Family and I had a week long vacation in Colorado, and one of our stops was in Aspen. Upon leaving Aspen we had to get gas and Basalt, CO was the closest town to Aspen, so I searched for food places in Basalt and found this local GEM on Yelp. We almost went to Glenwood Springs for breakfast (it's a bigger city with more options) but so glad I found Scottie's. This place was packed on a rainy/snowy early morning with regulars. We were greeted with the owners - super friendly and they made our food fresh and fast. We got 4 sandwiches and a burrito. Everything was AMAZING. It ended up being the best breakfast we had during our trip! Support local businesses and eat at Scottie's!

Fast, tasty sandwiches and specials catering to the working man. Scot is a friendly man who runs a small, neat place to grab a quick bite, a cup of coffee, read the local newspapers, and get back to work fast. Ranks high for being great at what it does. Gourmet sit-down? Go elsewhere! It's just a tiny hole-in-the-wall in an industrial park with lots of small businesses, snowmobile repair shop, that sort of thing. But for a quick breakfast before work or a bite at lunch break, it's marvelous.

Probably the best sandwich within 100 miles. The downvalley trucker is so good I have a hard time ordering anything else.

It is not even on the website for the Basalt location yet nor is it listed as of this writing on Yelp. People, please -- go to this restaurant. It was fantastic. I would like to share my 14 year-old daughter's comments on her entree, which are probably a little over the top, but reflect how much we all enjoyed the meal. She had the chicken schnitzel. "This is the best food I have ever had in a restaurant." "This is the best chicken I have ever had -- sorry mom." "This gives a whole new meaning to the word, 'chicken.' " I had the jager schnitzel (pork) with spaetzle. Very, very good. All of the schnitzels we ordered were very tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Spaetzle was delicious. The salads were good as well. I had a "Serbian salad" which at first glance would not seem like it would be much to crow about -- mostly cucumbers -- but somehow, with the heirloom tomatoes and dressing they used, also exceptionally good. Finally, we had the apple strudel. I've never met a strudel that I didn't like, but my wife, who is a bit more discriminating, thought it was one of the best she'd had -- light, buttery, not too heavy. My daughter does not like raisins or nuts in desserts. She said it was so good she didn't care that it had the two things she likes least in desserts in it. A couple of other comments. First, when you think German or Austrian food, you think "heavy." This food was not. It was delicious and satisfying but not heavy at all. Second, for the area, the prices are pretty good. $150 for three people with a la carte salads, entrees, and dessert. The service was great -- very prompt, very attentive, pleasant, but not overdoing. Ambience was nice, except for the fact that it was a little empty, which is a shame that must be rectified by diners in the area reading this review as soon as possible. Finally, not drinking these days, but the beer and wine menus looked pretty darned good. (Which I guess you would expect in a good Austrian restaurant, but at least you know they checked that box as well). Simple, perfectly executed menu, family friendly, not too expensive, light and satisfying Austrian food. Go.

It was also my first time trying Ethiopian influenced food, and it felt like a great introduction. The dish had warmth, depth, and a kind of layered spice profile that felt both new and comforting at the same time. There is a sweet deck attached for eating outside, which we took advantage of the first time we went. The restaurant interior is just as charming, very clean and modern aesthetic, offering a lovely place to eat. The menu is fresh and wholesome ingredients. We got the same things both times, the Thai noodle salad and the tomato soup - both to die for !! So good. The second time we went we also got a cappuccino, which we regret not getting the first time. The staff is welcoming and super nice, the service was extremely fast and each time we were very well taken care of. We found out that Mawas is a Michelin guide restaurant which is hugely notable on how good this place is. You definitely won't regret going to Mawas kitchen.

I don't write many reviews, but came to yelp to read others to see if I was out of my mind or not…read more First and foremost, the place is awesome looking (in Glenwood Springs) so we had to check it out. The minute we walked in, I thought it looked awesome. Lots of random shirts, hats, socks, etc for sale and a decently long line of people waiting for their sugar fix. Sarcasm was flowing from a few of the guys at the register and taking orders, which was also a great thing. As I'm standing in line waiting to order, I'm checking out the random socks. They look cool, but a little odd that there was no price. No big deal, I'm just looking, not buying. But still odd... A guy takes our order (5 people total), again with sarcasm on point. Definitely a place I'd hang out. Breakfast sandwiches for all of us. 3 coffees. 4 bottles of water. ...and of course we had to get a half-dozen doughnuts to sample the different flavors. Can't wait to try everything. Then... The total came to just over $140. One hundred forty dollars! Huh? How? What? The food was good. Everyone liked their breakfast sandwiches. The doughnuts were delicious. I was told the coffees were decent. So if it wasn't for the mind-boggling price I paid, I'd definitely go back, but factoring in the price, on principle alone, I just can't justify it.
