There are certain places in Seaside that are not optional. The beach. The arcade noise. The smell of saltwater in the air. And for me, walking straight into Phillips Candies like a man fulfilling a sacred coastal tradition. This place has been around since 1897 and is actually the oldest continually operating business in Seaside, which honestly makes perfect sense the second you walk through the doors. First off, I absolutely love that they carry sugar free chocolates that actually taste good. That alone deserves applause. Then you add in the giant selection of candy, the homemade treats, the popcorn, the chocolate, the old school charm, and suddenly you realize you've been wandering around the store for forty five minutes carrying six pounds of snacks you absolutely did not plan on buying. I am a complete sucker for the white cheddar popcorn and the cheese popcorn. Throw in some Laffy Taffy and now we're talking about a full blown Seaside survival kit. Every single trip to the coast, I stop here and "accidentally" leave with enough candy to supply a small movie theater. The store itself is beautiful too. Bright, nostalgic, cozy, and full of that classic beach town energy that makes you happy just being there. It sits right near all the fun downtown, close to the arcade action and the heart of Seaside, so stopping in feels like part of the experience. The customer service is always fantastic, warm, welcoming, and patient with people like me who spend fifteen minutes debating popcorn flavors like it's a life decision. And somehow, even with the quality, it still feels like you get a good deal. Chocolates, candies, caramel corn, saltwater taffy, coffee drinks, sweet treats everywhere you look. No trip to the Oregon Coast feels complete without walking out of this place carrying a bag that's way heavier than you intended. Five stars all day long. read more

Really cute store, way bigger than I expected and full of every type of candy and treat imaginable. Wednesdays are pretty empty and shops are closed, so this was one of the only places still open to find a treat. A little overpriced candy you can often find at Walmart, but they also had some unique candies and a taffy bar to fill up a bag. Chocolate dipped everything at the chocolate counter and they offer ice cream too. Friendly employees and would visit again! read more

Ambiance- it's a super clean store. If you cross the street there's the old school candy shop that is literally a time travel back to like 1960's but someone didn't clean it. Phillips is nicely decorated, floors are clean, candy and all is nicely organized and displayed. There's a lot of different candies: current candy and candy from our last: Zagnuts! While visiting Seaside, Oregon I wandered upon a candy store named Phillips Candies. Having a sweet tooth, that I unsuccessfully try to deprive, I just had to see what they fad inside. I was amazed, and even amused, at the selection of delicious, amusing, nostalgic, and incredible candies that were available! There were candies from my childhood, from my nightmares!, and from my dreams. I noticed that a good amount of the candy was made in-house and, all the candy I was brave enough to try, was excellent. Oh my gosh there's so much good stuff in here it's definitely worth the stop! They have lots of candy options as well as a huge assortment of chocolates. I ended up getting a milk chocolate haystack, a white chocolate snowball, and a peanut butter bar. The haystack was delicious and I recommend getting some of you love coconut! The snowball wasn't exactly my cup of tea. The outside was covered in coconut but the big ball it was covering tasted like a big ball of white chocolate fudge. A little too rich for me without much payoff in my mouth. The peanut butter bar was the best chocolate I've ever had though!! It was a small piece, sort of like a snack sized version of a candy bar you see around Halloween time. But anyways, it had a thin layer of milk chocolate and then the inside was a fluffy and airy peanut butter flavored chocolate! Closest thing I can compare it to would be a 3 musketeer bar with that same type of whipped chocolate except peanut butter flavored!! As someone who absolutely LOVES peanut butter, this was seriously amazing. Next time I visit seaside I'm going to get a bag full of those peanut butter bars! 10/10 you have to try them!! Sure, it's all expensive, but so is every store at the coast. It looks nice inside, spacious and clean. They have a great selection of candy, chocolates, popcorn and ice cream flavors. They also recently added fresh gelato machines!! The only downside is they use styrofoam cups instead of paper for the gelato. Not too eco-friendly but not bad enough to lessen my rating. We were greeted as we made our way in to the store. I noticed a few tables along the front window to sit and enjoy a drink as I saw they do make coffee drinks and hot chocolate. We traveled along the back wall which had candy that could buy at almost any store. As we made our way back around to the front we stopped to look at the house made treats that the lady assured us were all made in house. Fudge, chocolates, truffles, popcorn etc. Chocolates were priced just under $20/lb. We opted for two pieces of seafoam (one milk, one dark) a chocolate covered oreo and a pecan cluster. For the four pieces it came out to just under $6. It was our first time experiencing seafoam...it wasnt bad, but not what I expected. The cluster and oreo were good. We stopped in Phillips twice while in Seaside recently. They have tons of old school candy, delicious chocolate by the pound, popcorn, and gelato. I thought everything was really good, except I felt that the cheddar popcorn was too oily and $10 for a small. The fact that this little candy store has been fulfilling generations of candy dreams for kids since 1897, or the magic of watching the old taffy wrapping machine twisting the wrappers on the soft freshly made taffy! When you walk in the door you smell the caramel corn, see the case of chocolates, and hear the soft sound of the taffy wrapper chugging away. It's like being a kid again, there is so much to see. Candy store in downtown Seaside OR One of the candy shops on Broadway Street in the heart of downtown Seaside. Dropped in to check out the displays of delicious treats and confections... the smell of the caramel corn lured us in. Mmmm! They have everything from salt water taffy to fruit slices & gummies to hand dipped chocolates. The fruit slices caught my eye, it must be one of their specialties, they have all kinds of flavors: lime, grapefruit, peach, pear, cherry, key lime, lemon, even chili mango! They have these in sour flavors too! Everything looked yummy and colorful in the glass display cases. Unfortunately (or fortunately), depends on how I look at it, I guess... fortunately, I didn't gain any pounds since I didn't purchase anything for me! I did buy a bag of salt water taffy for my boss to take back to Cali (taffies are one of her favorites). The chocolates are high quality but it was unfortunate that I didn't get to experience tasting any of them. I love my sweets, my favorites are chocolate with nuts and they have a variety of them. My braces don't like them, though LoL. I'll need to come back here another time when the grillz are off. The young staff were helpful and friendly. They had about 15 flavors of taffy. Although, the taffy was wrapped strangly and when I went to eat them, most of them weren't even formed into a ball, and ended up just sticking to the paper making it difficult and messy to eat. They had some good chocolates to choose from as well as fudge. They also had a good selection of other specialty candies. I would shop here again for candy and chocolates, but not for taffy. read more

We ordered sea foam and rocky road fudge by mail. It arrived promptly and was packaged well. The dark chocolate covering on the sea foam is of outstanding quality! We ordered the rocky road fudge based on other reviews. We sure wish we had ordered more because it was so delicious! We will be ordering more again soon. We were familiar with Phillips when we lived in Oregon and went to Seaside often. Now we live in California and it is so nice to have a "taste of home" to bring back happy memories. read more

We went in this past Saturday to grab some treats for my girlfriend and myself. I'm not a big candy eater but I do enjoy cinnamon taffy occasionally and they did have some....their taffy is made in-house and pretty good. My girlfriend got dark sea foam chocolate and stated it was 'very good'. She also got a little old fashioned peppermint lozenges and shark gummy candy. The lady helping didn't seem very personable, but they did just open. Prices are a bit steep but they are in a coastal town which makes it a tourist trap.....overall pretty happy. This candy store has a large selection of sugar free candy and cute little boxes. They have chocolate covered coconut (sugar free) which you typically don't see at candy stores. Worst salt water taffy Ever! Got a bag of their variety mix, and every single one was so chewy were they, that I couldn't pull my jaws apart without fear of loosening my teeth! They lacked that chewy yet soft feel of every other salt water taffy I have ever had. And the flavors... barely noticeable! I could hardly tell what flavor I had, save for the colors. The girls working at the store were so friendly and amazing. They have the best taffy in town and I would definitely recommend this place over the nasty candyman store. We got the mix 1/2lb bag for $4.49 and they were actually really really good! I'm not usually a big taffy fan but these have turned me around. They don't have a lot of flavors but the ones they do are tasty and doesn't make you feel like you are chewing a jawbreaker. I'd never had Phillips Candies before - always just went to Tom & Larry's for fudge because that is where Grandma Elsie loved the best. Wow. These chocolates are mouth-watering nuggets of delight. I was recently a judge for the Miss Clatsop County Scholarship Program and was gifted a box of chocolates in my room. It was hard to not eat them all in one sitting! There was some kind of oreo delight, nutty crunchy chocolatey thing, cherry draped in sweetness, salt-covered chocolate with carmel inside...oh man I have to stop or I will keep eating them. I have been going to Phillips for more years then I care to admit. Still the best candy store in Seaside. I love the Seafoam so much I could make myself sick on it. ( so I only ordered 2 pieces) Their chocolates are wonderful and great quality chocolate. Way better than most places. AND they still have wonderful hard caramel and cinnamon candies. Phillips Candy Kitchen has been in Seaside for longer than I've been alive. I cannot possibly walk past the store without going in. MUST HAVES: The caramel corn is second to none. I am a huge snob about caramel corn....try it. If you like cheese corn, I know many who are big fan's of Phillip's cheese corn too, but I hate they way it turns my fingers and teeth orange. They make their own taffy in-house.....don't buy into the "Candy Man's" street front giveaways....they ship theirs in from out of state, and it's stale and not as flavorful as Phillips. They also are the only candy store in Seaside to hand dip their chocolates on premises. Their fudge and nut brittles are also made right there. It just doesn't get any fresher or more hand made than at Phillips. They are the only place I've found west of the Mississippi to make seafoam, which I grew up knowing as "chocolate covered molasses puffs". But, if you would rather have Zots or Sourpatch Kids or candy cigarettes, they have plenty to choose from. Yeah, the popcorn smell is heavy, but that is because the popcorn popper is right by the door......it has honestly never bothered me. To me, that's better than bringing in the popcorn by the trash bag, which I've seen done at too many places. read more

I LOVED their taffy! The Lemon peanut butter taffy did not sound good, but it was incredible, and the chocolate peanut butter one was even better! There popcorn is really really good too.
