I was walking by on a nice day on 2nd street, decided to stop in, door was locked. When the guy finally came to open the door, he told me I should have made an appointment even though his website says they take walk-ins. He let me look around but rushed me out because his other appointment was arriving soon and apparently more important. Why would you locate your business on the busiest walking district in LB only to pull the "by appointment only" snob appeal? Ether you take walk-ins or you don't. But being rushed out was not good customer service. And if your website says you take walk-ins, then you should actually take walk-ins and treat them like good paying customers, not nuisance because they didn't fallow your protocol. read more

I first stumbled upon this place around 3 years ago while visiting Long Beach. As a long time near-sighted bespectacled nerd, I began transitioning out of the dreaded Costco, Kaiser optician appointments to move onto seeking more stylish and complimentary styles. I've visited many eyewear boutiques and opticians only to walk out disappointed and irked that no one seemed to give a damn about offering advice or insight on frames that would perfectly frame my Asian features and face shape. At Second Street Optique, Marc has always taken the time and patience to carefully assess how each handpicked frame is properly suited to enhance one's features and has always provided a solid honest opinion; Never inflicting pressure or upsell. He even pointed out my 2nd Second Street Optique frames which were Tom Fords on a 50% special seasonal sale. Remember Ollivander the wandmaker beelining from shelf to shelf, combing through and discarding each wand that was the faintest off or mismatched to ensure Harry Potter got THAT ONE TRUE wand to surpass all others? ...Yeah, thats Marc except with your specs. The review below in 2018 is absolute absurdity--- He's extremely kind, personable and knowledgeable especially compared to my other experiences elsewhere. In fact, I live in Sacramento and make a personal trek annually to Long Beach with the primary intention of seeking new frames and Marc's expertise whom I only trust. My latest trip for frames had me dragging my partner along with me who is a glasses wearer as well. Second Street Optique completely lost me as a customer. I purchased my last two pairs of frames --with lenses-- here. It had been a few years and I was looking to buy another pair. Not because I need them but because I like variety. And if I'm to be frank, the pair I purchased last I love, however I rarely wear them because the power is too strong in the lenses. After today, however, I will NEVER be back to this shop and will be sure to let anyone who asks know of the rudeness I experienced with the owner. A friend and I were on a walk (we exercise together once a week by taking walks through the neighborhood). I'd asked her if she'd mind looking at frames with me and so we went in to browse. I tried on a pair I thought I was interested in and took a picture and also took a picture of the style, since I don't bring my wallet with me when I'm walking and wanted to have the style number handy so I'd be able to call them later with my prescription information since I'd done that in the past, also. (it can be hard for me to get in based on their biz hours and my own) As we're browsing and I take a picture of myself in the frames the owner rudely says he doesn't allow any pictures inside the store. This, of course, comes as a complete surprise as I had purchased two pairs of glasses here in the past and took pictures prior to show my boyfriend for a second opinion. I remarked surprisingly that he'd let me take photos in the past and he said, again rudely "Not anymore" I was incredibly surprised and shocked by his demeanor and attitude. When I mentioned as much he acted as if he didn't care and basically told us to leave. I own a business in Long Beach and can not fathom ever speaking to a customer the way he did to me. It was gross. We ended up walking down the street to another optometry shop where I not only found an amazing pair of frames but was encouraged by the woman working to take as many photos as possible to make the best decision. Something I wholeheartedly appreciate since I always end purchasing higher end frames and my lenses are always $350+ in addition; I pay entirely out of pocket for all of my vision needs and my glasses are typically $750-$900.
