Your child can't travel or leave the area over holidays. Forget being ill, even though there's strict rules to protect the staff and other children about the symptoms they can have and what you need to bring them back and you are staying away for everyone's good. It is such an incredible stressor constantly worrying about losing those hard to get afterschool slots while also dealing with health issues and the complexities of a child who needs several therapies. I am not seeing any improvement in my son to keep dealing with this stress. If I can't find another therapy center close by, I will teach him to zip his zippers at home and schedule him activities he actually enjoys that will incorporate the skill building he needs. And the front office staff is rude, the back office people clearly don't talk and consult with eachother, because I was told it was fine when I cancelled after him throwing up three times on the way to therapy and then got a call the next day that he'd be dropped from the schedule with no additional warning and plan for makeups once he improved. And lobby always smells like diaper shit; I can barely stand to sit in there. Good riddance.

We had the pleasure of working with YI for our son's therapy--once, around when our son was 6…read moremonths, and then a bit more than a year later (we had moved, and SARC assigned us to another agency, which we eventually went back to YI). The technician that was assigned to our son (the second time) noticed that he showed behavioral patterns that indicated SPD. Neither my wife nor I were familiar with this, and the tech suggested some resources for us to read and learn from (one of which was The Out Of Sync Child, which comes on an audiobook). I am always thankful for YI and that tech, as, until our son could officially be diagnosed (later diagnosed as autism), that tech integrated her therapy to be in line with children who have SPD. Unfortunately, SARC assigned another agency to our son (as he required many more hours, which YI couldn't meet; as well as other services that YI doesn't offer). That agency, among many other problems, didn't know (or bother to learn about) SPD. Fortunately, after pushing our Regional Contact for another agency (as well as asking to go back to YI, as, even though our son was getting fewer hours, those hours were FAR MORE SUBSTANTIVE than the new agency--in fact, he was REGRESSING with the new agency), the new agency (which could meet the new hour demands and other services) knew about SPD and their techs are trained about it.

We have years in this program with zero history of issues; the single incident they referenced involved an animal that was completely unharmed--if anything, the risk goes the other way around, as the staff stated on more than one occasion. Conveniently, this "safety concern" only materialized the exact moment we asked for a fair accommodation. It is heartbreaking to watch a little boy who has very few interests in life constantly ask to ride his favorite horses, only to be shut out by this organization's greed and lack of empathy. We saw 3 or 4 speech therapist before her and suddenly he's 95% on board with participating while practicing new skill and he was 0% participating with the other ones. So grateful we got paired with her, she pushes him the perfect amount for him and that changes by the moment constantly reading him and seeing what he's up to in each moment while not letting him avoid practice all together. I also really appreciate the guidance on things we can practice and model at home to boost our progress.

I am a single parent and a documented survivor of domestic violence by her biological father. Thrive was aware of this history, and my daughter was receiving services stemming from a trauma referral related to his behavior. Before an important court hearing, he began repeatedly contacting Thrive and my daughter's individual providers. At that time, he was not listed on her birth certificate and had not provided Thrive with a paternity judgment, custody order, or other court order granting him access to her confidential information because it did not exist . The document he apparently presented only identified him as an alleged father in an active paternity case involving serious domestic violence against the mother. Despite this, Shannon, the owner, communicated directly with him and provided information. When I questioned her, she said he had "court documents." However, merely filing a court case is not the same as having established parental rights or legal authority to access a child's protected information. He recorded their conversation, during which Shannon also offered to provide him with a statement for use in court. Before this occurred, we had experienced no attendance issues, my daughter was consistently participating in services, and she was thriving. CPS later contacted Thrive during an investigation involving him. I learned that CPS was reportedly told my daughter had never received ongoing trauma-related services and that I had attended only one appointment. That information was inconsistent with my records and experience. My daughter attended multiple appointments and worked with two separate providers connected to the trauma referral. When I raised this directly with Shannon, she stated that Thrive had no record of anyone on its staff speaking with CPS. That response created even more serious concerns: Who provided the information? Why was inaccurate information reportedly disclosed? Why was there no record of the communication? And why was someone without documented legal authority allowed access to information concerning my child? These actions have caused my family significant emotional and legal harm and have affected decisions involving my daughter's safety. I am pursuing the appropriate formal and legal channels to address what occurred. I strongly encourage other parents--especially survivors of domestic violence--to obtain written confirmation of Thrive's privacy, consent, recordkeeping, and parental-access policies before enrolling their children. Protect yourself, document every communication, and be extremely cautious about what information is shared and with whom.
