Almond crusted sea bass
Ken D.

A nice downtown SJ restaurant. Well appointed interior with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Relaxed and upscale ambiance. Service was good, food was prepared and delivered hot, water glasses perpetually filled. Food was good but a little pricey for quantity and quality. I'd come again for a special event, not likely for everyday dining. Parking is not available on the street, but there are a lot of close parking garages.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me? Maybe this is my fault for ordering the seabass twice and being disappointed both times. But also for nearly $50 you'd think they'd do better. I always crave the mashed potato's and cooked spinach that come with this dish so I risk it. The first time the seabass was dry and overcooked I chalked it up to being a difficult fish and a bad day. But this time not only was the fish rubbery dry but the almond coating was cooked in old oil adding an unpleasant flavor. It's not that they don't know how to cook fish, because my mother's scallops were cooked perfectly in a little citrus butter sauce. But it seems like they hate seabass. The free bread appetizer was a delicious warm fluffy sourdough with butter, redeeming the meal slightly. Logistics: - indoor and outdoor seating - limited street parking nearby but close to several paid public garages and the light rail - a few vegetarian options

We had a great dinner at Scott's Seafood! The seafood was fresh, flavorful, and nicely presented. It is a little pricey, but that's understandable for a downtown San Jose location. The dishes took a little longer than expected to come out, but the servers were excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We were celebrating a birthday, and the restaurant surprised us with a special sundae, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the celebration even more memorable. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely come back!

Scallops with risotto and vegetables

My daughters and I went there on the way to a candlelight concert. The hostess, Shelby, was so friendly and smiling at our entrance and complimented us on our attire. She was very welcoming. The restaurant was very lovely with an outside eating area that was nice. We chose to sit on the inside. Our server Jason was excellent! He served everything in precise order and was very professional and warm and kind. We started off with bread and cocktails. The bartender made them perfectly. My daughters tried the oysters Rockefeller for the first time and we all loved it. One of my daughters had the pasta with the sausage and she really liked it. The steak and the crab was well liked by my other daughter. I ordered the scallops with the risotto. I'm always reluctant to order scallops because I like them a certain way. I like them basically to perfection. I have to say, these were a little overcooked and I didn't really care for the pairing with risotto. That's just me though. It was a great dining experience mainly because of the people working there and the ambience. I would like to go there for lunch because they have lobster dogs and crabcakes that I'd like to try. I believe it's only on the lunch menu.

We, three friends, lunch each week at different, diverse and repeat favorites. We took the light rail which dropped us off across from the restaurant. From there began the magic. We were greeted by Mr. Kavoosi, the Assistant Manager, who seated us at a table perfect for people watching. Lalo came to welcome us and recognized us from many months ago. Our server, Carlos, was so personable and engaging while providing personalized and professional first class service. Cesar salad with salmon; oysters with magnificent Champagne vinaigrette and cocktail sauce; scrumptious linguine with clams with fresh French bread. Going back soon and often!

Risky option on Super Bowl weekend. No reservation and a party of two (coworker). No walk-in with a reasonable wait time but the bar top was available immediately. Lucky butt. Halibut selection was a great choice. Well prepared and good flavor. Would dine here again.

Came here for lunch as a big group and got seated in the back private area. Service was good! We were a big party and they were able to keep up with all the demands haha. I order the steak frites with a side cup of clam chowder. The clam chowder was yummy, and I really enjoyed the steak frites. I requested for medium rare, and some pieces were slightly more medium than medium rare, but it was still yummy. Got a creme brulee to finish off our meal. Their drinks were tasty too. I got the blueberry lemon drop, which was refreshing. The espresso martini was wonderful as well. Parking can be difficult, but there are paid lots near by and some street parking if you get lucky.

Nice seafood place next to convention center. Wasn't in the mood for seafood, but customer was. Service was as expected in high end place. Glad they had a burger and they did it right. Recommend it for anyone in the San Jose downtown area.

Scott's Seafood makes a strong first impression with its location alone--right downtown, steps from the VTA Light Rail, and easily walkable from hotels, bars, and plenty of other spots. It's big, polished, and clearly designed to handle crowds. I was surprised how empty it was, though that's likely because it was a Monday night. The food was good and the service attentive and professional. Some of the people in my group seemed more impressed than I was, though that may have been a bit of "business dinner enthusiasm." I'd return if the group wanted to, but I wouldn't be the one to push for it or go looking for an excuse to come back. Pricing is on the higher side, which is easy enough to shrug off when you're traveling on business, but if I lived nearby and was footing the bill, it might push the restaurant further down my personal list. Overall, Scott's Seafood is a solid option for a business dinner or if you're staying downtown and want a reliable choice--particularly if you need space, have a large group, or want something a bit more professional-looking.

Last night was a nightmare. I took my cousin out for dinner on her bachelorette night. I am familiar with Scott's in Sacramento (different ownership) so it felt like a little piece of home. Both my cousin & I were looking forward to all the vibes at Scott's. Unfortunately, the only vibes we caught was negative shade from our server. We didn't have a reservation, but they weren't very busy and the hostess was so nice...she sat us down immediately. Shortly after we were seated; an older woman with a messy bun, no makeup, and a horrible attitude, came up to greet us as our server. She didn't give her name...but immediately she asked us what type of water we wanted and if we were here for a show. Very short, very brute, and no invite for questions or feedback on the menu. It was off, but we let it slide. Then once she returned to pour our water...we were ready to order. She asked us for our drink order (pineapple mezcalita; very sweet with barely any alcohol), and after we told her what drinks we wanted...I mentioned "oh, we are also ready to order". That's when she abruptly said "No! No! No! Not right now. Give me some time" and immediately walked away. She left before we could even respond. She shushed us as if we were children. The worst part is she had no sense of remorse once she finally returned about 25 minutes later. The server came back finally ready to take our order and her attitude got worse with each interaction. After writing down our order (jumbo prawns, crab cakes, lobster bisque soup, and clam chowder) the server made a very rude remark...."oh, so no dinner....ok" then walked away snarky. At that point, my cousin and I were so confused and disappointed with our experience but we maintained our conversation and promised we would not let the server's negative energy bring us down. We asked for dessert menus, ordered crème brûlée then asked for our check. I gave my card to our server then she returned shortly afterwards and said very loudly..."do you have another card? This is declined"...I was so shocked and even more confused. When I tried to ask her a question about what happened, I was mid sentence and she walked away!!! She walked over to the hostess to talk about us. She pointed at us as if we were less than. It was terrible!!! I immediately proceeded to call my bank and double check the status of my card. They said everything was fine! No declined transactions were present on my account! I paid with cash just to be done with it and to limit interactions with our sorry excuse of a server. She never returned to our table, she only stared at us like we were less than. This is not the Scott's seafood that I'm used to. I'll never return here. The service falls so short, and no customer deserves to be treated like we were treated.

Janet P.

Great food, good wine, and excellent service. We've been here multiple times and are never disappointed. We had the filet and lamb chops. For appetizers, shrimp and fried cauliflower. No complaints about anything.

Scott's used to be one of my favorite seafood restaurants (was 5/5), but ive noticed a stead decline in the quality of the food and service ever since they moved from their rooftop location on Park Ave. The ambiance feels less refined, and the service was just okay. The food was alright, but the flavors didn't feel worthy of the price. The drinks used to be really good, but now taste sub par. There are better seafood restaurants to recommend in Santa Clara county.

Ahi Sashimi

Came to the new location of Scott's Seafood (shows we haven't been here in over 5 years), and it's still quaint. Smaller space and harder to find parking (if you don't want to pay $40 for the outdoor public parking). Greeted immediately by the hostess and seated right away. We had a great, friendly server who was good at talking with us, but knowing when to stop talking too. Food is still delish and you can never go wrong with their clam chowder. Oh and they still have a private dining area that seats about 65-70 people. They let us peek into the room because I was curious if they could still have private parties.

Anyway, I met up with some friends here last weekend and we had a reservation at Alter Ego. I guess it's technically 2 places with Still OG. I have to say, I have really fond memories of Original Gravity from back in the day (ah, the days of my youth...) so it's nice that it's still sort of around though.. technically completely different since there's no more craft beer or duck fat fries lol. We hung out at our table for the whole night, like 4 hours. We all ordered cocktails off the menu and later on ordered some stuff off the menu based on the bartender's suggestion. I first ordered a Calabrian Spritz from the menu which hit the spot for me. Personally, I am not a hard alcohol fan but I enjoy wine and fun lil cocktails that are slightly sweet/not super strong lol. So this drink was nice because it wasn't too sweet and had a lot of volume (I like just sipping on stuff in general and it sucks when you order a cocktail that's like 3 sips of liquid and the rest is ice). The next cocktail I ordered was off the menu and called Like This or That (I think). I think it was some sort of passionfruit + vodka mix and very delicious! We also ordered the cold soba noodles and fries. Fries were crinkle cut and nicely crispy, no complaints. Soba noodles were also good, though some component of it was really spicy, I think the cucumbers. Overall I had a good time here and look forward to coming back, though given how little I go out, who knows when that will be haha.

Fresh, balanced, and easily the highlight of the meal. Lobster Tagliatelle: Good, but stingy. The flavors worked, but hunting for lobster in a lobster pasta shouldn't be part of the experience. The two bites with actual meat were great; the rest was just pasta. Beet Risotto: The biggest disappointment. Maybe the concept was just too avant-garde for my palate, but the earthy beet and pungent goat cheese felt at odds rather than harmonious. Worth a visit for drinks and crudo to enjoy the atmosphere, but the rest of the menu left me wanting.

For drinks, my favorite is still probably the milk punch. Their regular drinks menu can sometimes be a little hard to go through since they use some pretty specific ingredients that you won't regularly encounter (like, what is RinQuinQuin from Luck of Lucien?) but they've always put their drinks in quadrants (adventurous, refreshing, comforting, spiritous) to give you a sense of where the drink will fall. The Halloween menu is a little bit more straightforward. Speaking of Halloween, their Halloween decor is super cool and definitely provides a spooky vibe! Drinks came in themed cups - I had to point the clown one to face the wall bc I don't need to keep looking at it lol. They check your bags on the way out (cup thefts?? A hidden gem for the food, wine, AND company…read more Goodtime Bar is one of those spots I'm always recommending to people before they even ask for recommendations. Any place can serve wine, but it's the food, atmosphere, and community that make Goodtime Bar always a good time. The menu has creative flavor combinations that make it fun to try a little bit of everything. The serving sizes vary from smaller bites to sharables, so it works out great. My favorites I order every single time are the tom yum bucatini, steak frites, and tostadas. As for other items I've tried: oysters are flavorful and thoughtfully put together. The crispy fingerling potatoes with seaweed mayo are criminally addicting. I think the chips and dip are made fresh in house so they have that great real potato texture and flavor. Pro tip: GET THE BREAD. Perhaps a secret menu item. An order comes with a few slices of perfectly toasted buttered bread. You'll want it to dip into the tom yum bucatini sauce. TBH it can be used for all the sauces... in the prawns is great. The chef is a master of sauce. And don't skip dessert! The creme brulee is my guilty pleasure at the end of the night, with a perfectly crisp, crackly sugar crust every time I've had it. The steak frites and a bottle of wine make for a perfect girls' night. There's a nice selection of wines at different price points, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. You can even taste their house wines before committing to a glass, which is a great as someone who doesn't know much about wine. The space works for different moods, too. Inside feels intimate and lively, with a fun buzz that adds to the atmosphere. Outside is lovely when you want open air while catching up with friends over food and wine. Disco ball nights inside are especially vibesy! One of my favorite things is the community here. Their Monday 6 PM run club brings together a welcoming crowd, and the post-run wine-glass offer is such a fun touch. It's a great way to meet people, and the friendly energy makes it easy to feel included even if you come solo. I've gone a couple times when time permits and everyone is sooooo friendly. All paces are welcomed and they have a few people appointed to help direct and make sure no one gets left behind. They also have options beyond wine, including a yuzu cocktail and nonalcoholic drinks like Hiyo. There's a few nearby downtown SJ lot with 90-minute free parking. TL;DR: Come for the food, stay for the wine, and leave loving this DTSJ hidden gem. Whether it's a girls' night, a necessary glass after work, or a Monday run-club meetup, Goodtime Bar is one of my favorite spots in SJ. Rightfully deserved my first Yelp food review.
