Wasn't too impressed,the food was thrown on the plate,to me the eye motive the stomach.It didn't look very appealing,and the taste wasn't all that.That day that the potatoes salad wasn't prepared well,the ribs didn't have that I will return.For me this will be a one time after that. This was our first visit and probably our last. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The food was not good. Being from North Florida, I prefer my barbecue sauce to be tomato based and all they had was vinegar based sauces, which I don't care for. I ordered the sliced brisket and it was dry and tasted like dried out pot roast. The plates come with something called hash served over rice. It was rust colored and as unappetizing to look at as it was to eat. The cole slaw was okay as was the potato salad. I told our server I was not enjoying my food and she was very kind and we swapped out the 1/2 chicken plate with no hash. The chicken was delicious. Finally got around to trying out Sconyer's Bar-B-Que last week. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I tried two sandwiches, one chipped pork, the other chopped brisket, and a side of the potato salad. I also requested both the hot and regular BBQ sauces to try. Both of the sandwiches were quite tasty, I tasted the pork and beef coming through in the meat and while they do not sauce the meat, it was still moist. The brisket had a couple fattier bites where the pork did not but the meat and fat was tender and fell apart in the mouth. I did not find any gacky bites that needed to be swallowed or thrown out. On the other hand, I did find one bite of the pork that needed to be tossed as I believe a small bit of bone had been chopped into the meat. Didn't ruin the sandwich or gross me out, just something of which to be aware. The meat portions were substantial too and made for a sandwich that could suffice on its own for a regular meal. Bun was pretty standard, nothing toasted, prepped or special about the top or bottom. Regarding the sauces, the flavors were both distinct and enjoyable. The regular is a bit sweet and the hot provides some fun flavors with just a bit of a punch. If you love hot, it'll be great, if you're wary, try it on a bite first. They both flow quickly too and are far from the syrup like concoctions you normally grab at the grocery store. As for the potato salad, and I'm only recently starting to eat them, I was quite impressed. By itself, it was pretty tasty, with some of the meat on it, I liked it even better. I could even see myself trying it with a whole host of other dishes like gumbo (some populations in Louisiana replace the rice in gumbo with potato salad, it's a surprisingly good alternative). Super impressed and would definitely try if you're not sure about the side and think it might be to your liking. While I did eat take out, so I can't speak to the inside space, based on the theming of the drive through, I expect the inside is a very well kept and charming barn style building. The exterior drive-through was both functional and attractive. As for the seating arrangements, there websites boasts being able to host hundreds so I expect the wait time shouldn't ever be too long. That being said, they only open a few days a week so plan out your decision to eat there. The personnel working the window were pleasant enough, knowledgeable of the menu, and their speed was as expected. Came on a couple minutes after opening time but that's no big deal. Parking looks like it should be fine, though if the parking lot fills up I would guess people just park on their street nearby. There's nothing else between the main drag and shopping center so I guess they have some freedom to make decisions on the fly. They do have a website, it's a little tacky but still functional, with their menu and prices which is useful, just be careful when you first click the link because they have an awful jingle that tries to play when you open the page, you can quickly click it off at the top of the page. The price point is a little steeper than I would like personally, you'll probably spend more than $10 per person, but it's still quite reasonable. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will happily point people there moving forward. read more

Sconyers is off the beaten path but well worth the drive. I moved to Augusta a few years ago and was so excited to find the hidden jewel restaurants and, well.....Pandemic! Someone had recommended this place and we went to the drive through during the Pandemic (only option at the time) which was literally into the road so I figured it must be good and worth the very long wait. It was! I had actually never had hash which appears to be one of their specialities and while the portion is way too much for me it was delicious. All of the meat selections we tried were great and the sides were delicious! I will add also that we got a sampler platter the first time so we could try more and I am not a fan of ribs at all for some reason but their ribs were absolutely delicious and that's what I always order now! read more

Homemade potato salad and cole slaw, and hash with rice that I've never had anywhere else! Don't be whining about no fries or onion rings, or how bad the wine is! I had to try it. 4 years after moving to Augusta, I finally made it over to the famed Sconyers BBQ. We went on a Friday night and it was hopping! Not just inside, but the drive thru! The ladies in their costumes didn't really impress me, nor did they seem to impressed to be wearing them. Service was adequate, the impression I got was they they are there to move you in and out. I had the Sampler Platter (whatever they call it) because I had to try it all to get a good overview. BBQ Pork- It was fine. I'm a Carolina girl, and I love mustard BBQ, OR Vinegar based this sauce. The sauce was just a miss for me. BBQ Beef- I actually thought this was pretty decent. Better than the pork Smoked Turkey- I had such high hopes for this, but y'all it was so dry. There was quite a bit of hash on my plate which seemed better than the pork bbq, but it was chock full on onions so I had to avoid it. Visiting here from Seattle and was told by locals that this was the best bbque in Augusta! Maybe I have high expectations for southern bbque and apparently this is an institution! The location and cabin like building is kinda cool! Super informal, menus are pretty dirty and wore out and choices minimal! The staff was absolutely lovely btw. We wanted to get a glass of wine and their choices are the lowest end gut rot wine brands you can buy! Sutter home is an example! Don't get the wine at all if you even remotely like a decent drink. You may get sick. I had the ribs! They were so tough I couldn't even cut them w the butter knife I was given and I sent them back to the kitchen to get cut up. Chewing into them was frankly not surprising! Your meat will not fall off the bone, you'll have to tear into it w your canines to eat it. But I loved the bbque sauce, yum! I vote find someplace else! Absolutely awful BBQ. It was overly dry, with absolutely no hint of smoke. The hash is so off putting in its appearance that it is not very appetizing. I'll take Texas or Kansas City BBQ over this for beef, and if I'm looking for good pork I'll go to North or South Carolina. Georgia has pretty bad BBQ in general, but this place is by far the worst I've had in Georgia. If I'm in Georgia and want good BBQ I'll just make it myself. If you want decent BBQ in the Augusta area, go to Willie Jewells, it's about the best you are going to do in this area. read more

This isn't your local hole in the wall BBQ. In fact, when we first arrived we wondered if we were in the wrong place. The parking lot is large enough for tour buses and caravans and is gravel. And, the property is huge. There's a goldfish pond and drive through and upon first sight you start to wonder where the general store is. The place is large yet the service doesn't skip a beat. Upon entrance girls that look like they are dressed for Little House on the Prairie escort you to your table and within seconds your drink order is taken. Order sweet tea and you'll get a glass and a pitcher. In addition, a half loaf of white bread is set on your table for dipping sauces. We ordered a mix plate filled with pulled pork, chopped beef and sliced turkey. While the beef wasn't our favorite the turkey was savory, moist and excellent and the pork was great too. They offer three BBQ sauces, but we enjoyed the one in the yellow bottle best. The sides were pretty good, too. If you like potato salad theirs is good. There wasn't too much mustard and it didn't taste like a deviled egg. It was the perfect mix of everything that made potato salad great: potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. The rice and hash was awesome, but we were so full we didn't eat too much of it. Honestly, I grew up calling Sconyers "Pig House" because I didn't know how to pronounce Sconyers when I was a kid. The food is DELICIOUS and the plantation platter is definitely a bang for your buck. For $22 (before tax + tip), you can get a mountain of ribs, hash, cole slaw, and more. My family of 6 and I usually order (2) of these platters and we're stuffed. Even individual plates are pretty good - you can order a half slab of ribs, a side of potato salad / cole slaw, and hash for about $15. The hash and rice is definitely the star at this restaurant. Honestly, it tastes a lot better than it looks. For those unfamiliar with hash, it's a mix of turkey, ham and more to create this gravy-like sauce that is paired with rice. If you go to Sconyers, this is a must-order! I don't want to politicize things too much in this review, but the vibe of the restaurant definitely plays into the "Old South" theme. The waitresses are dressed in colonial-style (?) outfits with bonnets and dresses and there's a Georgia-confederate flag right outside of the restaurant. The demographic of people who eat here leans more towards older Caucasian folk. However, I don't take offense to this at ALL and my Asian family of 6 are always welcomed and treated with so much genuine Southern hospitality. The building is surrounded by a BEAUTIFUL porch that overlooks a creek. They've done renovations and it definitely shows! There are rocking chairs and geese/fish during the spring time. As you're given a free half loaf of bread when you dine in, I remember taking a slice or two and feeding the fish when I was younger. Nowadays, my friends and I just sit outside on the porch and catch up with one another. TLDR: The food (especially the Plantation Platter) is DELICIOUS and service is always top notch. I was lucky enough to have gone to The Masters at Augusta National (twice) and this restaurant was the talk of the town (even though it's a little far out of the way.) I'm glad I went out of my way bc sconyers is the best BBQ I've ever had. The meat quality is the best I've ever had. The smokey flavor of the meat was perfectly flavored, not too sweet and not too salty. The sides complimented the meal very well. If you're out on this neck of the woods, it's a must try!. Went here on a Friday night and after seeing how packed the parking lot was we expected to wait awhile to get a table but we were seated immediately and had our food within 5 minutes of ordering. We ordered the half slab of ribs, chopped beef, and turkey. Each dish comes with a HUGE serving of their specialty hash but I think it is an acquired taste because no one at my table liked it. However, the potato salad and coleslaw sides were very good. The ribs were cooked well but not very flavorful and the chopped beef was actually shredded. I wasn't a fan of the BBQ sauces, may just be that I prefer Texas BBQ to Carolina BBQ because all 3 sauces had a weird aftertaste. read more

Disclosure: we are from Texas and my dad cooks incredible BBQ including brisket, pork ribs and pork roast. We had the rib plate with potato salad and hash with rice. We found that the ribs had no good smoke flavor. Just tasted like baked ribs with BBQ sauce slathered on. Not bad, but just not good BBQ. My husband liked the potato salad, but I didn't. For me, there was not enough pieces of potato-had lots of mayonnaise. The hash had NO flavor. The texture was like eating puréed meat layered on top of rice that had no flavor; no seasoning. What a bummer. I've wanted to come here since moving to Augusta but never did. Came with my book club last night and got my hopes up from the outside, because of how beautiful the scenery around it is and their outside seating patio area. Well, the food just wasn't good. I'm sad to say I have no reason to come back. The service was okay, but nothing on my plate was worth driving back for. They have a beautiful patio, so maybe I'd come back and enjoy that?
