Stopped by on our way home from the Cape. We came in the middle of the afternoon, no reservation, and were surprised by how busy it was! The space is big, so they were able to seat us right away with a good view too. Service overall was friendly. We ordered a lobster roll and some seafood. The portion sizes, especially the sides, were very generous. The fries were better than I expected (nice and crispy, not dry). The seafood tasted fresh. My favorite was the salt-pepper shrimp appetizer. I might not get the lobster roll again, because the meat was quite tough. Other than that, it was an excellent last stop of our trip :) read more

I am so happy that I found this restaurant, what a hidden gem. The reviews was also highly rated too. Knowing me I had to call to make sure that the seafood was wild caught and it was not farm raised. The hostess told me everything was fresh minus the salmon that was only farm raised. The wait was not that bad at all - they said a hour in a half but it was definitely shorter then that since a lot of other individuals have left because of the long wait. We probably only waited for about 20 - 30 min. Everything was delicious here from the raw seafood , calmaria and for my dinner entree I got the Schrood which was the wild caught cod , with mashed potatoes and coleslaw it was very very delicious. If you have ever taken a walk along the Nantasket beach or experienced the ups and downs of its boardwalk, you likely have gotten a strong sense of the family atmosphere that pervades this beach. It's fitting then that Jake's Seafood, family-owned and operated for more years that I want to count, is nestled behind the boardwalk strip as a fixture in the area. Seafood is fresh -- and it should be because the restaurant is paired with a seafood market offering everything from tuna to shellfish to prepared foods. This place has their share of regulars which is a good sign. Even if you are new, the attendants will greet you with a smile. My go to here is the swordfish sandwich -- plump, well-cooked and seasoned. Do I wish the fries were thicker and the crab cakes a little lumpier -- sure but I hardly think about that as I take in an ocean view with a glass of cold beer in hand. I have been to Jake's several times and have always loved it. I drive there from one and a half hours away to enjoy their fried clams specifically. I went there a few days ago to have some whole belly clams which cost me 44.95. It was the worst meal I have had probably ever. The clams were tasteless and not at all battered and cooked the way I had them at Jake's before. They were tiny and extremely chewy and like I said, tasteless. The wait person did not ask how the food was otherwise I would have shared my thoughts directly with her. I just paid and left in disgust. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

I've been coming to Jake's my whole life! They really know what they're doing. I got the tuna served black and blue (pretty raw but it's sushi grade). It came with a generous green salad and coleslaw. I could have ordered different sides but I was happy with those. My dad ordered the fish and chips but he got onion rings instead. The great: The haddock chowder The haddock chowder is amazing. You can tell this is homemade and it's just so fresh. The lobster had the entire butter spill in the dish on the way to serve then they brought another butter over, but, it made it near impossible to eat and break with butter all over the shell. Local town seafood spot. Been 3 times now. People rave about the swordfish bites but we found them oily. Onion rings have great texture but sometimes lack salt/flavor. Good flavor in both the clam chowder and lobster bisque. Entrees wise it's hit or miss. I like the grilled shrimp skewer but it's too small for an entree. Crab cakes are too much filler and not fresh tasting. My husband likes the fried fish sandwich. I would really like to order the fresh catch but they have limited fish options - would love if they added a flakey white fish option like a halibut or grouper type. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant! Truly had such a great time here with my bf. The interior is quite large and even they don't take reservations, we had no wait on a Sunday afternoon. I don't remember our server's name, but she was a fabulous and nice woman who made our lunch great! The menu was large and extensive, so we had a hard time narrowing down what we wanted. We got a variety of fried seafood and grilled swordfish. The onion ring portion was huge even though we got a half order, and they were hot and delicious! The amount of seafood we got was huge, too. My favorite was the fried scallops. We also shared the grilled swordfish, which was probably the best thing we ate. I don't really eat a lot of grilled fish, but this was so juicy and fresh. We probably wouldn't order the fried seafood again only because it was too many fried things at once, but would highly recommend the fish. Definitely want to come back to try the lobster rolls. I want to love Jake's because of the location and ambience but have yet to have a good experience there. The food is fine but certainly not the pinnacle of seafood that locals gush over. They can be a little curt, gruff and almost make you feel like they did you a favor by putting your name on the list. We had an experience recently where all four members of our party got violently sick a few hours after eating there (and now other stops before or after). I called to give them a heads up and was chewed out by the person saying that in no way could it have been food poisoning due to the timing. We didn't want money back but just thought they would want to know. I guess it's fine if you are by the beach and want a restaurant that's not one of the places on the main strip, but there are many options on the South Shore that match the quality and service with the price. read more

A light batter, sweet and salty clam flavor, like eating the ocean, pleasantly reminiscent of an inadvertent rinse of seawater in your mouth as a child. ANd all in a good way. Jake's has a great atmosphere and wonderful view! It's located very close to the beaches so it's a great place to grab lunch or dinner after a day at the beach. Our waiter was very friendly and welcoming and we were seated immediately when we walked in on a Monday (Memorial day) at around 4:30pm. It was quite warm out so we opted for a seat indoors and we had a beautiful view of the water from our table by the window. For starters, we ordered the Portuguese style calamari and the Lobster bisque- both were delicious! Next, we ordered the Lobster roll and the Seafood casserole, both of which came with 2 sides. We honestly thought the lobster roll was very average compared to others we have had in New England and at a market price of $39, it's not something we would order again. The seafood in the seafood casserole was definitely fresh but we weren't fans of the mashed potatoes. This was our last evening in Nantasket Beach and we had driven by and decided to stop. It was their first day opening again and they were ready with spacing, sanitizer and antibac in several locations. They had plexiglass between all booths. The staff was so friendly and accommodating answering questions and just making everyone feel right at home. Now for the best part! The seafood is amazing! There is a great assortment! I had delicious crab cakes and lobster bisque that was delicious but only small bits of meat. My daughters battered shrimp were large and delicious too. My grandson wanted fish and chips and gave it a 2 thumbs up! We went to the hotel very full and very happy! They also had a big counter full of fresh seafood that seems to be busy also. Jake's was the shining star of my recent trip to Nantasket Beach in Hull! My partner and I were craving seafood and planned to get something along the beach but Jake's popped up as a recommended restaurant just a couple blocks away so we decided to try and get a table before the evening rush. We sat outside on the deck and had a really pleasant view of the bay and Rocky Neck. We also got the treat of some golden hour sun! The staff was great, everyone was really nice and accommodating, asking us if we needed anything and how the food was. Our server went MIA once but it was starting to get busier inside so we didn't mind too bad. It also took a bit of time to get our food but it was totally worth the wait! For an appetizer, we got the Sautéed Swordfish Tips and they were amazing! So tender and perfectly cooked, pleasantly flavorful, and a surprisingly good zing to the Cajun spice. We absolutely loved these. We also got a Caesar salad that was delicious! For an entree I ordered the Asian Glazed Salmon. The piece of salmon was huge and cooked perfectly, with a great crisp to the skin side. The teriyaki glaze was also really flavorful. The portion was huge and exceeded my expectations! My partner got the Lazy Lobster Casserole and thought it was really tasty. Very good portion of lobster meat. The market price was a little steep but it was worth it for an authentic seaside dining experience. The side of French fries we got was also great, not too salty and perfectly crisp. We went to Jakes last weekend. As always, Jakes didn't disappoint! The steamed mussels are divine! The sauce is just addicting...definitely a family favorite. We also got the raw oysters, shrimp po boy, Caesar salad, chicken breast meal, asian glazed salmon x 2, fried strips, onion rings and chicken finger meal. The baked chicken is my favorite. The chef always makes it how I like it, well done. I really appreciate that. There was also a cocktail or two thrown in! lol! The food was delicious, still not a fan of the gluten free coating but that's ok. Sean was our waiter. He said he has been there 16 years, truthfully he looked too young to be working anywhere for 16 years but I digress! I don't know how we haven't met him before. For a while we were going two - three times a week. He was completely on point. Charismatic, attentive all around great! Truth be told, walking into Jakes is like walking into a relatives home. The family is so friendly and welcoming, the wait staff are all fantastic. Its a wonderful dining experience! Worth the drive! The views are great here and the restaurant has been bright and clean each time we've come here. The takeaway deli section is always great. The guy is always friendly and super helpful and the fish/seafood is always delicious. If you eat in the restaurant... the service is hit or miss. The proteins are always good, but the sides are just kind of MEH/mediocre... as are the cocktails. For the price point I'd expect better sides/better food in general. read more

Been going to Jake's for the last 26 years. While not inexpensive the seafood is of very high quality. Went with our son and his fiancé. Had mussels and calamari for shared appetizers. Scallops, lemon shrimp, salmon and tuna for dinner It was great, service as great as the food. Jake's is open seasonally April to November. The decor is nautical. read more
