the best Sephora I've ever been to. I've been to many in the U.S. and a few in Canada and France. This store is quite big and has lots of brands. It wasn't crazy busy when I went in the evening on a week day. I think the thing that made it great though is everyone was very nice to me when I asked for help finding a few things. For someone who doesn't wear make-up everyday, making it into Sephora is sometimes overwhelming. With prices really high for everything from tweezers to lipstick, it's hard to try to pick something out for how expensive things are. Today, I was equipped with a gift card and I knew exactly what I was looking for - a all-in-one make-up palette. This thing is pretty insane and when I came across it in a fashion magazine, I had to have it. It has many shades of lip gloss, blush and eye shadow AND it's only $40. Unfortunately, they had sold out and won't have another order in until mid January. Sephora always seem crowded and there are many people there to help. It is a good place if you have lots of pocket cash for expensive quality make up. read more

This review has two parts- a general Sephora review and then one for the Boston store. I love Sephora. The whole concept is great and its like one stop beauty shopping. Really, anything that keeps me from having to go to the counter in a department store is good in my book! The fact that you can try everything is the best....on a recent trip there my husband turned to me and mentioned that he could understood the appeal of the store. In general Sephora has a great selection of products, many brands that you can't find elsewhere. (For example, Bare Escentuals. You can go and test it there to see if you like it rather than having to mail order it) However, I find I never shop in the Boston location. Even if it is larger than Chestnut Hill its still small by Sephora standards. I find that I go when I'm on vacation, usually in Vegas. This works out well since we go to Vegas a few times a year- I can stock up! I think the selection in the Boston store is lacking, especially the Philosophy bath products. read more

I'm a sucker for the Sephora experience. As a corporation they have some of the worlds best marketers, because I'm always buying something, reviewing, something, or spending my lunch break playing with the samples. I can't tell you how much I love the perks, ability to try anything, and the generally good advice (they're employees are not quite as knowledgeable as some of the high end department store brands). In the spirit of sharing, I had the most hilarious conversation with one of their fabulous employees. The conversation went something like this... Me: "I love this place, I can get lost in here for hours" Sephora Rep: "You know, I just looooove working here. It's never boring, I can always find something to stick my finger in." Straight forward Sephora. I cannot ding them on their store space as the Prudential center is going through a remodel but they did a good job on accommodating for it. The Makeup and the Fragrance/Beauty sections are split and shelving is continuously optimized. The employees are helpful yet not overbearing, almost a tad dismissive, understanding that indecisive people such as my self will take up too much of their and other customers time. It's too popular of a store, they always seem to be out of something [grrr] but they will gladly help you find it online. Customer service is terrible. Repeatedly when I ask for help they are unwilling to help and point me to the general direction on where to look. One person always tells me "We don't carry that product" even when I show her on my phone that it says in stock. Sephora Prudential Center Ok, What is up with this skanky Sephora? It's is just plain nasty. I've been there more than a few times, each time with my expectations dashed. The samples/demos sometimes usually have finger-dug marks and the brushes or applicators they have lying around look like they need a good disinfection or a run in a sanitizer. Also, I am always looking around for help so they seem to be understaffed. Often, they've run out of particular colors or items and the people who work there aren't helpful with alternatives. I've just been so disappointed in this place that I am not going back. It's a pity, but it does seem that this is an increasing trend with Sephora's all over the place like the H&M's ...they've been skankified! read more

One word. Or rather, one makeup artist is worth mentioning. Felix. Go. See. Felix. Felix is the type of person who won't take "good enough". He will go the extra billion miles for you. My friend and I are truly fortunate that we ran into Felix. He was incredibly knowledgeable and willing to work with us, which was a little hard because my friend is vegan but that in no way stopped him from doing his job. He made sure to triple check everything was vegan before using the product on her face. And even though one foundation was good enough, he refused to stop there. He kept trying other things and finally found "the one". My friend and I literally teared up and how crazy and amazing the product worked with her skin. It seriously was magical. Large, luxurious, but fairly busy store. Have spent a lot here over the years and gotten some fabulous products. Well worth a visit to try makeup in person before buying (OK I only test it on my hand.) Almost all of the customer service I received has been good and they have usually made an effort to help me find things and suggest a few along the same lines in addition. Excellent selection!! A++ rating there. My major complaint about this store (and this happens EVERY time I visit) is the groups of girls from a "certain cross section of the globe" who go there in packs and stand directly behind you while you're shopping for make up in whatever section you happen to be in. (Yes I'm talking directly, two inches behind you and just stare at the back of your head, until they make you so uncomfortable that you depart that section.) Really Ladies??? Is that just normal behavior in your countries?? I'm completely dumbfounded as to who would ever think this is courteous behavior. I'm usually only a few minutes in each section to find my product. Great selection of cosmetics, yes. But completely overwhelming. And I've had mixed experience with service in this store. On one occasion they didn't have the concealer that I swear by in stock, but the saleslady was incredibly friendly and gave me the sample for free. On another occasion, however, a saleslady was showing me a foundation that I didn't care for. When I expressed this she looked at me with raised eyebrows and asked me if I'd ever used foundation before in a very condescending way. I left the store empty-handed that day. And god forbid you stop by here on a weekend. This place gets crowded! I waited in line for twenty minutes last Saturday to make a single purchase! Is Sephora my favorite place? On the occasion that I find myself in this Sephora, I usually regret it. It's the combination of the staff and the crowds (as most others have said). Last time I was in there there was a group of 6? middle/high school girls who were wearing the exact same thing--tight jeans with Uggs and white puffy jackets. !!!! And that's usually how it goes there. Thankfully, I'm generally able to run in and run out to refill my tried and true basics. But if I really do want help, this is my game plan: 1. If someone who clearly can't do his or her own makeup asks if I need help, I say "no, thank you." 2. Scour the floor for someone who has the "fresh & clean" makeup look--not the caked on and overdone look. 3. Ask them for help! 4. If they are rude, I leave. Last time I was in, I spent several hundred on new makeup and brushes. And you know why? Because there was a STILA rep working there that day who had perfect, clean makeup and more importantly, was extremely approachable. She didn't make me feel like an idiot for asking if I should be using Stila coverup or something else. In fact, she took me over to one of the Sephora staff to ask them because she didn't want me to think she was just trying to get me to buy Stila! I was looking for a specific type of fragrance. There was so much at Sephora that I didn't know where to begin. I wanted a strong (i.e. not too feminine/pretty) fragrance. Nothing too spicy. Not really floral or sweet but not too musky. I asked Miguel to point me to fragrances that fit the bill. He knew the entire inventory intimately. He showed me probably 10-15 fragrances, and I whittled my selections down to four. With four sample paper-swatches in my hand, I had no idea what the names of the four were. Miguel was able to identify each by brand and name by the scent alone! Is this not remarkable? Furthermore, I didn't know which of the three fragrances to get! He solved the problem by suggesting I buy the largest amount of my #1 fragrance, and buy the travel size spray of my #2. He knew that I really liked all four of the fragrances, but wasn't ready to commit to #3 and #4. He made samples of my #3 and #4 for me to decide if I like them enough to purchase them. The samples really helped because they were the last half of my preference list, but we also know that the fragrances can develop/evolve once mixed with one's pheromones. So, the samples will definitely help me decide. From the vendor's perspective, it gives me another reason to possibly even buy more fragrances! In fact, I am writing this review several weeks after my visit and may very well return to purchase full sizes of the samples that he provided me! THANK YOU, MIGUEL! This is the only location of Sephora I have visited on the east coast, however, I was pleased with the overall experience. Although it is small by Sephora standards, I was able to find all of the items I needed with help from the store salespeople. It does seem crowded, but I have never waited in line for more than 3-5 minutes. Sephora Back Bay- is not in it's best form right now because they are renovating. They are going to expand the temporary location in a couple of weeks but that is no excuse for.... The shelf i was interested in (hair stuff) was just kinda scuzzy. There was only one brand of hair Items, I get it space limited; but I got off a crowded train on my way home only to find out they were renovating, and, one hair product line? A staff person said they can bring things out of stock, if I knew what I wanted. It was very busy/crowded in there around 6pm. The reason they are getting two stars from me is because of the "I think you might be stealing so I'm going to intimidate-watch you as you try product" mode was in full effect and it was annoying. This method to reduce shrinkage when used on someone with no intention of stealing results in a two star review changing to one. I will go back when they get in their new space until then.... One last thing the mascara brush needs to be cut off the wand in the testers. some things I wanted to try, just seemed yuck. read more

After spending thousands of dollars here , it seems Sephora thinks they are so busy and popular now that they don't need to provide good customer service to their original loyal customers who helped their empire become what it is today . BIG MISTAKE . As the saying everyone and everything is replaceable goes , so I'd be careful Sephora . If you continue to treat customers who spent more in a year (as I have there) than people do in a lifetime and not once, but twice within a couple of days you go to open up an over prices bronzing powder and blush ( Bobbi Brown & Mark Jacobs), so not exactly cheap to use for the first time and they come out of the box broken in a million pieces, and even though there is a record of your purchase , along with your profile showing the ridiculous amount of money you have spent in their store , you get a very smug general manager patronizing you with a smirk as her other employees and customers observe , how they now have a very strict policy and because the even exchange I was trying to wasn't done in an a certain amount of time , they refuse to do it . Even though (1)I purchased enough bronzers and blushers to last a lifetime (2) I had all the product in baggies so they could see the FULL product was there ) & (3) I'm just asking for an even exchange , the manager continues with her smirk and smugness along with being very condescending, all she does is offer you 10% off a PURCHASE ! The reason I spent the money I did , was because as previous managers did in the past , say to me " we know how much you are spending , so have a lenient return policy , never mi d the brand new product to you ( that you just opened ) was damaged . ..there is " nothing they can do " . Well I'd watch out Sephora . There are lots of TJX stores & other discounters where you can get the same type of cosmetics with your new strict rules ( on YOUR DAMAGED MERCHANDISE) , you better believe like Walmart put out aLOT of discount retailers., as busy as you are today , you will be put out of business too when all your life time customers like me start being treated how I was today . One day, I woke up and decided it was time for me to wear makeup (well). I honestly had no idea where to start, I grew up in the boonies - where there is no Sephora (though maybe they have one now, they just got Apple after all). A friend recommended Sephora, and the Stila line, and my credit rating went down from there. +Stila make-up, merchandised right up front. +Stila representatives on-site on my first visit. +Sephora brand basic brushes and tools. +FREE STUFF!? +Rewards Program (And my collection of little keychain cards grows) -Hit or miss on Sephora employee attitudes. (Can I harp on this a little? Okay... I'm sorry you work in a really busy store, but I bet you expected that going into this. Do not be snappy with me in the check-out line. And just because you're a cashier right now, doesn't mean you can't spend two seconds explaining the free samples to me. I'M NEW HERE.) In preparation for my first visit, I did a little reading, and I honestly wasn't prepared to try on testers and get all germy and gross. But once I got there, I just had to play, you know? I was really dedicated to Stila products on my first and second outing, so I didn't pay much mind to anything else, but I look forward to quiet times when I can peruse all the little impulse buys and tools of the trade. When I was a kid, my brother could spend hours inside of KB Toys, perusing every aisle, touching every toy they had. That's how I feel about Sephora. It's a grownup toy store, filled with the colors, textures, and smells I could breathe in for hours. Not only is it allowed, but you are encouraged to try out every product there. Trust me, I do. One thing that Sephora has going for it, moreso than department stores, is a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Not that the fabulous chicks at Bloomies aren't those things, but they work on commission. At Sephora, I had one employee recommend a cheaper product than the one I was using. I personally love to know about the products I use on my skin, and the women that work there give me lots of interesting information on the ingredients. The one at the Chestnut Hill Mall is what some would call a "low volume" store, meaning they don't carry every line. The Sephora at the Prudential Center does carry the harder to find merchandise. It can get crowded, but that's the price you pay for glamor. Besides, they have some of the best products right there while you wait in line. Perfect for those impulse buys! read more

Not all Sephora locations are created equal, but this one is awesome! The store is large and they seemed to have everything in stock when I went in. I admit I wasn't really shopping for anything when I visited Sephora on Tuesday, but I was dragging quite a bit from lack of sleep the last several nights since my hotel mate kept me up with her snoring, so I wanted something to camouflage the dark circles that had formed under my eyes. I was so happy to see the tester of Benefit's Ooh La Lift on display, and after a quick application, I was ready to meet my friend for dinner that evening! I actually planned on going back to Sephora on Wednesday to purchase the under-eye miracle, but I ran out of time before I had to go to the airport. But don't worry, I'll make it up to my old friend Sephora the next time I'm in Boston. read more

My only complaint with Sephora used to be that I couldn't buy Laura Mercier there. Not anymore! Now they have everything! They are also super helpful whenever you have questions. I find this to be very conveniently located. I'm not sure what else there is to say about Sephora. It's pretty much everywhere. Definitely the go to store for all kinds of beauty products. Love Sephora, love the complete feeling of giddiness that washes over me at the prospect of all those beauty goodies. Don't love that the cashier tried to shame me last week when I returned a product that I used (once) and wasn't happy with (even my boyfriend noticed her rudeness- and that is saying something, because my boyfriend is not the most observant man in the world). Also don't love when I choose a product (in this case, a Clinique moisturizer) and have to insist to a sales associate that I did indeed choose the right one for my skin type. REALLY don't love when aforementioned employee raises her eyebrows and says "OK, whatever" when I maintain that I'd like to stick with my original choice - after, I doubt she knows my skin type better than my dermatologist. Lose the attitude, lady. If it doesn't work, it's my problem and not yours. Do love the new Tarina Tarantino line. Oh my god, the sparkles, the pink! Never mind my college degree and job in a fancy industry, I want all that shimmer and glitter in my life NOW. read more

A trip to Sephora will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. It can be a bit overwhelming, but the variety of products on the store's shelves makes each trip a worthwhile experience. Not only does Sephora have a great selection, it has excellent customer service, too. Consider this: You'll pay to go to a salon/spa for a makeup consultation, and during that process, you might be limited to one brand of cosmetics. But at Sephora, the "consultation" is free and the brands to chose from are endless--almost. But with any service, it's important to go with your own gut feeling at the end. Normally the sales associates at Sephora are pretty good, but I had an experience where one chose a shade of concealer and foundation for me--which I expressed hesitation about right away--that I clearly realized were no close match for my skin tone when I got home to better lighting. Just keep in mind that while the sales associates might enjoy helping people, it doesn't mean they're necessarily expert makeup artists and that you always need to go with their suggestions. read more
