Did a great job of grinding 32 tree stumps in our yard. Nothing left of the stumps and they cleaned up what was left.

Matt and his team have done work for us twice now over the last two years. He has taken down several very large Doug Firs that had rot and were within striking distance of our home, and has also done some wind-sailing of several trees in order to decrease the chance they come down during a big storm. I have four diseased trees in my yard so I called Eastside Tree Works for an estimate. I needed one to be removed right away and possibly three more at a later date. I was surprised to be told that the cost to remove one tree would be the same as removing four trees so I might as well not bother if I only need one tree removed...??? Wow. They knew before they came out that I was a residential, single-family home, not a commercial property. If they cannot remove one tree at a reasonable rate, they should not be offering their services to residential customers. Even though the overall estimate was high and I was told "there was no way they could fit me in any time soon" because of a bigger job they were doing, Chris said he would email me an estimate right away so I can decide later. I gave him my email address, but it has been two days and I have yet to receive an estimate. I most certainly will not be following up or considering Eastside Tree Works as they made it clear that they do not want my business. I also should add that Chris claimed to be a certified arborist and the person who scheduled the estimate used that title several times, which would lead one to believe that this person would be knowledgeable about diseased trees. Chris could not tell me anything about the health of my trees without a "soil test and other testing." When I asked him if they provided that service he said no. Why on earth are they making a big deal of this guy being a "Certified Arborist" if he can't tell me a thing about what is wrong with my trees??? We had a 75ft+ Doug Fir die that needed to be removed. It was about 10 feet from our street power line. Matt Rengo (owner) came out within 3 days of my calling the office to give me an estimate. I had questions about deadwood removal and windsailing a few others. We walked my whole property explaining as we went and I pointed out the ones that concerned me. He recommended not doing one I had thought about, and added 2 others that he saw as most concerning. We did 6 total. This was a very helpful. He wrote up the contract on site and the pricing was right in line with others. He gave me the option to add 2 other windsails that weren't a big concern but would be needed in 3-5 years at about 30% discount, to be decide day of. I was in no hurry to get the work done, so he left with a plan to get us in the schedule in about 2 weeks. The next day he called and had a canceled job, and so they were available the following day (5 days after my 1st call to the office) so we booked it. On that day, his crew showed up on time and were very professional. They had a high power line certified arborist in site to monitor the work around the power line--no problems. We decided to add the 2 additional trees, but they were still done by mid afternoon. They did a good job cleaning up all the timber. I thought it was odd that they wanted to charge to haul away the firewood (that could be sold at a profit for them), but that appears to be industry standard. ***edit*** After my review, I got an email explaining the cost of removing the firewood. It was a well written, not whiny, email explaining how seasoning, marking, and delivery of firewood isn't as profitable as you would think given the amount of labor and hauling equipment involved. Would recommend, and have, to friends and neighbors. read more

We hired them to remove about a dozen a half of mid-grown pine trees from our property, they came in with a chipper and in less than half of the time they estimated the work was completed. The left the place exactly as we expected. Everything from the moment of the engagement to the moment of the invoicing and payment has worked out just as expected. We had two appointment times set, one for bid date and time ( they didn't show) finally we had to call twice and request rhey came Saturday...they did, made bid and time for the work to be done... No one showed, numerous calls and reschedule, didn't show again. We cancelled the job and told them we would go elsewhere . Ugh! read more

I had a clump of 4 Maples near my home, the largest of which was rotted and threatening to fall on my neighbors house. I contracted ETW to take out the rotted trunk entirely and prune the rest of the trunks. The estimate for the rotted trunk was about $2000 and the pruning was about $800. During the estimate, the ETW guy pointed out several overlapping branches that would be pruned. After they finished taking down the large rotted trunk (which they did well) I learned that they never changed their rope rigging to prune any of the other trunks. They pruned a couple branches from the same rope location they used for the main trunk. And from that location, they could only reach perhaps 20% of of the cluster of trunks and branches. I called them on it and they said the pruning was done to ISO standards and that they were experts, implying I wasn't (i'm not). I asked them how you can possibly prune to ISO standards when you cannot reach 80% of the main branches? Nor did they prune several overlapping branches the estimator pointed out when he was first on site. I gave them a chance to make me (the customer) happy, even mentioning that I would write a review (good or bad) online when they were finished. If they would have come back to fix their mistake, I would give them 4 stars for integrity. Instead they took the opportunity to reiterate that I wasn't the expert. I paid $2800 plus tax for two guys working for at most 6 hours with ropes and chainsaw. That's steep. read more

I just had a tree removed by Eastside Tree Works. The estimate originally included trees that we need to watch, but we decided to have only one tree taken down. It was a dangerous tree, but the estimate was much better than another one I received. The next day, the crew arrived, rigged into a nearby tree, and took it down safely within an hour. They quickly shredded the parts and cleaned up any debris left behind, even blowing the walks and raking the lawn. They told me they are available at all hours for emergencies. Eastside Tree Works did a fantastic job helping us with tree trimming and the removal of a dead fir tree in our front yard, including stump grinding. Our neighborhood HOA recommended them to us. They were very professional, communicative and we were happy with the results. These guys are clearly geared for larger jobs but they didn't minimize the quality of the service they delivered despite our job being a smaller one. We got several quotes and they were right in line, but they included trimming the water sprouts on our maple tree which was something the other quotes didn't include. We live in a tight neighborhood and were a bit worried about how that much work upfront would impact neighbors with the machinery, but they did a great job in keeping driveways clear and were in and out. Eastside Tree Works responded to a tree that fell onto my roof last wind storm. I had a HUGE tree fall from my neighbors property onto & into my roof at 3 am on a Sunday morning. I was frantic & thought that I would be leaving a message for someone to get back to me in the normal morning hours. To my surprise they answered their phone and they were at my house within the hour. The gentleman that showed was very professional and extremely helpful. He assured me that they would get the tree off my roof and get the hole covered to prevent more water from seeping in. Shortly after agreeing to have the work done the crew appeared & saved the day! I could not believe how fast & efficient they were! They removed the tree & covered my roof & came out a few days later to finish cleaning up. It's unfortunate I have to downgrade my first review. I had them thin and prune some trees a couple of months ago. I was pleased with their work and their professional attitude at the time. One of the things they suggested was to "cable" our large cedar tree for safety. They even explained the procedure to me. A couple of weeks after they did the work, I stood under the tree lookiing for the cable and I couldn't find one. My wife and neighbor couldn't see one either. We have called and left several messages that have all been ignored at this point. One person did say that they had "no record" of our job. The person who was susposted to call back has not responded at this point. read more

I hired Eastside Tree Works to removing two dying trees from my property. When removing a tree, they carelessly damaged a lamp post on the property, leaving it bent and nonfunctional. In addition, they did not clean up the messes made for each tree until multiple phone calls were made and people were sent out on two separate occasions. After discussing this experience with them, they sent a third party contractor to assess and potentially fix the lamp. Unfortunately, this resulted in him doing further damage then attempting to charge $175 to fix the mistake he had made. When I refused, he abandoned the work, leaving exposed wiring at multiple locations on the property, and gave incorrect information to tree company in an attempt to free them from any wrong-doing. In the end the quality was below my expectations and resulted in a ton of lost time and damage to my home that they will not fix. UPDATE: After leaving my feedback, the owner reached out to me in hopes of rectifying the experience I had. I appreciate his level of honesty and genuine interest in ensuring that his company had done their due diligence to reach a proper outcome. We came an agreement in order to attempt to return of the damaged property to the condition it was prior to the accident. I do believe my experience probably does not reflect what many other costumers have seen. read more

Being the best in their industry is clearly is their number one priority! From my initial contact, throughout our project to the follow up from the office, the team was professional, courteous, communicative, honest and took care of our property as if it were their own. We had a large project that consisted of a 146' douglas fir tree that was extremely close to our fence, 3 trees to clean up, 14 trees wrapped up in PSE poles and 3 additional small leaning trees. The team took care and caution throughout their work. When it came time to remove the 146' fir, they cared so much that they called their office and recommended using the crane to ensure nothing was damaged. They went above and beyond with ensuring all our questions were answered as well as communicated every step of the way! He showed us current liability insurance and explained the importance of it. It is thereto protect the home owner. Never again would I hire a company without seeing a current certificate. They called us 24 hours before and sent us a email as promise. The foreman came to the door as promise. They completed the job and did a great clean up as promise. The team at Eastside Tree Works is awesome. Our property was in need of pruning, trimming and plain ol' cutting down. This team came prepared to do it all flawlessly. I leveraged Yelp to send out the requests for quotes. The Eastside team responded same day and we scheduled the appointment for a couple of days out. Matt, the owner, arrived on time and spent over an hour with me walking the property. He is technology savvy, using his iPad to take photos and generate a very fair proposal. His crew was available the next day, so we locked in the date and moved forward. Upon arriving on time the following day, the crew walked the property with me reviewing all of the proposed work. They understood the task at hand and delivered quickly. Before leaving, they reviewed everything with me to ensure I was satisfied. As I elected to have the rounds picked up and the stumps ground, those were scheduled for a few days later. Everyone showed up on the day they were scheduled and no issues were encountered. Matt Rengo, owner, arrived on time to do an estimate. I do my own yard work and am very particular when it comes to the things I can't do - it's difficult to impossible to recover from a bad pruning job so it is important to ensure that doesn't happen. I will not let just anyone touch my trees! Matt listened carefully to what I wanted done and made excellent suggestions. In fact pulled out a saw and took off some branches on a large cedar we were discussing - carefully looking at each one and making sure I approved before cutting. It was a good investment of his time as I was really pleased with the way that went! On the morning the work was done the crew of 4 arrived precisely on time to do the work and took extreme care with all they did. The crew was cordial and engaged with my super-detailed preferences about pruning. I was grateful to be able to make decisions and get exactly the results I wanted. It was a big job - 5 hours removing two trees, clearing deadwood from two tall pines, pruning two tree-sized rhodies and two Japanese maples - and when they left my trees looked great. They did a good job of cleaning up. If you need trees removed or pruned and if you are very picky, hire Eastside Tree Works. If you aren't very picky hire them anyway and they will make your property look great for you. Working with this company was one of the more bizarre experiences we've had with home services/contractors. My first communication with them was fine. The arborist who came out to give us an estimate was great - very knowledgeable, took his time explaining tree care, pointing out things to look for. He gave us an estimate right away which was very reasonable, so we agreed to have the work done before he'd even left. After that, things went downhill quickly. First, the company refuses to give you any warning as to when the crew will actually show up to do the work. I had to call several times to pin them down on when the crew would come. They kept saying that we didn't need to be home for the work to be done, but the thought of having people come by and just start cutting made us too nervous. Every time I called the office, the person I talked to seemed to have no idea what was going on - I think she had to tell me she'd call me back every time I called. The crew just showed up one day, but thankfully someone was home to at least talk to a couple of the guys. The crew didn't warn us that they would want to get in our neighbor's yard to do the work from his side. We ran over to get permission from the neighbor so everything seemed to go as planned. Unfortunately when we returned that evening, the crew had only done 3/4 the work they were supposed to do. When I called the company to ask when the crew was coming back to finish the job, the woman answering the phones once again couldn't help. She said she'd call me back. Instead of her calling me back, the owner of the company called me back. He proceeded to tell me that he thought the bid their arborist gave us was too low and was a really good deal - too good of a deal, in fact. So good of a deal, he didn't think it was really worth it for one of his crews to come out and finish the job! While the company's name is "Eastside" Tree Works - they're actually located in Renton and think that coming up to Bellevue (i.e. the Eastside) is really too far to come out multiple times to finish a job they should've finished the first time. After talking with the owner several times, he agreed that he would send a crew to our house to finish the job once they were in the neighborhood for another job to make the trip "cost effective" for the company. Weeks went by and the job was never finished. After several phone calls, the crew finally showed up again, and they tell us that they'd been to the house several times before, but the neighbor had turned them away. So instead of the owner calling us and letting us know, they figured that if they ignored us we'd go away! So we agreed with the crew that we'd talk to the neighbor and they could come back another time. After talking with the owner of the company, he told us that it wouldn't be cost effective for his crew to come up again unless we paid them an additional $500. We're left with 3/4 done work and now have to find another arborist company to come and finish the job. We will not be using Eastside Tree Works any time in the future or recommending them to anyone we know. The initial consultation was great, but communicating with them was a total disaster. read more

Contracted with them to remove over 9 trees. Waited nearly 2 months to get job done. In mean time Puget Power did major tree trimming and topping of several of trees. Contacted eastside to re-estimate job, as Puget Power was here nearly two days and did major work. Also had one tall tree fall in wind storm that was to be fell by Eastside. Their estimate was only minorly reduced, even though the amount of work was a lot less. example, three thin tall trees by power lines were delimbed and topped to less than 10 feet tall. Cost to remove these 3 stub trees was still too high in my opinion. When I told them we would not be going ahead with the job, we had waited 2 months for, they still charged me over $500 cancellation fee, Said the cancellation was outside the 3 day allowable window from the original estimate. Even though they re-estimated it less than 2 days ago. **************************************************************** I was contacted by the company within hours of the above complaint. They were very quick to resolve the issue for this unique situation. I would definitely consider them for future work. read more

Our experience with East Side Tree Works was very good! I had zero experience with this sort of thing. We had a 60-foot maple tree on a property line that we share with a neighboring church. The tree was on a steep embankment and difficult to access. The arsonist (Ron) was flexible with scheduling and was clearly knowledgeable able to communicate effectively with novices. Our tree was 75% dead from root rot and was considered an extreme hazard. The data and explanations Ron provided were verifiable. Scheduling the tree removal was easy and all the paperwork was done electronically. Ron even helped negotiate a coordinated scheduling and split payment arrangement with the church. The removal was done efficiently and cleanly. The leftover wood was deposited in a location that was even easier for us than per the original estimate and specifications. There was one misunderstanding regarding the handling of the leftover wood. However, the work team scheduler made an acceptable compromise to our complete satisfaction. After reaching out to a few other tree companies with no response, a co-worker gave me their information from a expo she had attended. The Owner met me onsite to provide a free estimate to prune some large trees that were blocking security camera visibility. He was very friendly and I had the bid in my e-mail inbox by the time I got back to my office a short time later. Their office staff was responsive, though there was a delay in getting the work scheduled. They arrived on time, did a great job with the tree canopy reduction and did an excellent job cleaning up. Frankly, I didn't know how the trees could possibly look good after removing so much height - but they still look natural. Both our Tenant and myself were happy with the work and will call them again for future jobs. read more

When we had a HUGE maple limb smash onto our roof and deck at 11 pm, it was terrifying because we couldn't tell the extent of the damage. At first daylight, I went out and inspected and couldn't believe what I saw! After the first call to the insurance company, they said "call a tree company." I called 3 or 4 that morning, but Eastside Tree was there WITHIN 2 HOURS. They were compassionate on the phone (I was still shook up) and I couldn't believe the speed of service, as we were not the only ones with tree damage. They brought a cherry picker and a crew and worked hard and fast to relieve tree weight on my deck (they saved my deck, yay!) and inspected the roof. They tarped the roof thoroughly to prevent leaks until a roofer could take care of that damage. Their clean up was great, considering there was twisted metal, broken glass, branches and limbs everywhere. They came back a few days later to cut the logs up for me and stack them. When disaster strikes, these are the guys to call. I am very grateful. read more
