We live in the Bridal Trails area of Bellevue and needed quite a bit of tree trimming this year. We found Eric through the Internet and were impressed by many of the reviews - so we called him for a consult and bid. We admit - when Eric first arrived we were pretty sure we woud continue looking for another arborist. He is unique, to say the least. But, he engaged us in a discussion of what we wanted and seemed to know what he was talking about. It didn't take long for us to realize that he would probably live up to the reviews. Eric's tree climber - Armon - showed up at our home at 8:00 in the morning, already knew what had to be done and was in the trees by 8:15. He was nothing short of incredible. He took pride in his work and offered suggestions based on his years as a certified arborist. Later, he scuplted two Japanese Lace Maples and they have never looked more beautiful. The balance of Eric's team and Eric arrived shortly after 9:00 as he said they would. Justin, the Tree Whisperer, went to work scuplting several Japanese Maples and transformed trees that were already beautiful into works of art. He really does have a gift with trees and a personality that is super easy to work with. We asked Eric, as a condition of bid acceptance, to clean up and leave our property as if he had never been here. Despite numerous branches falling all over the place not one plant was damaged and the walkways, driveway, street and planting beds looked better after they left than before they got here. We didn't have to point out a single overlooked item or area. In summary, great job! We have referred Eric and his co-workers to several of our neighbors who stopped by during the day while the team was here and subsequntly to others following completion. Pricing? We think it was fair. We didn't secure other bids this year having done much of this same work a few years ago and generally knowing the prevailing prices. We felt comfortable enough with Eric after talking with him during the first consult that we could accept his proposal and eliminate the need for other bids. This one is an easy 5 stars. read more

Eric answered the phone when I called last week and within the hour he was gazing up at a tree that I was positive was dead, a danger to my next door neighbors and ugly, even. Although I hate to lose a tree, I was convinced this tree had to go. Eric took a look and begged me NOT TO CUT DOWN the tree! Right then he then climbed up in the tree, broke off the biggest and ugliest dead branches and suggested that with a good trim, it would be a spectacularly beautiful tree. He did tell me that the tree was not a present danger but that they could make it LOOK beautiful again. I felt that he gave me an honest assessment of the situation and it was the opposite of a high pressure sales pitch His price was much less than the cost of removing the tree and I felt it was reasonable for the scope of the work. They did the work today and the tree looks awesome; their clean-up impeccable. I'm guessing that Eric and his partner were the kind of little boys who drove their moms crazy with fearless tree climbing ('get DOWN from that tree, RIGHT NOW!') but they've clearly put their skills to great use now. It's also clear that they know and love trees. I will recommend their services to my closest friends and will have them back to tackle other trees in my backyard soon. read more

Erik Nye "the tree guy" is crazy. ...in a good way. Until this week, we had a big old holly tree that had grown into our rockery. I wanted very much to take it out and replace it with something friendlier. Erik was thinning a neighbor's tree when I walked by, and he asked if I needed any tree work. He looked at the holly and gave a really reasonable estimate for removing the limbs and extracting the root ball -- and then he got right to it. We both imagined he'd have to rebuild a section of the rockery. Little did either of us know, the roots had grown deep under the concrete side steps, which aren't nearly as solid as they looked. So when the root ball came out, it busted up the steps like so many building blocks. Erik was contrite, and sincerely concerned about making it right. And he did. For the next couple days, he and his crew worked hard in awful, rainy weather to reset the steps. They cleaned up well, and the steps are back in decent working order. The guy is super friendly. He's got a smile full of crooked teeth and an irrepressible sense of humor. He talks nonstop. When he says he'll do something, he delivers. read more

I found Erik through a friend's recommendation. In fact, they liked him so much that they put a review on here, but for some reason it's gone now. Anyway, what sets Erik and crew apart (besides the super low prices) is that they make a habit of throwing in little extras for free. The man just can't seem to help himself...if he sees something that needs a touchup he is going to fix it. In my case I had a neighbor's tree that had some dead/scraggly branches overhanging my yard...Erik took them down for me for free! But the really impressive thing was the work they did on my Madrona tree. That sucker was sad, pathetic, and growing all over the house and power lines. At first, I could see no option but to cut it down. However, these guys really love trees, so he talked me into saving it. He knew what he was talking about. They cut away all the problem areas and somehow kept the shape of the tree. I LOVE my tree now. Other pluses...the guys know their trees and could answer my questions about tree ages and growth rates. Clean-up was great and everybody was friendly and efficient. I first found Erik 3 or 4 years ago, when I was in the midst of a family crisis and had a flowering quince that had not remained a dwarf. It has beautiful blooms in the spring and I didn't want it destroyed. It was growing at the edge of a 4' drop off and under/through an asian pear tree. I just wanted it dug out so that I could restart it elsewhere. I called several places. Most of them didn't even want to quote this job. Erik came out with a laborer, gave me a very fair quote, and stayed on that job until the tree was out of the ground at almost 10pm that night. Although it was a painful task wrangling an 8' rootball and limbs with thorns 1.5" long, he stood by his quote and left everything completely cleaned up. Today, I have 3 dwarf quinces in large pots, thanks to his work. We've had him back several times and he has always given the best price with the most beautiful work and best clean-up around. Called Eric on Memorial Day weekend and he answered the phone personally right away. He and Eden came out two days later for a quote, and the whole team came first thing the next morning. They did a fantastic job. In about 1/2 day, for a very reasonable price, they saved a Hinoki cedar that had suffered a great deal of ice damage over the past winter, cut back a number of trees that were over the roof, climbed a large fir and removed several dead limbs, removed a stump in the back yard, cut back a number of trees that were growing over the driveway, and did an AMAZING job pruning back juniper, lilac, and rhododendron bushes. Basically the entire yard now looks like it got a fresh haircut, and all the bushes and trees they worked on are not only more manageable but also look much healthier. They did all the cleanup too - including saving me a trip to the dump by taking some old trellis panels off our hands. You can't go wrong with these guys. read more

Eric and his team were working next door last Thursday and happened to notice the dead wood at the top of our fifty foot birch trees. They stopped by to ask if we would like to hire them to remove the dead wood to prolong the life of the trees and provided a reasonable quote for the work. Since this was on our 'to do list' we decided to hire them. They worked quickly and efficiently improving the appearance and possibly saving these magnificent trees from an untimely demise. They also helped us determine that our flowering cherry tree had died, but did not pressure us to have it removed. They provided basic information, on how to prune trees, so we could do it ourselves and they removed several dead branches on our maple trees for free. Our yard is looking so much better now, the trees are smiling and so are we!! We appreciate all they did and highly recommend them as they are tree experts and have an excellent eye for detail. read more

We hired Erik to get rid of a huge Holly tree, trim branches off two large trees to allow for more light in the backyard and various other pruning in the front yard bushes. Needless to say, we were satisfied with the work. He calmed down our neighbor who complained about the chainsaw noise (before 9:00 AM, so we were in the right anyay...) and then _hand sawed_ the remaining branches to keep the peace. The crew also cleared off our roof for no extra cost while they were up there and Erik trimmed some of our smaller trees to make them more appealing. The key thing to know about Erik and his crew is that they are a band of characters--he could have his own reality show. If you want buttoned up, tie wearing contractors, look somewhere else. If you want an interesting experience along with the work done, hire Erik. For example: Erik burnt some incense to get good vibrations going in our house :). We had fun and got work done. read more

I found Erik's team on yelp and had his company bid on a tree removal, trimming three cherry trees and windsailing four firs at my house in Kenmore. His bid was about a third of what else I had received so I gave him the job. I was expecting good work due to the reviews, but I have to say that I was still amazed at not only how good a job they did, but how much got done in a single day. The tree that had to be removed was in a tricky spot between my house and the fence and they dropped it perfectly too. They also cleaned up all the debris, ground the stumps and blew my driveway. Except for the rounds they left for firewood (and the fact that the trees were much better looking) you'd never have known they had been there. I'm wishing we'd done it before now things look so much better. I'd have his team come back in a heartbeat for any other work if I needed. Definately recommend using him. read more

Erik and his crew did an amazing job on my trees that were long overdue for some TLC. They do high-quality, fast work for a very fair price. Erik is very knowledgeable about trees so the trees aren't getting chop jobs; he takes great care to bring out the beauty in each tree and to maximize their health. He also goes the extra mile, not just in terms of clean up and leaving a spotless jobsite, but pointing out things you might want to consider. I have a large tree whose roots were pushing up the concrete walkway - they were able to cut away the root (after determining it wouldn't damage the tree) and repair the concrete. That's not something I would have ever thought to ask a tree guy, but that extra mile is the service they provide. I had no idea how nice the yard could look, and I'll definitely be asking them to come back to maintain all this great work! read more

After some mix-ups (on our part) we were able to get Chris and Barney to our construction site to take down a very tall pine tree that was in the way of the work. They came on a Saturday and whipped that thing down in a few hours. They cut the wood up into rounds short enough to split for stove wood and even helped a friend load up some into his trailer. The next day Zach showed up with his crew and cleared away all the down limbs and brush. That chipper chewed up the biggest limbs they could handle in one shot, made for pretty quick work. They left the place clean enough for our construction crew to start pouring concrete the next working day. Gotta hand it to them, they get the job done quickly and for a great price. We're going to have them out next year to prune up the rest of our trees, once we get settled into the new house Thanks guys!!! read more

I had to have a curly willow removed that was invading my sewer lines. Erik, Evan and Luciana came out and offered me what I thought was a great price. And after comparing it to other estimates I thought it was best. Other estimators said that they couldn't grind the tree (which was on a steep slope) and that they could only use poison (yuck). Erik told me they COULD (and would) grind the stump down to insure the tree would not grow back. I am SO happy that I choose Erik. His team did a wonderful, efficient, clean job. Barney and Chris were there early to take care of business. I don't know how the guys did it but they got a stump grinder up the hill and took care of the entire stump several inches down. I will definitely use them again in the future when I hope to be planting some trees!! read more

So, I am part way through Erik's service and so far, every positive review on Yelp about him is dead on accurate. He came by to do an estimate - and based on these reviews, his demonstrated concern/sincerity for doing the job well and his very competitive quote, I gave him the job. Now, I thought he'd be coming back tomorrow or next week to get starterd. But no, he pulled a chainsaw from the trunk of his car (one of three he carries -- the man doesn't mess around when it comes to his profession) and started carving up the stumps from my (soon to be former) laurel hedge. A friend , who had work done by Erik and his team, told me and my husband about Erik and we called him right away. Erik showed up to our house the following day right on time. We had 6 huge pine trees in our back yard that needed to be sheard up about 25 ft. Erik gave us an incredible deal that we couldn't pass up. He charged us less than half of several other estimates we had gotten. When Erik showed up to do the work he had 3 other men with him, Bobby, Kealoa, and Derek. They got to work right away. They did an amazing job, and Erik even pulled up a tree stump, that was in my front yard, for free. I will certainly call on Erik and his team for all of my tree needs. I've used Eric for a couple of different reasons. First off during the wind storms we ended up with a tree hanging from our yard ove newport way. It was looking like it was going to go any day, right into the street and power lines. We called Eric, he was out first thing next morning and had the whole old growth GIGANTIC tree, down, branched, chopped, and stacked ready to season for firewood in half a day. Unbelievable work Ethic and fantastic guy. Second, my cat got stuck in a tree about 25 feet up, no way down. I called him up, and he was at our house in an hour, and got my cat down in about 15 mins. He took the time to drop everything and come out to save an animal. He is an all-time guy. Would use him for anything. read more
