My family and I were in town for the week and decided to stop in on a Sunday evening. The place was crowded and we had to wait about 15 minutes. It's easy to tell who the locals were and who the tourists were by the wide range of ages. The second thing we noticed was how dirty the floors were. Littered with food, parts of napkins, etc. We started with house salads with balsamic vinaigrette. Basic salads but portions were very generous. Very tasty croutons. The bread they provided was warm and fresh. We each had the oriental stir fry. You had a choice of shrimp or scallops. Either order was loaded with them. Plenty of vegetables and rice. Overall, it was very good. Portions were very generous once again. Our service was good and friendly. Other tables I could see were having some service issues. Our waitress busted her rear end. She didn't have other staff bringing the food or drinks out for her. The menu is large and they offer just about everything but Mexican food. Hold on a second....they had fish tacos. Tons of options. There's a large beach parking lot across the street to park at in the evening. No problems with the food or staff but the overall cleanliness of the floors concerned me. read more

Stumbled upon this gem after visiting another restaurant and having to toss the food. This place is great! Attentive waitstaff, the chowder was amazing (some of the best I've had), and the fries portion was huge! The bartender was working alone for a full bar and doing foodservice and managed to keep up, remain friendly, and even have some drink recommendations. Visited Schooner's after scouting Yelp from some seafood places in the Hull/Hingham area and what a great find! I started the meal with the New England Clam Chowder and it was filled with hunks of meat! I got the Lazy Stuffed Lobster which comes with 2 sides - I opted for the mashed potatoes and carrots. I made it through half of my plate and absolutely couldn't finish anymore. Took the rest in a to-go container and I cannot wait to eat it later today. The inside is a bit small so you may have a bit of a wait for a table or you can sit in the bar area that has some small tables. This place was just okay. My husband, our toddler and me ate here at 5:30 on a Saturday night after hanging out at the beach. We got there at 5:10 and it was almost empty. Come 5:45, there was a wait. Glad we got there when we did. They asked us to either put our stroller away(fold it up) or leave it outside the door. Yeah, not gonna happen with a $300 stroller. We folded it up and then just stood at the table as no one came with a high chair. A minute later I had to go get a bus girl to get us one. Never been out where a high chair wasn't immediately given. Not a huge deal, just an observation. We ordered fried haddock, scallops and a cheese pizza. The pizza was the best part. My husband said his scallops were incredibly salty and not good. He has lower standards and to see him not clean his plate was surprising. My fish was ok. The batter was soggy which was kinda nasty but the fish itself was decent. Soda had gone bad and was bitter but they replaced it once I asked for a new, different one. The waitstaff was not friendly, nor were other patrons. Our son was very well behaved but for some reason it was like people were aggravated a young child was in the place. Really odd atmosphere. The bill was high for what we got, and living on the coast we know seafood isn't cheap. But when it's crappy seafood then it's hard to justify paying the price. Visiting New England from California and resting up on Nantasket Beach. Didn't count on the weather though. Awful. Trip Advisor steered us into this place. We found a place at the bar and also found a bunch of new friends. What great people! Dry Martinis - Great! Appletini - Great Jalapeno Poppers - Great Baked Quahogs (clams) - Great Split the scallop, shrimp and haddock au gratin - It, too, was terrific. Only complaint - The mediocre California Caberbet (Lodi) was way too expensive - $ 26 for a $ 4 off the shelf wine is gouging. Jenna, the bar server, was fun, friendly and efficient. Met a bunch of interesting people and learned a lot about Boston and this part of the country. Met the owner at the end of the bar. Back the next night - now we're regulars! And so were some of our newest friends. The person sitting next to me at the bar was having fried haddock - so was I then. Had the jalapeno poppers again. Wifey had the best fish stew - full of scallops, calamari, shrimp - in a flavorful tomato base. Haddock portion was huge, fresh and of excellent taste. Great restaurant! If you're a fan of seafood or New England food, this is a good place to go. I've had the chowder and fish and chips here and it's good. The hostess that say us was kind of curt so that kind of made sour. Our waitress was super nice and friendly the atmosphere is pretty rustic nothing fancy. They have a full bar and serve all the local beers and cocktails. I had the fisherman's platter which is enough food for two. My husband had the Atlantic salmon (which you can order plain, Lemon pepper or Cajun style) he got lemon pepper. IT WAS THE BEST SALMON EVER!!!!! EVER!!! You can also pick your choice of sides. My mom was dying to have her seasonal fried clams. So we took her and the 2 dogs to Nantasket Beach. I read the reviews on here for fried clam restaurants and it sounded like this would be a great place. The place was packed. We ordered and walked around while we waited for our fried clams and my meal. I'm a vegan so I checked the menu online before we left the house. It said they had a vegetarian stir fry. I ordered that. When we got our meal, my husband and mom said that the fried clams were nothing to write home about and were a little mushy. And my so called vegetarian stir fry over rice tasted like it was cooked in beef broth. Also, the broccoli that was in the stir fry tasted like fish. The next morning I proceeded to be sick. We went to Schooners based on a recommendation from a co-worker; definitely a dive, could use some fresh paint/carpeting to start. Very good clam chowder - could've used a bit more seasoning or some bacon to give it a bit more flavor but good amount of clams and very creamy. Scallops wrapped in bacon - they were good and the bacon was crispy. I wish there was some kind of dipping sauce that accompanied the dish. My husband ordered a reuben and I got the fish sandwich; both were quite tasty and inexpensive. The piece of fish was huge and accompanying fries hot and crispy. Our server was pleasant and accomodating and w/apps, drinks (wine/beer), a kids meal and sandwiches our bill was only $44. Schooners has been a local staple for years. If you want pretty amazing clam chowder then grab some from here. It has a view of the ocean from the bar and dinning area. It can get busy in the summer and on the weekends. So get there early to avoid the wait since it is a little small inside. I'm a huge fan of their fisherman's platter. It's huge and usually always worth the value. Don't forget to get onion rings and of course...extra tartah! Enjoy the ocean because I sure miss it. Hull is no longer Brockton by the water. It's a beautiful little town that has come a long way over the last 20 years. And in that little town sits a fantastic eatery known as Scooners. We've been here a few times for an early dinner after spending the day at the beach and have had wonderful dishes. Their clam chowder is fabulous, a must try if you go. Great seafood and pasta dishes, last but not least ice cold beer. We usually go on Sunday's and sit in the bar section with the " regulars" who are all in grossed in conversation with the sassy (in a good way) seasoned bartender. This is a local restraint and bar. The bar side seems to always have plenty of people in it and appear to be having a good time. They have a nice selection of sea food and other dishes as well. You feel like you are visiting a local favorite spot that has been there a while but it is clean the food is more than ample and the staff is very nice. My family was leaving Hull, heading in different directions, and we wanted a good lunch before we parted ways. We have been there before but that was pre yelp. We showed up 30 mins before they opened, and it was Artic cold out. They were kind enough to let us in anyway and set us up with drinks. They were very nice considering we showed up before they opened, with fighting kids in tow. The food was great, exactly what we wanted before we left. The chowder is Really good, and they have good seafood. This restaurant is rustic, definitely where the locals go, open year round. Recommend if you are looking for good, not fancy. read more
