I met a friend here for Sunday brunch. It was easy to make a reservation - which I recommend. I was greeted with a warm welcome. Our waitress was Sonya who was attentive. The manager stopped by our table to see if we needed anything. I was not too thrilled with the brunch menu. We started with a hot shrimp dip that was just ok and the shrimp were hard to find (if there even were any in it). I pieced together my meal that included smoke wood bacon, grits and a biscuit. First things first... the shrimp dip is AMAZING! Definitely recommend ordering this as an appetizer or a meal if you're not super hungry. I also recommend the French toast for all the French toast lovers out there. It's a thick cut bread stuffed with berry cream cheese and topped with fresh fruit. Because it's a stuffed French toast, the portion size is probably enough for two people to share. I ended my meal with an extra order of brussel sprouts since the French toast was practically dessert. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back. A lovely and cold Sunday found me and a friend driving around looking for brunch. When I googled what was near us Scout came up. We were close parked and went it. We were greeted by a very charismatic woman named Jennifer. She seated us and told us Clair would be our waitress. We bantered with her for a few minutes and then started to look over the menu. It was brunch and the first thing I eyed were the deviled eggs. Jennifer returned and announced that she had talked Clair into taking our table. The comedy was about to begin. She was hilarious. We ordered drinks I got the old fashion and when I tell you it was a three finger pour it was just that. It put a smile on my face. The deviled eggs came shortly after and were topped with a bacon jam....sooo gooood. We split the lamb lollipops and ordered the banana fosters French toast. The young man that delivered them placed them in front of us and I announced..."Get the chef out here cause I'm gonna slap her!" It was meant to be a compliment but I think he was too young to get the reference. The French toast was so damn good! All the sudden the chef was at her table I believe her name was Crystal. She wanted to know why we wanted to slap her and even stated "A few of the guys in the kitchen were going to handle it" she decided to handle it her self. The second we started complimenting the food and the service she knew what we meant. We talked to her for a while and found her to be very pleasant as well. This was my first and will definitely be my last time visiting this place. I came here with my nephew for a relaxed dinner. That is not what we received. The breakdown: 1. The rude girl at the front desk asked if we had reservations for a restaurant at 40% capacity. I said no and she made it seem like such a hassle before finally seating us. 2. Ordered a shrimp dip which ironically was missing SHRIMP. 3. The medium burger looked good before realizing the patty was burnt with a charred bun. 4. Wife, daughter and I came last Saturday for brunch and we got there right after they opened so we were a few of the first people in the restaurant. We were seated and shortly after our waitress came by to get drink orders and get things going. I started with a Bloody Mary, sounded good. And it was, very tasty. I ordered the Western bowl, ham, potatoes, onions, peppers and 2 over easy eggs. It was really good! Daughter got the Brussel Sprouts bowl and wife got a egg white omelet with spinach and some cheese. Everyone thought the brunch was really good. Scout Once we sat down, we couldn't believe we've lived in the area for as long as we have without ever visiting Scout but we are happy we finally did and that we have a new favorite spot! Food - Such a great variety and we had nothing bad. For starters, we tried the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Sriracha Salmon Bites and the Filet Mignon Kabobs. The crab cakes were good but somewhat bland although the pickled chow chow that the crab cakes were served on was very good. The Kabobs were tasty but the star of the starters was definitely the Sriracha Salmon Bites - holy cow, they were amazing. Next time we will definitely order the salmon bites again... and again... and again... and then maybe try something new. For our entrees, we both ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese. First, it's probably enough to split especially after having 3 starters. It's a decent sized portion and it was super tasty. Big chunks of lobster and some creamy mac & cheese - what could go wrong? Would order again but also looking forward to trying some of the other yummy sounding options next time. Drinks - As with the food, so many options! We both had the Fake Summer and let's just say it's a good thing that it's on draft because it was so good and refreshing and you will definitely be feeling good after. We are ready to make the bar at Scout our regular hangout spot during the week. Atmosphere - A great atmosphere indoor and out. It almost has a beach club vibe just without the beaches. My wife had a baby shower for our daughter at Scout! This was a perfect venue for the shower! When you don't remember what it cost because everyone had such a wonderful time that's successful! The owner was very accommodating and the wait staff was very friendly. We used to love this place and visited fairly frequently before we left the city in 2019. We were able to visit it last night and were excited to enjoy it again. Unfortunately it was nothing like we remember. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because I feel bad. It wasn't the waitstaff's fault, and my mocktail was ok. The pretzel bites were nearly half the portion they used to be, but taste about the same. Our salads were underwhelming, while somewhat ok. My partner's Caesar salad was on par with something you would get at a chain restaurant or from a bagged salad with some anchovies added. My beet salad was bizarrely missing any kind of acid flavor normally present in a vinaigrette, and was quite bland. The starters weren't off to a great start so to speak, so we were worried about how the entrees would fare. Well, the entrees turned out to be inedible. I can count on one hand the amount of times in my life I haven't finished my entree at a restaurant, and unfortunately this was one of those times. I have never seen a restaurant fall so hard from what it was. My stuffed salmon had an off flavor to an extent we didn't think it would be safe to consume. The stuffing was supposed to be cream cheese. If it was a blue cheese or something like that, it would've made more sense, but the salmon that didn't even touch the cheese had a fishy/yeasty taste...I hate wasting animal products, so not being able to eat this was very upsetting. The vegetables on the side were ok. My partner ordered the chicken entree and it was extremely dry, and presented smashed on the plate in a weird way. He said the puréed vegetables on the plate tasted like they were from a can. Oh, and the water was absolutely horrific. Tap water from restaurants usually isn't great, but this was possibly the worst tasting water I've ever been served at a restaurant. Please get a water filter or something....I was so thirsty and it was still undrinkable. We didn't complain because it seemed like the waitstaff were already having a bad night, and didn't see the point when there's really no way the restaurant could've fixed for us what is clearly a systemic problem. I really hope they can make some changes and pull it back together, but overall it was depressing to spend that much money to experience one of our favorite restaurants failing so spectacularly... read more

This is the worst experience I've ever dined at. The food was disgusting I ordered the steak, it smelled so bad, and it tasted as horrible as it looks: I had to return it and order another one, hoping that it's better. shrimp and grits. And when it came after a long time of waiting, I couldn't even eat it, when I tasted the grits, jt was bad, I couldn't swallow it, and I thought the shrimp is better and it's the same thing. I only just discovered this place the day before the global pandemic close down restaurants in Decatur. I was there that night, when they were told they would have to close the next day. I made sure to return the very first day they were open again after the pandemic. I have come to really love this place, the servers, the food, and the atmosphere! The five hour hanger steak is absolutely amazing. They just got a new chef this week, and she added Sriracha salmon bites to the menu. I'm so glad I tried them. What an exceptional New Year's Eve dinner! We are visiting family in Atlanta and celebrated NYE at Scout after a 2 day drive from Minnesota. The staff, cocktails and especially our server (whose name I failed to get) went above and beyond for two weary travelers. Cocktails, mock tails, wine and the most creative and delicious dishes made our night so special. We saw young guests, little girls all dressed up dining with their parents, older folks like ourselves having a wonderful time. At the far end guests were cheering their Bulldogs in a bowl game! I was concerned because the menu states American cheese, which I consider to be worse than worthless, but when I asked the cheerful, friendly server if they had any other cheese, he offered shredded cheddar, which I happily accepted. It's tucked away in one of those little neighborhood "squares" that I feel are unique to the south... The building looks like it used to be an old factory or school or who knows what with it's white washed boards and exposed steel beams... This is one of those neighborhood restaurants that's great for having a mature night out! No music so loud you have to shout to be heard. No screaming kids running around. The food is fresh and the drinks are creative... I've been there a few times with friends and even had a girl's night there and we had a wonderful time! Service was friendly and accommodating. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and were pretty disappointed. We arrived after the rush, maybe 1pm and most tables were empty or leaving by then. Service was a little slow, but the kitchen was glacially slow. Our table of 4 ordered at 1:30pm and our food did not arrive for 90 minutes. (Not an exaggeration, actually 90 minutes). The food was fine, but that kind of wait time in an otherwise uncrowded restaurant just really ruined the mood on a sunny Saturday. Maybe it was an off day? Maybe staff was out for some reason? If that's the case, then at least try to take care of your customers and acknowledge what's going on, cover a round of drinks, bring out something to snack on, etc. Dine at your own risk. The blackened shrimp couscous had a nice flavor to it and portion was good. The snapper was slightly tough, unsure if it was over cooked or previously frozen. I think the meals were all around impressive, and the waiter sealed the deal when she suggested the cookie dessert with a burnt marshmallow and ice cream top. it's on the sweeter side of course, but it was so so satisfying. the cookie is baked in the same cast iron skillet the shrimp dip comes in, and it was perfectly soft and crisp with a slight butter glaze at the bottom of the cookie. the drink were great, the food, and the atmosphere. my friends ordered the shrimp and grits, the burger, and the corn beef hash breakfast. all looked lovely, and they enjoyed it. though the burger my friend said seems more of a smash burger style, she would have preferred more of a medium burger with more bite. I think you truly can't go wrong with a cocktail and an appetizer here, granted that was my order. however, the waiter said they get a lot more traffic, though it was quite frequented for brunch even though the location is a bit more inconspicuous, during their dinner time. be aware that they do close the kitchen from 2:30-3:30 to prepare between brunch and dinner. This spot is somewhat tucked away in the Oakhurst village setting in Decatur. There is plenty of street parking and the space is nicely laid out for a clean, but semi-rustic yet modern look. Ordered the Griddled Salmon Burger with a side of Sauteed Broccoli Rabe and the Cast Iron Red Fish. The Salmon Burger was flavorful and the Griddled crust added a nice layer of crunch. The Cast Iron Red Fish was amazing! The fish was seasoned well and the crawfish chowder that the filet sat on was rich, creamy, and had a nice shellfish flavor. We also had 2 cocktails that were very refreshing and the Bread Pudding for dessert. Everything hit the mark and the service was good so I am looking forward to my return. read more

I think the beverage program is well developed and the mixologists must be very talented because the drinks are delicious (The old fashioned did not disappoint!) Was hoping for a little more creativity (garnish?) and once again...disappointed. Someone had told us they have "off" nights, perhaps this was one of them..? Honestly, very disappointing. My friends and I had gone to Scout in 2019 and it was great. I returned this weekend and unfortunately, now, I will not be back. Service was very slow, despite not being crowded and the food was not good. I ordered the chicken caesar wrap and it barely had any chicken. I was mostly just eating the tortilla wrap because it was so thick. My friend ordered the steak and eggs and it smelled like the steak had gone bad. Really a hidden gem in Decatur and glad I found it. Tried this place out for Sunday brunch. Everything was delicious. Blueberry pancake was fluffy. Crab cake was wonderful. Loved the picked side that came with it. Very nicely paired. Avocado deviled eggs were also very nice. Although service was a little slow, our server was very nice and courteous. I had the highest hopes for this place. We were so excited. We started off with a shrimp dip as an appetizer... it was was great. But they gave us 4 cracker... 4 for a dip. It was 2 of us. When we asked for more crackers or Possibly bread they came out with 3 tiny slices of a small baguette. The picture below was how much dip was left after the baguettes and crackers. The second time I came for brunch on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. It was not crowded at all and waited forever for our food. The waitstaff took a while to offer something for us. The food was horrible. The brussels sprouts were burnt, chewy and tough. The asparagus side dish and the strawberries in the salad were both shriveled and discolored. Husband's chicken was severely overcooked and dry, the broccolini was raw, and the carrot puree cold and nasty. The grouper was burned to a literal crisp, the sauce was tasteless, and the whole meal was pretty much inedible. BACKGROUND: Our first trip here was a solid 4.5 stars. Food was great service was charming but slow. Atmosphere is great. TODAY: we were the first to arrive at one minute before they opened. The appetizer (fried cauliflower) was delicious. 40 minutes after we arrived the charming waitress apologized for the wait and said half our order was ready and they were just waiting for the other half. I could see G's omelette under the lights. 5 minutes later a gentleman came over and apologized and said our food would be coming right up. That felt good but 10 minutes after that our food finally arrived. G's omelette was over cooked, possibly from over 20 minutes of waiting. But the omelette and the fries were inedibly salty. And I love salt. When my Baja arrived I was perplexed because I didn't see the pork/pastor. What I thought may have been a creamy mushroom was, in fact, pork so under-cooked it was glistening, dripping, pink in the middle. My poached eggs were still clear. They were apologetic, dismayed and paid for our drinks and appetizer (and obviously the inedibly, potentially unsafe food). We appreciated their sincerity and their service recovery. We left hungry having watched over 20 people get their meals. We may or may not be back. The 3 stars is a waited average. Today was a 2 star day even with the inedible food. read more

They have a high rating for good reason. We just moved to Kirkwood not too long ago, and this has quickly become our favorite restaurant in the area. I got the duck confit salad which was fantastic. My only critique was no fault of their own, I just was greedy and wanted more of the duck in my salad hah. It was still a generous portion. She ordered hollandaise on the side due to some dietary restrictions. It came on the eggs so she sent it back to be corrected. According to our receipt her name is Claire. Claire immediately comes over to find out "what she got wrong " (her words) . Friend followed up with explaining that she requested on the side because she doesn't do dairy. Claire proceeded to tell her that hollandaise is egg based with no dairy. My friend asks her to confirm with the kitchen. Kitchen said that it has butter. Duh!
