Edible but not mouth watering. So many people recommended this place and I just don't get it. I had the smoked turkey and it was just ok, but fortunately not dry as others have pointed out. SO had the brisket and it was very fatty. The lack of side options is so weird to me for a bbq joint, and that half loaf of white bread...? How about some cornbread or rolls or garlic bread??? I went here on the recommendation of locals and I have to say that I guess you have to have grown up here to appreciate this place. Overall, it was horrible. The server was rude and the food was terrible. Hash must be an acquired taste, but for those who haven't acquired it, stay away. The entrees were all just hash with a side of some sort of meat and the portions were small. If you don't eat the hash, you'll leave hungry. I will never go back to this place! Sconyers has no business calling itself a BBQ restaurant. I heard several good things from others and decided to give it a try with a friend. Big mistake. The outside is picturesque and gives an impression that you are about to enjoy something wonderful. The restaurant is inside an old wooden cabin and is decorated with pigs and other animals. Staff are dressed like something out of Little House on the Prairie, which seemed to be at odds with a BBQ restaurant. We were given and appetizer of Sunbeam bread. No butter. Just half a loaf of Sunbeam bread still in the wrapper. The food is fairly priced, but nothing special. The sides were limited to slaw, chips, sweet pickles, and potato salad. I'm sorry, but a BBQ restaurant should be offering mashed potatoes, greens, mac n cheese, etc. I order the pulled pork sandwich, and it tasted fine. However, my food was easily ready in 3 minutes, which makes me feel that I was dished out of a tub in the back under a heat lamp. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

Just ate lunch here, I had BBQ chicken. it's s local favorite and very reasonable. It gives you a taste of old pit cooked BBQ and accompanying foods. I go here on rare occasions and not normally what I consider the best place for BBQ. However, that being said, I set the bar extremely high for BBQ. I love Sconyers! I grew up going to eat with my parents here all the time! It has the best BBQ, hash and rice, and potato salad. The sweet tea is awesome. It has a great place to sit outside before or after the meal. My favorite thing to order is the plantation platter. You can get turkey or chicken, it comes with ribs, hash and rice, pork bbq, beef bbq (my favorite!), choice of coleslaw, potato salad, or a mixture of both. When you check out they always have the peppermint sticks there. Once your at here it will be the only place you come for BBQ. Local owned restaurant and worth trying!!! Wow, where do I start! I've never tasted BBQ like this before! I don't even know how to describe the taste...very strange! I'm originally from SC, have traveled many places, I've NEVER tasted anything like this. No smoke flavor AT ALL! I don't know if it's sweet and vinegary or just marinated in Italian dressing...weird! They have this hash over rice, it looks disgusting, but I mixed my chopped brisket (beef) in it with the hot bbq sauce-eatable, not great! Potato Salad was good. Ribs- YUCK! Yesterday ( Labor Day ) I looked on the website and it stated that Sconyers would be open from 8:00AM to 9:00PM . I went there and who did I see ? Larry in a catering truck leaving the parking lot . I squealed like a pig and couldn't get his attention so I clucked like a chicken and still couldnt get his attention . I wanted to ask him why the hours of operation was wrong . Can you imagine my disappointment ? I felt like a joke was played on me . In the past 2 weeks I ate there 3 times and had the best food and service so I was going to spoil myself with a feast . My mother and I decided to try sconyers BBQ. I've heard such good things about it but never had the chance to try it out. Needless to say I was very disappointed!!! I hated the way the hash was thrown on top of the rice, my potato salad was warm & had no flavor, & my ribs was just meh. My mother didn't even touch her plate, all she had was the chicken & potato salad so that says a lot. The waitress didn't seem to care that we barely touched our meal. As I paid, a hostess asked my mother was everything ok, she hesitated to answer. The employee stated, if you have to think about it - it wasn't very good & ushered my mother out the building. Sconyers is a well known BBQ place here in Augusta so they could care less what we thought of the meal.. They're still going to make a profit from everyone else. Every time I go back home, Sconyers is absolutely on my to do list. I've been eating at this place since I was a kid and it always satisfies. It's an old wood cabiny place (with an awful gravel parking lot) with the staff dressed in German garb (which is a bit strange), but the food always makes me forget about my more than slightly confusing environment. My standard order is the chopped beef plate with extra hash and rice. Win. The hash and rice is an absolute must have - it might look a little strange at first glance, but you definitely won't regret it. Personally, I like to mix it all up and have one big bowl of delicious. The sauce is sweet and tangy and I usually end up buying an extra bottle to bring back to Atlanta (to hold me over until I make it back to Augusta). They also have the super soft peppermint stick thingys - super delicious. You can buy a bag if you'd like, or you can just wear attire with oversized pockets and snag a handful of the complimentary ones on your way out the door. My family usually comes here for holidays after we are tired of eating Turkey and dressing or for the Fourth of July. We usually get the Plantation platter to go. It's tons of food, five of us eat off of one plate no lie!!! It comes with chicken, hash, ribs, sometimes turkey, potato salad, and bread. We usually order a extra pint of hash. I love the taste of the potato salad it's more of a salty taste than a sweet one. All of the food is pretty good that's why this place has been opened for years and many people swear by it. It was all fairly good and consistent but none of it knocked my socks off. They had 3 kinds of sauce on the table and although they were OK. I wouldn't buy any to take home. Sconyers rocks. As soon as I was within 50 yards of this establishment, I smelled a delicious aroma of BBQ. The building is quaintly designed as a large wooden house and its imposing visage lets you know that they put a decent amount of thought into the decor. Everyone is friendly. From the servers to the customers waiting outside in line for takeout, everyone seemed to give a damn about how I was doing without being overbearing. The place was full of bustle and it seemed to run like a well-oiled machine. I liked it because efficiency is very important to me. The food - Great. First off, it comes out fast. After I placed my order, I had time to do absolutely nothing before the food came out. The rice and hash are good. The potato salad was decent. The ribs were delicious. There was a little bit of a struggle between myself and the bone over the meat but I dominated rather quickly. WHY is everyone dressed like Germans? Answer: I HAVE NO IDEA But what I can tell is that the food here is pretty good. Standouts: Hash and Rice: Chopped up meet and BBQ sauce mixed together on top of white rice. Really tasty. Seriously, it looks weird but don't skip it. Chopped Beef: Smokey sweet flavor to it. Pretty moist, a lot better than the chopped pork. So good that you don't need sauce with it. OK: Ribs: pretty average, seasoning on it could have been heavier Turkey: Pretty good flavor but a little bit dry, Somehow better the day after...?? Skip: Chopped pork, no flavor, dry... Oh yeah and the portions are huge here Originally I was going to give this place 4 stars, then I realized that based on the food, it's more worthy of 3 stars. Located a little out of the way, it breathes history as well as fabulous sweet tea, BBQ, hash & rice, potato salad...ahh, I'm making myself hungry. They know how to cook and it shows in the food. Great BBQ, incredible atmosphere, large portions and a friendly staff.. Went here for lunch with my staff here in Augusta. To make sure I had a chance to try it all, I had their large meal plate that included 2 pork ribs, 2 large slices of Turkey, BBQ Pork w/ sauce, BBQ Pork Tenderloin, Hash and Rice, Potato Salad, and Coleslaw. The plate was too much for one, and I believe I could have fed a family of 4 w/ the portion I received. They have 3 vinegar based sauces, a mild, a spicy, and a hot vinegar as they call it. All flavorful, and complemented the meat well. I really did not see much "heat" difference between the spicy and hot sauces. The only miss for me was the coleslaw. Vinegar based and similar to KFC coleslaw in consistency, it just really had no flavor.. The Turkey was moist and flavorful, the ribs were tender and tasty w/ a slight sweetness to them. The two flavors of pork were excellent in flavor, moistness and contrast. The hash and rice was a surprise treat, and I need to learn what is in that so I can make at home. I enjoyed the bread and butter pickles, but miss the Jalapeño that comes with Texas BBQ. A great place that I hope to get to visit again. read more

I have never had a more awkward, creepy, or unpleasant experience eating lunch in my entire life. I've heard about this place from lots of local people, saying it was good but not great but it's worth a try. I took an out of town friend and was honestly scared for her to eat here. The outside seemed promising - cute and themey - but the inside smelled awful and was filled with some of the most miserable employees and diners I've ever seen. The women wore themed outfits with bonnets and the men wore overalls - and they were all just so sad to be there. We considered leaving but figured the food was the good part. Our food was awful. The pork was okay, the sauces were terrible, the potato salad was awful, and the sliced bread served on the table was more weird than charming. The "hash" my husband had was one of the grossest things I've ever smelled or tasted. We waited in an impossibly long line where everything seemed to move in slow motion to pay - and finally got out of there. I got a chance to go to Skonyers yesterday for dinner. What an awesome place. Everyone was super nice and the food was great! If you get a large bbq plate it will be enough for at least 2 people. Instead of brunswick stew, they have hash and white rice. It is kind of like a really thick brunswick stew over rice...very tasty! I didn't think i would like it but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. We got the dinner for 2 and it had pork ribs, beef brisket, chicken, slaw, potato salad, and chopped bbq porl.
