This is an enclosed building with probably close to a hundred people in it where you stand in line for a long time. No ice cream is worth dying for and we don't want to make loved ones sick. If nothing else is going on in town there's always activity and a lot of people in the ice cream shop so Scooper's. It's always a treat, the servers have a lot of patience considering the amount of business they handle daily, The quality of the ice cream and the choices of a many. They are of course are sherbets and there are the daintier flavors all the way to deep dark chocolate, licorice, bubble gum, pistachio, peppermint and my personal favorit.e marionberry cheesecake. When you're done with your ice cream which you may have seated inside or outside preferably on the very comfortable and large porch you're welcome to come in and look at the little gift shop. We stopped in for ice cream after some fishing and this was a very cute little store with way more than just ice cream. There was an array of tea options, fudge and other chocolate deserts as well as some very old school candies. We enjoyed looking around and the ice cream was good. On 'national small business day' it was fun to run into the owner of this Long Beach grocery/sweet shop and hear about the challenges of running a small business in this area. They are now up to 64 flavors of ice cream in addition to all sorts of other sweets. The kids both give the ice cream thumbs up. Part of the store is a market, so you can pick up coffee and other items for your beach visit. Staff was warm and friendly and it was a sweet escape on the Washington coast. read more

I am writing this while waiting in line to get ice cream after we already paid. It's been twenty five minutes and still waiting. There is a long line behind me, but since it is 9:20 and they close at 10, 3 out of the five staff I see are doing clean up so they can leave. It was ok. Typical ice cream Shop but the ordering system Needs a ton of work. The lines were sooo long. Took us over a half hour to order ice cream. You tell cashier what size and pay then go down the line and look for what you want and ask someone else. 3 different people help you out I guess but the manager down there wasn't helping to get the line down. If your looking for quick service skip this place. Millennials don't seem to have that customer service down to work with people fast. And I'm no millennial. The flavors were decent. Awful customer service. I don't mind waiting, I don't mind being busy and having large orders, but when teenage kids are just screwing around with a backlog of over 50 customers, about 20 whom have already paid for ice cream with their said "pre-pay" policy, it's ridiculous. Teenage boy using profanity is very unprofessional, carrying on personal conversations instead of working, etc, not to mention there is one elderly lady there who was "cleaning" and literally rinsed out a rag 20x to avoid scooping ice cream with a very long line. I asked the young teen boy working if customer service was high priority for them, and he began to tell me how he has worked a long 10 hour day and must clock out at a certain time, and he had this, this and this to do before he clocked out.... and therefore he couldn't help me... um,.. I don't care. I paid for my ice cream, give me my ice cream. Management here needs to step up and focus on customer service. Run straight by this place. If you want good ice cream, THIS is not the place to go. After a wait in a short line, I was helped by cheerful young people that were honest the ice cream isn't made there. You can't even sample a flavor you're interested in. When you come to Long Beach, there are some things you do. Fly a kite, build a sandcastle or watch them be built during Sandsations and get ice cream at Scoopers. That last one might have to change. Saturday night, 9pm during Sandsations the line is to the door. 3 people working the ice cream counter and it was 35 minutes to the register. Then another 15 to get my order. We had 7 people with us and I had prepared them ahead of time to tell the gal what they wanted since the place was packed. Several people in line behind us had expressions on their faces like, "what did we just get ourselves into?". We laughed about it later but it felt like the Seinfeld episode of the Soup Nazi. It was crazy! I am all about efficiency in ordering but come on! I don't need my arse kissed but a little courtesy since I am supporting your business maybe? Let me also reiterate that we were not standing there scratching our heads, we were ready to order. A different gal who scooped our ice cream was efficient, not necessarily nice, but she didn't yell at us and apparently at this place, that is all you should aim for. Also note they DO NOT ALLOW you to use their restrooms - so make sure you wash your hands before you come and use the facilities elsewhere. We ended up at Scoopers both nights of our Long Beach weekend. What can I say -- there's just not that much going on in the evenings, especially if you don't want to spend any more time in your hotel room than you have to. It does seem like the entire population, locals and tourists, ends up there on nice evenings, though, so we weren't alone! Depending on which sign you read, they have 37-45 ice cream flavors on offer at any given time, more than enough for everyone to find something. In addition to the standard flavors, they have the horrifying fluorescent kid-friendly ones and some interesting and unique options, like caramel macadamia froyo (my favorite) or black licorice (it's jet-black!). Portions are huge and I was amazed by how many people ordered 2- or 3-scoop waffle cones -- a single scoop sugar cone is plenty. The ordering process is a little odd, but here's how it works: you get in the long line to pay for your orders first, and you get a number on your receipt. After that, there is no line, and you can browse up and down the glass cases to your heart's content while waiting for your number to be called. So jump in line right away, and know that you will have puh-lenty of time to agonize about your flavor(s) before you have to decide. Several reviewers commented about rude service, but based on our visits, it seemed to be mainly one older woman who was grumpy and brusque. Mostly it was staffed by teenage girls who were friendly and helpful, even if you asked for multiple samples before committing. In addition to the ice cream counter, they have a sort of gross-looking cafeteria (closed when we were there in the evenings) and a convenience-store selection of candy, salty snacks, beer, and boozy energy drinks. If you ever wondered where the world's supply of 4Loko and Sparks ended up, here it is! Oh, they also have sweatshirts and some Long Beach souvenir items in the front, too. I am pretty frustrated with Scoopers. It used to be my favorite stop at the beach. But after my second time being irritated we won't be back. There needs to be a better system for the ice cream, or more people scooping. The line wasn't even very long this last time and it still took 45min to get my ice cream. The worst part was I wanted waffle bowls, verified they had them, paid for my order $25 worth of ice cream, then when my number was called there weren't anymore waffle bowls. Now I know what you're thinking. Get a grip, it's just a waffle bowl. But here's the deal. I ordered 2 double scoop bowls, and scoopers scoops are huge! They don't fit in anything else. So here I'm stuck. There's an even longer line behind me now and I'm being offered a waffle cone that only holds one scoop if you're planning on not wearing the rest. So I took the waffle cones and tried to be a sport about it, but just as I thought. I couldn't eat it. It ended up making too big of a mess and I had to toss it. I realize I should've just asked for a refund for one of the scoops but that brings me to my next issue. I wish I got her name. But there's the same grey haired lady with the ponytail every time I go. She is probably the owner, but she needs to take some customer service and manager classes. Lord Have Mercy! That woman was barking at the kids scooping who were doing the best they could and providing great customer service while she either just stood and watched, would step in and ring in a couple people then walk away again, or proceed to yell at the customers who didn't know she didn't need to know what flavor they wanted. As I was there the store had closed by now, this woman locked us all in so no reason customers would enter, rather than politely letting people know 'sorry we are closed, we are just letting these folks finish up first.' We literally had to wait for her to walk from the ice cream till all they way to the front door to let us leave. (Pretty sure that's a fire code issue too) When a family was trying to leave and she actually yelled across the entire store 'you have to wait for me to come let you out, it's locked' and proceeded to ring up 2 more customers before letting them exit. But my most favorite was when she went to let me exit and my husband pulled the car to the door for me and she proceeds to yell at him 'no, no, no we are closed!' he was like oh ok! But I won't give another penny to this place. Clearly closing up and making sure no more customers come pay their hard earned money is more important than making people feel valued and invited back when they're open. read more

Terrific ice cream and an incredible number of flavors to choose from. The atmosphere was a throwback to another time, which we appreciated. Quite enjoyed sitting at a picnic table on the patio on a sunny day enjoying our selections. That said, I will echo nearly every other review in suggesting that ownership take a reality check. Each of the three working the ice cream area during our visit had an unpleasant attitude and moved like molasses. This is a leadership issue, a top-down thing that would be easy to correct if ownership cared to. Clearly with so many negative reviews about customer service, there's no way they could be in the dark about it. I concur with the other reviews saying customer service is not great. Ice cream is also just okay, which could have been overlooked had the staff been better. I ordered two waffle cones, using that verbiage, and replied "double" when asked "double or single". You pay first then choose flavors. So when our turn came to choose flavors, a lady other than the one who rang us up said we had a double and a single on her ticket, and tried to argue back and forth when I told her I had ordered two doubles. (For the record, just get a single, its a lot of ice cream!) The woman who had taken our order was standing right there and did not speak up on the misunderstanding. Anyway, the woman had us go back to the register, pay another $1.15, ended up breaking my cone and shoving the whole thing into a cup. Not a pleasant experience. read more

The problem is a third of the people in line are not wearing masks and the staff are not enforcing the state mandate. To be honest, I think the risk of COVID transmission is high. Long wait, which I can deal with. After the long wait you pay for what you want. Wait again and then choose your flavor. After waiting 30+ min the ice cream flavor I wanted wasn't available. What could I do? Nothing. The line is even longer with people looking miserable. After picking another flavor I overheard the worker say they needed to flip the flavors over they were out of. To which the other employee said "oh yeah, that's been happening all day." Also, there is snacks and drinks on the ice cream side that you cannot pay for when you are up at the ice cream counter. Love love love this place! You want something sweet? This place has it! The staff is always super helpful and nice. I love that you order what you want the ice cream in (bowl, cone, etc) at the counter when you pay, and then you get to peruse the choices and order your flavors when you're ready. They have so many it's difficult to choose! On this last trip we tried their espresso and it is by far the BEST in town!
