We had Seattle Bamboo remove bamboo placed by the previous home owner. They performed the work during late summer 2011. It was a big job and once they got into it, we did renegotiate the price. They carefully explained their original bid and compared it with the conditions they were finding. I felt they were trying to be reasonable. The bamboo was very extensive, going under my concrete walk and driveway. Even though the price was very expensive in the end, $6,500 as I recall, I think they earned every penny. I made a mental calculation of the hours they put into the job and decided the price, as high as it was, was very reasonable. The problem is removing bamboo from unwanted areas is a very arduous job and it is not cheap. Because the bamboo went under my concrete walk and driveway, I decided to have the concrete removed and repaved. It was 60 years old and in bad shape anyway. Seattle Bamboo worked with my paving contractor and ran right over after their demolition of the old concrete to dig down and get the bamboo underneath. They were excellent to work with. It is now late June 2012, and we have had a couple of shoots re-emerge. Each time, we e-mail Seattle Bamboo and they come over and take care of it. They have been careful not to damage the new landscaping put in place since the bamboo was removed. I will say Seattle Bamboo is true to their word on their guarantee. Overall, we were very satisfied with Seattle Bamboo and would highly recommend them for any project related to bamboo. ****UPDATE**** It is now August 2014, and we have not seen any more bamboo shoots emerge in the last couple of years. I hired Bruce for a bamboo removal job and deeply regret it. Once the project was started, there were things they have not seen earlier that were a problem now and more work was needed including removing concrete. (!?) I had sent Bruce written communication from the next door neighbor that they would not remove the bamboo on their side of the fence. Once the project was started, Bruce had forgotten that. I have no control of what the neighbor does so making the job complete contingent on what the neighbor does after Seattle Bamboo has started working, makes no sense. When I ask him a staight question, I don't get a straight answer. It's like talking in circle. I sent him a drawing of a yard map of where the bamboo was coming up in the yard but he forgot about that and it was all news to him at where it is growing. He said never install a barrier and then later he said "you might need a barrier here". Something is just not right. He is all over the place. The whole time I'm wondering if he a carlatan or having a health issue. But, it became clear when the balance of the $4932 job was due. He sends the second invoice to a different email address than the first (6 days after sending the first invoice for the deposit). I try to pay with the first email again but it won't work because it's been paid. When it takes me three days (the weekend) to realize that he has sent the invoice to a different email address he has already threatened to call his attorney. I will be working with a different bamboo company from here on out and you should, too. read more

I reached out to Bruce and Simonne about a small bunch of bamboo that had been planted by the previous owners of our home. We had tried to manage it on our own for the past 18 months, but new shoots kept popping up in our yard and were starting to spread further distances - including under our fence and into common area landscaping for our neighborhood. They were able to come out to our house within a week and a half from when I first contacted Bruce, and the removal itself was done very quickly in only a couple hours. I think I understand now that Bruce just didn't want to do our Bamboo removal project in Ballard from the start. Rather than just tell us that, he could have saved us a lot of time and trouble saying so rather than ask for more pictures, never reply, then tell us he doesn't read text messages, that the phone number listed on the website isn't for business, that I'm too far down in his queue, etc, etc. We thought he'd be our go-to guy for the bamboo removal project but instead he just delayed us a couple more weeks. I'm leaving a review because of just how rude and unprofessional Bruce to us when talking. Our only guess is that he didn't want the project from the start (too big? too complicated?), and he didn't have time to answer our questions about how best to handle the project as we first hoped we could just remove enough bamboo to build a fence - otherwise we found out it would be almost $17k, which was fine but spending 3 minutes to discuss if alternatives were possible doesn't seem too much to ask for even if the answer is ultimately no. I'm glad others had a good experience, but ours definitely wasn't. I had a large, very mature bamboo that died this past Fall removed from my backyard. I called another company that also specializes in bamboo removal to give me a bid and they came in 50% higher than Bruce and Simonne at Seattle Bamboo. They guarantee their work so if the bamboo returns, they will come back to remove any stray shoots from the original job. They were delightful to work with. The job ended up being a lot more work that required heavy equipment to remove the rhizomes, but they kept to their original bid and didn't charge me a cent more. We had a serious bamboo problem. Bruce came out and gave us an estimate. Seemed like a fair price so we gave the go-ahead. 5 days of hard labor and they had all the bamboo cleared out. I watched them work for some of the time. They earn their money. Getting rid of bamboo is hard work. Bruce and Simone do the work. They aren't hiring day laborers. They are very nice people and respectful of our property. They worked around our fence, our sprinkler system, other plants etc. to disturb as little as possible. In the end, the plants had spread more than Bruce estimated. He tried to keep the bid low, and then stuck to his original estimate in spite of the extra work. We were looking at buying a house that we loved -- except for the bamboo in the front yard. We were worried that its spread was so extensive it would be hard to remove. We wanted to get a sense of how much to set aside in our offer budget for the bamboo, so I emailed Bruce and Simonne. They saved us from a nightmare. They would have come out do do a thorough written bid for $500 (to be applied to the bill if they performed the job), but they generously offered to look at photos and measurements and give me a rough idea via email for free. I sent them photos and just as we were sitting down with our realtor to write our offer, their reply email came in. It turns out they had been out to the house - recognized it from the photos -- and told me that the bamboo invasion was so extensive we were looking at many thousands of dollars to eradicate it. They did a few things in the course of our email exchanges that speak volumes about what kind of company they are. First of all, they responded to all my emails within hours if not minutes. They were professional and courteous. But most important to me -- and the reason I will recommend them to anyone I know and will use them if we ever have a bamboo problem -- is that they were transparent. Bruce and Simone are crooks. Watch out for these two con artist. They are not even close to the original Seattle Bamboo. You know the one up on North Aurora where the guy started it out of his house, my wife and I had bought a home in Issaquah and had them(the real Seattle Bamboo) do extensive work on our bamboo forest. Cody is a true professional and knowledgeable beyond most bamboo experts. My wife and I were unaware that Cody had gone out of business. We had planned on hiring him to do some installations of some clumping bamboos that we had found at a nursery in Redmond. Well once I had contacted the phone number on the website and learned that bruce in simone were running the nursery now I was kinda confused and when they came and gave me the bid for 650 dollars I was appalled. With arrogant responses to my what seemed to be to him naive questions and short temper, Bruce convinced me by his actions that he's an asshole. I will never forget that. I am surprised by the number of people in the Seattle area that claim to be EXPERTS in the bamboo arena. Pretty lame. This guy obviously didn't know anything when he basically stole the Seattle Bamboo website. It looks like he just tries to copy everything the original Seattle Bamboo did. We love bamboo and have had several varieties along the entire length of our yard for well over 25 years. But, we lost all control of it several years ago and it started spreading into all of our surrounding neighbors' yards. After many laborious days of trying to regain some sense of control over it, we realized we needed professional help. We did hours of research, spoke to several people and all lines of inquiry kept leading us back to Seattle Bamboo. As soon as Bruce and Simonne arrived to assess our yard, I knew we were in the right hands. I can't say enough about the two of them. They are knowledgeable, honest and realistic. They listened to our goals and ideas and it was decided the most efficient way to deal with our yard was to remove the entire grove and replant. Given the unbelievable enormity of the project, I presumed they would return with a large crew of strong guys to excavate the bamboo. But no.... it was just the two of them and all I can say is, wow... total badasses! We have never seen 2 people work so hard and methodically as Bruce and Simonne. They were careful and respectful of the surrounding plant life and also communicated regularly with our neighbor who was most impacted by the removal process. She was very pleased by their work. Although they could not do our bamboo installation due to overly rocky soil, they gave lots of invaluable information and advice, patiently answering my many questions, and helping us come up with a basic plan. They also gave detailed information on bamboo care and maintenance for the future and invited us to check back with them at anytime if we have any questions or concerns. While removing the bamboo, they set aside the healthiest specimens, cut into manageably sized clumps for replanting. We had a big grove of bamboo in our backyard that was there when we bought the house last year. We decided it was time to get rid of it when it started running all over the yard. Seattle Bamboo was the second quote we got to remove the stuff and not only were they quite a bit lower than the first quote they were also way more informative about the process. Bruce and Simonne, the owners, showed up the next two days and hammered the job out...they take all the bamboo up to Woodland Park Zoo for the elephants to snack on, which I think is awesome! They were even very helpful when we had to deal with the bamboo that had grown into our neighbor's yard. Bruce explained to them why it would be useful to get rid of it and even when they declined to have it professionally removed he helped us put a barrier up so it doesn't grow back into our yard. We purchased our house 1 year ago and had a huge amount of bamboo in our back yard. We had no idea how invasive and awful this plant is. We thought we would just cut it down and that's it. Well, we were wrong. After several attempts to kill our bamboo lane (we had A LOT OF BAMBOO all over our fence and the entire back yard), all our attempts failed as bamboo returned. We finally hired Seattle Bamboo, and Bruce with his team did a wonderful job removing ALL of it (we had a lot as we paid over $20,000 for our job). But let me tell you, the way Bruce and his team removed our bamboo was very labour intensive as they traced every rhizome all over our yard and removed every single one of it. This is the ONLY effective way to remove your bamboo forever, and we know it now. It's been a year and our yard is completely bamboo free.
