Ask the Community - Selah Speech And Language

I have United healthcare insurance but if they don't take it, is there a payment program or cash? And do I need a referral from a Dr or can I enroll my son at anytime?

Hello, I do not accept any insurance, I am private pay only. You do not need a doctor's referral. Also, my services are provided via teletherapy, I am not providing in-person services at this time if you are looking for in-person services. Thank you…

Hello Kelly, do you by any chance offer in home services? Or know of anyone local who offers them. Thank you in advance for your response.

Hello. No, I do not provide in-hone services. I only provide teletherapy services at this time. I'm not sure if you have checked with SenseAbilities, they are a larger clinic in Riverside. They may have someone who can provide in-home. 😊

Do you offer speech therapy for Spanish speakers?

No, unfortunately I do not speak Spanish. :( Thank you for inquiring, sorry I cannot help in that area.

My daughter received speech therapy w/ Ms. Renee (1yr) and occupational therapy with Mr Travis (4yrs). She always looked forward to her sessions.  Through the years the center was truly wonderful and accommodating with her needs. Our sessions were held in clinic and virtually. It was not effective at all. It was very difficult to keep a 3 year old engaged and locked in a high chair in front of a camera. The therapist that I did have quit working there due to horrible management per a discussion she shared with me. The therapist following her were not doing much engagement as the previous one so it became a waste of time and I ended up cancelling. I decided to try again and in person this time in hopes my son would have a better experience. The first therapist they assigned me temporarily, literally stuck his finger in his nose casually as I was discussing my child's eating issues and proceeded to put his hand in my child's snacks and pass one to my child to engage in eating. I then was assigned another therapist who I liked and I was teaching her how to warm up my sons food to a certain temperature he likes and I offered to go to the microwave to do so and I got a sense she didn't want me to as she kept trying to grab the bowl but I insisted and the microwave was absolutely disgusting. Old food splattered everywhere for who knows how long. It couldn't have been just that day. I let her know and she said she will let the cleaning staff know. She wouldn't allow me to microwave the food any more going forward. Most of the staff was rude so I never allowed my child to do therapy without me present. I have observed children being mistreated, I have seen therapist putting the child's food and a toy in front of them while the are glued to their phone. I witnessed a melt down that a therapist had in front of a special needs child because she couldn't handle his hyper behavior. Lack of training with autistic children and labeling it bad behavior. The facility was always dirty. Pink mold in the sinks and feces stains left in the toilet. Counters dirty and no sanitizing the toys and tools they used. The last straw for me was when I observed staff yanking my son off of the floor because my child wanted to explore a toy room on his way out because it was the end of their shift. The staff member had no idea I was following behind and once I told her to let my son go, she became surprised and started telling him good job for listening. My therapist then explained to her that I was mom and she changed her character right away. I feel bad for all the innocent parents that think their children are being handled appropriately while they wait in the lobby. I'm so glad I never let my child go back there alone. The place is a joke. I decided today that I will not be returning. I know there is not much therapy options being offered in my area but this is place is a disgrace. No sense in a complaint because it is privately owned and nothing will be done. I figured the best I can do is share my experience here in case you are considering this place for your child. If you do, I encourage you to stay in the sessions.

The technician that was assigned to our son (the second time) noticed that he showed behavioral patterns that indicated SPD. Neither my wife nor I were familiar with this, and the tech suggested some resources for us to read and learn from (one of which was The Out Of Sync Child, which comes on an audiobook). I am always thankful for YI and that tech, as, until our son could officially be diagnosed (later diagnosed as autism), that tech integrated her therapy to be in line with children who have SPD. Unfortunately, SARC assigned another agency to our son (as he required many more hours, which YI couldn't meet; as well as other services that YI doesn't offer). That agency, among many other problems, didn't know (or bother to learn about) SPD. Fortunately, after pushing our Regional Contact for another agency (as well as asking to go back to YI, as, even though our son was getting fewer hours, those hours were FAR MORE SUBSTANTIVE than the new agency--in fact, he was REGRESSING with the new agency), the new agency (which could meet the new hour demands and other services) knew about SPD and their techs are trained about it.

The front staff at the Norco location are always incredibly helpful, patient, and welcoming. I tend to ask a million questions, and they never make me feel like a bother, they always take the time to make sure my schedule is taken care of and that I have everything I need. The facility itself is clean, well-maintained, and very organized. Everyone we've encountered has been friendly, professional, and truly invested in the kids they work with. It gives me peace of mind knowing my son is in such a supportive and positive space. I would highly recommend Leaps and Bounds to any parent looking for services like PT, OT, speech therapy, or any specialized support for their child. We've had nothing but a great experience!

Based on our experience, this organization's public image as a nonprofit dedicated to helping…read morechildren with disabilities does not match the reality we experienced as a family. What is especially troubling is the disconnect between the organization's mission and how families with more complex needs are treated. If an organization wants to present itself as a nonprofit serving disabled children, it should be held accountable to that message. Families deserve transparency about which disabilities and support needs they can realistically accommodate, rather than discovering only after enrollment that their child is considered too difficult to support. For families considering this organization, I would encourage you to ask very specific questions upfront about accommodations, cognitive disabilities, behavioral or communication needs, and what happens when a child requires more individualized support. The word "inclusive" should mean something more than a marketing slogan.

Their individualized exercises were exactly what she needed to build strength and coordination, and their guidance empowered me to continue her practice at home each day. Thanks to this combined dedication, my daughter began walking independently at 19 months and officially graduated from physical therapy by age two.
