Five stars, no question. I've lived in this house in Redmond for 25 years and have hired more tree companies than I can count to manage the 30+ large trees on my property. Eastside Tree Works is, by a wide margin, the best of all of them. The experience started before they even did any work. The salesman who came out for the estimate showed up with an iPad, walked the entire property with me, took photos and video of each tree, tagged the ones we discussed, and had a detailed estimate ready before he left. He clearly knew what he was talking about and took real time to talk through what would work best for the trees and the house, not just push a generic package. When he found out I was a military veteran, he knocked a nice discount off the price without me even asking. The crew that came to do the work was just as impressive. A full team showed up with a large bucket lift and worked through limbing up several big Douglas firs, doing conifer cleaning, and taking down two medium-sized trees. They moved like a team that's worked together for years, communicated constantly, and checked in with me more than once while they were up in the trees to make sure they were limbing to the height I wanted rather than just guessing. When I mentioned my chainsaw had been giving me trouble, they took the time to fix it on the spot. What really sealed it was the cleanup. After 25 years of tree work at this house, I've never had a crew leave the property looking better than when they found it, but that's exactly what happened here. Under two years ago (fall of 2024), we contacted three tree services companies to get quotes to top-off three arborvitae hedges and crown-reduce/windsail/shape two trees. We opted to split the work between two companies who replied. Eastside Tree Works is one of the two companies; they were hired to crown-reduce/windsail/shape a flowering plum and a katsura tree. I waited to write the review to see how the trees recover and regrow. The quoting and initial process was very smooth and professional. Their response is fast for both the initial meet-up and providing the quote. Everything was done on their iPad, and quotes sent soon after. The task was also completed quickly. The task isn't significant, and they readily came and finished. The clean-up details are excellent. When done, I observed the flowering plum looked shapely but the katsura looked like a bad haircut. They agreed to come out and trim a stray branch that stuck out compared to the rest of the katsura crown. The katsura never regained a normal tree crown shape. Eastside Tree Works did an outstanding job with both tree pruning and tree removal on my property, including handling trees that required a city permit. I really appreciated how they owned the entire end-to-end process, including coordinating directly with the city on the permit. That made everything much easier for me. I have a very large thundercloud cherry that the city had butchered to clear the tree away from the wires. It looked very odd, they thinned it, shaped it and made it look better. I also asked them to trim up 2 ornamental maples, which they did carefully and with beautiful results, taking out dead wood, removing a little bit of the canopy. I also asked them to remove a 15' tall vine maple that was shading my vegetable garden. Lastly they trimmed back from our house 3 Akibono cherry trees that were actually touching the house in places. The guys were thoughtful when making the cuts, stepping back to review the tree before proceeding with the next cut. The clean up was excellent. I had Eastside Tree Works remove a very large, dead snag near my driveway. They couldn't use their bucket truck, so they devised a way to scale an adjacent (live) tree and cut the snag in sections. We hired this company to do a large job on our property consisting of pruning and cleaning up 6 large evergreens (100+) and several ornamentals including a Kousa Dogwood, Vibernum, Japanese Pear and Maple and 2 really sad looking Mountain Ash trees. All work was done in accordance with work order and led by Sam including crew members Jacob, Jasper, Kent, John, Jordy and Nick. All very skilled with attention to detail and great to work with. We have used Eastside Tree Works twice in the last year. Once they ground out a large tree stump and then this week they took out a dead over six foot bush with a thick trunk and ground out the stump too. Both times they came and marked the utility lines etc. They showed up on time and never even knocked on the door! Not a bit of debris left. If needed we will use them again. They were very safe and did not damage any of the flowers or plants on the ground. Eastside tree works has great customer service! I contacted Jeff who was so knowledgeable and explained the process on how removing 7 trees in my community would work. The only thing this company does not do is "root barriers" and "replanting" the trees. While we did not use Jeff for tree removal services (only reason why is they do not replant trees) he was able to come out to my property twice and answered all our questions! I'm really sad to give just two stars in my review for Eastside Tree Works, as I would have easily given them five stars, but alas.. I didn't feel like I got the service that I paid for. A few months ago, we had a couple of branches fall due to a storm from a large fir tree we have on our property. We called Eastside Tree Works, and hired them to take down a branch that was hanging from the tree and to thin out branches so that we wouldn't have branches falling due to storms in the future. The crew that came out was EXCELLENT. They were very courteous and professional, making sure to clean up everything, and left my driveway free of any debris. I was assured that we shouldn't have any issues with falling branches for a good few years. I tipped the crew, extremely satisfied with the service we received. Fast forward a few months, we had another storm, and a branch fell off. We were disappointed and dismayed, to say the least, that this happened again just a few months after we got our tree serviced. It's obviously a huge hazard -- what if one of the kids (ours or our neighbor's) had been underneath? I reached out to Eastside Tree Works, hoping they'd have some sort of warranty or after service, but was told that there wasn't anything they would do. Their (paraphrased) response of "well, if we hadn't come out, you could have had 5-6 branches fall instead" didn't sit well with me either (you can imagine that a response with a hypothetical like this could be applied for anything! For example, you might take your car in to get a problem fixed, have that same problem occur again a few months later, and get told that "well, your car might have exploded if we hadn't taken a look!"). I'm disappointed it came to this. This might be standard behavior from a tree company, given their (otherwise) professionalism and the great reviews on Yelp. But I feel the job wasn't completed; I'd have given just one star, but the crew really was so good that I'm adding another star. read more

The trees were 100 feet tall and too close to our home to drop. In three days they removed all the trees by crane, chipped, hauled left over logs that were to big to grind. Standard run of the mill cost for manual stump grinding (not cheap) - this company was the only one in the industry who I found to be reliable, honest, and most reassuringly, organized! At some point one just gets fed up with the waste of time and effort dealing with less than professional businesses - this place is every bit professional. Look no further if you want to work with adults who know how to run a business and follow through with projects. They removed a tree and they charged us $15,000. I then happened to discovered that me, my children, my house, and the entire removal processes was aired on a one hour YouTube episode. I happened to discover it because I saw an ad on social media that had an image of my yard and recognized it. All of this was done without my permission or awareness. I'm afraid that I paid for the camera crew and the unapproved costs of putting us on the internet. They apparently have a YouTube show where 20,000+ followers have viewed my children and I at our home. I don't know what to do about this as I am disturbed by the sneaky way they went about this. The estimator seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. The crew removed the top portion of the tree and covered the roof with a tarp to prevent water damage. This review is way overdue. I sort of blindly chose Eastside Tree Works after finding them on Yelp and reading their reviews. I had a project that I had been wanting to be done for YEARS, it was an aggravating situation with a neighbor. Anyway, Jeff promptly came out, assessed the situation, told me what I legally could and could not do (regarding trimming someone else's trees that were hanging into my yard) and was able to give me an estimate on the spot. It was a decent amount of money but I was prepared for that and thought it was fair. I was also given two(!) minor discounts, one of them was for paying cash, which I thought was very nice of them. What I loved about Eastside Tree Works is that they are super professional, they know what they're doing, they're efficient and their communication is spot on. Amanda was very helpful over the phone as well. When they day came (what I've been waiting for for literally over a decade) Jordan and another young man (forgot his name...) came out in the morning and got the job done is less than two hours. They were very personable and made sure they knew exactly what I wanted before and after. Also, they cleaned up everything, they didn't leave a single branch or trimming behind. They even put the branches in a wood chipper right on my driveway! I thought that was neat. Is it obvious I've never had tree work done? Because this job was so important to me and I've been wanting these trees trimmed for so long, I was very meticulous about it. Long story short: there were just a few areas that I wanted trimmed back a bit more (my fault, not theirs) which I expressed to them a couple days later. These guys cut down 4 tall fir trees in my back yard and a couple juniper bushes. They work very fast and the crew does a good job of communicating with you what they are doing. The tree's make a big mess so to critique their cleaning wouldn't be fair. Although they did go on top of my roof and my neighbor's roof to blow off the sawdust. They did stump grinding a couple of weeks later. This is what makes the big mess. Be prepared for a crazy amount of bugs, which come out of the wood. I had two minor issues. The first is that when they roped the branches down they did hit my deck once and destroyed some plants and a basket hanger. The second is that one of the trees they let fall I thought was too big and ended up leaving a huge dent in my lawn, that I still have. Overall Matt does a good job on the quote of spelling everything out for you. They were the cheapest and seemed the most knowledgeable as well of the the three quotes that I got. I don't have anymore trees on my property but I did recommend them to two of my neighbors. Let them know you heard about them in the Seattle Times, you get a 10% discount! read more

The project manager/estimator Jeff was professional, courteous, knowledgeable and arrived promptly for the consult. Jeff offered some much-needed advice and had a bid to me within 15 minutes of arriving at my residence. The service was scheduled for 2 business days later. The crew worked hard and cleaned up after themselves, even doing a little extra raking for me. They were also willing to toss a bunch of other yard waste like bamboo I had cut down previously, into their wood chipper at no additional cost. The General Manager Curtis was also professional and responsive when I had a question the day before the service was set to begin. Even though my project was pretty small and I had never worked with them before, they still treated me like a top customer and went above-and-beyond. In the middle of a clear summer morning, a gigantic tree fell from a city green belt onto my house. Eastside arrived within an hour and worked all day to hoist the tree off the house. The next day, they returned to chop it up and chip it. They also began a dialog with the city which resulted in the removal of other compromised, unsafe trees. I talked to the owner, who sent the arborist. I spent an hour taking to the arborist. I was told I'll be sent a quote. After multiple follow-ups and no quote, the security said that he had forgotten everything and needed to come again. Sigh..... So I tried to schedule another time. After a few email exchanges, the arborist went silent. Eventually when I asked, after waiting for a few weeks, I was told they are "not interested" in the type of work.
