I've been a patient here for almost 5 years and I recommend Dr. Stevens to everyone! She is very knowledgeable and friendly. I've noticed that what sets her apart from other optometrists is how she cares for every patient and genuinely does her best for each one. I often get in for an eye exam the same day I call and am able to get glasses that are fully covered by my vision insurance. Prices are very reasonable and they have a great selection of both frames and contacts. The opticians Monica and Olivier are also great at what they do! They have so much experience in the field so they can quickly tell what glasses look and fit best on patients. Always love coming here. read more

I've been going here for at this point probably two decades, since it was Dr. Decarlo's practice. When Dr. Stevens took over, I was skeptical, but too lazy to start over, so I gave it a go. Let me just say, she has definitely taken the baton and run with it. She's kind and knowledgeable, as one would hope, but she's also something I didn't know I needed in an optometrist: she's someone who does more than simple eye exams, but spots actual medical issues and refers out as needed. As I was in her room just today for my annual exam, I took notice of her MANY degrees on the wall, and suddenly the mystery was solved. This is a sharp and very educated doctor, who clearly takes her job and patients seriously. She spotted my son's keracotonus five years ago, she spotted my high blood pressure that my doctors were telling me not to worry about (last year, but also asking me about today even before my exam - for a moment I was confused, like, "are you my primary, what is even going on??"), and she has been instrumental in getting me to the right people for some last minute ophthalmologist issues otherwise. Shouts out also to Olivier, who remains a delightful fixture since it was Dr. Decarlo's practice (and always guides to the right frames to best flatter your face), and I also appreciate their low pressure sales - they've cheerfully given me my prescriptions for the past few years to fill elsewhere, without making me feel bad or guilty for not purchasing glasses through them -- though Olivier always offers thoughtful and excellent guidance with respect to the right frames to best flatter/fit, otherwise. They have the cutest frames at the Optometry Store. Dr Tonya Stevens is efficient and capable. Her office is well maintained, stylish and clean. I had to giggle when completing the initial-intake a few years ago. The medical Intake form is on an iPad. The drop-down menu had like a gazzelion options for identity. Very LGBGQT forward. Across the street from the LBVA at the intersection of 7th and Bellflower, close to PCH. The parking is close by and safe. I would not make a noon appointment because of lunch traffic at this popular corner. read more

I went here to get my eyes checked out for a new prescription for glasses and contacts. The online appointment is essentially just an email request form so it would be nice if you could schedule a specific time for an appointment. It took about 24 hours to get a response and I was able to get a time that worked okay for me. Given there is only 1 optometrist, that's not too bad. Dr. Stevens was very knowledgeable, and got me a good prescription and was helpful in explaining changes in my vision. The billing process was a little confusing in terms of what my insurance did or did not cover and I wish they explained that a little better given that they told me something different than my insurance did. I wouldn't recommend buying glasses or contacts here since you can get them online for cheaper but for purposes of getting your eyes checked out, this is a great place to go! read more

I haven't received my glasses yet, but so far the folks at this shop are AMAZING!!! Dr. Tania was very quick and personable while being very thorough with the exam. The opticians are very kind as well. I love that they offer Tiffany & Co., Prada, and other luxury brands, as well as iGreen. But next year, I just might go with Tiffany & Co. because I love that blue!! I came here because they carry iGreen frames, which are the lightest frames I've ever worn. I can't wear metal frames because I have an allergy to base metals, and perhaps that is also why anything with base metals seems to peel or turn colors (in addition to giving me a painful rash!) after sitting on my skin for a while. I'm super excited to see if they can replace my lenses in my iGreen frames, and then I'll just need to buy new temples (because the ones I have are peeling after (7?) years). Good customer service and Doctor was very friendly. They have good selection of glasses and frames, and they also accept many insurances. Only problem was that it took four weeks to get my new glass but I'll give it to Covid times. Also I had fitting problem with my glass after I received it and they fixed it very quickly. read more

Not a great experience, would not recommend to anyone. Dr does not listen to you as a patient and looks to get you in and out. Went and got a second opinion on prescription Dr. Stevens gave me, and found out I was overprescribed and diagnosed with an entirely different eye issue that Dr. Stevens did not catch. She now will not credit or exchange the contacts I ordered and never used as a result of the issues. Anyways, overall wouldn't recommend and suggest looking elsewhere for serious eye issues. read more

I had my eye exam in late December. I picked up my new glasses in the first week of January. I purchased my contact lenses at Cosco and saved a lot of money in doing so. I overheard how much is charged for contacts in Dr. Stevens office and it's a rip off. During my visit and after the exam i was advised that i needed stronger contact lenses and a stronger reading lens. When i returned to work from the holiday break using the new contacts and lenses i could not read emails, everything was a blur. I emailed Dr. Stevens twice and did not hear back. I made an appointment to see her again and she suggested 'computer' glasses. My insurance had already covered their portion of my glasses and my responsibility was $130 plus six months of contact lenses combined almost $250 on me. The computer glasses Dr. Stevens suggested were $200 and she said she would split the cost with me. I left thinking i should not have to pay anything. I ordered what was advised for my well being. I went back to the old contact lens (another Costco purchase) strength and still using my old readers. So what did i pay for? The bottom line is i don't think i needed to increase my lens strength, hence the fact i am wearing my old glasses i got under the care of Dr. DiCarlo and the same for contact lenses. I did like the office staff, always friendly and the location is perfect. However i won't be returning, i think Dr. Stevens should have made an attempt at her expense to make it right. read more

I went for my visit in December of 2020. The cost of their glasses is ridiculous. When I asked for my rx they gave me an attitude that day and any time after when I came in to ask for a copy. I took my rx to another place and they informed me I would need progressive lenses or two pair one for reading and another for distance. This should been explained to me when I saw dr Stevens in December. As a physician it's her job to inform me of her findings and not just add expensive lenses to make a buck. Right across from the VA hospital, this place was a short walk. There was no line, I walked in on Cinco De Mayo and got a quick but thorough eye exam. They accept most insurance vision plans. They have a huge stylish selection to choose from. A large selection of the choice frames too. The staff is very knowledgable and courteous. The helped me narrow down my choices and I walked out with a great classic selection with a tint. Dr. Decarlo is very pleasant to deal with, he was courteous and very detailed in his explanation of what and why he was doing things and whats going on with my eyes. Love the place. I'm a person on a budget, so I was overally excited about their eye exam and glasses deal for $99. It definitely helps when you don't have insurance. I got my glasses the same day as i did my exam. I also did my contacts there. Only disappointment I had was when I had set up an appointment for my contact fitting right when they opened. I had to wait about 45 minutes before i got to see the Optometrist. As if i didn't need to get to work right after. Other than that, the staff is really nice. The optometrist was very helpful. & i have also recommended my coworkers and my sister to come here. So definitely check it out sometime. read more

I had a great experience as a patient here. There was almost no wait time prior to my exam. Dr. Stevens did an excellent job. She answered all my questions with the casual confidence that you get from someone who has been doing this for a while. The staff were attentive and helpful. There was an issue with my insurance plan and the staff did their best to resolve it. Everything (all the charges, etc...) was explained slowly and in detail. Is it normal to charge $75 for a contact lens "fitting"? I'm perplexed about this charge, since my insurance covers all but $10 of an "eye exam," yet nowhere does my EyeMed paperwork mention anything about "fitting" costs. $75 for a contact lens "fitting" seems like an excessive (and maybe even obscene) price to pay just to have someone place some disposable contacts in your eyes and ask, "Feel okay?" So Yelpers, if you decide to visit Dr. Decarlo for an exam and new contacts, ask up front about the cost of it all--or better yet--call around first to see what some of the other local optometrists charge for the "total exam" and "contact lens fitting." I made the mistake of not doing that, but now I've learned my lesson. Next year I'll be on the horn with at least three or four local optometrists prior to any appointment making. I refuse to be singing the optometric blues next year. With all of that being said, Dr. Decarlo and his staff are fine for what they do. The exam was quick, efficient, and painless, and everyone seemed friendly enough. However, if by chance you're looking for unique and stylish glasses frames, this is definitely not the place to go. Their idea of "hip" frames are "Lucky Brand." I'd recommend cruising over to Oliver Peoples at Crystal Court for new frames or go on-line for vintage ones (Allyn Scura has some cuties). But oh, optometry, why must I rely on your practitioners and technologies? Why, oh why, must I keep singing the optometric blues? read more

I sent my son into the office to decipher the prescription they wrote. He came back out and said they were mean and short with him. I went in and received the same treatment. The female at the front desk said any optometrist could read the prescription and would know what was written. As I walked out she snickered. Seems like they don't need and want the business. Dr. De Carlo again reconfirmed my earlier positive feedback! I went by on Saturday July 2nd with the intention of having my sunglasses looked at for a broken hinge. Surprised that they made it a well deserved long holiday weekend. Even more surprised (although I really shouldn't have been) I received a call PERSONALLY from Dr. De Carlo that same day. He was so concerned that I made a trip to his office. I explained the situation and that I would see them the following Saturday. Instead he asked me to call Tuesday so that they can order a replacement frame to minimize the delay. Such outstanding customer service!! Decent prices on eyeglasses. Little to no wait time for appointment. I bought eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses here. Some small cracks started to appear on the edge of one of my lenses. This was about 5 months after purchase. Although this is a bummer, I've had this occur on other glasses purchased at other different stores. Dr Decarlo was very nice. This review IS NOT a review of Dr. DeCarlo himself, nor any of his long time office staff. Unfortunately, there is a new Dr. in his place, along with a new staff. The new staff is extremely unorganized, un-knowledgeable, and lacks a certain level of professionalism that should be expected. On two visits, I experienced multiple complaints and lack of couth by the front desk staff. My family and I have been patients for over 5 years, coming in every January like clock work. My two daughters have come to love the assistance provided when choosing glasses. Now that they are older teenagers, they appreciate how they were treated like family with such care and affection. Needless to say, we will not be coming back, and are now searching for a new Optometrist. read more
