Stellar transition to outdoor dining and a flawless curbside pickup process. The fam did two rounds of togo from ye Olde Salte Housee, and my kids will eat anything in front of them, so by default the chargrilled hot dog and a parmesan crusted grilled cheese win by default. My lobster roll, admittedly, was just okay (a bit underseasoned and understuffed) for the price, but the fries were on point! The best part of parking waterfront to enjoy a hatchback picnic is we're literally four seconds from the resto, so everything was fresh and hot. Our next visit, I went fish tacos and the taste was tremendous. The fish, howe'er, doesn't travel well, esp with such a light fry. Buyer beware - and I don't hold OSH responsible for "fish mushification by transport." With staged opening, the patio is getting (scarily) packed, and the staff is keeping to state guidelines... even if the patrons aren't. Overpriced and weak food cooked in a trailer and served on a pretty patio on the water. Plastic utensils, a backed-up kitchen and poor service made for a disappointing meal. My broiled scallops ($25) were overpowered by red pepper and the accompanying "salad" (with Ken's dressing pack) was seemingly bagged. Small ($22) fish sandwich didn't come as ordered. Okay, where do we start... The food is awesome, lobster Roll Is giant, tons of lobster and NOT saturated in mayo. The fried Clams... the batter is light and the clams are sweet. Early in the pandemic, I really liked Olde Salt House. Too bad so that food quality and service took a dive. Lobster and Blue Crab Dip, brussel sprouts and calamari were not impressive. Worse was that the staff was hopelessly overwhelmed. Getting anyone to pay attention was a struggle. I paid inside as no one made it to our table in 20 minutes after we finished despite people were waiting to get seated. I guess the location is popular that the staff doesn't have to stretch themselves. Or is it the management? Just not our best experience. read more

We have been coming to Olde Salt House for years. It is a pleasant tavern with an outdoor dining spot next door to Atlantica with a view of Cohasset Cove. Under new ownership, it reopened this summer with improvement in both food and service. The deck along the water is currently closed and needs repair so the tables have been moved to the paved area outside the tavern. On nice days the seating outside fills up soon after opening. Service was professional and efficient. The food is delicious and we enjoyed the fried seafood (fresh, perfectly cooked) and lobster rolls (sweet, lightly dressed). The simple cocktails we ordered were well balanced. Decent wines by the glass. Reasonable selection of craft beers though I ordered a Corona because I'm susceptible to its advertising. If the town allows it I would love a new deck with outdoor bar and a dock to park my friend's boat! read more

I was not a fan of some staff members. My paratransit dropped me off less than five minutes before opening and a busboy, with a bit more attitude than I would have liked, said I couldn't be seated yet. I said I'd wait by the hostess station. He looked less than happy but just walked away. Then a waitress came over, seeing the handicapped accessible van, and was willing to seat me seeing it was now about 2 minutes before opening. Another waitress came over and said I couldn't be seated because they turned others away. When I told her it was 2-3 minutes before opening, she looked defeated. Considering there was less than a handful of people on the waiting list and maybe 20 tables, seating me two minutes early was obviously not an issue. No other customers complained. My ride home was more than a half hour late. The same waitress insisted I call again to find out where they were. I took it, according to her tone, that she wanted me out. But the waitress that sat me, Karen, and my waiter/bartender Warren, were great. I found my new favorite place for fried clams. The clam chowder tasted very good, a bit thin though, but very tasty. I was very cold and wanted something hot to warm me up. Maybe because it was so early the soup hadn't had time to heat up but I'd order it again. The only other issue I had was they kept the front door open, contributing to my being cold (staff kept saying they were cold too) and one fly kept flying around me and my food. When I was waiting for my ride home, I saw there were maybe ten swarming around the ceiling. And I also saw at least three staff members in the kitchen working with food or plates, utensils, etc. who were not wearing masks. Despite what another customer (Mark, you know who you are!) told me about people in the back can get away without a mask, as someone who is in multiple risk groups for any of a variety of respiratory issues, I was not happy that someone could cough or sneeze when preparing my food or cleaning utensils I might use and then risk my health read more

Went to the salt house yesterday for lunch. They had quite the crowd outdoors. We checked in with the hostess and was promptly seated. We ordered the calamari to start. It was perfectly crispy with fried calamari and pepper pieces. I ordered the lobster roll for my main meal. It was a cold roll vs. being warm with butter. It was very filling. While the setting on the water is beautiful, our dining experience tonight was terrible. The wrong entree was delivered to the table, French fries were cold and soggy and the chicken was like shoe leather. Asked the waitress for tomato so the chicken sandwich wouldn't be so dry and she shows up with it after we were done. Never even asked if we wanted a second drink or refilled the water glasses. It wasn't that busy tonight and at the end of the season this should be all worked out. Bad service, bad food. Won't be back for a long time if ever. read more

After 4 months of quarantine, Olde Salt House finally open under new management with COVID-19 guidelines and outdoor seating. Great to be out on and nice picture perfect summer evening. Waited about 40 minutes for seating and was worth it. Friendly masked service from the hostess to waitresses to bus help and manager. We ordered the Mongolian chicken for starters. the lobster roll and jambalaya for entrees and finished off with the strawberry shortcake and chocolate mousse. All the dishes were nice proportions and delicious. Fairly priced. Can't beat the view of the sunset on Cohasset Harbor. Definitely return soon to try the other items on the menu. read more

We had lunch there yesterday out on the patio. The view was great and the patio is beautiful, but that's about the only positives. Our sever brought us drinks and grabbed around the rim to set the glasses down... gross. We had ice tea and soda, charged $6 each for an 8 oz cup and never offered a refill. The side salads were served in a fry basket with parchment paper. The fish and chips was the worse I've ever had. The fries were good, but the fish was awful. There was no batter and no flavor. The burger as clearly a frozen Sysco special. The food is served out of a food truck next to the patio... which was fine until the cooks and servers started yelling back and forth to each other across the patio. It was just a hot mess and it wasn't even busy. We came to have a nice lunch and had a very disappointing experience, to say the least. It was so good last time we were there, but after spending $112 on subpar food and trash service... we will never go back. read more

Well, the construction on the patio overlooking the harbor is done but the place has nonetheless sunk into the coastal muck in terms of food and service. Waited a good 15 minutes at the bar on a Tuesday for a beer and a ($15 house) wine, with an admittedly overwhelmed bartender. The tables and chairs are short for some reason, giving the impression of your 3rd grade desk. The young waiter postulated that lobster would qualify as a vegetarian addition to my wife's salad. My fish sandwich must've been bluegill, fried for days, and hidden somewhere in the Texas toast. And the new patio railing blocks the view of the harbor, which is otherwise why you come here in the first place. Can we not do better in Cohasset?? read more

I bought a COBB Salad with steak tips came to $ 43.00. The salad was put in two (2) boxes making the presentation terrible. The salad was skimpy, and small. Great location on the water, large outdoor seating area with a view. The service was polite but inattentive, very young and inexperienced staff, certainly will improve with time. The food? Didn't love it. Calamari was tough and bland, however looked fantastic. No plates brought with the app, or upon request, again, lack of attention. Fried clams were good, however coleslaw was not good, mainly raw cabbage. Fish tacos had a strange cream/sour cream sort of sauce, way too much and really didn't work with the dish, all meals visually looked great. Warm draft beer... Would I try it again? Yes. I went here for the first time today , what a great location and beautiful view! The service was good. Now for the food, my husband ordered the fried clams very traditional new England lunch. He enjoyed his meal. I ordered the ahi tuna and totally forgot to ask if the seafood was fresh, then again you would think having lunch on the water dining in a coastal town the tuna would have been fresh!! We moved to Cohasset at the beginning of quarantine so we've been ecstatic to try all of the restaurants in the area. Having seen the previous reviews when OSH was under other management, our expectations were set super low. Now that the patio is open - THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. The cocktails are delicious (I've had a lot of margs in my day... and I foresee myself drinking many more here), the food is fresh and tasty, and you cannot beat the location. On top of that, the service is great. Which is more than I can say for other restaurants on the water. A+ read more

Wonderful Saturday afternoon lunch with a friend. The staff was exceptional. Being on Cohasset Harbor on any day is ok with me. The Bartenderess Rachael and I'm guessing the manager ( very interesting gentleman) were so cordial and friendly and seemed very experienced. The uniform apron was sooo cute! Just like a " barmaid " at Octoberfest. Didn't understand the connection to the sea but it was cute. This visit was all about the service!!! read more

We just moved to Cohasset and we have been very happy with both the food and the service at the Olde Salt House. The lobster roll was delicious and the greens along side it were perfectly lightly dressed. My husband had the scallops and they were clearly fresh and sweet. Service was fantastic. Come here for the view and drinks, not the food or fast service. This was our first time at this beautiful waterfront location, unfortunately we left pretty disappointed. We ordered the fried calamari app, fish tacos and Cohasset harbor cobb with falafel. It took 30 minutes for our food to come and the app came with the entrees. As the salad is brought to the table our waitress informs us they are out of falafel and we can substitute another protein. Salad and fish tacos make a U turn before they hit the table and went back to the kitchen while grilled shrimp is added, needless to say the tacos were cold by their second trip out of the kitchen. But at least this gave us time to eat the calamari as a true app and not the side dish to our entrees as it was originally brought out as. Unfortunately the calamari was way over fried and the Cobb salad lacked dressed and hardly passed as a cob (see the picture). But the view was great and drinks were cold and for the most part everyone wore their masks and followed covid precautions. We'd come back for outdoor drinks but never again for food. read more

Went for dinner and drinks and ended up leaving after one app and a round of drinks. The app came at least 10 minutes before we got any drinks and the shrimp app and margarita weren't great. Zero service they kept saying sorry that they were in between two restaurants ? So that makes it okay we were ignored.. Went to have lunch on a beautiful fall afternoon and left disappointed. We have eaten here before and it has generally been a good experience. After waiting almost an hour for our food, each of our fish tacos consisted of a small ,over fried piece of fish in a cold tortilla with a small amount of shredded cabbage. For our appetizer, the calamari pieces were small and heavily fried. The view is wonderful and we enjoyed sitting out with our drinks . The waiter was nice but the service was very slow. Fantastic experience at Olde Salt House! The tables outside are spaced extremely well and Matt was a wonderful, very attentive and friendly waiter. The food was delicious, came out quick, and served nice and hot. Cocktails were wonderful as well! We came for our 1 year anniversary from the Red Lion and I am still so pleasantly surprised at how much all of these establishments have improved under the new ownership.
