Update. Been a bit since we've eaten here. Still the same. Met some friends here on a Tuesday. Wasn't crowded. The server was very nice and accommodating. We haven't seen these friends in a bit so we were kinda eating and lounging and talking. We ordered the original corn beef to split the regular size and we got the homade potato and cole slaw. Our guests got the corn beef as well and potato pancakes as their side. One liked the potato pancakes and one did not. They are mash potato consistency not shredded. I tasted they were ok to me. The potato salad and cole slaw were both good. Better choice. The corn beef actually looked smaller than usual. It was good but I thought it had been larger in the past. Maybe not anymore. Service was good. Food came out on time. This is a good place to go. Prices are a bit high but it's a deli. You can do what we did and split the sandwich. It enough food. Bar is nice. The patio is nice too. It's a good space and they even have a party room if you want to rent it out. Slymans is an institution. We will be back at some point again. read more

Great time, as always, at Slymans on our trips to Cleveland or Akron we always make time for a sammie. Usually we get the original corned beef sandwich each. Sadly we had a vigorous schedule so we shared one. They gifted us an extra pickle! Sat at the bar which was bustling! We had a lively chat with our bartender about Italy. The to-go young lady was hustling! We only wish there was Slymans in Tampa! But I'd probably gain some weight, hehe If you love corned beef, this beats out that deli in NYC, which I won't name because some people are devoted fans of them. Slyman's has been a place we go to every time we're in town. There's a variety of seating for small and large parties. I enjoyed my fish and fries. The fish with lemon and tartar sauce were wonderful. I was disappointed to see that my coleslaw was inside a condiment container. My husband liked his light corn beef sandwich but I will say for the $16 price you shouldn't have to pay extra for the cheese, thousand island dressing, rye bread and toasted features that are a staple to this dish. This place used to be packed. The positive side Amanda was a great waitress that tended to all the tables here. She needs a raise! I know it's not a lot of people anymore but she was working it with a smile on her face doing her best to take care of all of us. read more

Best corned beef around. Very tender stacked high sandwiches. That is definitely their specialty along with pastramis. The burgers are good. The chicken fingers are average. The fries are ok. Met friends for dinner and was pleasantly surprised how large it was inside. Service was great, as was the food. Given I ordered the knife and fork corned beef, I was thinking it would be chunks of corned beef, instead of thin sandwich slices. If you are in Cleveland, Slyman's is a must. I was never a corned beef person until a good friend of mine took me there for the first time. After that I was sold. At the location the atmosphere was somewhat low key and seemed to cater to business men & women. Good beer selection and portion sizes we just right. Service was good and quick enough for our shortened schedule. Next up I will likely try the rueben but it's hard not to get the corned beef sandwich. read more

OH 02-2024 Slyman's Tavern in Independence near Cleveland Ohio, Tony and I had dinner. It is located in shopping center near our hotel. We were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress and hostess were both extremely nice. Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were escorted into the second room. Tony and I looked over the menu while she took our drink order of Halk cut Iced Tea with Lemon and PBR in a can. We went with the original Slyman's Corned Beef Light (which means baseball Size vrs regular which is softball size) with kraft, grilled onions and toasted bread! Awesome!!! I also ordered for us to share an order of pierogies and potato pancakes...oh everything was delicious and we shared it all!! The horseradish was fresh! Everything was delicious absolutely highly recommend and would eat here again!!! I wish I lived near by to eat here more often!!! All these low stars?!?! How in the whole world do you make a bad sandwich? at a deli at that!!!!!! I'm calling out all these restaurants in business with nasty customer service and nasty food. Although the CS here was fine, the food is unnecessarily bad. Like, its only a sandwich. I went in for lunch because I had other business in the plaza and I decided to get a Reuben. It arrived VERY quickly, too quickly as a matter of fact. My sandwich had seemingly been assembled from what I would say were "premanufactured" pieces and not really made on a grill as a complete entity. Nothing seemed to be hot. The bread was limp and cool. I know I get better Reubens at other local places and they come out hot and obviously cooked right then and there and the ingredients have a chance to work with each other in the cooking process. This sandwich also had the just faintest wisp of sauerkraut, but not enough to assert a presence. I expected much more for a $22 sandwich. It was overrated, overhyped, and overpriced. I remember getting a $26 omelette at the Peppermill in Las Vegas and I knew they were at least trying to be impressive at that price point. The service was lackluster in both its frequency and attention and my bill was incorrect when it arrived. I'm not sure if I could blame a general disinterest or cognitive insufficiency as the reason for my experience. I've not been to the one on St. Clair, but I don't see a reason to return to the one in Independence. Boy, I miss Corky and Lenny's. read more

This place was mediocre. The service and people were great. The ambience included knats, otherwise it would have been a great sports bar atmosphere. The food: We ordered mushrooms, classic corned beef, fish sandwich, and potatoe pancakes. The corned beef was served cold, then was offered to put it in the microwave. The potatoe pancakes were bland, the most flavor came from the sour cream. On the other hand, the fish sandwich was really good and cooked well. The mushrooms were really good, but was a very small portion. The drinks: I had a peach sangria, which was delicious! This place clearly has a knat problem, which I found to be strange, in the middle of winter. My husband killed two while we were eating. Stopped in to Slyman's on a friend's recommendation while taking a quick daytrip to Cleveland. We didn't realize the original location closed at 2:30pm but thankfully we checked before driving over and then were able to locate the Tavern location which was basically equidistant from where we already were. For our table of two adults and two toddlers we got a pastrami reuben, a corned beef dry, and then fried pickles to share. Everything tasted great and was freshly prepared. The dipping sauce for the pickles had a nice zip to it and the bark on the pastrami had a nice peppering. Our server was friendly and the waits for food were very reasonable. I had the opportunity to eat at Slyman's Tavern, Independence, OH restaurant in Independence yesterday. I was completely disappointed. I ordered the Tavern favorite "BLT" the lettuce was one small decrepit piece the tomato was so small you could hardly see it the bacon was perfect but the rye bread was the butt end of the loaf. I complained to the waitress, she apologized and brought me out 2 pieces of grilled rye (on one side only). She did remove 1/2 of the sandwich price but still... I don't understand the fascination with this place. The food is incredibly overrated. The corn beef sandwiches were humongous but very very dry and the fries were so bad they shouldn't even serve them. However, the inside is very clean and pretty. The corned beef on my reuben was like corned beef lunch meat and the sandwich definitely wasn't hot, in fact it came much too quick after ordering, as if it was already made and the meat was definitely on the slimy side. A Cleveland Masterpiece. The best possible sandwich you can get. I went to the Original downtown years ago and this one keeps the name strong. I've dreamt of this for months before coming here. We got the New Yorker version of a Reuben sandwich, which is pastrami and corned beef. Over stuffed and delicious as usual The sliced dill pickle spears were nice and fresh and flavorful, and the sauces were all good although I do not think the spicy sauce that comes with the fried pickle appetizer was spicy at all . You taste a lot of smoke flavor and it's very good but "spicy " definitely not. The ranch dressing that comes with the fried mushroom appetizer, complemented it perfectly . It was balanced and not overly herbal. The hot chocolate was good and came in a normal sized coffee cup, not a fishbowl . If you want a glass of water, you need to ask for one. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food you are getting and the pleasant Tavern ambience. There is a happy hour for four of the different appetizers only where they are five dollars apiece and that is worth considering if you'd like to share different things around the table. The restaurant was clean inside and out and so were the bathrooms. They got really busy shortly after the 5 o'clock crowd started coming in, so we were lucky. We got there around 4:30. No complaints in the server was very attentive. Be aware that half of the seating is that tall barstool with the back kind of thing with the taller table. Fortunately, they have some regular tables that we were able to use as Seniors. That's pretty much a necessity. Same if you have a handicap. They had a cute little valentine's decorated Christmas tree. A comfortable place. I do wish the seats were padded, but except for the back of the bench seats you are out of luck there. read more

Slyman's is great, but come on, the shrinkflation is real. I got a regular hamburger (no cheese) on UberEats and it was $15. I was expecting a big juicy burger at that price, but got something more resembling a slider. Tiniest, saddest burger I've gotten at that price point. The two stars are for flavor. read more

got the LITE corned beef reuben and, as you can see, it is still plenty of food! The corned beef was less salty than other places/what I am used to, but I didn't mind it! I wish I had taken the time to truly taste the reuben aspects of the sandwich, but I was too busy wolfing it all down! The bread is good, thick, and definitely quality. Let me start this one with "I used to love you." What has happened to this place? I would argue it's never been as good as the flagship downtown, but it has delivered consistently for years...until the last several times. Specifically my last two visits have been epic fails. First off, the beer. WTF, Slymans? Your taps are BAD. Every tap beer we've tried has been Flat. Just a Cardinal Sin for a tavern. And this isn't a day or a week thing, this is Months! Shame on you. And the food? Well, I've already noted the chintzy decision to stop putting Slymans Fries on the Happy Hour selection. We ordered them yesterday at full price ($13.50!) and they were soggy with corned beef that was clearly scraps. My southwest chicken salad was unappealing, with lettuce and toppings that looked and tasted near expiration. Again, Shame. The sandwiches were okay, but they are clearly not worth NY prices (well over 20 bucks). Reubens in particular lack the proper grilling and the melty cheese. Twice in a row we've been seated in the "I don't care" section, way in the back, with zero ambience, despite plenty of room in the main areas.
