There's an upstairs loft and a mix of seating downstairs. Prices are fair for the quality. Latte $4.50-5.75, mocha and chai in the same range, drip from $2.50. Flavor shots are $0.50 (rosemary brown sugar and toasted coconut stood out). The grab-and-go case is well stocked with sandwiches, fruit and cheese cups, overnight oats, granola, and Nitro cold brew if you need it to go. Food menu covers biscuit sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and the Van Gogh Wich. Small gripes: it's hot only on several drinks (pour over, espresso, cortado, cappuccino), so know that going in, and no pets allowed. Summer menu had some fun seasonal stuff--iced prismatic with cherry cinnamon apple. I got an orange blossom matcha latte and I'd say it was decent. The orange blossom syrup was very mild so I could taste it very well. The matcha wasn't very strong and a little overpowered with milk. I didn't try any of their coffees but they looked to be pretty good! I'd give it a 3/5 for the matcha because it was decent but I don't think I'd order it again. I have come into Joe Van Gogh multiple times, and although I like their drinks, I don't love the ambiance. The restaurant could do a better job at positioning their tables in the space to allow for more patrons to do work (and have access to outlets) without being in the way of those queuing in line for ordering. I have sat here and read a book before, and despite liking my drink, I did not love that I felt "in the way" of others. I also think the bathrooms could be a little more well maintained. However, I do enjoy both the matcha and coffee here, and think that this shop around the Triangle does coffee extremely well. The baristas are knowledgable and can provide insight into various menu options, and are also extremely kind. I will likely be back but just for a grab-and-go coffee. read more

Ok, this is officially some of the best coffee I've had in Durham. I got the maple cinnamon latte hot, which is seasonal, and it was delicious. The flavor profiles of both maple and cinnamon were present, but not overpowering; it also had the perfect amount of sweetness. There's plenty of free street parking. Service & ambiance are great. The coffee itself is fine. The space is very small, but it works as a study space if it's not busy. The prices are very high for what you get. We ordered a double espresso and received a single shot of espresso. It was evident it was only one shot and when we asked the very rude barista said that it's one... the barista also refused to be helpful when people didn't hear them above their mask. The best lattes I've ever had. Full disclosure, I am not a coffee connoisseur. However, I do know the difference between a stellar and awful latte. I decided to try this cafe after discovering how good there whole beans are while shopping at Weaver St Market. I also needed a place to work. I started with the breakfast burrito, which was pretty good, and the 12 oz latte with 2% and sugar free caramel. Wow!! Later that afternoon I tried one of their scones and another latte with cinnamon/maple sugar. It was the perfect combination and the latte was just as good as the first. I thought it might be the same barista as in the morning, but there was a shift change. So it must be the beans used? Also, the latte art was a nice touch. OMG the cold brew with chocolate milk is THE BEST combination my lil tongue has ever tasted! My tastebuds were having a literal blast. The coffee shop itself is cute af. Although it is to-go on for now, the outside seating is nice. Also, it's only ONE person allowed inside at all times, so make sure to have someone take everyone's orders and go in, or go in rotations. I went to JVG for the first time today for a quick breakfast with friends. Though I have no complaints about the coffee and will definitely be back for more specialty drinks, the breakfast burrito I had was just not great. It didn't taste fresh and was a bit soggy- the salsa on the side was the best part. Though I wouldn't order it again, my friend gave me a bite of the Earl grey scone and that was just divine, so maybe I'll get that next time. read more

The only downside to this location as many great coffee shops have is parking and seating! There is free parking in front and on the side of the building. But when you do find a parking spot, the challenge of finding a table to yourself will be challenging. I feel like alot of people end up sharing because there are just a limited amount of space. Joe Van Gogh roasts their own beans in house (which you can also buy in the shop) and they're delicious! I am hands down a fan of their black coffee, but they typically have interesting coffee add-ons and syrups (most recently I noticed a rosemary flavoring). It's typically not difficult to find a spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and get some work done. This is much more a work-centered shop than a socializing spot, but you can regularly expect a line to order your drink of choice. read more
