Wow, if I could give 6 stars, I would. Of all the tree companies I contacted, James was the fastest to get back to me. He came out within days to walk my property and give me a quote. His expertise is clear with how he could immediately tell what needed to be done. To top that off, his quote was the most reasonable one I received. His crew came even in the pouring rain, and did an amazing job. They cleaned up and hauled everything away, and our yard looks so, so good now. At the end of the service, one of the guys came to check in and walk us through everything that was done to make sure we verified that we were satisfied. I had a 25-foot blue spruce blown over by a windstorm. While it was beyond saving, it was leaning against a neighbor's larger tree somewhat precariously, beyond my ability to take down safely. The branches of my neighbor's tree were so long that they blocked most of the light coming into the yard, and were actually resting on my roof. We had a very large diseased and dangerous Hemlock in our back garden that needed to come down and we also have a very large multi-leader Douglas Fir that needed to be cabled and pruned for tree vigor and structural safety. After getting three other quotes from different arborists, I chose James for his clarity and straightforwardness. James came out and gave me a fair and precise estimate. He was very thorough and helpful in telling me what needed to be done and why. The team showed up when expected and were very careful and considerate with our garden and property. They worked hard and fast, but also with care and precision. They ended up using higher quality cables then they quoted us for, because they ran out of the other cables, but we were not charged for the extra cost. They cleaned up everything and when they were dumping the chips for me to use as mulch later, they took great care in the pile placement, even though our drive is difficult to navigate for a dump truck. Thank you to David for saving our cat!!! Kiki went missing and on our 3rd day we found her stuck in a tree about 40 feet up! We called the fire department first thinking they could help get a cat out of a tree but they do not, so we quickly called all the arborists near by. Tree People responded promptly and I texted them the address - within 30 min they arrived. David was so kind and easily got up the tree with the cat carrier, gently got her into the cat carrier and got her down safely. We are so grateful for your guys's help. I know there's an actual company out there that gets cats down but they had their hands full with other cats stuck in trees so it was great that Tree People were able to respond so quickly. Since there's no way to respond to James's response I must leave another review. I'm not going to cite all of James's points since it's a waste of time but I did have 2 other arborists come out and tell us that what James had to say about pruning the laurel hedge was false. You can cut much further. In addition James told us tipping will help stem the growth, which is also false for laurels. True for fruit trees not for laurels. So it's a good thing he's no longer trimming laurels. I'm glad I only wasted 1500 and not 3000 - what a relief! / sarcasm. I'm sure he'll have a response to this as well, and it's up to you to listen to a client who isn't satisfied or a business defending a low rating instead of accepting responsibility for a mistake. read more

I contacted James at Tree People with concern for a hazardous Deodora Cedar in our Ballard parking strip that needed either removal or significant pruning. After 2 mouths of discussing my safety concern with the huge tree, we pursued removal (his recommendation). His quote was $1900 for removal and $400 for pruinung. They seemed fair. The city arborist determined that removal wasn't necessary, but significant pruning was needed. After being on every email with the city, expressing my concern for the safety of those in danger of this tree dropping branches, we went to proceed with pruinung and suddenly James increased the pruning price to $1000!! I understand that he mistakenly quoted me the wrong price--just to remove broken limbs and trim by wires--but I never once asked for just a small trim. Months of emails with the city, and he could have corrected his quote but was not until we got the permit and we're scheduling did he mention more than doubling the quote. I was not happy and asked for a reduction, as he now became the highest quote of 4 received. He basically argued that I was asking him to do the work for the original cost--i was not! I asked to meet me at $850 ($500 more than his quote!) and didn't even respond. Really poor business acumen. I now have to stay over again. If you're reading this James, feel free to respond to my email and do the right thing. Customers don't like bait and switch pricing, especially when were really clear of the type of job we're asking you to quote and perform. That error was on you, and I was willing to pay more than 2x more. Really unhappy with how you handled it (basically saying too bad!) read more

Tree People took down my neighbor's massive tree right across the street from me. I had a love/hate thing for that tree. Loved the shade and birds but the amount of things that came down and blew into my yard was a pain to clean up. Anyhoo, I watched Tree People work and they were very efficient and safety minded. A few months ago, James and his helper did a terrific job on my 100 year-old apple tree, which needed some serious help. They scaled the tree and thoughtfully trimmed it back, allowing for a good shape and balance to protect the tree in storms. They cleaned up all the debris, including little bits that had fallen on the lawn.
