I've been coming to Scolari's for years. Last Thursday, my BFF was visiting from out of town. She hadn't been here in a few years. We were in downtown Oakland seeing friends and she really wanted food from here. So I called to place an order. They asked me to hold. I was on hold all the way until I walked through the door. 14-15 minutes. There were no customers. Employees standing around. I ordered the usual. Nashville Hot Chicken, Blueberry Bacon Blue and Scampi fries. We got our food and went to my apartment. The food was not edible. At all. We threw it all out. I called and spoke to Callie. She said "Well it IS a hot chicken sandwich" Ummm... I've had it over a dozen times. I'm aware. There were no blueberries on the burger, and medium rare was closer to well done. The fries were overdone as well. The chicken sandwich was SO hot. We both started choking on the heat. We both eat hot stuff all the time. This was disgusting. Cali took my info and said I would get a call right after Christmas. Nothing. I called again this week. Sometimes you meet a fried chicken sandwich that you just can't stop thinking about. My dining companion raves almost as much about their burger. We first tried Scolari's at their downtown Alameda location. It's a simple storefront with a couple of tables out front (these are COVID times). I ordered take out and waited just a couple of minutes for our hot and fresh food. Let's take a moment to celebrate the Good Ol' Boy fried chicken sandwich. I got it home and discovered the magic that I'd found. This is a "get in the proper stance" sandwich. Two hands, firm grip, elbows out, jaw unhinged. Crispy breast, dukes mayo, pickles, pickled jalapenos, iceberg lettuce, and aioli. The creamy spiciness of this sandwich should not be underestimated. It is a flavor journey that made me make sounds one shouldn't make when eating in public (thank goodness I tried it at home for the first time). Their fries are a perfect balance of crispy and tender, and the house aioli send them over the top. Thankfully, when we discovered their cute little airstream food truck outside Almanac Brewing a month or so later, we were ready and knew what to expect, so we could mind our manners as we ate inside the brewery (it's a great place, and you should go) before hopping the ferry from Seaplane Lagoon into the city. Same yum factor on both the Good Ol' Boy and the Classic Cheeseburger. They're not cheap, but in my opinion, the lingering flavors from that Good Ol' Boy are worth every penny. read more

They have a partnership with Lucky 13 bar right next door so you can take your food in there and eat it, and post pandemic they also now have outdoor street seating with benches and tables. Horrible parking as it's on Park Street, but you may get lucky parking a block away or so. If you're a burger person, You must try their Blueberry Bacon Blue Cheese Burger, one of the best burgers around, and their house fries are really good. I have also tried their New Jersey Taylor Ham, Egg, & Cheese Sandwich and it's really good too, kinda salty bc of the ham so don't eat it if you have to watch your sodium intake (okay maybe just a bite to taste lol). This place is #TDF (to die for) the blueberry burger is my fav I've been here about 10x and each time this place delivers. The food is bomb and the staff is amazing. The pizza is from Marley Gs can it get any better? The buffalo fries and the scampi fries are definitely the best fries in the bay. You have to bring your friends and family here when they visit. Don't get me wrong, the food is tasty but these prices are insane. For something that is a hole in the wall, with no indoor seating, and an overall dining experience of a quick takeout experience--IMHO you shouldn't be charging sit down dining service prices. I'd advise to take your $20-30 that could stretch out way further in not only food but a nice interior (with table service) to sit in on so many other options on the island. Okay, where do I begin.... My first experience with this place was their food truck outside of Alamanac brewery and wooooo did the blueberry burger blow my socks off! I literally laughed because the burger was so good! Nice and charred as well as the bacon was cooked to perfection, I like my bacon soft and definitely not crunchy and they hit the mark! The garlic fries are amazing but, I would agree with other patrons that they are a bit soggy. Overall food truck is five stars! I finally got to try the Good Old Boy chicken sandwich for myself and it was honestly PERFECT. The bun is soft, but sturdy and holds the sandwich together. The pickles are crisp but not too vinegar-y. Most importantly, the chicken! The spice was full of heat and flavor (like that of a jalapeño). The breading was both crispy and crunchy and the meat was tender and juicy. (Eat your heart our Popeye's!) We ordered a side of fries and Mac and cheese and both complimented the sandwiches so well. I really wanted to try this place because I saw it on Diner Drive in and Dives a longgggg time ago! You order from a little door entryway and their menu is posted inside and also on the windows. Also they have specials on the left when you go in to order so loook out for those!!! Went it got a chicken sandwich and fries!!! To me it tasted like a regular chicken sando but they definitely pack on the Mayo. Lol. The fries were perfect tho'! They also give this aioli and its interesting. This is a casual place with outdoor seating area, and there's more outdoor seats available further down the block. Parking situation is also pretty convenient. There's street parking, parking structure close by on Oak street, and additional outdoor parking. I went there with my twin toddlers and husband, and it is aways a hit.
