Craving a good burger, and this place delivered. What I ate: - Cowboy burger: bbq sauce, onion rings, bacon. This burger really hit the spot. Nothing crazy, but totally filled my craving. Came with a side of skinny fries. - Crab cakes: These were okay. There was an okay mix of crab and filler, with plenty of sauce. Came on a bed of fresh lettuce topped with roasted corn salsa. I think a nice option as an appetizer if you have people who aren't into raw/fresh seafood. Pros: - Location, location, location. Literally right across from the beach, if you sit upstairs you get a great view while eating. Even on their patio, you can opt to sit at the stools looking out back. - Ordered my food to go, and all the staff were friendly. - Little to go order window at the back of the restaurant. I did have to walk through the patio area to ask the hostess for help. - Plenty of parking in front and behind the restaurant, especially at night. - Price was right - I did not eat in, but it seemed to have a nice rowdy atmosphere at "night." We went late last night And did not really get the best service. I ordered her a cabernet for 15 dollars, But it did not taste the price. If you like wine you will know When you have wine that is not really good quality. The hostess was a bit reluctant to sit us down last night.We got there at eight fifteen pm but she ignored me until I grabbed her attention like 10 minutes after... so sad. also and they close at 9pm. But this is not the first time that we have a hard time being sat down by the hostess. The waitress was very sweet. I ordered my cab, tea for my kids and a desert. The desert looked lovely but it took very long it was very awkward waiting so long. When I say they're kinda bad service I mean no napkins given just Very minimum interaction. As I waited I heard other customers who were also upset w the service and even complained about the bar service as well. The one star was for the fish and ships and French fries which were really good. However the service was terrible. Long wait to order. Long wait for food. No one refilling water glasses. Had to ask someone to get our waitress two times. My husband's clam chowder was cold. They brought him a second bowl. Also cold. Super disappointed with this place. We arrived on Monday at 7:30pm and the hostess stated it's a 45min wait. I said it's fine and she goes the kitchen will close at 8:30pm, I asked what happens if we get in and the kitchen is closing? She basically just shrugged her shoulders and was like "oh well". I responded saying so we wait 45mins and once we get in the kitchen closes and we're just out of luck? She seemed hesitant and just said I'm just letting you know the kitchen will close. Confused and already put off by the service we were discussing to leave and she comes and says a table just opened up but inside do you guys want it? Since it was already late and with 2 kids we decided to just stay. We started off with the clam chowder which was excellent! Then ordered the NY Prime steak, Halibut and a cheeseburger and kids meal burger. The steak unfortunately was the worse I've ever had! It was super tough, and looked like a cheap cut of frozen steak. On top the crispy onion was probably also store bought and horribly old. Very disappointing. Halibut was ok as was the burger, but again fries also probably frozen. Holy cow! This was the BEST fish & chips I have ever had! My standards are usually set pretty low with fish & chips...not today. These were fried to the PERFECT golden color. And oh so tasty! And the yummy cocktails just made lunch a treat! Don't even get me started on Elise who was such a joy as a server. She made our lunch even more spectacular than expected! Honestly so disappointed. The vibe was great, our table was great, the live music was great...everything else, not so much. The waitress acted like she was trying to be an influencer and spoke in that weird drawl where the end of her sentences were lilting up so everything was a question. And the food was not good. The ahi tuna in the tacos was cooked completely through. Any good seafood restaurant knows that's a faux paux. The fish and chips was Alaskan cod, so previously frozen and had zero taste, save the flavor of fryer grease. There are much better places to eat on the central coast that offer fresh fish. Had the best solo dinner here. Everything from beginning to end was perfect- The hostess couldn't have been nicer and I was seated in the bar which had a 10/10 view. The bartender, Marissa was so sweet, efficient, and made some great recommendations. I went with the petit surf and turf- being from New England, my lobster experience on the west coast has been hit or miss. But the lobster tail here was huge, meaty, and so fresh. The steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare, and the seasonal veggies + mashed potatoes were fantastic as well. There definitely wasn't anything "petit" about this dish and it felt like a steal for $36. If you go as a group, I'd recommend getting the cookie skillet for dessert. It comes piping hot with a heap of vanilla ice cream- definitely a little aggressive for one person but still worth it ;) Highly recommend Schooners for anyone visiting Cayucos. Really disappointing experience. Place looked cute from the outside, but turned out to be kind of a dive inside. Food was OK at best - more like overpriced bar food. The live band wasn't bad, but the music was way too loud for the space, making it hard to have a conversation. Worst of all was the service. The waitress was unpleasant (and seemed as if she might have been a bit stoned), drink orders took forever and didn't arrive until shortly before our food was served, and our appetizers were forgotten completely. There was no attempt at a "make good" (like comping a dessert or the missing appetizers) for our trouble. We won't be back. read more

We have eaten at Schooners many times and have always been happy with the food and service. Being able to see the water and sunset is always a bonus. We were very disappointed with the clam chowder and our server. We were traveling with a friend from AZ, she wanted clam chowder. We thought that we had just the place, but it wasn't that way the day we visited. The 3 of us were seated quickly and our orders were taken. We all ordered water, calamari and clam chowder. Food came quickly, but tge server didn't have much time for us after that, maybe because we weren't ordering cocktails? Not sure, but we had to ask for salt, pepper and hot sauce. The salt and pepper came after asking again. Calamaricwas great, but I have never had clam chowder so watered down and I have never had crunchy celery in it before! The service here was awful. It literally took 35 minutes for someone to come by and take our order, and another 40 minutes to get it. Forget drink or water refills. We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for the upstairs patio we're told that the upstairs was full went and looked and there were 3 tables available. Were put in a downstairs dinning room with no view and waited 20 minutes for a server to even come by. Still no server... will not be back. Food is mediocre and service is horrible. When we got into Morrow Bay we came here for drinks and apps. This place has an amazing roof top deck. We got one of the best seats right in front of the ocean! We ordered a glass of local wine and beer both were great. We got a cup of clam chowder and crab cakes. The clam chowder was pretty good. The crab cake was tasty but had a southwestern flare to it because it had jalapeños, bell pepper, and onions in it. Overall, the view makes this place and the food is pretty good. read more

Tired again the next day and they couldn't be bothered to shred my halibut so instead I had a chunk of fish. The beans and rice were bland. Got a salad with chicken and it was dry. They asked for our names for our food and yet we had to ask if it was ready - which it was, meaning it had been sitting. When we ordered, a lady had been waiting 15 minutes for a drink. She got sick of waiting so she got a refund of the difference in price and got a beer. I'm not one to give bad Yelp reviews lightly. I typically only send good Yelp reviews. But literally my entire experience was bad - 2 days in a row (one in the evening and the other in the early afternoon the next day). You'll see the response from the business is quite childish which just reinforces my comments about bad service. As opposed to taking responsibility they reply in a combative manner and make fun. We had different cuts / sizes of Harris ranch steak, all ordered medium rare, but arrived medium, somewhat tough and cold (although tasty). However the food and service aren't the complaint. Schooner's needs to decide if it wants to be a restaurant or a second rate nightclub. The obnoxious 'entertainment' in such a confined space during dinner hour was deafening. Blaring off tune rock lyrics to 100dB instrumentals literally caused impaired hearing. Not only did the waiter have a hard time and visa versa, but how inconsiderate to seat people for dinner, then allow such intrusive screeching. Seriously? How about serenading the after dinner crowd instead. When the lead started doing shots while performing we asked for our food to go, fortunately we were told it would end soon. Regrettably , the ringing in our ears lasted much longer than our dinner. Btw our party had millennials, however we ran into several older couples after dinner that were discussing the same grievance. A great day spent watching the Polar Bear Dip. We got there around 10:30 ordered a couple bloody Mary's - really very good. We decided to order a lot of different appetizers so that we could try a few things. The legendary calamari, has always been one of our favorites. It seems like it's cut out of the steaks of calamari- into thick strips, the breading is really good. It is served with a combination of tartar sauce and red cocktail sauce. The Aji egg rolls were fresh crispy and actually very delicious with an Asian dipping sauce. The guacamole tacos were missing the cheese, but they were pretty good. My personal favorite was the barbecued oysters. Succulent and a very nice sauce. This was a really great opportunity to try a lot of different food from Schnoors and we enjoyed it all. read more

A great place to watch the sunset! We were in this little town (Cayucos) to snag some Brown Butter Cookies (If you don't know what i'm talking about, Yelp them, and RUN!). And my husband and I wanted to catch a beach sunset since it would be coming any minute. We asked the team at BBC where we could get a cocktail + watch it within walking distance and they recommended Schooners. It is definitely a fun, local spot at Happy Hour! Everyone seemed to know each other which was pretty fun. We sat on their outside deck and had a great view of happy hour! We ordered a drink and nachos. The nachos didn't knock our socks off but definitely took the hunger edge off! Their happy hour is inside their upstairs bar only and was a great deal so i'd highly suggest that! I'm not sure we will be back. Your service has gotten horrible. Tried getting service on Sunday twice. Sat at the downstairs bar. Bartender acknowledged us ..... then served two other parties..... then updated her tips from credit cards.... Then continued to serve people who arrived after us. When we had the audacity to say something, she told us she didn't like our attitude. So we left. Friday at 5ish we sat at the same bar. The bartender was fast, efficient, and friendly.
