I was excited when I took my car in because I was recommended by one of their friends. They charged me $80 to diagnose the problem. They charged me $648 for labor, to put in an alternator and belt. After the repairs, the alternator was over charging. They wrongly connected the wires. They wanted $1900 to do the job over. They were not customer service savy. It looks like they cater for certain types of customers. Very rude when you ask a question. Don't take your car to Scotties for any major repairs. Tire and oil change are their specialty. read more

This is for the Scotti Muffler location located in Dover, DE, on US-13. I have a suspicion that they look at customer's ethnicity, grooming, gender and size you up and then decide how much to charge. Case in point. Smiling Asian guy dressed well with Caucasian wife walks in, with a cute baby, and the price for a simple alternator replacement (with remanufactured, not brand new) was $737. Breakdown. $300+ for a remanufactured (i.e. used) alternator. '01 Nissan Xterra V6. AutoZone has brand new for $200 ish. Labor: $200ish. Diagnostic Fee, $100ish. I came in telling them the car doesn't charge, please change the alternator. They changed the alternator. $100 to diagnose?? I know, that doesn't add up to $737. That's because there's another line item, CHARGE BATTERY: $137 really? seriously? They put the battery on charger. $137. Grand total $737. For an alternator change on an old truck nothing else. My father took his vintage 1984 Porshe 944 to this place to have his muffler replaced and while it was there the back drivers side bumper was damaged (as seen in the pictures attached). They never contacted my dad when it happened or said anything to him about it while it was being worked on. When my father went to pick it up, he saw the bumper and asked the manager about it. The manager said, "that must've been there before you brought it here". Really dude? It's a freaking vintage car! Rarely driven! Smh, so basically these people did not want to take responsibility for their employees damaging a car in their care. Don't patronize them! Took my 2010 mariner here to be looked at. AC would turn on but wasn't cool. They said I had a clogged system and suggested replacing the whole thing ($1800) Had my friend look at the car. The cold air blower (?) wasn't even on so he was confused as to why they said it was clogged when it wasn't even running... anyways. 60$ can of freon and a fuse and my AC is back working. Long time affiliation with this place, take my word, go elsewhere. Ever since the place received "new management" it's been going downhill quick and bridges are being burnt. Ask around about the retention rate, most people (especially POC) are being fired and some just leave because of the "managers" popularity contest. Rates have gone through the roof in the last two years, along with the cost of parts in which most are sourced from your local Autozones but doubled and tripled in price through the business. Customer returns are frequent due to newer techs constantly dropping the ball. Scottis used to be a place of high standards and value before 2019/2020. A place that you could leave your vehicle at all day and return to it knowing it was done the right way with quality parts. Sadly that type of shop no longer exists. P.S. if you do get your car worked on there and it isn't done right, they'll write you a check back if you raise hell read more

Used to work here and some of the techs are super lazy, one of the techs (John) did an AC service on the owners truck and vented the refrigerent into the atmosphere which is illegal. Most technicians even spoke bad about customers when they aren't around, also some of the guys upfront would constantly hit on and talk nasty about women when they weren't around or when they were walking out! Disgusting in my opinion, I also had the exhaust guy do some work on my car and not even a year later the piping is all rusty and looks like garbage, they use very cheap exhaust piping regardless if it's stainless steel or not. I brought my car here to fix an issue with the cooling system. They pressure tested it, and figured it was worn out gaskets. So they replaced all the gaskets and charged me. No problem. Until a week later and all of the coolant drained out. So I brought it in again. They diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and replaced it along with the timing belt. So I picked up my car and was heading to work when my steering wheel starting violently shaking. When putting my front tire back on they failed to tighten my lug nuts. And to top it off, my cooling system is still leaking. I will not be going back here and recommend you do the same. read more

I had a 9am appt to get a diagnosis done.i gave them the code and said I would wait..Chuck the Owner told me that it would be an hour..a hour and a half later I asked about my van..Chris said he called me twenty minutes pior and the order did not say I was a waiter..all they did in this time was check for a code which only takes 2 minutes. .He was so rude to me then said I had to wait another hour to get the diagnosis done..and still charged me the full amount..three other customers was there and was in disbelief of what just happened. Excellent shop and more importantly very honest. I brought a vehicle that I loved and took care of very well (250K miles) and got my monies worth out of said vehicle. It failed state inspection for a number of O2 sensor and emissions codes. They got me in fairly quickly and called back with a diagnosis only a few hours later. Diagnostic work up showed over $2,600 worth of parts and repair. I did not expect that and it was suggested it was basically time to move on from said vehicle all things considered mileage and money to be put in for repair. I ended up getting a new vehicle a couple hours later but I feel compelled to leave a review because the whole staff was very helpful and resourceful. had a cat installed about 5 weeks back and come to find out it had failed, I brought it in, in hopes of getting it replaced free of charge then they come up with bs excuse that my car had a misfire, turbo incorrect flow and secondary air injection incorrect flow, my vehicle had none of these codes present before I brought it in and then to top it all of they drilled holes into my existing exhaust to perform a "diagnostic test" to test back pressure. read more

I had a tail pipe that came off my C-Converter that needed to be reattached because the 3 bolts holding it rusted/broke off. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Especially individuals who own a hot rod or performance car. First, I was way overcharged for the "work" that they did. In addition to that, I wrote down my mileage before dropping it off. The day I went to pick up my car there was an unreasonable amount of miles put on my car. There was no reason why they needed to drive the car. And last but not least, my dad witnessed one of the employees drive a muscle car down the road that was on the lift when we arrived. He got on it a couple of times and almost hit another car. I took my car here for the first time recommended by Jiffy Lube. I should have known better. Why didn't I take my car to where I usually get it serviced? I know better next time. The problem I had was my serpentine belt was warped. So I had them replace it. What happened next is unbelievable. After work I started up my car and it had this long and squeeching noice belting out! I was in shocked because my car never made a sound like that. The next day I contacted their office and they told me to wait until a week and if it continues to make that noise bring it in. Well, after a week of embarassment, I took my car back and they couldn't find anyting wrong with it except a rusted nut that could be causing this problem. I was so upset with them after paying $120 to have them install the belt that they didn't try hard enough or waited long enough until the noise would resurface. So I took my car to GoodYear and within two hours they adjusted the belts (serpentine and alternator) and I haven't had a problem since. The mortal to my story is I should have took it to them the first place. If you want drama in your life take it to Scotti but if you want your money worth take it to Good Year!!! read more

My experience is similar to the other reviewer Ray. I have gone to Scotti for years for all the repairs on my 2 cars. I usually deal with Fred or Chuck, and they were both great. They didn't mind answering my questions or trying to save me money. Recently when taking my car in for work, I have had the unpleasant experience of dealing with Chris. He can get very rude, especially when I asked questions about parts pricing ( they marked up a part 80% compared to what i could have gotten the part for at the SAME place they got it from) or like the other reviewer, bringing in my own parts. In this economy, customers want to save money and get honest trustworthy repairs with pleasant service. I no longer feel that Scotti does that after my last experience and I hope I can find another shop that is as honest as Scotti USED to be as I will no longer go there or recommend anyone else go there either. read more
