The space is big, so they were able to seat us right away with a good view too. Service overall was friendly. We ordered a lobster roll and some seafood. The portion sizes, especially the sides, were very generous. The fries were better than I expected (nice and crispy, not dry). The seafood tasted fresh. Going to Jakes has been somewhat of a tradition for our family every summer for about 25 years. The last couple of years has seen such a decline. This last visit left us with watery clam chowder, over cooked scallops, short rib with 1/3 total fat and the rest just mediocre. Our lunch tab for 7 people was $350. If you come here, don't make the mistake of ordering something like Cajun swordfish, tips, and ask for it not to be Cajun, this has happened to me twice I was with three other diners and my swordfish tips that I asked to not be Cajun came out Cajun. I sent it back and my waitress never once came by to give me the status of my meal and I had absolutely nothing I was not offered bread was not offered butter was not offered any explanation other than at the end of my meal, which I did not have by the way with my three other diners I had to request that my meal be deducted from the check. I sat at your restaurant for one hour and did not have one bite, I'm sorry you can really do better than that and at the very least I would think that instead of me having to ask that you deduct what I did not eat off my bill that you give me something. Shame on you I will absolutely never be back. read more

The table had a window with the most spectacular view of the ocean and marina. Our fish sandwiches arrived quickly and were hot & delicious! The atmosphere was great with nautical decorations. Our waitress was great and encouraged us to take a walk along Nantasket Beach. We can't wait to return and try another seafood meal. Highly recommend! read more

The clams were overpriced for the quantity and quality. They are advertised as small belly, but when told they were about the size of a nickel and what was delivered were barely visible to the eye. I am so happy that I found this restaurant, what a hidden gem. The reviews was also highly rated too. Knowing me I had to call to make sure that the seafood was wild caught and it was not farm raised. The hostess told me everything was fresh minus the salmon that was only farm raised. The wait was not that bad at all - they said a hour in a half but it was definitely shorter then that since a lot of other individuals have left because of the long wait. We probably only waited for about 20 - 30 min. Everything was delicious here from the raw seafood , calmaria and for my dinner entree I got the Schrood which was the wild caught cod , with mashed potatoes and coleslaw it was very very delicious. We also saw a celebrity at the restaurant as well which was very cool. Everyone was very nice there including the staff. I highly recommend going there. read more

Really bad lobster bisque. Like butter with orange food coloring. The worst I've had in my life. I'm surprised they are okay with serving this to customers. If you have ever taken a walk along the Nantasket beach or experienced the ups and downs of its boardwalk, you likely have gotten a strong sense of the family atmosphere that pervades this beach. It's fitting then that Jake's Seafood, family-owned and operated for more years that I want to count, is nestled behind the boardwalk strip as a fixture in the area. Seafood is fresh -- and it should be because the restaurant is paired with a seafood market offering everything from tuna to shellfish to prepared foods. This place has their share of regulars which is a good sign. Even if you are new, the attendants will greet you with a smile. My go to here is the swordfish sandwich -- plump, well-cooked and seasoned. Do I wish the fries were thicker and the crab cakes a little lumpier -- sure but I hardly think about that as I take in an ocean view with a glass of cold beer in hand. Stopped by here to grab lunch. Got the popcorn shrimp and realized it was not cooked- it was still see through and grey. Asked them to fry some more and that I wanted it well done. The second batch was the same. The man working told me that's the way it's supposed to be, that they cooked it for "one minute." I eat shrimp frequently and always have it pink or light white. It was not done and I just left and didn't eat it. Not a great experience and didn't appreciate being "taught" it's fine to eat raw shrimp. read more

Just spectacular! They have a seafood case at the entry where we saw marvelous looking Alaskan halibut. Now we were thinking of their fishing and chips, but we asked Theo, our waiter, if the kitchen could do a fish and chips with that halibut. We went to Jake's during the heatwave. My Dad had been going for years. They treat him like a star and welcome him when when he walks in. Everything was delicious and fresh. The service was also top notch and so was the table we got with a gorgeous water view (and even the booth we sat in was spacious). We had the endive salad to start. If you like endive, it was delicious, generous and impeccably fresh. Then we had lobster rolls with melted butter. My only complaint is that although the melted butter on the side was warm, the lobster in the roll was cold. Normally, when you order warm lobster roll the lobster isn't cold. But having said that, the lobster was fresh and delicious as was the Cole slaw and fries that came with it. Parking is easy. Be prepared for lots of kids as this place is popular with families (we had some "shrieking/screamers" behind us during dinner which hurt the vibe but that isn't anyone's fault but the parents). I have been to Jake's several times and have always loved it. I drive there from one and a half hours away to enjoy their fried clams specifically. I went there a few days ago to have some whole belly clams which cost me 44.95. It was the worst meal I have had probably ever. The clams were tasteless and not at all battered and cooked the way I had them at Jake's before. They were tiny and extremely chewy and like I said, tasteless. The wait person did not ask how the food was otherwise I would have shared my thoughts directly with her. I just paid and left in disgust. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

Price point $18-25 for most entrees, on par with surrounding establishments. Ambiance was lovely. The overlooking harbor is stunning. Food (4/5): - clam chowder: a meal highlight, not too heavy, and oh so savory - onion rings: delicious, lightly battered, non greasy, generous in portion size - fish and chips: very fresh and exceedingly well-cooked haddock, light, slightly underseasoned but still memorable - popcorn shrimp: fresh, nicely seasoned, well-portioned, but not particularly memorable - key lime pie: also solid, nicely balanced tart and sweetness, could have used a bit more butter on the crust, but still a very nice conclusion to the meal read more

I've been coming to Jake's my whole life! They really know what they're doing. I got the tuna served black and blue (pretty raw but it's sushi grade). It came with a generous green salad and coleslaw. I could have ordered different sides but I was happy with those. My dad ordered the fish and chips but he got onion rings instead. The great: The haddock chowder The haddock chowder is amazing. You can tell this is homemade and it's just so fresh. The lobster had the entire butter spill in the dish on the way to serve then they brought another butter over, but, it made it near impossible to eat and break with butter all over the shell. This is my new favorite restaurant! Truly had such a great time here with my bf. The interior is quite large and even they don't take reservations, we had no wait on a Sunday afternoon. I don't remember our server's name, but she was a fabulous and nice woman who made our lunch great! The menu was large and extensive, so we had a hard time narrowing down what we wanted. We got a variety of fried seafood and grilled swordfish. The onion ring portion was huge even though we got a half order, and they were hot and delicious! The amount of seafood we got was huge, too. My favorite was the fried scallops. We also shared the grilled swordfish, which was probably the best thing we ate. I don't really eat a lot of grilled fish, but this was so juicy and fresh. We probably wouldn't order the fried seafood again only because it was too many fried things at once, but would highly recommend the fish. Definitely want to come back to try the lobster rolls. Local town seafood spot. Been 3 times now. People rave about the swordfish bites but we found them oily. Onion rings have great texture but sometimes lack salt/flavor. Good flavor in both the clam chowder and lobster bisque. Entrees wise it's hit or miss. I like the grilled shrimp skewer but it's too small for an entree. Crab cakes are too much filler and not fresh tasting. My husband likes the fried fish sandwich. I would really like to order the fresh catch but they have limited fish options - would love if they added a flakey white fish option like a halibut or grouper type. read more

I want to love Jake's because of the location and ambience but have yet to have a good experience there. The food is fine but certainly not the pinnacle of seafood that locals gush over. They can be a little curt, gruff and almost make you feel like they did you a favor by putting your name on the list. We had an experience recently where all four members of our party got violently sick a few hours after eating there (and now other stops before or after). I called to give them a heads up and was chewed out by the person saying that in no way could it have been food poisoning due to the timing. We didn't want money back but just thought they would want to know. I guess it's fine if you are by the beach and want a restaurant that's not one of the places on the main strip, but there are many options on the South Shore that match the quality and service with the price. read more

A light batter, sweet and salty clam flavor, like eating the ocean, pleasantly reminiscent of an inadvertent rinse of seawater in your mouth as a child. ANd all in a good way.
