a wine store with boxes of wine
Alyssa R.

This place has to have some of the nicest staff of any independent wine shop I've been to. I called a few weeks ago inquiring about a bottle of wine after a Google search led me here and the guy I spoke to could not have been any nicer. He didn't have any in stock but did confirm that they do carry it. He even offered to track it down elsewhere in the borough. I didn't need it immediately so I waited a week until it was back in stock and then went down to the shop. Cozy and jam packed with all sorts of gorgeous bottles of red, white and rose. I asked about that bottle of Riesling I was searching for and they knew exactly where it was. i was in and out in about ten minutes but I think I'll be spending more and more time here in the future.

Arrived at Lucali for some supposedly incredible pizza, only to find out that they are BYOB. Solution: find nearest wine shop. That happened to be Scotto's. We rolled inside, asked the guy working for some red table wine. Following his recommendation, we grabbed a pair of Cali Shiraz, paid the man, and went to dinner. The wines were awesome and at exactly the price we wanted to pay (10 per). It saddens me that I won't be in Gowanus more often.. Because I would definitely go back. If you find yourself dry at Lucali, I suggest you do exactly what we did!

Scotto's is a wonderful liquor store (not just wine, as the name implies!). They stock a lot of products from local wineries and distilleries. This includes (but is definitely not limited to): Brooklyn Oenology, Breuckelen Gin, and whoever makes that Court Street wine). When we were there, one of the founders from Breuckelen Gin was in the back giving out samples of their gin, whiskey, and gin/whiskey blends. All delicious and worth trying if you're a fan of either type of liquor. he was super friendly, and it was a good environment for a tasting (though not a lot of room in the back). Other than that, the shop has a great selection of wine and gin. Though, I will say that their whiskey selection could use some help. Maybe I just overlooked it, but they really didn't have that much in the way of mid-top shelf bourbon. Worth going to if it's on your way or if you live nearby!

He is the best mixologist in NYC. He danced with lemon slices cutting through pours of clear liquids from heights. He tossed and shook, and was precise and caring. A true artist. David made our night. The only reason I would ever walk back into this place is to sit at the bar and let David mesmerize me. FOOD: Broccoli rabe was fresh, but I needed a steak knife to cut through it. It was very al dente. Not cut properly, which is to cut crosses in the stems. Salad was fresh and crisp, high quality fennel and greens. Lovely. Agnoletti was divine. Home made. Focaccia very good with subtle flavors and just the right crust. Olive oil, good. The front of house staff was lovely, two ladies, and a friendly guy. Super lovely. Treated us like friends. Also the busboys were all gentlemen. I loved them. They brushed crumbs off the table with panache. The only complaint is the waiter was robotic, and issued rule after rule. No smile. EX: It was a freezing night. We wanted to order appetizer's first, and have a chance to look at the menu. He couldn't do that. "I need the whole order." Then one of us wanted to order the pre fixe dinner. "You can't do that. You both have to order it." He was very cold, a robot. To enjoy ourselves, we had to push through the horrible treatment. Too bad for the waiter, when I asked about the special pasta, he butchered the pronunciation, giving me a soft pitch to teach him Italian. I blasted him. C'est la vie.

It has a 90s bar flair with about 4 booths, and 3 tables. Theres more seating in the back outdoor but it was closed, so its very spacious but was full bc of the holiday. I shared the mezcal mai tai which was super strong and tried my friends' tequila swizzle which was lighter. I then opted to get the apple sangaree, I highly recommend this drink it was too good. Happy hour is 4-7 Monday to Friday btw. You get a $1 off of drinks (normally $12-14) or $11 frozen, sangrias and daiquiris.

Nice little place, cool vibe good music , service was good as our waiter seemed attentive , prices are not terrible normal these days to have drinks coast about $12-14 . This place was good for enjoying some decent drinks, hanging back & just chilling with your friends.

I stopped by Brooklyn Burgers & Beer during a work trip to quell a burger craving. Menu looked…read morepromising but unfortunately it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. Let's start with the good - the service and ambiance were on point. I went on a Sunday evening around 7pm. It was busy inside, but since I was a solo diner I was seated immediately by the bar. The servers were friendly and attentive. Probably 3-4 different people checked in multiple times throughout the meal. Where I struggle is with the actual burger itself. As a non-resident New Yorker, for me $22.50 is a lot to spend on a burger and fries. It needs to rock my world at that price point. And it just didn't. I got the B&B Burger. The onion ring tasted like it had been refried a second time to make my burger. The bread was crumbly like it was on the verge of going stale. The actual beef patty itself was decent - good flavor. Usually I can overlook an okay burger if the fries are top notch, but these fries were under-seasoned and also 'just okay'. I also got a side of Chicken Tenders. These were good - no complaints here. I really wanted to like this spot, but not sure this would be a return visit for me.

My friend was as turned off as me due to what happened (read my previous review) and he headed for the proverbial "Hills". This left me solo and hungry. I started walking northwest knowing I'd find something pretty good. Low and behold Brooklyn Burger and Beer looked like just what I wanted, so I walked in, grabbed a stool at the bar and jumped into their menu. What a difference a 1/2 mile makes! This place was perfect and its menu was choke full of bargains and bonuses. This place was cute; I mean the bar was front and center and was very impressive but the table seating was charming too. Their lunch menu has a great "build your on burger" which i had a blast doing: Burger Cheddar Cheese Bacon Grilled onions Lettuce Tomato Mayo / BBQ con The service was exceptional, the ambience was very "Taverny [sic]" and my lunch was delicious!

As I said before, this is a community spot. Everyone here is relaxed, having a long, leisurely, European style meal. I had a small board, chef's choice. I requested a fromage board, but got a charcuterie board . . . and that's okay, as I was lucky enough to get some tasty prosciutto. The cheeses ranged from chunky and savory to creamy to tangy. Went great with the honey and French bread. Most menu cocktails are average, but there is an "off the menu" selection you can ask for (mostly bourbon based, owner/bar tender creations). I enjoyed working with my server to get try some more unique choices. Between the charcuterie board, the bourbon drinks, and the boeuf bourguignon, the meal was great. I will say the boeuf bourguignon wasn't quite as wowing as last time . . . no pearl onions or carrots . . . but still good. I'm pretty sure the menu has changed or is maybe smaller. But no matter . . . the mood and the welcoming atmosphere and lack of crowds makes up for this. I think I might return and try the French onion soup. I'm sure it's killer.

Our waitress came over to check on us numerous times throughout dinner. The foie gras was under seasoned and didn't taste like much of anything. Both the beef and chicken were very homey dishes but yet again, under seasoned. The mashed potatoes could use more butter and some salt in the food would've made all the difference. The place itself is pretty cute with a lot of local artwork. We probably won't be back
