The Deets: I've enjoyed several visits to Drift Coffee in many years past during OIB beach trips (yep, there's a past review). I was glad to see they have locations in NC Triangle now so I visited the one nearest me in Durham, just off I-40/Davis Drive/Hwy 54 in the Horseshoe at Hub RTP (dining/retail/office/etc. complex). They do not have dedicated parking but there is a parking deck for Horseshoe directly across the street so still pretty convenient. This location is very nicely decorated inside and outside with seating areas in both. Inside is a very bright, welcoming, and comfortable aesthetic with a variety of seating options available. You walk up to order with the staff member, and my service here at the counter was both very pleasant and helpful. They call your name to pick up your order at the counter when ready. I chose a hot latte (they do not offer skim but have 2% available) and then an avocado, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich for my morning meal. My latte was about as close to perfect as I could imagine. My sandwich hit the spot also, with it being a bit more than the average type of breakfast but keeping it simple (which is how I like breakfast). The brioche bun was a bit more without going overboard (some buns are just too extra to enjoy, this one, just right). The scrambled egg, avocado, and sharp cheddar along with the roasted tomato jam came together nicely, it was delicious and just what I needed (I skipped the chili mayo this go around). I'm going to pause here to note that I had an extremely long wait for my sandwich to be completed (I was almost ready to check to see if I had been forgotten), so much so I considered 4 stars...however it appears to be a glitch for around my time there and from what I could see was resolved for other people later, or so it appeared to me (it got busy quick, I came at the right time). I'm going to stick with 5 stars regardless, as the coffee shop decor, food, beverage, counter service pleasant attitude, pretty much everything else was awesome which I would expect knowing Drift Coffee at their OIB location.

It's Very Heavy on the hibiscus tea, which is all I could taste, in spite of lemongrass, peppermint, orange peel, and cacaco nibs being in it too. I had some honey added, but that wasn't enough to temper the tartness so added some sugar, which only had a little effect. It wasn't until I added some half and half that it became better. That's my taste buds. Anyone else's may be different, but with or without the cream, it's a very pretty drink. We brought the cinnamon roll home to have later, but it smells divine. BTW, I love the small tables. Colorful and very intricately painted.

I was a little frustrated with how long it took to get my order - I'm pretty sure it was at least 10 minutes. The pastry sounded good in theory but it actually didn't taste super great, unfortunately. Later, I ordered an iced matcha tea latte and it was pretty darn good. Everything was a little expensive but I kind of expected that :) There are some outlets along one of the walls so you can plug in your laptop, which is nice. Overall, I'd consider coming back here to grab a coffee and do some work, but I'd recommend people be patient since the orders may take a while to come out.

Very good environment for meeting friends, hanging out, or even getting some work done.
