I love dr de Carlo, Olivier and now the new dr Juli. This office is state of the art and the staff fantastic.

This review IS NOT a review of Dr. DeCarlo himself, nor any of his long time office staff. Unfortunately, there is a new Dr. in his place, along with a new staff. The new staff is extremely unorganized, un-knowledgeable, and lacks a certain level of professionalism that should be expected. On two visits, I experienced multiple complaints and lack of couth by the front desk staff. My family and I have been patients for over 5 years, coming in every January like clock work. My two daughters have come to love the assistance provided when choosing glasses. Now that they are older teenagers, they appreciate how they were treated like family with such care and affection. Needless to say, we will not be coming back, and are now searching for a new Optometrist. read more

I have been going here for years and have been amazingly happy with seeing the same people working here year after year. Everyone is so pleasant and helpful. I never feel rushed or pressured to get something. They are patient until I find exactly what I love. I am always happy with my glasses: the timeliness of getting them, the correctness of the order, and the glasses themselves always perfect for my eyesight. When my dad was alive and we brought him here, he had trouble speaking and always understanding things. They treated him with dignity and kindness, and so patient with him. Dr. Steven's and her staff are amazing! Every time I go In i feel like I'm being greeted by friends rather than as a customer. They have always been extremely helpful getting me glasses and sunglasses that I'm happy with, even going out of their way to find a specific pair of Raybans and switching out ones that ended up being a poor fit. I called two days in a row to schedule an appointment for contact lenses. Both times i was put on hold so they can "look up my chart" then was hung up on after waiting for almost five minutes, twice. Disappointing because my last visit for glasses was great. Looks like they changed staff. Will have to be looking for a new optometrist. read more

Dr. De Carlos is the best optometrist I have ever known, and given that I am nearly blind that says something. His practice is consistently excellent in terms of availability of appointments, attitude, and assistance with frame selection. Karen, Maureen, and Olivier have been a part of Dr. De Carlo's practice for many years, and are well-trained and knowledgeable, particularly when dealing with high maintenance, indecisive, and insecure patients such as myself. As noted on the practice's web page, both Karen and Maureen are able to provide adjunct services regarding the burgeoning Long Beach nightlife. Olivier is from the land of France and shares his French charm and accent with all who visit the office. The office space is pleasant, providing toys for children and baseball paraphernalia (albeit Cubs-related) to be enjoyed by all. Dr. De Carlo is kind and thorough in his examination, and has proven to be an excellent diagnostician. He is nice to look at and always smells good. I rate Dr. Michael De Carlos and his practice as #1. My brother and his wife travel very far to enjoy the quality of service offered by this establishment, and should I move away, I would come back too. DeCarlo is alright. He's nice, professional, your typical optometrist. The lady at the front, his wife I believe, is the opposite. I had to wait over an hour, watched her treat a minority like a criminal and saw her talk down to another customer. After an hour of waiting (with an appointment!) she asked if I could come back another day because she overbooked. She also berated me over the phone about an outstanding bill I called to get an explanation on. With insurance they wanted to charge me my $40 copay and an additional $85 to remove a piece of sand or particle from my eye. It took less than 5 minutes. I simply wanted to know why it was so expensive and instead of explaining why she told me about taking her daughter to the ER and how expensive that visit was. Basically, get over it. Great customer service? I think not. I now go to Lisa Hopkins and her office was the complete opposite. The staff were great, she was great, no rudeness and most of I'm not supporting a family who thinks their too good for the local clientele of Long Beach. There are many other options, please go elsewhere. read more

He accepts insurance and it is very easy to schedule an appointment. His office staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Tania is sooooooo incredibly sweet! (I feel like she is the only one to get my eye right!) and she is so gentle and has a sweet voice & cares. no joke...Also- I have "White coat syndrome" (incredibly nervous in any type of doctor situation)- yet her staff on board are so incredibly calm & collected and sweet as well I never have an issue going in. Also , the beautiful lady with the short hair that has been there forever remembered me a year later and my story (stuff I'm going through) . And asked how I was... meant a lot. I have been a patient of Dr. DeCarlo's for over 15 years and he is the best- expert optometrist, patient and caring. He found an abnormality on my exam a few years ago and referred me appropriately and now continues to follow me. I am a high maintenance patient and he always has the time to help. The office staff are top notch- Olivier, Karen and Maureen make an awesome team- they so helpful with everything- billing, selecting cute eye wear and they always are friendly and happy. The shop has an extensive up-to-date selection of eye-wear and a broad range of pricing which is also really nice. This practice gets my highest praise. read more

So, he gets a four star, pretty good if you ask me.... And this is too no fault of his own... I have never had an assigned optometrist before this guy, so he was nice, and helpful....And like I said, 4 stars to no fault of his own... (Automatic -1 star for the D-R)I don't like anyone with the name Dr. in front because I hate doctors... no offense... I am so bad that I got nervous going to the damn eye Dr. !!! So I picked this guy from a list at work, and a co worker uses him aswell, so I felt a bit better about that.... When I walked in one of the ladies at the desk was a little prewdy, but the other was really nice, so it evened out... Their selection of frames was great! They had an assortment of price ranges for all groups. When it came time to see the doctor, I told him that I was VERY nervous, and needed him to tell me what he was doing b4 he did it, he followed my instructions well, so I was a good girl and I followed his directions, he was a bit dry, but towards the end he talked and laughed a little... *OH! note~! Once my husband was driving and something flew into his eye... Not like a tiny particle but like a small rock, but huge really considering it was in his eye, we had no idea where it was, we sat in the car pulled over for like 15 minutes while his sad little red eye watered and watered, he was in so much pain, so I called Dr. Decarlo and asked for help, he told us what to do and what to buy, and said if it was not well by the next day he would open up his office to see him (mind you he was not on my insurance at the time) any ways, all the tips worked, and the next morning the damn rock worked its way up to the surface of his eye and we got it out. Let me just say Dr. Decarlo was a nice man but his staff is SO rude. If you're not buying from their store then they will give you the cold shoulder and talk to you as if they don't value you as a patient. I called to verify a prescription but because I wanted my prescription to buy glasses online for a cheaper price(I'm a student!) the receptionist refused to help and said good luck and hung up. I'm sorry but just because I'm not buying from your overpriced selection does not mean I am not a patient. It is an optometrist not a sales store, right? I didn't ask for any help buying glasses online I simply asked to verify the prescription because the handwriting was not legible. I will NOT be returning anymore, learn some customer service lady. OK, so I went to this place beacause it is right across the street from my house. Everyone in the office is really nice and I got in and out of my appt in no time. I went here because i thought my VSP insuance would cover the exam, but I guess there is an extra $75 fitting fee. ( ok, so I should have checked before my appointment, this is my own fault) I thought their prices on contacts were a little high, so I decided to take my perscription over to Costco. I had to call Dr. Decarlo's office 3 times to get them to finally fax it over and then when I had called back a few days later to say I still hadnt recieved my fax, the lady rudely told me that she already faxed it over to my Mom. My Mom? Really? I'm 23 years old. thanks. So I finally got my blurry fax and took it over to Costco, well it turns out they didnt write down my perscription correctly, and Costco wouldnt fill it. So I called over to Dr. Decarlo's office and nicly explained my situation and asked if they could fax over the correct perscription, the lady on the phone ( name unkown) rudely told me she was already off and she had to go and didnt have time to do it. Wow Great way to do your Job. Needless to say, I will never be going back here. I hope they are nicer to their other costumers. read more

I have never in my life felt compelled to write a Yelp review - or any review for that matter - but Dr. Dicarlo and his staff certainly warranted one. I made an appointment with Dr, Dicarlo on the recommendation of several of my co-workers. I have been going to a different optometrist for a few years only because of its proximity to my house, but I was never completely satisfied with my experiences. It was very easy to make an appointment with Dr, Dicarlo, and when I arrived the staff was incredibly friendly. I was laughing and joking with them right away - the vibe was great. I'm only sad that I did not catch the name of the lovely women behind the desk, because she certainly deserves a shout out by name. There was virtually no wait time for my 4pm appointment, and when called to see Dr. Dicarlo, he was efficient, friendly, and made me feel at ease immediately. A fabulous man named Olivier helped me pick my glasses. I really enjoyed our banter.He was knowledgeable about the extensive selection of frames, and had me laughing to boot. He helped me pick out two pairs of glasses - one with progressive lenses, and the other pair strictly for reading. It was 5pm when I paid and left. Olivier said that he would do his best to get my reading glasses the done the same day, and the office closed at 6, so I was skeptical. I did some shopping in the shopping center, and left to go home when I got a phone call stating that my reading glasses were done. It was 5:45! I have never heard of such a thing as getting you glasses on the same day. The service was extraordinary, and their product exceptional. Go see Dr. Dicarlo and his wonderful staff. When we moved to the area in 2014, I search yelp for an optometrist and chose Dr DeCarlo based on his very high review ratings. I'm one of those fussy people who can't stand even the slightest blur in my vision so of course its traditionally been hard for me to get the right prescription. I was very surprised when he knocked it out of the park (he's a big baseball fan) on my first visit. I returned this week and again received exceptional care. Maureen helped me choose just the right frames and the entire staff was friendly and accommodating. They worked with my insurance to get the best benefit on a blended lens in a classy Gucci frame and a computer/reading lens in a very cool Geek frame. He has been my eye guy for a few years now. It started first with contacts. In regards to paying for the fitting I thought it was fine to charge $75. The first appointment was an easy 30 minutes, the one week follow up was probably 20 or so. I think it is worth his and his staff's time. He does charge more for contacts but you can always get them off line if they aren't back ordered. For me, it wasn't worth it. I needed to get glasses for my pre op preparation for lasik. One office visit and I walked out the door with fitted glasses in about 1 hour. I was happy. Now, I have just completed my one month follow up with Lasik and he helped me out immensely with the whole process. He will be doing all of my post op checkups and he is the reason I chose the surgeon I did. I feel very comfortable with him and his staff and trust them to the max with my most precious body part. My eyes. I love going in, being greeted by first name and then when I sit down too wait they look at me funny. There isn't a wait at Dr. Decarlo's, duh! This is what any medical practice should strive to become. read more

Dr. stevens is great. I see her regularly, but this time I got something in my eye -- turned out to be a very small piece of metal. The doctor dealt with it as an emergency without an appointment, and even got me in to see a specialist immediately. She was also excellent at follow-up, scheduling me twice to make sure it had healed. Great staff too! read more

I am sooo sorry Dr. DeCarlo has sold his practice. I have been a loyal patient for many years and appreciated the excellent service provided by him and his entire staff. I called today to re-order contacts, was placed on hold so long I thought I had been disconnected. I called back and again was placed on hold for an unreasonable amount of time and had to hang up again. The gal called me back and seemed very confused, had long pauses as she rifled through my chart and I had to repeat several times what I was re-ordering. I had my annual exam to check on a cataract in my right eye to see if I needed surgery this year only to find out I can wait. In the meantime I needed reading glasses so Dr. DeCarlo provided an exam and Maureen worked with me to select a great pair of reading glasses. I am contemplating sunglasses and will probably pick a pair out as well. Great customer service in selecting a great frame type and color for me and they are a knowledgeable team with a great selection of designer frames, types and colors. Please note that Dr De Carlo no longer owns this business and most of his staff have left. I went into the office twice in an attempt to get my files. The staff was new and didn't have the time to comply with my request. The next day, I received an email saying that I could receive my files at a cost of .25 per page. It would have been nice to have been told that on my two visits there. I have chosen Lisa Hopkins as my new optometrist and would recommend her for your optometry needs. I came in for the first time, it was a last minute stop by. My child broke her glasses and we were in need of another pair. We were seen fast even on a busy monday and the help to find the right frame was exceptional on a teenager who cannot make their mind up. What I did not care for was a long wait for the glasses to come in.. or I was told the first pair would be in a couple of days the first pair comes in fast because they are done there? I belive thats what she said then the other pair is done in the warehouse and they will be sent within a week .. ok a week later and still no glasses. Just hard when u have a child that depends on glasses to see.. is this a norm? If it was going to take a week i wish I was told it will be here in a week. read more
