French Onion Soup
Natalie S.

Met a friend here for lunch. The dining room was not busy, but the ambience was very pretty and inviting. Our food was AMAZING!! - Grilled artichoke appetizer special - French onion soup - Chicken Milanese - *Sea scallops over risotto - Chocolate Lava Cake - Mixed Berries *The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars is when my friend got her scallops and cut into them, they were under cooked. She gave them back to the waiter. We waited and upon getting them back, they were her old scallops. On the few occasions I've had to send food back, and considering scallops don't take long to cook, I was surprised they didn't make her a new plate; I wasn't thrilled about that. I asked her how the risotto was and she said it was bland, boring, and not flavorful. Otherwise, the rest of our food was delicious!!! I will definitely be returning!

Oooof! Not sure if I walked into the right place, but I left wondering what all the fuss was about here. Maybe back in the day it was something special, but times change. -Had a tequila drink and couldn't even taste the booze. -Fried Calamari appetizer was fake AF! -Meatball appetizer had too much seasoning. -Tomahawk steak special wasn't even cooked the way I asked and I wasn't pleased with the cut. Too expensive for the quality. Something isn't right here. FYI: Plenty of parking with its large lot in the back. They have an upstairs party room and rooftop.

I have been here before and I like it as much as I did the first time. We were a very large party. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. They have a pretty extensive wine list. We had two bottles of the Terra Doro Zinfandel, Prosecco and Martinis. For the eats, I had the Tuna Panko which was very good. Others had the Tuscan Seafood Stew, Veal Chop, Prime Rib. No complaints. Everything was tasty. We had Tiramisu and the Chocolate Mousse for dessert, along with coffee and tea. I do the like the ambience and overall vibe here. It can be sexy for a date and also great with friends. I definitely would come back.

As you can see from my past reviews this is one of my local favorites, which I would visit for their price fix 3 course lunch specials every Sunday. After more than a year since we moved out of this area I returned here with my family of four for Sunday lunch. We were the second booth to be seated. As we sat more tables were seated and became busier than when we last visited a year ago during lunch. I guess their lunch business is picking up here post COVID. The three of us ordered their price fix 3-course lunch, which is now $29.95. In the past a glass of wine was included, which is no longer included. I started with and enjoyed my two peach martinis. I also enjoyed my baked clams, which were smaller than I last had a year ago. I also enjoyed my 6 ounce medium rare filet mignon with three sauces, mushrooms and vegetables. I opted for their steak au poivre peppercorn sauce. My filet was properly cooked. We mentioned knowing Ben and Carlos, who were off today. Since our waiter noted that we were past regulars he comped us with two desserts to share including a great cheesecake and tiramisu. We ended our lunches with coffee. Tea was also included. We all agreed we will continue to return here for lunch or dinner the next time we visit the area.

This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food, service and ambiance never fails. I like that they don't rush us to leave.

Crispy Fried Calamari

Came in on a Sunday evening with 8 people to celebrate my parents' anniversary around 6pm. A couple tables were already seated, but we had a reservation and had no problems being seated right away. We started off with Crispy Fried Calamari, Sear House Salad, and Crab Cakes for the table. I loved the crispiness of the calamari. Not sure if it was by luck or they just routinely do it, but kudos to them for not serving the tentacles with the calamari (not a huge fan of them). The Sear House Salad had the perfect balance of salad to dressing and the crab cakes were perfect. I ordered the Mushroom Risotto for my main entrée. It was delicious and although the sauce looks heavy in the picture, it did not taste heavy. The dish was large enough that it could be shared between 2 people or taken home as leftovers. I only took off 1 star because the tables felt a little too close together for the restrictions that are still in place. Aside from that, we had a great dinner together and I would recommend Sear House for your next special occasion!

I haven't been a big fan of the seafood scene here in the tri-state. This placed changed my mind. The first time here our waitress, Beth made sure we knew what was fresh and popular for the evening. Throw in the fact that the owner Ralph and his mom checked in on us that we were happy with our dinners made this a great over the top local place. Food: For appetizers I had the escargot. It was amazing. Not your standard escargot in a standard scalloped dish with a small dash of garlic and butter, but a bowl consisting of a wonderful broth of escargot, garlic, butter and accompanied with toasted baguette slices. Mains: My wife ordered the "Codfather"consisting of cod, shrimp and scallops. Let's just say I made sure to keep my arms and hands on my side of the table and not attempt to try a sample from her plate with the fear of losing a digit. I ordered the fish and chips. Hey! It's fried, can't go wrong as a non-fish eater going with this route. Nope. Beyond my expectations. My last best fish and chips was at the famous take away at the Borough Market in London. This version? Fresh Cod, well done fries, homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw, just saved me the airfare to the UK. We have all ready been back twice. It is our new fave.

Since discovering it two months ago, I've already been back three times. Their happy hour menu, available every day before 6pm is one of the best around. The oysters are half-price, fresh, and plump, and the calamari, fried cauliflower, and brick oven pizza are all absolutely delicious. The mussels, however, have been a bit hit or miss across my visits. And a special shoutout to our server, Carlos, who made the entire experience even better. He was friendly, engaging, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. He even brought out an oyster to show us the size before we placed our order, such a thoughtful touch that really stood out.

4.5 stars We had…read moretried several Thai restaurants in Bergen and Rockland county and had continually been disappointed. However, that changed with our discovery of SOD. First off, the staff was extremely nice, both on the phone while placing our order and during our seamless pickup. Though we took the food to-go, their dining room was certainly cozy and comfortable enough for dining in on another occasion. When we got home and unpacked the food, we saw that the portions were generous and that everything was well-packed. We started by sharing the unique, Handmade Thai Crepe Dumplings. The beautiful dark purple noodle wraps had been stuffed with peanuts and turnips, a spectacular flavor combination covering salty, nutty, and sweet profiles. I then had my Tom-Yum Soup, which had been served in a quart container that was about 2/3 full, so a bit more than a pint. The spicy, sour lemongrass broth was packed with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaves, and tender white meat chicken, which we had asked to be added. The soup had been prepared with a medium spice level that was ideal for the dish. However, the restaurant was not shy with their spices on the main courses! I went with my standard Pad Se-Ew with Chicken, for which I do not typically specify a heat level. However, the restaurant's menu mentioned that spice could be added between mild and extra hot. I asked for medium, but it was definitely more fiery than I had expected! However, the noodles were delicate and the Chinese broccoli was fresh and crisp. My mouth might have been a bit numb, but I could still tell that the dish was tasty! Everyone else loved their individual plates, though we all took note that we should be more careful with our requested spice levels going forward. In addition to our own meals, we shared an order of the Garlic Noodles with Chicken, since it was an unusual dish for a Thai restaurant. It contained sautéed, flat rice noodles with egg, bean sprouts, scallions, garlic, sesame oil, and tender chicken. A mild heat level was perfect for this, as the lack of fire allowed the robust sesame and garlic notes to make an impact. Each piece of chicken was lean, moist, and tender. SOD Thai really exceeded my expectations and was definitely a local gem that we would order from again!
