I first discovered Gourmands around 2002 when I worked in the area. It was famous then- great service, delicious sandwiches, all my coworkers were obsessed with the chippers. We loved the spot and was always a treat when we had Gourmands for lunch. I am back working in the area and was pleased to see they were still open. It's been 20 years probably, I prepared myself to be disappointed. Surely, they can my be at the same caliber as before? I bet someone else bought the place and quality went downhill? I was gleefully wrong. Same great service. Same wonderful, plentiful menu. Same excellence and quality. Same chippers! Great deli I have worked close to here for over 10 years and we have ordered on and off over the years. I will say their sandwiches are good and the chippers are delicious. Like with most businesses the cost has gone up and the amount of toppings has decreased. This place is hard to categorize. It's a coffee shop, deli, cigar shop and hang out spot. You can even find interesting IPA's for sale there too. They often offer you an expresso shot or chai tea sample as they brew it. They work like a well oiled machine turning out top notch deli sandwiches for breakfast or lunch. This is my favorite sandwich spot in ALL of Cleveland. I feel like most Clevelanders may saw Slyman's which is CLE iconic but Gourmands is a hidden gem. It's tucked away in a small strip mall in Valley View with early hours (i think they close at 2pm). Locals KNOW the value of this sandwich so don't attempt to just show up at 12pm and order a sandwich. You should definitely call ahead so you are not left waiting an hour. The list of sandwiches on the menu is vast but my favorite is the cajun redfish (spicy breaded fillet with coleslaw on multigrain bread). I chose my favorite, The V-8, a hearty sandwich made on multi-grain bread filled with crispy, fresh veggies, including cucumbers, peppers, mushrooms, red onions, sprouts, pepper rings, lettuce, and tomato, smeared with a gorgeous sundried tomato pesto. The sandwich holds together amazingly well, and it is equal parts beautiful, satisfying, and just plain delicious. It had been such a long time since I dined here. I was so glad I was in this area. This place is great for breakfast and lunch. They close at 3 daily. There are tons of items on the menu and it is broken down by meat so if poultry is your jam, you can easily find what you want. There is a very cool drink selection too. I chose a pure leaf green tea with a hint of fuji apple and ginger. So Yum! My wrap was so tasty and humongous. When you dine in, you pay when you leave. All the staff are super helpful and patient. I found this place by chance in a Facebook foodie group and I'm so glad I did. The particular post in the group mentioned the Hawaii Five-O; smoked turkey, pepper jack cheese, slaw, pineapple chutney, bacon, and Maui sweet onion potato chips on toasted farm bread. When I read that description, I was sold and decided to order it that very day. It was recommended that you call ahead to place your order, as it tends to get very busy at lunch time. Upon arrival, it was pretty busy, but I didn't have to wait long at all. They have a huge board behind the counter with an extensive sandwich menu; truly something for everyone. They also serve coffee, smoothies, breakfast items, and baked goods. There is also a nice selection of beer, wine, and cigars for sale. The man at the counter was very friendly and was playing really good music. When I finally got home and tried the sandwich, I was blown away. It was everything I wanted and more. Everything was so fresh and expertly made. I went back the next day and ordered the same thing, and also some cookies that were near the counter that looked good (they were). I do recommend calling your order in very early since they pretty much stop taking orders around lunchtime because it gets so busy. The shop itself is very small inside but it works! Out on the motorcycle for a ride before work and needed to pick up lunch on the way downtown; since I was coming up the Cuyahoga Valley I remembered that I had heard great things about Gourmand's. Located in a small retail plaza at the intersection of Canal and Granger Roads is one of a wonderful surprising deli, coffee shop, wine and cigar store. From the outside you would never what you find inside. Walking in Gourmand's you find a very nice and well organized shop. Half the room is set up with tables that you can seat yourself at, the decor is attractive and casual. I found myself almost overwhelmed by the huge menu boards with more choices then you would expect. Luckily the menu is well organized so I zeroed in on the fish and seafood choices and ordered the Shrimp Poboy. Since I was taking it with me, they packed the vegetables and sauces on the side so everything was perfect when I put it all together at work. The sandwich was excellent, a large portion of battered shrimp were crispy and plump. The bun was toasted nicely, crisp and tasty. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and crunchy. The sandwich came with a tangy homemade tarter sauce and zippy sirancha. All of the elements worked well together and it was as good as I have had in Cleveland. Stopped by for a second visit and had to try the Redfish Sandwich based on the review by Jason Y. He was so right as this is one of the best fish sandwiches I have had. You get 3 good sized fillets of ocean perch with a crispy coating, a very good and very hot sauce, coleslaw on slices of excellent toast. The fish was perfectly cooked with the hot sauce just at the edge of being too hot, but then balanced by the crisp and cool slaw. The only problem I had with the sandwich is that it was messy to eat; I would rate this as a 4-5 napkins required. Gourmand's lives up to its name, the food is excellent and you get great food for a reasonable price. If you are anywhere close, check them out. read more

This place is fantastic. So many tasty sandwiches to pick from. They have salads also, but the sandwiches, oh my. They are very busy during weekday lunch hours so please call ahead. If you do walk in not uncommon to wait 20-30 minutes during lunch. The food is worth it. My wife swears by the salads. They break down the sandwiches by type, Vegan, Pork, Beef, Chicken. This place is right down the street from where I work. This is the second time being here and both times were amazing. It's a little shop that offers sandwich, salads, soups, coffee and also they have alcohol and cigars which is surprising. The staff are very friendly and it's always very busy during lunch time. I've had their Cajun chicken sandwich the first time and a BLT the second time. Both sandwich were amazing, very tasty and price are very reasonable. So I am not one to gush in my reviews, but OH MY GOODNESS, I would give Gourmand's 6 stars if I could! On the way to a work meeting, my team met up at Gourmand's for a quick coffee and a breakfast sandwich. I am a big latte fan, but this hazelnut latte was delicious! I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a croissant. It is very possible this is the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had! First, it was huge and the croissant was so fresh. After making it, it looked like it may have gone on a panini press and it was absolute perfection. My co-worker and I are big unsweet tea fans. Everything pre-made/pre-packaged in the coolers were sweet teas. So they freshly brewed unsweet tea just for us. It was fantastic. In fact, after our meeting we went back for more tea. So not only was the staff super great and the food amazing, but this little store has everything you need. Craft beer, wine from around the world, cigars from around the world, a great selection of local chocolate bars (from Malley's) and a hug menu of breakfast and lunch items. I saw this place featured in one of the Yelp weekly emails and I knew I had to try it right away! They are only open until 3pm and only during the week, but luckily I was only working half a day so I could run over and grab a variety of goods off the menu. I was waited on by one of the owners and he was so patient with me while I figured out what to order. I LOVE that they let you get half sandwiches without charging you extra, it's no big deal to them and they actually wish more people would do that so they could try more off the menu. Also, they don't mind a little customization so if you want to add garlic mayo or swap out grilled mushrooms for grilled zucchini on your sandwich no problem! I went with four halves (two total sandwiches), an order of homemade chips and a side of coleslaw. While I waited for my order to be ready I perused about the store and saw that they offer a variety of wine, craft beer, cigars, chips, coffee, and sodas. To me it seemed like a great place to pick up quality items for a tasty lunch without encountering things like Miller Light or Lay's Potato Chips. I also noticed that I had just walked in before a rush! This place gets pretty busy but staff stays calm and friendly which makes you chill out too even with 15 people standing around you in a small space. When my order was ready I paid a reasonable price and was surprised to have four cookies from a local place thrown into my bag. Hells yeah! Now time for the food: No meager fillings for these sandwiches! While all were good, my favorite was probably the The Philly. Just hearty messy no frills goodness. The Gobbler was similar but had a kick to it, there had to have been some hot peppers in there! Cajun Redfish had a great crust and flavor while the Apple Porkling was good even eaten cold the next day. My order of homemade chips and dip was huge and I had to break that up into a couple meals as well. It was nice to have some crunch to go along with the sandwiches. The coleslaw was lackluster, but still fine for a topping on some of the sandwiches. The cookies, oh man there was this oatmeal apple one, this chocolate and nut one, oatmeal raisin and this one with toffee or caramel? I had a bite of each but my favorite was the chocolate and nut one, just soft and delicious. All in all my first visit here was a success! Favorite deli spot in Cleveland. Their hours are from 6am to 3pm most of the time but you know the food is good if they are able to close so early in the day. From the moment you walk in, the staff greets you and you see a huge menu written on a chalkboard overhead. They have so many options from poultry, beef, seafood, to delicious breakfast sandwiches. My favorite go to is the Cajun redfish. Hands down, best fish sandwich I've ever had and I usually get this when I come in. Occasionally I will try a different sandwich but man is the fish sandwich good. Everyone should try it out if they like fish! They also have hot chocolate and good coffee. I have only had the salads and cookies from Gourmand's and let me tell you, they are the best salads! It does not matter if you are buying a salad in the middle of winter, the lettuce and other toppings are ALWAYS fresh. The turtle cookie is to die for! The cookies are also homemade and made with so much love. It's convenient for those who are working because not only you can call but you can fax your order in also. But the downfall is that they are only open Monday-Friday and they close early, I think 2pm. read more

I was in the Independence area for work and was told by a co-worker to check out Gourmands. I did just that and found the experience to be the definition of old-school customer service and quality. This is the PERFECT little place located in the valley (Valley View) across from Burger King and next to Schwebel's Outlet. Prices are decent. You DO get what you pay for and it's worth it! I ordered a Polish Boy and it was COVERED with probably 4oz of coleslaw. It appears that a LOT of their items are made by hand or it's their own recipe from the coleslaw to the chicken soup, you could tell the carrots were cut by hand. Gourmand's makes their own coffees, sell beer, cigars and other items making it a one stop shop for just about anyone looking for breakfast, brunch or lunch. It's worth checking out as their menu is HUGE and several options are available. You can order to go or dine in as there about a dozen set of tables to sit at. Been wanting to try this place for a while since it's just down the hill from me and I've heard good things about it and they didn't disappoint. Went in for lunch and got the Triple B Melt with a cup of soup and coffee. The portions were large and the food was tasty. My favorite part was the broccoli and cheddar soup made in house by the shop owners wife. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the staff was very friendly. I was surprised by the extensive menu considering the size of the place. It was slightly overwhelming but we explained it was our first time and they were more than happy to walk us through the process. I would definitely recommend and visit again but it was a bit more than I would like to spend to make it an everyday lunchtime stop. read more

Not sure how I haven't reviewed this place yet! I love a good deli sandwich and this place always satisfies! The food is fresh and tasty. There's so many options to choose from and you can of course customize it a bit if you're not 100% sure you want it the way the menu reads. The sandwiches are generous in size.
