The lady who works the cash register on Saturdays, is really nice and works really hard. I like getting a cheese burger usually. And my kids like the cheeseburgers here too, and oddly enough, the tacos are yummy. We also share orders of onion rings, French fries, or chips with cheese. It's always clean. It is never fun not getting what you ordered and finding that out when you get back to work. I read another review before I went where the person ordered chili cheese fries, but got regular fries. So when I ordered the chili cheese fries, I thought I was speaking clearly enough. But I was not. If you order the chili cheese fires, look the person taking the order in the eyes, pause and slowly say chhhilllliiiiiiii chhheeeeeeessse fries. Say fries fast so the emphases is on the part that makes the fries good. I am not impressed by their plan fries. The hot dog I ordered came as I ordered it, mustard only. Had a serious milkshake craving so decided to swing by and try this place out! I wasn't disappointed. They had so many flavors it was almost overwhelming. He place isn't too busy so you never wait on long lines l. The prices are very fair too, about $4 for a medium milkshake and roughly the same for. A burrito. Their meal combos are pretty good too: burger fries and a drink. I got a milkshake here: the blueberry milkshake, and it was the best milkshake I had in Reno so far. Just what you would want in an order of fries. I did have to add a little salt to mine to get it to my liking but overall not bad. The Bull's Eye burger was delicious. This place is great. If you grew up eating in diners and dairy bars this place is for you. Does it match up to some burgers in town that are $18 for a burger? Nope, but its close for 1/2 the price, and what it does deliver is the best classic diner feel in Reno with food that matches that expectation. Burgers are great - I prefer the double (1/3rd lb) over the 1/2 lb burgers, feels like a better ratio of condiments to meat. Best kept secret on their menu. Fries are a better version of those served at a place known for a giant golden M, just add some of your own salt. Skip the onion rings. Milkshakes are the best in town, hands down. Scooper's is unapologetically a place for comfort food. With their take on the old style drive-in or diner style, the menu certainly reflects the sort fare that generations of American have enjoyed. Burgers, fries, shakes, dogs and assorted other things. You enter, and you immediately know things are gonna be good no matter what you order. Their shakes are just fantastic, and there is a great selection of flavors you can mix and match. I particularly enjoy a nice cherry malt, especially on a hot summer day. For beverages, they also have fountain drinks and a selection of more niche bottled sodas for sale. The burgers are good, fries ok, but the menu items that stick out the most to me are the deep-fried hot dogs, especially the locally famous (or infamous) Mighty Mike. If I could rate individual menu items, it would easily get six stars! This monster of a dog, filled with cheese, wrapped in bacon and deep fried, is a gut bomb pure and simple. You almost feel your arteries hardening just by looking at it. After eating one, you experience what I can only describe as a 'hurts-so-good' sort of feeling as you slip inexorably into a food coma. If I'm found dead of an infarction, it'll likely be with one of these grasped in my hands with the words "No Regrets" scrawled in mustard on the floor beside me. Suffice to say, I really love this thing. But I digress... The Kietzke location has plenty of parking, is well maintained, and I like the various old drink posters festooning the walls inside. The staff are very nice, and service is quick, although obviously expect some delays during the lunch rush. I think the prices are very reasonable given the good quality. 1st time here and possibly my last. It's not a knock on the employees, service was good and prompt. The food was bland to put it mildly. I had the Al Burger, three paddies of tasteless meat on a sweet bun and brown lettuce. I tried their pastrami ( wife order) and the meat had no flavor whatsoever. Maybe this was an off day or maybe I expected too much. But for me, I'll have to think hard if want to come back. Maybe I'll pass in their burgers and try their " world famous " milkshake. We unknowingly walked in about 15 minutes before closing, which we found out about by asking if we could get our desserts once we finished our food. The cashier pretty much told us no because they were closing soon so we felt unwelcome to sit down and eat there. They mentioned it to the few people that came in and ordered after us too, so clearly they were trying to make it known. They locked us out the exact moment we exited the building, which is fine but if I were trying to give good customer service, I wouldn't want to make my customers feel so rushed to get out. We tried the Drive-in Scoopers before this one (thankfully) and the food is just way better at that location. I think they rushed our food and didn't cook it properly. The onion rings had zero salt and were totally bland. The fries weren't fresh. We're glad we know now to just visit the other location when we want Scoopers. read more

First off... the food is AMAZING! Hot dogs are flavorful, fresh, juicy and delicious! French fries were crisp and hot, onion rings were too. The reason this gets a 4 star is because we are from CA and came here on vacation and decided to come here based on yelp reviews. When I come from out of state to give my business to a small place I expect top notch customer service. Instead I got a teenagers condescension. At first I ordered and forgot I had checked in to yelp. I asked if he would correct my receipt to show the 20% off and he didn't even try. He told me he already rung it up and I can use it next time... what next time?! I'm from out of state. Ok, fine... let's move forward. When I received our order I needed ketchup, there was a dispenser by the soda machine, it wasn't labeled but I'm not stupid so I tried it and it didn't work. I went up to the counter and asked for ketchup and mustard and the kid (confirmed 18y/o) got smart with me. He said 'the ketchups in the pump over there' with the most sarcastic tone he could have possibly used. HELLO! I just tried the pump and it didn't work! So he walks over and has to pump the dispenser at least 10xs to make the ketchup work. He then proceeded to get a lecture about how condescending he has been and instead of apologizing tells me he's the 'best one there.' I hate to see anyone else who works there if he's the best! There wasn't anyone around for comparison so I'm afraid... Bottom line... GREAT FOOD... but the cashier needs to get his attitude together. The other son of Mike came to my store and I was able to share my experience. He runs the Kietzke Scoopers. He was very sympathetic and apologetic. I will now do my business at Kietzke Scoopers. My girls and I get milkshakes here all the time. Well we were down south and decided to have dinner. Had a coupon buy a double cheese burger get one free. So that's what my husband and I ordered. He also ordered a corn dog. The kids ordered 2 more burgers and a hot dog. Once the food was finished the corn dog was burnt so badly on the end it crumbled. Since this was my husbands he moved on to his burger while they cooked him a new one. He opened the burger and the bottom bun was frozen. So I took it back up there said the bun is frozen. The girls said sorry papa he said I will never come here again. A restaurant that doesn't care about their food will not get my business. Our son said my bun iis frozen also. I'm just to hungry not to eat. They brought out his food and the bottom of this hamburger bun was frozen also. They need a new cook!!! This bit of "news" generated much debate amongst pundits and social media mavens, but I doubt this declaration will dampen America's appetite for burgers and bacon. In a fate-tempting coincidence, I and some family members visited the newly opened Scooper's restaurant on the same day the news broke. We're thrill seekers that way. Scooper's original Sparks drive-in location has been a family favorite for decades, renowned for its award-winning milkshakes and made-to-order burgers. The new Reno location lacks the drive-in aspect, but there's plenty of seating in its large dining room. The place filled up pretty quick during our dinner-hour visit, striking for a place that had opened just days earlier. The menu includes a variety of burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, tacos, burritos, and deep-fried sides. All burgers feature fresh ground beef, special sauce, tomato, pickles, chopped onion, and lettuce. Similarly the dogs are all-beef and come with a variety of toppings. But there is one item I knew I had to order, if only because the description sounded like something you'd eat on a dare. The Mighty Mike ($5.19) is a ¼ pound hotdog stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, and then in the defiance of all that is healthy they deep-fry that nutritionist's nightmare and serve it on a bun loaded with chopped onion, yellow mustard, and mayonnaise. If you ate like this every day I'm pretty sure the heart attack would get you before the cancer kicked in. Having said that, it was pretty freakin' delicious. Even my health-conscious wife agreed it tastes far better than it sounds. Moving over to the burger menu we sampled a Pastrami burger ($6.99), comprised of a ¼ pound beef patty topped with a ¼ pound pile of grilled pastrami and Swiss cheese. It was a little tricky to hang onto and almost juicy to a fault. The burger meat didn't taste of any particular seasoning other than perhaps a little salt, but the pastrami was nice and lean and the overall sandwich was pretty satisfying. The Matterhorn burger was less drippy but no less enjoyable ($6.99), sporting a 1/2 pound of beef topped with Swiss cheese and plenty of thick-cut bacon. Most bacon served on fast food burgers is shipped pre-cooked and sliced so thin there's really no reason to bother with it. The bacon on this burger was probably the best I've tasted on a non-gourmet burger for under $10. Fries ($2.29 lg), onion rings ($2.89 lg), and nacho chips with cheese ($2.49) were shared by all at the table. With these items the freshness aspect is lacking, as the rings, fries, and chips clearly came from a bag and the nacho cheese from a can. I lost my taste for frozen, minced onion rings years ago after discovering fresh onions dunked in beer batter. Luckily my six year-old niece was more than happy to take up the slack; I'm pretty sure she ate most of them. Aside from fries and rings, the girl demonstrated there's more than one way to eat a corn dog ($1.69). Rather than starting at one end like a banana, she attacks it right in the middle and continues as you might eat corn-on-the-cob. Like the other fried items this dog appeared to have come from the freezer, but the hungry kindergartner declared, "This place has really good food." But what about the award-winning shakes? They are indeed deserving of praise, featuring nearly fifty flavors including fruits, candies, and some that make my teeth hurt just thinking about them ($2.69 sm, $4.49 lg). Colin Richards has been doing this a long time and it shows. I walked in at about 2:00pm with five or six people in front of me and in just a few moments I was next in line. I ordered the pastrami burger, small onion rings and a drink. After a quick chat with Colin, I took a seat and waited for my food. The people kept rolling in and the food kept rolling out. When my lunch arrived it was clearly just off the grill, cheese melting out and the aroma of an almost still cooking burger filled the air. A juicy burger, great rings and friendly service is why I go to Scoopers, and that was what I got today. I'm so glad we finally got a casual but good burger joint on the south end of town. I have been to this Scooper's Location twice. The first time I had the pastrami burger with onion rings and a drink. It was fabulous. Most recently (since it was Tuesday) I had the Taco special. 2 supreme tacos that have cheese, tomatoes, sour cream (not for me) and lettuce with fries and a drink. The tacos were hot, the shells freshly fried and they were HUGE. The lady is always nice at the counter and quite welcoming. They have an amazing array of drinks and their daily specials are great.
