The service here was a little odd and very blunt, like told we had to leave our table immediately upon finishing our meal so they could seat the next guest...like quite literally 5 minutes after we finished. But the banana bourbon waffles and their potatoes make up for every single ounce of weird service. Truly one of the best sweet breakfasts I've ever had, and I am still craving it. We are here to go to rock and roll hall of fame- last time here we went to different breakfast place. Have since been put on a carnivore elimination diet by doctor for very specific medical reasons. Realized original place wasn't going to work. Took a chance on Scratch. INCREDIBLE! No fuss. No argument. No giving us the toast anyway cause might "change" our minds! The food was fantastic. We asked our server to give us highlights of the menu. She promptly went through the entire thing, though telling us that she wouldn't let us order the regular old breakfasts since we were first timers. She sold us quite hard on a few of the items, and she under sold. We had the sweet jalapeño sandwich and the pumpkin roll pancake. Was visiting Ohio for a couple of days and found this cute restaurant. The name Scratch is very catchy, so we decided to check it out! They've got a private parking lot, which is always a plus! This is where you go for a hometown meal. Restaurant got a nice vibe. Some stuff in the menu were familiar and some were not which I loved. The restaurant makes their sausage from scratch, the bacon was oh so good! Was thick and juicy and cooked just right. I order a classic breakfast that came with the bacon, it was delicious! And Tiramisu Pancake came with their homemade sausage. Not going to lie I was not a fan of that sausage but, you might like it so don't dismiss it ;). The service was nice. Amazing breakfast - totally worth the 20 minutes drive. The food was so good - genius move to make French toast out of bread pudding! Our portions were good and saw that breakfast burrito and omelette are huge, so might try those if I'm super hungry. I ordered the biscuits and gravy after getting some recommendations since it was my first time there. Biscuits and gravy were great. I could tell everything was made with care. The medium eggs were perfect and the home fries were surprisingly good. Speaking of surprises there was was a sausage patty in the middle of both biscuits. Definitely more than filling. Potatos were soo good loved everything, we got in and out no issues. Servers were on top of things even when we requested milk not cream.

The food is FANTASTIC. We got biscuits and gravy and tiramisu pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The potatoes are insane, they need their own name! Service was great. Mere words on parchment can in no way prepare you for the visual and gustatory nirvana you are about to enter when the waiter returns to your table and sets your selection in front of you. I selected the Compassion Burrito and asked for a side order of home fries. Again: you cannot be prepared for what is about to happen because your brain has set an expectation for the words "burrito" and "home fries" that are set against the mundane, uninspired, and trivial background of your prior previous experience from lesser chefs trudging the path of the banal. The Compassion Burrito is as wide as the serving bowel and thicker than most human biceps. It arrives enrobed in a delicate layer of queso, topped with exactly the right quantity, heat level and texture of salsa. I sat in awe for 10 seconds, decided which end of the burrito to despoil with knife and fork, and moaned silently as the combination of artfully folded and layered egg danced with the sinfully moist pork and home fried potatoes married within. Did I say PO-tatoes? Oh no, these are not mere pommes de terre...not these. These are PRO-tatoes served by Nick the executive chef; MO-tatoes because you will scoop the crunchy crumbs from the woefully empty bowl and beg for more; DOH-tatoes because you would be as clueless as Homer Simpson if you cannot appreciate how far beyond the baseline of starchy tubers your senses have traveled from but a single mouthful; GO-tatoes because I urge you to clear your culinary calendar for breakfast or lunch and rekindle your sense of surprise, wonder and awe in the presence of a chef and staff that have mastered the art of creating customers for life by demanding more of your sense of the possible from mere food. Ate here when passing thru cleveland area. I had the burrito (thing looked like a football lol) and wife had the cornbeef hash. Was not your typical cornbeef hash and I mean that in a good way. The decor is cute, homey, and creates a welcoming environment immediately upon entering. Literally everything on the menu (toast excepted) is made from scratch and couldn't be more delicious! Y'all need to get here ASAP! This was one of the best meals I've had since I moved to Cleveland a little over a year ago. After seeing photos of Scratch's breakfast food on Yelp, I knew I needed to get here ASAP for breakfast. I'm glad I went in today (Saturday) because they're closed on Sunday and Monday. We arrived at 9:55 am and there were still three empty tables so we were able to get seated right away. Within a minute our server got our drink orders and greeted us. We looked at the menu drooling over everything. There lunch menu is very small because they serve breakfast all day (8:00-1:30 everyday Tuesday-Saturday). We decided to order the bourbon banana French toast and the burrito to share. I absolutely LOVE that they donate $1 of every burrito purchase to children in poverty and $1 of every French toast purchase to Cleveland Homeless. Those were the two menu items we wanted anyway but that definitely added a draw. When our food arrived, not only was is awesome looking, it was pretty quick! Let me start out by saying that the Bourbon and Banana Carmel Bread Pudding French Toast was one of the most delicious things I've EVER had for breakfast! They take bread pudding and make it into French toast!!!! And it's topped with fresh whipped topping and bananas! Seriously incredible! I'm here on business and immediately saw this place on my feed and decided I had to go here... not realizing it was July 4th. My bad. Two days later, I came back, so let's start the review fresh. A wonderfully quaint little brunchy eatery in the heart of Independence, Scratch does it best to feel like home in every way possible. I took a Lyft here and it's pretty easy to miss as their signage is beyond subtle, but once you step foot in the establishment, you'll be greeted by friendly people, delicious-looking food, and a huge logo on a wooden wall with what looks like hooks for keys or jackets. The menu is small but appears to be ever changing. I wanted to have the gingerbread French Toast, but it didn't appear to be an option so after hearing about the special, which sounded delicious, I opted to go with the bread pudding French Toast and pork belly. I'm used to bread pudding being on the softer side, so the toast ended up being a little firmer than I expected. Still, it tasted good especially with the maple-infused whipped cream that just melted upon contact. The blueberry moonshine sauce also provided a good "not too sweet"ness to help build the flavor. Finally, as an Asian, I expect thick hearty slices of pork belly, and what I got was essentially bacon. But I'm not going to complain about bacon, which also tasted fantastic. The fact that there's a legitimate attempt to do everything by scratch here makes the dining experience more pleasant. I also would like to commend Julia on her outstanding customer service.
