This is a great neighborhood optometry office. My previous optometrist had retired and I was kind of stranded and found this place close to my home. At first there was no availability for about a month but staff member Matt was very helpful and suggested putting me on the waiting list in case there was a cancellation. Long story short, I ended up getting in later that same afternoon. Dr. Noda was great, very friendly and thorough, and the optician Veronica was very helpfu l and I'll probably end up getting at least one pair there instead of my usual Costco run. Dr Yamamoto was very thorough, and noticed that I had a small cataract. He recommended that I get the surgeries, but since I am new to Long Beach I happily await a second meeting with him in 2026. First of all IGNORE THE OLD REVIEWS. I have been coming LB Optometric Group for over a year now and have been very satisfied with each visit. Setting up appointments is relatively easy, the staff will confirm your appointment at least the week before, plus remind you with a text message the day prior so that you won't miss your appointments. LB Optometric Group provided excellent service and professional care. I am extremely happy with the service that they provide. Matt is very welcoming and friendly. Excellent service. I bought my glasses from Moscot and had Costco put in the lenses. When I got the frames back they were not fitting around my ears correctly. Moscot would not fix them and Costco couldn't fix them. LBOG fixed them in two seconds no problem. read more

They also send out a reminder text to confirm your upcoming appointment. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The Dr Yamamoto is awesome! Very calm guy. I've been meaning to write this review for quite some time, and it's long overdue. Working in the neighborhood for nearly 9 years, I only discovered their office just 2 years ago. I seriously wish I had known about them earlier! Dr. Yamamoto is awesome. Staff/Attentiveness: I like the family feeling when I come for my annual eye visits. The optometrist is very professional and patient. Like how he explains the nature of my eyes and if there are any improvements/preventives I can implement in my daily routine. Product: I have NO COMPLAINTS! I always find a pair of frames that fits my personality and narrow face. I was way over due for an eye exam and new glasses. I found this group through my insurance. They are close to my house and the office is nice. I went in for my exam and it went smoothly. The doctor seemed competent but nothing spectacular. I had to wait quite a while to get helped by the optician to order new glasses. Their frame selection seemed pretty good with a decent range in prices for different budgets. The problems started when I got my glasses. I went to pick them up. When I tried them on...whoa!...nothing made sense! Everything was a mess visually. I told them that there was something wrong, that I couldn't see a thing. The optician insisted that I just needed to get used to them because they were progressives. That's great but I've been wearing progressives for years and never had a problem with them. Even my first pair were no problem for me and I was completely adjusted within the hour. I kept telling her there was a problem and she just ignored me and told me to give it a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, my sunglasses that I ordered at the same time were fine. Oh and I was told they didn't have any cleaning cloths or solution which one is usually given when they get glasses. So off I went wearing my horrible new glasses that I couldn't see through. I kept trying to wear them in order to get used to them but to no avail. I couldn't see a thing - how could I wear them? After two weeks, I called and was told to "give it another week". I tried - no improvement. I finally went back and the doctor seemed really annoyed and said my eyes had probably changed in the week it took me to get my glasses after my exam. Ummmm...I doubt they could possibly change that much. He gave me the entire exam again and he was very rude and impatient during it. My exam results were exactly the same as before. FINALLY, they decide to check out the glasses and guess what? The left and right lenses were reversed! Since my left eye is radically worse than my right eye, it really made a huge problem. Now, they changed their tone and were very contrite but it was a little late in my book. I understand that sometimes mistakes are made - I wasn't upset about that - but the way they insisted it was my problem and were so rude about it really irks me. When I said there was a problem with them in the first place, all they had to do was spend two minutes checking them but instead I ended up going around for three weeks half blind because they wouldn't listen. So they sent them back to be corrected and I used my old glasses. Once again, no cleaning cloths or solution. I got my glasses about a week later. They were fine. And again, no cleaning cloths or solution. I give up. If I could give the people at this office negative stars, I would due to how incredibly rude they were. And what kind of optometrist office doesn't have cleaning cloths or solution for a whole month???? Oh I should add that this all happened about 2 years ago. update: I see there are several five star reviews that were added Immediately after mine. It's been almost two years and those reviewers still only have the one review for LBOG and nothing else. We all know what that means. How about actually improving your service instead of just posting phony reviews??? read more

I've only come here to get new frames and contacts. I have not seen the doctor here. That being said, the customer service here isn't that great. I was told I would receive a phone call when my new frames were ready. No one called. I have them over two weeks to call me. I came in and they apologized for not calling but only after I mentioned it. I'm very big on customer service and this place needs to step their game up! I won't be back unless I'm in a bind. Today I came to get my frames adjusted and poor customer service again. No one acknowledged me and I asked if I should come back and then I was helped. Came here cause they accept my insurance and it was the closest to my home. Initial exam went fine, doctor was nice and very thorough with my exam. They also have a large selection of glasses to choose from. After ordering my glasses they told me it would take 1-2 weeks for them to arrive. I waited 2 weeks and still had not heard back from them, so on a thursday I gave them a call around 11am and they had a hard time finding me in their system, when they finally found me they said that my glasses have arrived but were still in the package that was sent to them and they hadn't opened it. They should be opening their packages right away and contacting their customers as soon as they are in. We are paying customers who need our glasses to see! I had to have my husband go pick up my glasses cause I was unable to and around 2pm he arrived their and they were closed!! He said he saw someone inside and he knocked on the door and the guy ignored him, door was locked! 2pm is a very odd time to close, especially on a thursday since customers are working at this time and are unable to come during work hours. I am a manager in the service industry and I know horrible customer service when I see it....and this place has really bad customer service. I have yet to pick up my glasses cause I'm unable to drive due to a surgery and husband is too busy too, so it was very inconvenient that they had closed at 2pm on a thursday. My wife and I just went here for our annual eye exam last week. There was a lot of construction on the street so we initially passed by it. The key landmark to look for is that it's next to a Subway. The office was pretty nice and everyone there seemed very friendly. We both had an appointment w/ Dr. Shawn Yamamoto. He was very good and spent the extra time to really help us. I know I've definitely felt rushed when seeing other doctors but didn't feel that way at all with this doctor. We both got new sample lenses to test this week and they seem to be working okay for us. I like mine but my wife will probably go back to her old brand. We are going to be heading back this week to order our contacts for the year. I definitely thought it was a good experience. read more

I'm just going to ignore the old reviews here. These guys were great for fitting me in the same day I called. The Dr. Yamamoto was professional and we targeted in my vision. The office space is clean and well kept. There is an eye glass shop attached next door with lots to sample. Frames with lenses start around ninety two bones for tier one. There are cheaper online, but it's nice to be able to sample before you buy and support local. They do exchanges as well I hear. They have some pretty nice styles, I will likely go back to support the store. Didn't have any problems getting attention from the desk. read more

I have a prescription with an expiration date of 3-26-14 and called to order more contacts. They would not give them to me without seeing the doctor. I had to go to have my eyes checked. I broke my glasses and it had been three years since I last had my eyes checked. The place is very close to my house and the staff is friendly. The Optometrist is very professional. He explained every aspect of the exam. I am a family physician and it is appreciated that he did not assume that since I had a medical background that I would already know everything about the eyes. The selection of glasses at the Optician section of the practice is a little lacking, but I was told that any glasses I find online they maybe able to find and order for me. I've been to this office for two years. I think the doctor is fine, but I don't like how the doctor's time is so circumscribed. He pretty much hides back in the exam room and does not interact with patients outside that room. The office staff perform some of the more mundane tasks like glaucoma screening. I suppose this structure is efficient (i.e., profitable) from a business perspective and might be fine if the staff seemed more skilled. Unfortunately they do not. Both years have been difficult when it came time for the glasses selection and fitting. The staff lack skill to explain options and pricing. I came away feeling I had been sold a car with a bunch of options I didn't want or need. I am totally happy to upgrade and pay more for options that will improve my life. But they seem to be more about maximizing the price than getting me the best glasses for my needs. I come here because they accept VSP insurance, but I feel like the price is so inflated I'd be better off at Costco with lower prices and an out-of-network reimbursement. Businesses like this can charge more if their service justifies it. My experience did not. read more

The older doctor, Dr. Noda, is uncaring and harsh. Not only did I find him totally unhelpful for my own care and changed to his partner for the time being (but I am reconsidering and going to change my care to another group entirely), but today when I took my teen daughter in on an emergency basis, with unexplicable pain in her eye upon waking and the appearance that something might be in her eye, after showing NO concern at all for her, but all the concern about my health insurance, its a PPO, not the HMO they feared, they basically turned her away saying it had to be handled by ER at hospital (after letting us sit there with her in extreme pain for 20 mins or so). He wouldn't even look at her or come near her! This is a doctor? Wow! Dr. Yamamoto should reconsider with whom he is associated. I will find another doctor for myself and my family. read more

DO NOT purchase the "value" frames here. They should be labeled "cheap" because the screws fall out within a week or two of receipt. AND WHEN they say they will take a week or two to arrive, count on 3 or 4 weeks. AND WHEN they finally arrive, don't be surprised if the lenses don't fit the frames. Mine broke twice in the first 2 months. Five trips to the building and i have no glasses. read more

I have recently switched to this office because of its location. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone in the office was. My appointment was with Dr. Yamamoto, and from what I understand, he is the newest partner there. I haven't had experiences with the other doctors in that office, but I highly recommend him. He really took the time to explain to me what he was doing, which made me feel confident as a patient. I also like the new hours. Like most customers (for anything), you would want the best service possible. It's a given to expect no less when dealing with something as valuable as, well, YOUR VISION. I selected this group because of its proximity to both my work and home, its comprehensive display of eyewear (I purchased some Prada frames) and surprisingly, their hours. I was pleased to learn that they were open during my lunch hours, where many private offices are closed. Dr. Yamamoto and his staff was able to not only provide the professional services I had expected, but they were very easy-going. Dr. Yamamoto was able to comprehensively explain my vision, and answer every question I had--vision-related or not. With that said, I would recommend Dr. Yamamoto to anyone who is looking for very professional, quality eyecare without the feeling of being "a patient". 5 stars. read more

This is the first review I've ever written for anything but I'm so happy with my experience with Dr. Yamamoto I felt compelled to write this. I've worn gas permeable lenses for a very long time because of my severe astigmatism. Dr. Y suggested that I try soft lenses and I love them. I can literally say they've changed my life. I can see and I don't have to deal with pain when a speck of dirt or lint flies into my eyes anymore! He spent a great deal of time and care with me during appointment and answered all my questions in detail. I didn't feel rushed because he was at ease and I felt like he was focused on finding the best solution for MY EYES. His office team is also great. They spoke to my insurance company and somehow was able to get me a full years worth of lenses! My last doctor's office only got me a 90-day supply under the same policy.
