They only carry frames where the consumer has to pay out of pocket. This office should not take on Medi-Cal beneficiaries if they can't provide a full free service to these individuals. I'm 76. I have been going to eye doctors a long time. This guy has only been doing this for "35 years" he said. He also said how professional he was. I had an exam there through my Medicare insurance plan. It doesn't cover glasses so I opt for glasses on the internet. I have had no problems for the past ten years of doing this. His glasses are too expensive. So, I came back to his office, a little while after the exam, to have them help me put the proper information on the form I get from the website. The 'girls' in the office were rude...so rude that I got a bit louder. That takes a lot. Then the doctor comes out and says "keep it down"... Then we go outside. He tells me he's been in the business for 35 years. I tell him all I wanted was a bit of help to put his doctor scratched numbers properly on the form for the internet glasses. I also said he never measured or put my Pupillary Distance on his 'prescription' sheet. He says "just use your old one, it don't change"... Well, maybe it don't, I'm not a doctor but for 58 years, the optometrists have always put this down...I told him, "that's why I'm here, to make sure I get a proper pair of glasses, but not from his office. I don't have the $400+ for them... Very NON-Professional and too busy to care about a patient, only worrying about loosing his few dollars from me, for 'his' eye glasses... I scheduled appointments for my teenage sons to be seen by Dr. Lauro Due to his proximity to my neighborhood. As new patients, I expected there would be a longer wait time then there was. I was pleasantly surprised with the short wait time and happy with the pleasant attitude of the front staff. Would not recommend going there the receptionist Anna is very rude she even stuck the middle finger to us because she didn't want to give a refund on there over priced glasses she kept adding fees towards the glasses I was going to get. Stay away from that place very bad service reception is very bad attitude when you complain about something and a Dr. Is even worse when you complain. I went there for an appointment for my annual eye exam in September when I got there everything seemed fine at first so I explain to the eye doctor about my problems that I have with my vision as far as one of my eyes being damage when I was a kid so I explain to him about my prescription my old prescription number I told him not to mess with that too much because it was going to fuck up my vision He explained to me I've been doing this for 35 years he says I know what I'm doing he says the new prescription number Is going to be better you will see things better so I said to myself well he's the doctor I guess he knows what he's doing so he gave me the new prescription numbers I paid $190 to get my glasses done with the new prescription I come back about a week later to pick them up I put them on and just like I knew it my vision was all messed up because he change the numbers they assured me all don't worry about it try them on for about a week it should go away I actually gave them two weeks and it still wasn't improving so I go back there to complain about it and the doctor got mad at me he said I'm only going to do the prescription one more time if it's not done right then that's your problem you're going to have to re-pay money all over again to redo them I mean fuck he's the fucking doctor he's telling me that I need a new prescription I'm gonna listen and get a new prescription so he does them again but then yet he fails to switch my numbers back to the way they were so when I call and complain like about a month and a half later all I needed them to do was just redo my prescription with the number that I think that I need it so I could see better he basically told me well the office told me that I'm not welcome there no more and that I need to find a new eye doctor for any more services so basically whenever you complain they're telling you to fuck off . Very bad service please stay away from there if you don't want no bad experience from that office don't take this review to lightly you will regret it if you go there and your prescription doesn't come out to the way you wanted it and you complain they're basically going to tell you to go fuck off . read more

Went here based off the good reviews, unfortunately would not be returning. The lack of competency the receptionist had when it came to my insurance and how it was applied to my visit was the worst. After my visit I had called back to clarify my charges for that visit and found out she was charging me for my contact lens exam in full amount when my insurance clearly covers a portion and I only pay a deductible. When I asked why I was being charged she stated, because I chose not to order contacts off them I was being charged the full exam amount, makes no sense. I tried explaining to her that regardless my insurance pays for some of it and I pay the difference. Then I asked her to switch my order to contacts instead of glasses because I wanted to use my contact lens allowance. And she still wanted to charge the full amount for contact lens exam. She became very rude because I kept informing her that she was wrong and if she was confused she can call VSP to verify my eligibility. She kept insisting that because I chose eyeglasses and not contacts for my order that day I pay the full amount for contact lens exam....again WRONG. After we clarified that I was being overcharged she changed my order and had to refund me, and was even giving me a hard time about the refund over the phone. Well it wasnt my fault you chose to overcharge a client and got worked up when being questioned that you refuse to use the insurance the client had. When I asked about the allowance if I chose not to use it that day, she mentioned I would lose it...again WRONG VSP allows you to have that to use for that whole year on what you want for contacts even if its not at that place. The whole time this conversation took place all I heard in the background were the other receptionist laughing, unprofessional to say the least. I hate businesses that are dishonest with their clients to try to make money like this lady tried. Sad that you have people like this working for the company Aside from that the eye doctor was great and this review is not for him but the receptionist who failed to educate herself on a client's insurance and how to apply it to a client's visit because she wanted to make a quick sale. read more

OK, I've only been to this optometrist once so keep that in mind when making your optometry decisions. While I was researching an optometrist to go to, I looked at several places around Long Beach and they all had at least one very bad experience or a few obviously fake reviews. I took my chances with Dr. Lauro and I am very glad I did. First of all, the location is pretty convenient. It's right off the 405 freeway and there were just a few parking spaces available, but it didn't prove to be a problem for me. Dr. Lauro is very polite and didn't make me feel like a test subject so I appreciated that. He spoke in a very competent and knowledgeable way and even guessed the right contacts and contact solution I used when I couldn't remember the name (I told him I only remembered the color of the box). He's very down to earth so I felt very comfortable just small-talking with him. He had some sample contacts that I was able to put on and take home right away so I was super happy about that (I was going to the gym that night and didn't want to go with my glasses on). One of the contacts was off by .25 but that was all he had so he promised he would even replace my sample contact when I came in to pick up my order. The very next day, my contacts came in (which is a big plus for me because I used to have to wait a week at my old optometrist before I got even a call back), and when I picked them up, included was the corrected sample contact lens. Now that is Grade A service! Highly recommended! I've already told my family and friends about this office! read more

First time visiting an optometrist, and thanks to Yelp for Dr. Lauro. The parking wasn't that bad, although it can get packed easily because of the others buildings located in the area (also, it is right next to Walgreens) Okay, so we called for a first-time appointment and Julie gladly helped me with the process: she even called me the day before my appt for a reminder, which is nice for people who is easily forgetful lol. She was also friendly, helpful and a bit funny haha. The office is huge and clean: they also have all the glasses displays for the people who needs glasses and chooses their frames. As for Dr. Lauro, he is very kind and helpful. He will for sure take his time for you-- he's very patient. He's easy to talk to, we even had conversation about Yelp lol. Basically, the whole process is very quick, especially with the assistance of their great front desk ladies. I'm a case manager who works with mentally I'll individuals who had a client in desperate need of an eye exam.. because of the stigma with mental illness I immediately assumed they were going to be rude, irritated and disrespectful towards my client (which I go through often)...BUT, that definitely wasnt the case with this doctor AND his employees...they are so understanding and compassionate towards their customers. The time had come to finally go get my eyes checked, and likely get glasses. I checked Yelp, and read many reviews, and finally settled on Dr Lauro. My appointment was at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, got there 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and got started promptly at 3:30...The entire staff, as well as Dr Lauro made this an easy, comfortable appointment. Explained all options, and procedures very clearly, and completed all tests in about 30 - 40 minutes (Also, explained how my insurance worked as we went along, which was VERY helpful). The ladies at the front desk helped me pick out glasses, which were ready a week later. I would highly recommend Dr Lauro for an eye exam, and/or glasses - Everyone here is wonderful, and I will definitely be going back for my next check up. A+++++++++++++++++ all the way!! Great guy, gets the job done for my contacts and glasses.... For the first time however I had a concern with floaters in my eyes. This is a problem that shows up when you age. He took the time to dilate my eyes so he could view inside. He confirmed that yes I do have floating debris in the viscous of my eye and assured me it was benign and is basically an annoyance. By the way, this was the first time in 63 years I've had my eyes dilated. If this is necessary in your case, I would recommend you bring someone with you to drive you home..... Otherwise, no complaints here...! read more

He explained everything very thoroughly, and offered me different options for my eyesight. He tested me for glaucoma and other problems in my eye.
