This review is for Scolari's food truck at Almanac Brewery in Alameda. Visited the brewery on a Saturday, was busy and the line to the food truck was long, took 45mins to order and waited about 20mins for the food after ordering. Was it worth the wait? Yes and no. The burger was excellent - tasty and juicy. The burgers are super tall so a bit hard to eat - a tad messy :) My husband had the chicken salad - looked pretty good, lots of lettuce and chicken. The fries were a bit too salty for me. The no part of whether it was worth the wait is that I was starving and I'm not sure I can justify waiting over an hour for any food, especially when I wanted to "line my stomach" before drinking :D read more

Really good specialty burgers! This is a cool spot in alameda. You can order your food and then take your number to the bar next door. The guys at Scolari's will bring your food over wherever you sit. I got the peanut butter bacon burger. I thought the peanut butter was too little in comparison with everything going on. The habanero jam was not spicy as I expected it to be. My cousin got the blueberry burger and I thought that was very well balanced in flavor. Scolari's makes some high quality burgers and chicken sandwiches. They can be as decadent as you'd like, but after this Nashville hot dando, I likely have to gravitate toward the simpler items. Simple is still just as delicious though. They have a small location on park that you can also order from the bar next door, but I snagged a sando from their truck at Almanac. Hands down, has to be one of the best, if not, the best burger place I've tried. Scolari's is also Guy Fieri approved! Stopped by on Saturday around 2 pm. There is no indoor dining but there are plenty of outdoor tables with shade under a wood pergola. Water is self-serve. They came out to serve the burger after around 10 minutes with napkins and plastic cutlery. The blueberry bacon blue cheese burger is my go-to. The sweetness of the blueberries and the creamy nuttiness of the blue cheese pairs perfectly with the crispy bacon and the juicy meat patty. It is sandwiched between a bed of fresh arugula, red onions, and a buttery brioche bun to hold this masterpiece all together. I admit I close my eyes and savor each and every bite. I was looking for a burger type of lunch. My lunch date suggested this place. So I arrived and walked up and was like oh where is this question that asks " is this place divey" because it is. It definitely located next to a bar so I imagine that there's a lot of back-and-forth. OK they have a parklett outside for eating but inside OK I don't have enough time to get into that. I'm hungry. I order an impossible burger. He said veggie burger I said impossible there was difference between the too and I ended up with a veggie burger because it obviously was not impossible burger meat, he gave me all the topping and I look pretty surprised the bun was cold when I got it or not toasted warm , but that's fine too. I ordered scampi fries thinking it was gonna be like a shrimp scampi type of situation, but it was just like an order of garlic fries. let's get into fries. How many times do you drop fries before you say let's just throw this batch away. I was hungry, so I started eating and dipping I got into the burger, which I realize it's not impossible patty. It wasn't for me. I will say at 2 AM after an evening at that the bar next-door - those fries dipped seven times in oil and served with some garlic on top would have probably been fine. read more

One of the best burger places we've ever been to!! My boyfriend got the blueberry bacon blue cheese burger and said it was the best burger he has ever had. I had the wimpy burger and it was the perfect portion for me and was like if a McDonald's burger was made fresh and tasted excellent. Fries are great too. We ate outside and waited only a couple min. Food was great however the service took longer than expected . It took about 30 minutes for a chopped cheese and a friend of mine waited about 40 minutes for a cheeseburger while chicken tenders and fried chicken sandwiches came out with quickness. When asking about an order update the cook in the truck with a dimple would smirk and make conversation with other staff and would tell us another 15 minutes after being quoted 15-20 minutes when ordering . We went to check out their Blueberry Blue Cheese burger but their classic burger was way tastier to me. Patties were thicker and juicier for classic, and the sauce was super bomb. Blueberry burger has a lot of pepper and is much drier. Just wasn't a fan of the combination. Their fries are good though. Not crispy but big portions and good flavors. They don't have seats so you have to go to a bar next door. It was difficult to get drinks because the bar was really busy with one bar tender. I took my husband to Scolari's for a date night and was blown away by the blueberry bacon blue cheese burger! The meat was crusted with peppercorn and it gave it such a nice crunch. I've never had anything like it before. I normally don't like blue cheese but it was subtle and mixed well with the blueberry. I'm just a sucker for sweet + savory foods. We also got the good ol' boy. It was crunchy and not dry. I'm sure it would've been more flavorful if we did spicy but my husband can't handle too much spicy. The cilantro aioli was interesting but did not wow me like the burger did. As a side, we got a half order of the garlic scampi fries. These were pretty disappointing. It was so overdone and salty, yet lacking flavor. But going to the burger.. we are getting two of those next time! It was THAT GOOD. My buddy is allergic to blue cheese and when asked to replace with American on the side, it was brought out to the table on a separate tray and literally plopped onto our table with disdain. The overpriced blueberry burger did not live up to expectations for what it cost. Ranch advertised as $1 extra but charged WITH TAX so it's over a dollar. It's my FAVORITE the bacon blueberry burger is EVERYTHING! But I'm giving them three stars because the girl that works there is trash. Her customer service is horrible! She never smiles. She's super rude and acts like everything is an inconvenience even slicing a burger in half. People would probably spend more money and more time there if she wasn't. But the burger is fire. It is pricey your burgers are $24 w/o the fries and then if you go on the day she's there and she's gonna charge you $1.50 for a half empty jelly container on top of that. $40 for two slices of pizza, two sodas and 3 mozzarella sticks is absolutely insane. All of the food was lackluster with little to no flavor and they're charging an extra dollar for their buttercream dipping sauce; ordered two of those and was only given one to split between both slices and the mozzarella sticks and the mozz sticks don't come with their own dipping sauce. The mozzarella sticks are listed as "Nashville Hot", but had no heat, leaving us to believe they just needed a way to justify them dripping in grease just as the pizza was. Who serves pizza and doesn't offer chili flakes!? The only thing that earns them a second star is their support of other local businesses, Alameda Soda Co. (amazing) and Lucky 13 (also amazing). Guy Fieri needs to come back and drag this place for giving up. read more

I've been a fan of Scolari's good eats since 2010 and believe it or not I'm a vegetarian so most of the items although my friends rave about them I do still go meet free. The thing that surprise me the most that I always order every single time would be the buffalo fries. The perfect amount of spicy with the subtle amount of what I refer to as a fire extinguisher blend of cheese with shredded I find the service amazing mainly because it's quite easy to order and then I walk next-door to the bar called the Lucky 13 Alameda and they actually deliver to the bar. So if you can imagine hanging out with your friends having a beer and then grabbing a menu and ordering the best Bar food I've ever heard of that's also explaining the ambience. Love scolaris! Their far east fried chicken sandwich is awesome. I like the Nashville hot too, but it's got a lot of sauce and the taste of the chicken kind of gets lost in all the spice. Love their garlic fries. They have some really fun specials and I hear their burgers are some of the best in Alameda. Looking forward to exploring the menu more. I was having high expectations for scolaris. I've been told from New York City to Los Angeles to come and try this place in the city where I live to try it out. The hype was moving in further as I was doing my research. The place is small and it does it's job very well. Menu is simple to read and the staff member taking my order was very patient, knowledgeable, and nice. The waiting time was a bit long but I imagined it was worth it. The staff member came out and handed me my order in my hand and called it out by name. I got the blueberry blue cheese and my brother a classic cheeseburger and both shared garlic scampi fries. Fries were good but the potatoes too soggy. The seasoning and garlic were yum. My burger was too oily and a bit burnt. I attempted to mask the burnt with the jam and it did the trick a bit. Lemonade was nice, not artificial tasting at all as it comes from the machine. I did enjoy the experience but my taste buds were all confused. Maybe I'll try another burger next time. read more

Blueberry bacon bleu is where it's at if you're not getting any specials ... wanted to eat there again yesterday for the second time in just a week! but they opened late, (presumably to learn some new specials from the owner/Head Chef Mike) So even though I went to eat at Sushi House instead I'm telling you, this place has it all. I wanted Scolaris as well because instead of the bill being $45 I could've probably gotten satisfied with $20-$25 the burger has a seasoning kick that all burger enthusiasts will like (yes even us well done lovers) it was thoroughly cooked through but not burnt, still juicy. The "wimpy" burger is a hot take on a McDonald's style burger but done right. And I mean it was awesome. Definitely something I see myself trying late night with munchies or just to eat before going next door to lucky 13 bar where I'll be visiting on my next trip over. Nice little trip to Alameda on a beautiful day and had to stop by one of the places I had bookmarked. Il We ordered the cheeseburger, chicken sandwich and garlic scampi fries. Cheeseburger was nothing to rave about and they don't do modifications like grilled onions, bummer. Anywho, the chicken sandwich tho.....I asked for the slaw on the side because we had a bit of a drive back home and I didn't want it to be soggy. That was an expert move and really made all the difference. Sandwich was still warm, crispy and delicious. I would most definitely order again. Pretty hefty sandwich too. Almost didn't finish but it was so good I couldn't stop. I got the Nashville hot and it was a nice bit of spice that I was looking for. The fries were good as well but better paired with the aioli like other reviews mentioned. The price for a full order was just as much as a burger which was crazy but now I know for next time. After having drinks elsewhere in Alameda, we were looking around for food and this place came up as one of the few spots open past 8:30pm. Got a couple of burgers with no expectations, and they were both quite good. The Blueberry Blue Cheese burger ($19) was different and tasty, although the blue cheese can be overpowering if you're not a huge fan of the sharpness. The Good Ol' Boy ($16, vegetarian with nashville hot) was one of the best sandwiches I've had, with plenty of heat and good texture. Met some friends at the bar next door. My friend who's a local said we could order food next door (here) and eat it in the bar. Total win-win for me, even though I have to get out of my seat and go back and forth. This place is a literal hole-in-da-wall, like zero room to dine in, though there may be some stools on a small counter. If 4 people come in to place an order, it will be uncomfortably tight in there. I squeezed in, placed an order and left with a buzzer. That buzzer went off within 10 minutes, so they are efficient. Classic Cheeseburger with added Bacon ($16+$2/4.5*) Damn decent burger, but damn is it pricey for the size. I only say 'pricey' because that $18+ sandwich does not include fries. Just one lone burger in a roomy take-out box. It did seem like a third pound or so, as it seemed bigger than a quarter pounder, but not as hefty as half pounders. The Patty: Nicely seasoned and griddled masterfully. Crusty and well browned, just the way a burger should be. Cheese really melted and I'm strongly considering getting 2 patties on my next out. The Bun: I think they use a Challah bun and I'd say it is quite the ideal choice. Nice job. The extras: Super fresh veggies, with the onion being a monster slab, which I love. Except my last bite which was towards the middle of sandwich was too much onion, that it overpowered the beef. Next time, I may have to take some off. The bacon was the crisp variety, which is fine by me. It was a very juicy, drippy burger for sure. I'd say minimum 3 napkin job, maybe 4. I didn't order any, but I tried some from my friend's Fries ($6/half order/3.5*) These are some ugly fries, as they are thick and hand cut and not fried to a crisp status. So as they sit in the bag, they get all smushed. Not long clean strands. But I like potato texture so the taste was fine to me, as the oil they use is not bad. But if you like crisp fries, these are not for you. This actully kinda reminded me of fish n' chip type of fries, that are kinda soggy and meant to get doused with salt and vinegar. So, awesome burger, but I have to just be prepared to swallow to pay almost $30 for a burger/fries meal without a drink yet. And ya know I'm gonna have at least 2 at the bar. So my next out will be well over $50 bucks...for a burger meal and 2 brews. What the hell is going on with our economy??!! read more

The Louisiana chicken sandwich is fire. Small place went up to order. The floor was really slippery tho i almost slipped. The floor is just really greasy. I had the chicken sandwich I gor my daughter the slice of cheese pizza. The pizza was ehhh not the best but not the worst. The chicken sandwich was the one tho. The misses ordered the burger IT WAS FIRE TOO. The service was just the person taking the order. He did bring our food pretty fast. Only thing I would say that is annoying if u pay with credit card they want to charge u gratuity just for taking the order. That always gets under my skin. We LOVE this spot! We come like once a week. We just moved to the area a few months ago and while we want to try new restaurants, it's hard to not keep coming back here. To start- if you're looking for amazing service or cheap food, this isn't the spot. They get you your pretty food quick and it's worth the $$ to me. We often order and then take our buzzer over to the bar Lucky 13 next door. They have their regular menu as well as a specials menu and while I try to order new things, I always go back to the classic cheeseburgers. The hush puppies are SO good! The fries are too!
