Small menu that uses local, fresh ingredients. Stopped for breakfast twice and food was great. Not a fan of the latte but their drip coffee is good. read more

I have dined at Scratchboard Kitchen on 3 occasions, bringing a different friend each time. The quality of food and service is above my expectations. Each time we have had Stephanie as our server and she is outstanding. Love the farm to table concept and you can't pass on the pastries of the day! A perfect addition to the community. You won't be disappointed! read more

First timer and I'm so ready to go back. Scratchboard was amazing. The food was very visually appealing and tasted even better. The staff were all very professional and friendly. Our waitress, Stephanie, was awesome. Very personable and continuously checked in on our table. I highly recommend Scratchboard Kitchen. read more

This is the second time we attempted to dine here. The first time, we actually had a reservation and were still placed in the back, by ourselves, next to the bussing station in an almost empty restaurant. My husband demanded we get a table in the front, and finally after some hemming and hawing, we were given a table. The food was really nice but we felt that we were terribly inconveniencing the staff. Regardless, today, New Years Day, we decided to take my parents to Scratchboard. We walked in with no reservation and the back was empty, with an empty 4 top in the front and two empty 2 tops. We were told that there was no room, due to reservations. What kind of restaurant doesn't take walk-ins? Particularly on a holiday? read more

When I pay over $50 for a small section of short rib I expect some amount of attention to be put in the seasoning and cooking of the meat. What we got during our visit here was a sous vide short rib from an improperly salted and extremely fatty and sinewy cut of beef. Adding insult to injury, the kitchen seems to have spent as little time as possible actually searing the meat on only a single side which left us with a bland and greasy flavor profile. The lingering aftertaste had us actively trying to stop ourselves from throwing up over the next couple of hours as a means of reprieve. This establishment seems to forget that with an air of pretense comes the expectation of quality. read more

Monthly the cousins get together for brunch. Coming from distances between Kalamazoo Mi & Whitewater Wi. September's request - MUST have an espresso martini! Well Scratchboard Kitchen delivered with the martini & our breakfast. When making our reservation I explained we are six female cousins who reconnected after 50 years & have lots of catching up to do (we typically have a 2hr window) yet wanted to be respectful of their business. They were happy to accommodate us! It was a chilly, drizzly September Saturday, we were seated at a long table by the window . Our server Nico, was very attentive explaining the specials & making suggestions. I appreciated the gluten free options. Everything was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Thank you read more

This place is amazing! The food is beyond delicious and the staff are so nice. We ordered the everyday classic breakfast which was perfectly prepared! Also got a hot chocolate peppermint scone that was so fudgy and delicious and HUGE (leftovers later!) also had the apple pancakes and OMG - so good!! Try this place right now! And again the staff and service are great. The decor is also super cute! We are hooked. read more

The food and service were very good, but the portions were very small for the cost, I had the Eggs in Purgatory, which was $14, and there was only 1 egg in the dish, it was very good but definitely not worth $14 read more

Good Service. Over-priced food, small portions, nothing exciting. Many other better choices in same area, so pass.....................

First off I was very excited about going to pick up my carry out lunch from Scratchboard Kitchen. Unfortunately, when I arrived back to my office and opened the container that my lunch was in, I was completely disappointed in the serving size, Unbelievably expensive for a small little portion, left me dissatisfied and hungry. read more

Wanted to give this restaurant a second chance - tried a pop up dinner once and for sausages it was crazy expensive. Thought we try breakfast- usually less expensive and this is their supposed specialty. Warning -Sticker Shock! 2 egg biscuits, 1 crispy potatoes, 1 cold brew, 1 mimosa without tip was $67! Ridiculously way overpriced. Biscuits were average - I didn't care for the molded gelatinous egg. Maybe it was supposed to be soufflé like? If the menu was half the expense I would try again! It simply isn't worth it! read more

Mostly this review should be for the manager. I made reservations for 4, days ahead and we were seated at some silly bar stool style long table. This was Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Difficult to converse with the people seated across from you without yelling. Took nearly an hour after ordering our food to finally get served. The server was gracious enough to come by at regular intervals to see if we needed anything else. Very loud and uncomfortable. Seated under some type of vent blowing on my head ,close to the kitchen. I ordered the grilled cheese, less truffle, still charged full price. $16 dollars for a grilled cheese, no pickle or anything. When I complained about it, I got a nice smile. Sister ordered the eggs from hell, or whatever, and complained to us and the waiter, hostess or owner who visited our table, that is was comparable to an appetizer soup. No detectable spice to it. Looked exactly like something from Hell. That was greeted with a knowing apologetic smile. No offer to make things right. Why it took so long to be served is a mystery. Makes me think, if your order is not right, that's your problem. Long story short, I would not recommend this place . Just thought we would try a new place. Grade C food and lousy service. Overpriced. Small portions. Zero ambiance.. Maybe trying to be too trendy. Mention of some "chef" on the menu. Please go back to home ec "chef"! Contact by rep/owner. Sorry no change with review. read more

We come here 1-2 times per month and every time it is good! Scratch made food, excellent service, and family friendly! Their seasonal pastries are always unique and tasty, and their savory dishes are always filling and delicious. They also have tasty coffee drinks. read more

Waiting games... This place needs help and good management. Food ok, the wait for table and over hour wait for food ridiculous. It's breakfast. If you can't handle the tables you have, don't accept anyone until you can. It's rude and greedy to run a restaurant this way. Maybe go talk to well run restaurants like Wildberry, Lou Michelles get some tips how to serve good food at a reasonable time so people want to come back and share good reviews. I can't and I see I'm not the only one. read more

This restaurant is so popular and has a beautiful interior. I was underwhelmed with the food though. The good: the brûlée grapefruit was delicious. The truffle toast and the peach cobbler pancakes were average. The grain bowl was the biggest disappointment! V bland, super small portion and lacked any flavor. I had v high expectations of this place reading the reviews, but was a bit disappointed. read more

Average. Ridiculously small portions. Minimal menu . Crazy expensive. Too bad . Farm to table or not, I was still hungry after eating. Sorry but many reviews like this. Maybe it's a sign to listen to the customer and make changes. read more

Seated at back wall - no windows no ambience on a beautiful summer day -after being told they would do something nice for the birthday we were celebrating -plus the reservation was made 2 weeks out ! Was expecting a window at the very least as they said they CAN NOT ever seat 8 outside ... is this even true? The prices were robbery! I had Avacado toast - an order is one extra small piece of toast with a smear of goat cheese and a few slices avacado 14$- crazy! Gone in 3 bites! Left hungry! They didn't even bother to bring a candle out in a biscuit or sweet for our birthday celebration. Seriously lame. I do not recommend this place! read more

Farm to table type of food. Currently open for brunch and close by 3pm. They have had special dinner events 1x/month in the past which was a delightful experience! I sincerely wish they will one day be open for dinner. Otherwise, their brunch food is delicious and changes based on the season. Super friendly staff and dog friendly for their outdoor patio. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation because they're always busy! read more

Looking forward to going there for breakfast today and was very disappointed with their check in system. It was a party of 3. We were told it would be 30 minute wait. Standing off to the side just watching people checking in and getting seated. After 45 minutes we go check to see where we are on the wait list we are told we are next. We wait another 10 minutes and get a text that our table is ready. We go check in and they want to sit us INSIDE! We wait all that time to sit inside. We just walked away. Very, very, disappointed. read more

Conceptually, great. Farm to table, love it. I do find the menu is rather limited and in some cases a "heavy" meal. The food and ambiance is great, however I sense the staff comes across as rather entitled or rude. I'm not sure where that comes from. It feels like they are doing YOU a favor for allowing YOU to come in and dine there. There are a lot of options in the area that welcome you with open arms and get to know you by name. Like when I see Garrett at Hey Nonny or Michael at CoCo & Blu! Five stars for them! With Scratchboards limited hours and 15% surcharges on bills, I don't feel this is appropriate behavior. Well, you be the judge if you dare to visit. Scratch this one off the list. read more

Worst service I've had in a long time. Waited 10 minutes for a host to even speak to us. We assumed they were understaffed and were very understanding, but the waiter was just plain rude. He barely acknowledged us and seemed to be upset he was at work. Food was fine, but not good enough that we would ever return. read more

It was good and cozy place but very few vegetarian options. Server got me wrong dish and when i asked for changing it he was nice but he billed me for 2 dishes. When I asked to remove that from bill as i never consumed it, he did not. I was there on a date, so i did not argue. But definitely it was a place where hospitality was good. I would never go there again read more

Great food, great service, great outdoor seating. Had brunch today and the table ordered a biscuit sandwich, peach cobbler pancakes, and short rib hash. The biscuit was amazing and fairly large. Peach cobbler pancakes were a huge, belly filling meal of deliciousness. While the Short rib hash was very tasty, the portion size was pretty small for $17... I ended up ordering a biscuit to fill up (great decision). read more

The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean! I'm always greeted so warmly but unfortunately that's as far as it goes. Very nice interior, great server. Food was good, was there for brunch. Solid experience

Food, service, and ambiance are excellent. One of the best restaurants for breakfast. The portions are a little small but that is because I loved the food and wanted more. They are a farm to table restaurant so the menu changes frequently. This one you can not miss. They take reservations. I will be back. The waiter name was Fernando I think. He was also excellent. read more

Visited here for lunch and so far I'm not getting the hype. My partner and I both had the apple and prosciutto grilled cheese with tomato soup. The sandwich was incredibly salty...so much prosciutto and dijon you couldn't taste the cheese. We literally struggled to eat it, eventually taking it apart so that we could have something to eat. The tomato soup was ordinary. I will say that the bread was fantastic. The service was OK; there was some mixup over who had our table...seems to have put both of them in a bad mood. I'd say both servers were competent and businesslike, so no complaints but definitely nothing to gush over. We're happy to give this place another try and revise this review. read more

Went to this place in the middle of COVID-19. They were super awesome. Our waiter recommended the chicken biscuit sandwich. It was awesome. Get it. Wife had fancy oatmeal... she loved it. We sat outside in between 2 heaters. Cold? A bit. But beautiful. Quaint Arlington Heights downtown. Met the chef who was wonderful. The owner is extremely sweet. Everything about this place is wonderful. Everything is fresh. They are local and everything is from scratch (hence the name). Please support them!! read more

Saw the reviews and decided to give it a try. Got the short rib hash. It was way too salty. It lacked any real flavor. It was horrible. Ate a few spoonful and that was enough. The menu didn't have a lot of original flavorful options. Coffee was okay. Even then, wouldn't say it's anything special. If you want a good breakfast and some good coffee, this is not the place to be at. I'm a veteran when it comes to breakfast food. Have tried all the good breakfast joints in Chicago. This place is not in the league. TLDR Food presentation - 8/10 Food taste - 3/10 Coffee - 6/10 Interior - 8/10 Staff - 7.5/10 Bottom line: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

First and foremost I am ALWAYS ready to support local, farm to table, female owned and executed restaurants like Scratchboard so I was really excited to try this place. I am also acutely aware of the challenges in the service industry post covid. Not enough staff, and general frustrations. I consider myself pretty forgiving when it comes to a lot of issues that may come up when eating out - what I can't stand is disrespect. If we're talking just food I think it's a bit overrated. It could have been what we ordered. I will say the gluten free banana bread loaf was easily the best thing we ate. Our server was fantastic. Personable, engaging, and around just enough. Where we ran into a bit of a hiccup was checking in. I'll admit, on a sunny Saturday morning there's no reason this place shouldn't be hoppin. Perhaps what happened when we arrived was my fault, but I feel like there were better ways to deal with our situation (ones that didn't put a sour taste in my mouth through brunch). I made 10:15am reservations through their site for 2, and just as I was leaving a third wanted to join. Me, thinking this should be an easy accommodation, welcomed the 3rd to our party. When we checked in the hostess seemed annoyed immediately. Basically we had to forfit the reservation completely without her being straight with us. If a 3rd person was that much of an issue let the guest know, we would've easily understood and gone elsewhere. Instead we waited a half hour, and even then were only sat when one of us prompted with a question of how much longer we needed to wait. Once again we were treated like a third person was a total imposition and even talked down to at that point. Just didn't seem super professional. Like I said before the server made up for a lot of it, but the food was just...shrug? read more

We came here with our toddler daughter and everyone was so sweet. She was a bit wild and excited to finally be out of the house and in a new setting for once since the pandemic started. Favorite place for breakfast/brunch! I just had a breakfast biscuit again and had one biscuit for to go, comes with house made jam and amazing butter, so so good. We had dinner on Saturday August 3rd. We both ordered the trout which came very salty and overcooked we mentioned it to the server that it was salty but nothing became of it.
