Hey, I just met you and this is crazy but here's what I think about Sconees. Pretty darn good. Had to drop my car off this morning for some maintenance at the next door Union 76 so as I was waiting for my gf to pick me up I figured I'd grab some breakfast for the both of us before work. It's the least I could do for bumming a ride off her that early on a day she didn't have to start till later. It's a small establishment the back of the store probably takes up more room than the front. As you enter you get in line but the products are visible as you move through the line from left to right. They have a wide variety of flavors like chocolate scones, 3-berry, peach, blueberry, cranberry scones, etc. They also have things like baked manapua, hot dog or spam rolls, croissants and other pastries that you would normally find at a bakery. I got a blueberry and 3-berry scone. Both of which were light and very tasty. They come in either regular or mini-sizes which is good for those who want to get variety and more than one flavor. The hot dog roll i had was really good. The breading around the hot dog was so light and had a touch of sweetness to it. I'd def. come back again and grab more delights. Try to get here early though as they sell out throughout the day. It's also better to come early since the products will be much fresher. read more

Yikes. Not sure which is worse, the service or the scones. OK I take that back, the service was way worse. We came here the day before Fourth of July and so I called before we arrived to ensure it was open. The lady was difficult to understand and very curt. When we walked in she wasn't much better. No smile. Complete lack of friendliness. I asked her what was popular and I felt like I was bothering her. Mind you, we were the only ones in the bakery. So she had a choice of talking to the scones or to us, I think she rather talk to the scones. The spam roll was pretty good-it had a wedge of spam baked into a soft bun. The blueberry cream cheese and chocolate chip scones on the other hand were simply OK. They were decently moist but lacked any wow factor that would bring me back. read more

I keep passing by this place thinking "it's famous!...I think" due to Yelp. It looks kinda like a semi-oldsemirundown bakery in Kaimuki. And I was SUPER LE EXCITES about trying out the famous scones. Maybe a dozen different things in a box later, I am in the car, ravenous. Verdict? DRY. So dry. Every single thing. Corn bread, scones, cakes, muffins, DRY. And none too tasty. Couldn't eat more than a bite of each. I am sorry sconees. I don't know why you have made such a name for yourself, but I am not re-visiting. read more

Sconees is legit. I'm going to be totally honest and say that I'm not the biggest fan of pastries, but I like Sconees. I'm not sure what some of my fellow Yelpers are talking about when they call the scones "dry" because I've never had a dry scone here. (But it's also not like I go here on a daily basis or anything either...) Maybe because I get the oatmeal scone?? Not sure but to me Sconees (oatmeal) scones taste very fresh and buttery. These scones are moist (ugh, I hate that word) which is weird because I've never really had a moist (ew) scone UNLESS it was freshly baked (like these)... But Sconees Bakery scones are moist (ick) even at the end of the day! Sconees sells mini scones for those of you, like me, who only want a little taste :) My FAVORITE pastries here are the lilikoi, guava, and lemon bars. OMG. The shortbread crust is freaking great. Let's just say... If I had a freakishly high metabolism, I'd eat these fruity bars EVERY DAY. Try them. You won't regret it. :) read more

While my boyfriend cut his hair (in the next building), my daughter and I decided to roam around. We found The scones bakery and I love to give her little treats. So we entered the bakery and we were spellbound. With all the different kinds of scones, lemon bars, banana cake, chocolate cake, lilikoi cake, manapua(sold out), and half moon baked pastries. I'm not much a scone person, so we opted not to get any, but I got some lemon bars, a slice of the banana cake and couple of the baked half moon pastries filled with strawberry jam. While we were walking around Kaimuki town I gave her one of the pastries...she loved them. Soft and chewy. When we got home I tried the lemon bar...OMGoodness. Not tart...and not too sweet. It was just right...i've been searching for a lemon bar filled with goodness my whole life and I think i've found it. If you're ever in Kaimuki town you MUST TRY THIS BAKERY. It's great for the whole family. read more

What a gem! I've passed by Sconees a million times but it's usually during the evening when they're closed or when I'm in a rush to get somewhere. A few days before my visit, my friend Sherry remarked that it's a good idea to go somewhere that's been there awhile because it'll probably be gone soon. On the afternoon of my visit, I almost walked away but seeing the now defunct Victoria's Inn Restaurant across the street, I thought it best to check it out by trying some of the goodies. The selection of scones is immense and the case is packed full of both regular sized and mini sized scones ranging from flavors such as apple cinnamon, cranberry, and apricot. There are also various kinds of coffee cake, pies, fruit cheese roll-overs, and several kinds of baked buns such as manapua, custard and haupia buns, and anpan. The custard is thick and homemade with a subtle sweetness, and the buns are fluffy but still have that nice bite that distinguishes certain baked bao/buns from others. Prices are very reasonable and I am shocked that other yelpers have complained that the scones are too expensive. No way. Compare the price of a scone here with that of Starbucks or any other coffee chain and you'll immediately see that Sconee's prices are much lower and have much more value than a chain that can spread its costs among seemingly endless locations. The price of a scone mostly depends on if you get a regular or mini and range up to $1.85 each. Considering the fact that this is a locally owned business with one location that happens to be in one of the most expensive cities in the US, that is an amazing price. Some folks have complained that Sconees is "rundown" -- perception folks, perception. Sconees is clean, tidy, and well-run. A quick glance to the back baking room shows that it too is clean. Places like Sconees are a flashback to what businesses used to be when regular people, not corporations or people with venture capital partners or large pocket books, used to operate the majority of businesses. These were the days before pricey interior designers, decorators, public relations agencies, and consultants were brought in. Sconees doesn't sell fancy or gimmicky, rather it sells simple, homestyle food. read more

Visit: 4/19/09 - Snack. Had the chocolate chip scone. I was not impressed with this scone. I am not sure what the fuss is about. Kinda pricey for scones. I would not come back. read more

If you're in the area, be sure to stop by this little bakery located on 12th Avenue in Kaimuki. They only accept cash and make a variety of scones and bars. My favorites are the Lilikoi and Guava bars. read more

Super yummy, moist mini scones that are just the perfect size for a snack. My favorite flavors are the blueberry and the apple cinnamon, but I believe they also have chocolate chip, apricot, peach (yes, both apricot AND peach!) and cinnamon -- there may be others, but ooh, you must try the blueberry! Another dessert they do really well here is their custard-pumpkin pie. I think they'll make it all year round, but if you want to make sure you'll get it, PLACE AN ORDER IN ADVANCE. Sconees makes the best custard-pumpkin pie since Bea's; in fact, theirs might be better than Bea's (but really, is it relevant, since Bea's no longer exists?) -- the pumpkin filling's got just the right combination of pumpkin pie spices (whatever those may be), and the custard sits on top nicely and holds its own with flavor. Delicious. Here's a hint for parking: Don't park at the metered stalls along 12th Avenue. Opt instead to park in the municipal lot on the Ewa side. Take a ticket and park inside the gate, then cross 12th again to get to Sconees. You'll be in and out quick enough to make the grace period, and you'll end up paying nothing for parking -- better than parallel parking and wasting your coins at the meters! read more

Where else can you get delicious scones and yummy baked manapuas? The whole wheat scones are a little crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. There are always plenty of berries to help keep the scones moist, too The baked char siu manapuas are one of the best on the island! They are full of moist, tasty char siu and the baked dough is sweet and perfectly baked. It's hard to not buy two of everything because everything is delicious! read more

We actually stopped by to try the bakery next door, but decided to give this place a shot too. We tried the cream puff and lilikoi bars. The puff was meh, but the bars were delicious. Prices were fair, and they had a great selection of treats. We will definitely be back. read more

Stopped in for a quick breakfast - two scones (apricot, blueberry). So yummy! Tender & moist - not easy to do. Go get 'em! :) read more

Everything they have here is good and the prices are reasonable. A lady at the counter used to be very rude, but she must have heard about the reviews people were giving her because she is not acting like a diva anymore. read more

I'm not particulary a scone-person, but these sconees are delicious! My gracious coworker and boss are the 2 sconees loyal customers who always bring them to the office. I'm just here to write a review about them..hehhee...perfect!. I love their apricot/peach scones; they're buttery, crumbly-not dry and if you put them in the toaster oven for like a minute or two...yum, warm sconees!! They inspired me to host a tea party with my girls...I just need to buy a big flowery hat and I'm good. I tried the scones from diamond head grill just for comparison, and eventho those are good, but they're more like muffin than scones (having a sister who's a good baker helps me distinguish different textures in pasties and baked goods..^_^) read more

The lilikoi bars are really good. But the lady who served me this past Sunday afternoon was extremely rude. She looked impatient when I asked for two more of similar scones I requested a few seconds ago. And then when I asked for the scones to be placed in two different smaller boxes, she had this expression on her face as if she thought I was purposefully trying to be a pain in the ass. There was no other customer behind me, and the boxes were for two different families, so I didn't think it was an unreasonable request. Her attitude towards me was enough to make me want to walk out without buying anything. But I didn't have it in me to be that rude. However, I was still thinking about that unpleasant experience the next day, and decided to write a negative yelp review for their customer service. My advice - send someone else to buy the baked goods here or just don't go at all if you can't stand rude service. Cash only. read more

Way to find a niche and rock it! Sconees doesn't look like much but is a hidden gem of a bakery that bakes lovely scones and a few other pastries--but primarily scones. I happen to like their crunchy biscuit-like scones. Some like the soft lumpy looking scones (of other bakeries better. If you are one of those people then you might not appreciate the fantabulousness of Sconees, but so be it. I don't ever want to know how much butter they put in it but they do have mini sized scones (provided you get there before they run out) to lessen your guilt while you devour a piece of baked yumminess. Their lemon bars and their blueberry bars are to die. Oh my. Nice thick pie-like crusts and the fruit part is fluffy like meringue. ONE THING: For the love of all things baked, would you please start taking credit cards?!?!?! read more

Me: Babe have you ever had pastries from sconees? *feeling pretty special because he probably hasn't* Boyfriend: Yeah, there used to be one in Pearl City too. Me: *no longer feels special* After eating lunch with my mom at Hale Vietnam, we ended up at Sconees on the way back to our car. There are a few other bakeries in the area and Sconees is definitely not "hip" or "trendy" looking. In comparison, it looks like an old school bakery that has been there for ages. But those are the best kinds, am I right? We ordered a peach scone and a corn bread and it came out to a little over $3. The corn bread could have been a snack for 2-3 people...not kidding. Think 2x the size of zippys corn bread. It wasn't as rich or buttery as other places, which I appreciated since I like to convince myself that despite eating out so much I'm being "healthy" in the little things. If you like your cornbread lathered in butter, it probably won't satisfy you. The peach scone was also not very buttery and more on the dry side. However, I don't remember ever having a scone that wasn't "dry" since it tends to be the consistency of the pasty itself. It was good but was a bit lacking in peaches. Load em up with those fruits please! Next time I'd like the try the apple pie, other fruit scones, and the guava pastry that everyone raves about. I probably should have yelped what to order before hand but it's okay; that's what round two is for! read more

Meh- vi don't get all the hubbub. The scones were OK. But maybe I just don't know what a good scone is. Nah! I think I do. I had high hopes as many people raved about them, but while they looked good, all golden brown - I thought they were very dry and bland. I have had scones at TOWN - those are heavenly. Crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside!! These were OK. Not the best but OK. read more

Okay, this might sound odd, but what I absolutely LOVE about this scones-specialized bakery is their... lilikoi bars!! I actually never tasted their scones, but man these bars are good. No. Absolutely fabulously delicious. They have kind of a crumbly shortbread like crust, with a layer of lilikoi custard that's actually super light because they make it foamy (I know, it's hard to explain, but just go taste one, and you will know what I am talking about), and a top layer of I don't know what that's more gooey. It has the most perfect combination of tart and sweet, with every now and then a grain of salt popping out. And it's 89c. I know, right! Also taste their guava bars. It's really good (but to me, nothing tops the lilikoi ones). read more

Look. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are chocolate cake days. If you get there before 11am, there might just be a slice waiting for you. It's delicious. Their chocolate cake is what chocolate cake should taste like. I don't know what they put in it that makes it so good, but it's damn good. Try it and let me know. You will become an addict. Their scones aren't half-bad either. They're actually quite good with fruit jam, or even Nutella. Before you accuse me of being partial to chocolate, I'd like to point out that Nutella is not chocolate, it's hazelnut spread. Damn good. Sconees chocolate cake with a layer of Nutella. Yum! TIP: Bring cash - cash only. read more

#59/365 I havent been here in a LONG while and I was craving for some scones so I thought that i'd stop by. I a little before 11 and they still had a good stock of scones and cakes left (cornbread, lilikoi cake, coffee cake, etc), and a few other pastry and bread items, such as buns and their bite sized turnovers. I havent been here alot, today would have been my 3rd time and I enjoy their baked goods. On this visit I got their mini peach scone for $1.15 and their lilikoi cake for $1.65 I think. Other scone choices are blueberry, triple berry, apple, apricot, oatmeal raisin and a couple others. The peach scone was pretty good, soft and fluffy and not too dry. The only thing is that it didnt really have a peach flavor, only from the small pieces of chopped peach that was mixed in. The lilikoi cake on the other hand was really delicious, it had a good, strong lilikoi flavor. It was a big, moist piece of cake...mmm. Overall, tasty baked goods for a reasonable price. read more

Yum! Fresh scones baked every morning. This weekend I picked up some apricot, peach, whole wheat blueberry, and apple scones. They also have triple berry, regular blueberry, and plain. Flaky, soft, buttery deliciousness! The mini's are only $1.25 and they're HUGE! Yummo. No place to sit, but you can pick up coffee here to wash down your scones. Adorable tiny little bakery. don't judge a book by it's cover. And don't judge a bakery by the run-down, not-very-instagrammable look of the business. Instead, judge the bakery by the AMAZING smells and the AMAZING scones. Best scones in US. (not just the island.... but in the US). No joke. (And I've had scones in an 800 year old converted church in Oxford, England where they invented scones.....with the jam and the clotted creme). Seriously. let's support this local bakery. read more

I like their scones and their bars. They even have whole wheat scones! LoL.

I wanted to like this bakery because the guy who helped us was really nice, but the lillikoi bar, blueberry cream scone, and cream puff we had were not very good. The only good thing was that the prices were good and parking (metered) in the parking lot behind the bakery was easy. read more

Stopped by this bakery on a recent Sunday morning to sample their specialty scones that I heard so much about. They have many different flavors to choose from including chocolate chip, blueberry, cranberry, apple, peach and oatmeal raisin to name a few. Their scones are very light and fluffy but a little disappointed you could not taste the fruit in the scones. All tasted like plain scones. $1.95 each for large and $1.15 each for mini. Also their lilikoi and guava bars are very light and delicious. Not too sweet with a tasty crust. Along with their baked good items they even sell different types of manapua, breads and turnovers. Will be back to try their breads and turnovers. read more
