I hired Eastside Tree works to remove a tree stump from the side of my house. I had cut a small tree and tried to dig out the stump, but the stump was actually much bigger/deeper than I thought. Eastside was one of the few businesses that offered to do this work for me and their pricing was more than fair. Terry showed up on time, and I was totally amazed how he was able to get the big stump grinder through the door fence as there was no room for mistakes (we're talking millimeters!) and he did amazingly and got the big machine in/out. I already posted this review on their own webpage several years ago, but now that I have lived through the Christmas 2022 storm, I appreciate even more what this company did for me. I am so happy to be using the firewood from the tree that they serviced for me to keep my house warm, as opposed to having it smash into my house, which is undoubtedly what would have happened last Christmas if they had not done their expert work. This company did a fantastic, almost unbelievably good job removing a portion of a large cedar tree that was leaning toward my house and had a rotting junction in the middle. Their estimator was obviously a highly educated and experienced arborist and immediately picked up on what I wanted and was completely candid as to how possible it was (other tree services said it couldn't be done or proposed solutions that I deemed unsatisfactory - and in one case, charged me for giving me their observations even though they didn't do any actual tree work). Their logistics staff always responded promptly and professionally to communications. When it came down to doing the work, the crew showed up promptly as scheduled, was totally professional, used what appeared to be state of the art equipment, worked safely and efficiently, followed my instructions to a T and left virtually no mess. I was amazed and extremely pleased. The job wasn't easy or cheap, but I got what I paid for. The tree is still alive and standing and providing beauty and shade to my property. Dan, a Certified Arborist, came out today to discuss my desire to get some branches from my neighbor's trees trimmed back to my fence to protect my roof and property. A branch recently poked a hole in my roof and another 3 incher fell between my home and our shared fence. Dan said I was doing a good job of keeping the lower branches trimmed back so they weren't close to the roof or house. He said there really wasn't much to be gained by having them trim more branches back. He said the problem is you don't know which are going to fall, and I have some pretty big ones high up. He felt good about the health of the neighbor's trees. I really appreciated him "talking himself out of a job" this time. I will definitely keep his card for future work. read more

UPDATE: At my request, Matt (the owner) came out with Chris to discuss the situation detailed in my previous review. I wanted to avoid a he-said-she-said situation with the work crew. While I got the slightest hint of condescension from both of them regarding the situation, they explained their approach and the way the crew is instructed to work. At minimum, as a customer, I'm better informed, and I will own responsibility for being more clear about what I want to end up with. - As far as what was run across the loan, the theory is that branches may have been drug across to get to my driveway so they can chip off the street for safety reasons. I can't confirm or deny, and ultimately it's moot. - Matt himself stayed behind - in flip-flops no less - to rake up the debris left behind by the team. - We never came to a conclusion on the mysterious voicemail except that I should have called back. Problem is, I don't call back unless it's a company name or a personal name I recognize on the other line. Most consumers I know are the same in this day and age of spam. Their goal is to preserve the health of the tree, regardless of what you want done, otherwise they expect you'll cut it down. In some cases you aren't at liberty to cut the tree down but still don't want it dominating your lawn getting sun or rain. In these cases, do whatever you can to clarify EXACTLY what you want done so there are no assumptions on either side. read more

I needed a stump removed asap that my tractor couldn't pull out. Curtis came the next morning and got it out with a big 90hp loader. Everyone else I called either didn't have the machinery for the job or didn't get back to me until days later. They were professional, responsive, and fairly priced. Hired them to remove three tress (including one 60'+ Cedar) and trim several others. Bid process was great. Very thorough; included a Sales Rep (Ron) who is also a certified Arborist. He arrived on-time, spent quality time walking through the yard answering questions and giving advice (we drilled him) on not just cut, but function. Ron knows his trees. The estimate included him tagging the trees, pictures, a detailed description of the work, and a typed estimate. We got two other bids; and they were all in the same ball-park for costs. I read some of the older reviews which included some negativity, and decided to go with these folks anyways based on the preparation, success a neighbor had just had with them, and their clear desire to make me happy (e.g. they don't change you until you confirm you are 100% satisfied with the work). The team showed up on time on the date committed. They were nice, fast, clean, and good. Although I would have preferred trunk removal/ stump grinding be done the same day in my case, they were done in a second stage a week later, and also done quick and cleanly I would definitely recommend this company; and hire them again myself! read more

When a tree falls it's not a good day, and when that tree is on your house and power lines, it can quickly become a really bad day. Four days ago this was me - a large tree pushed over by the wind put my house at risk of fire as the live powerline was ripped from the masthead on my roof. I contacted Eastside Tree Works and the owner himself came to my home to look at the damage and provide an estimate. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything while assuring me he could remove the tree without causing any additional damage. This was critical to me since I had a Koi pond next to my home and directly below part of the tree. The tree removal happened in two stages - the first stage removed the tree from the home and the powerlines so that I did not have to worry about additional damage (the power lines where already fraying and wouldn't last long). His crew was amazing to watch - they worked so fast and knew exactly where to cut to remove the large section of the tree without causing any additional damage. Due to the wind storm the demand for crews was high - yet his crew arrived at my home just as the sun was setting and worked into the dark doing their craft. By the end of their visit my home was much safer and absolutely no additional damage was done - not a single roof tile was hurt from their work! The second stage involved removing the bottom of the tree, clearing up other tree branches so that new power lines could be ran to my home, and removing all the branches, leaving behind plenty of firewood that I could use in my chimneys. Watching the crew complete the additional work was just as amazing - my yard was a disaster and they turned it into something normal in no time. I worked with them to also bill my homeowners insurance directly for the parts it covered - they easily separated out the parts I was responsible for. What started out as a horrific event was made so much easier by using Eastside Tree Works. I would encourage anyone needing work done, emergency or not, to strongly consider them. read more

I needed dead wood taken out and for the trees to be thinned out so that I can get more sunlight to come in. Today, we had two 120 ft. Douglas firs removed from our front yard by Eastside Tree Works. (They were deader than dead.) They had 4 people here, 2-certified arborists plus two other workers. The trees were surrounded by bushes and other small trees. Not a branch was broken on these bushes and trees. They also trimmed a number of other trees. These guys are really good at what they are doing. We have a huge spruce that is very close to the house. They brought in a crane and cut the spruce down into pieces within hours. Afterwards, they swept away all the debris away and left a few well cut wood chunks in the front yard. In other words, they did a really thorough job of cutting a challenging tree. Amanda was my main point of contact and she was great, she set up the appointments and called after the job was complete to make sure I was happy with the work and let me know my invoice would arrive shortly. Everyone was efficient and friendly, from Amanda taking my initial call, to Matt doing the estimate, Jeff handling the permit process, Curtis coordinating the crew and of course the actual guys of the crew doing to cutting and clean up. Had them come out during the last storm that passed through. I had lost several branches on my recently-purchased home, but it got me thinking about how healthy or stable two doug firs were in my front yard. Excellent response time - I was quickly setup with an appointment time that worked for me, was greeted by a very knowledgeable rep, who thoroughly broke down the condition and some options for keeping both the two "scary" firs in close proximity to my home healthy and safe, as well as some excellent suggestions for light on some larger maples in my backyard. The rep (to my surprise) was able to put together an extremely professional estimate right there on the spot (apparently during our walk through and discussions, everything was being logged) using a tablet - which included marked-pictures for some pruning options. I had received other estimates in the past - and I understand that tree work can be expensive, given the danger and amount/weight of material that needs to be moved through confined spaces. Their estimate was right on par with others I received, and I had the added piece-of-mind in having a legitimate, insured/bonded/LnI covered company on my property. Crews were extremely efficient and really amazing to watch. They took care of removing some dead wood and opening up light on my maples, and did an amazing job removing a large nearly-dead Fir that was tearing up my entry-sidewalk. It's a long story but about five years ago I left a two star review in error. I realized my error and I called Matt Rengo the owner and apologized. I also scheduled the removal of a sick birch tree in front of our house. Matt showed up and quoted a price that was fair and the job was scheduled. Two friendly and efficient guys showed up right on time and the tree was dispatched in a very professional and efficient manner! We were impressed by their skills and how they cleaned up when the job was finished. Now we await the grinding of the stump in a week or so and I'm confident that will be done in the same manner! I had a dead ornamental tree in my front yard. After reading several reviews (it appeared that almost 100% loved the service, and one doubled his review from one star to two stars after an update following a subsequent visit, I decided to use this company. Ron Paquette, a certified arborist, reviewed the original project, and then my curiosity additions. We had the original project planned (remove a dead tree), stump grind, and trim some trees to bring them back into CC&R compliance, as well as general trimming for appearance. Ron directed the crew, as well as personally addressing some other issues that I had. They arrived on time, and took a lot of care in not damaging any other landscaping. The clean up was approved by my wife, as well as the stump grinding a week later. Would I recommend this company? a wholehearted yes. My wife is a real estate agent and has been given consideration for all of her referrals. Our usual landscaper recommended finding a dedicated tree service, as he did not have the equipment, nor the expertise that would give us any advantage. We (including my wife) are extremely happy with the work done (maintaining the canopy while allowing more light). I am very impressed with the personal contact to make sure that we were satisfied with the timeliness, service, and concern about satisfaction of the service. I am also impressed that they do not bill us until they knew whether we were satisfied. I had another ornamental tree planted a month later in the same space, and the installers (Big Tree Supply, another 5 star company) had no problem, given their concerns about adequate conditions after removing a previous dead tree (mostly about the stump grinding). I hired Eastside Tree Works last fall 2020 to remove two trees, a large shrub and trim a 3rd tree. They were to leave the trunks cut in sections for fire wood. I live in Southern California and the rental house is in Redmond, WA. Though they knew I was in California and would not be able to personally inspect and accept the work prior to paying the invoice they would not provide post photos of the work - as most contractors do to justify their services - refused. I was basically told that I was expected to have asked them for photos in advance before the work and I should then bother tenants under separate property management to provide photos. They grudgingly went by and took some photos but missed photos of the large shrub that was an added charge to the original quote. They refused to provide complete photos of work... I refused to pay the invoice. This stale mate when on until I received a collection notice then chronic harassment from a law firm demanding payment with interest. I paid the invoice w/o the final photos of the completed service not wanting an unnecessary legal problem and then, even after paying the invoice in full, I did not promptly receive a paid in full from them. I literally had to plea to the law firm to obtain a receipt from them which they did. If you live locally and can inspect their work then this entry doesn't apply to you. If you do not live at the property and are thinking of hiring this vendor make sure to demand post service photos taken. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced from any home services vendor and do not recommend this vendor's service. Most honest contractors will proactively provide visual documentation of their services without having to ask or demand especially when they know the customer cannot locally inspect the at property work. Eastside Tree Works not only refused to do so - knowing I live out of state from the start - but hired a law firm to collect without providing post photos of their services even when asked. Dan came out to give us an assessment about the health of an old cedar we have next to our home. I was concerned that he wouldn't be "straight" and would try to upsell services. However, I really wanted an experienced arborist to let me know why parts of my tree appear to be dying. Dan checked our tree out thoroughly and gave us his opinion that the tree is stressed but will most likely bounce back over the next several months. He then went on to look at a number of other trees on our property -- all at no charge to us -- and without trying to sell us any services. I have complete confidence in Dan and Eastside Tree Works. They came to take care of our landscape needs and didn't attempt to profit off of our ignorance. I will not hesitate to use them in the future! read more

Excellent service. We went for the free tree trimming removal estimate just to see what we'd be looking at. Dan was amazing took the time to review all the trees on our property, the stumps we'd liked removed, and judgement on health of certain trees in question. Provided a detail estimate and boom, we decided to move forward. The crew DJ, Devin, and Nicholas were amazing! Tackling 3 tree removals and 2 trees trimmings on a super hot day. I can't say enough about what an excellent company this is. When the salesman was held up at an appointment the owner, Matt Rengo, came out to assess the work we needed. We have 60 year old lilacs and they trimmed, pruned, and revived them beautifully. We lost one during the snow and worried about what would be left. The crew arrived on time and went straight to work. Though ours was probably a small job for them but we had two large trucks and an eight person crew. Everything in the yard was rakes and left better than when they arrived. Friendly and polite crew walked us through the work to be sure we were satisfied.
