Brought my daughter and grandkids who are visiting from out of the country to a restaurant that had always been good, courteous and fun. Not one of these qualities were displayed at our visit. I was reprimanded for not allowing a host to seat us( no one was there and the sign was hidden from view), then we were told that we could not sit in a certain area because they would not allow one extra chair to be placed... ok, move on. Next it was an attitude of not placing our drinks quick enough and when I requested a clean spoon( and it truly was unwashed ) it took the waiter 5 minutes to return with a clean one in which time my chowder turned cold. Food was good though. It was reassuring to see we were not the only ones treated unkindly, the table next to us received the attitude that the restaurant was not interested in their patronage. To be fair, they had their chance. I addressed it the moment I found out and was given their word that they will immediately deal with it. I gave them enough time to deal with it and nothing happened. I even mentioned that I chose to talk to them first so that they could properly resolve it instead of jumping straight to the review. Well, nothing happened...so here's the review: It is *only* $3 so I didn't even bother disputing it on my credit card. But for all of you who have accounting/business backgrounds know that the famous unaccounted two cents throws everything into a mess with someone somewhere having to spend (often) an eternity going through all the numbers until they find what caused it. Well, it took me nearly 30 minutes to figure out where it was since it had been a business traveling week and I had quite the number of receipts to go through. $3 was added to my total bill. I have neat handwriting - everyone comments on that. I practice good accounting (not due to the MBA but out of personal preference). So where did it go wrong? Human error. Definitely not mine. When a customer calls you to handle it (and says it's not about the money but the principle), you better deal with it. Because if you don't, it is the same as "stealing" in this case. And once again, when the matter isn't the money but the principle, you know this review is eventually coming and probably going to be take away more than your initial $3 gain. Why? Besides the mistake...I'm actually going to point out that your food was a total shame. It wasn't just like someone in your kitchen had a *bad* day - a really bad one. It was more like someone in your kitchen didn't give a flying *$&%^* anymore. Think about it...anything that comes out of the fryer should be in the very least crispy - not soggy, not SOGGY...not OILY SOGGY like a piece of meat that didn't deserve its martyrdom. Small town, limited amount of places to choose from; but seriously, just steer clear of this particular spot. It is *not* worth the effort at all. Located on the beach where the top deck overlooks the pier. Very nice scenery and not crowded just comfortable. Staff was awesome and the chicken nachos were so delicious with the chipotle sauce! To top it off, it was a gorgeous day in Cayucos!! We stayed to take best seats for the evening's sunset!! read more

Didn't get to experience anything. Called for a take out order to be told that "Surf and Turf" item on their website menu is a "special" and they don't prepare those to go. Cayucos sucks. People want to believe it's a charming beach bar. And in theory it could be, the location the funky set up, the view are all great, but the service is non existent and I'm talking about over the course of several years and several visits. The hostesses are lost, the wait staff are even worse, and it's not like standard slower beach service, it's like sometimes you have to ask several staff ppl who are standing around or simply skipping your table to get your initial drinks ordered, they routinely fail to bring all of the food ordered and several times the order has been wrong. It could be such an awesome place if they could just get the service end of it figured out. read more

We just got asked to leave the restaurant after getting oysters/food/drinks, and within 10 minutes of being there, without getting ANY PROPER REASON behind why we were asked to leave.... when I asked why this is happening, words of "I don't want to make a scene" were used, what scene was made?? Got a nice outside ocean view table right at lunchtime on a Friday. The service was friendly, food was good and bloody Mary's were a nice addition to lunch. I enjoyed my BLT with fries and my spouse said the ahi tacos were pretty good! All in all a perfect spot to stop for lunch! read more

I love this place. Been here a couple times and the food is great. For appetizers I Recommend the calamari trips and for dinner I recommend the halibut with garlic sauce. I've been to this place several times in the past 10 years. Last Saturday's experience was the worst I've had at any restaurant. The steak was like shoe leather (way overcooked), mashed potatoes were cold, the brocolli tepid, they were out of a lot of stuff that we would have ordered... It was one thing after another. The waiter was very gracious, but the manager of this place needs to know that it has really gone downhill. Even the outside of the place is in need of a major facelift and some maintenance. My family and I have been here several times, and not one thing has ever been memorable, except for strong cocktails, which is probably why the bar is always full of locals. The food is okay. The service is spotty. The view is good of course. It seems from recalling our prior meals and my most recent that the staff all seem to care more about giving good service to the locals that patronize this restaurant. We didn't get bad service by any means, it's just you can tell whom received attention and who didn't. I really hate asking for the basics, like napkins, silverware, refills on water, a clean wine glass for wine...but we had to ask for each one of those things throughout our meal. The most entertaining thing about our meal was watching the bartender play literal grab ass with one of the servers all night. I guess they're a couple? But save the kissing and ass spanking for after you punch out. I do see how the gentleman that responds to the reviews seems to enjoy responding; but that doesn't make your food any better or the service any more attentive. We came here partially out of desperation. We had wanted to try another restaurant in town, but they told us to expect a 45 minute wait to be seated... Even though their place was almost completely empty. Go figure. It was their loss, as we walked down the street and found Schooners. For starters, this place is right on the beach and offered a great perch to enjoy the lovely Central Coast sunset. I also appreciated their wine list, which is full of SLO area wines. I opted for a local Chardonnay, and I wasn't disappointed. I also wasn't disappointed with the food. After we were served some warm bread with butter, I got a full plate of seafood pasta. It may not have been the prettiest dish, but it was full of great flavor. I particularly enjoyed the sweet scallops and succulent shrimp, and the tomato cream sauce did the job in bringing everything together. Schooners wasn't my original choice for a nice dinner in Cayucos, but it became one of those "beautiful accidents" that actually worked out in my favor. They were out of the drink my daughter wanted (hot chocolate) ,my chicken was refrigerator cold on my bbq salad :( The waitress was sweet and quickly corrected it and brought me out a side of warm chicken. Great upstairs patio that overlooks the beach! The service, our hostess Michele, over estimated the wait time and came and grabbed us in mere minutes!! Then we met Jack our server who was on it! And they have awesome blood Mary's! In fact I had 2 because I could!! And then the food! The halibut fish and chips (we subbed onion rings for an up charge of $2) were a little too greasy but were super light and tasty!! This restaurant is much smaller than it appears to be when you look at the photos on yelp. Even though, it is seafaring stylish and has great food. The four of us ordered the Alaskan cod with battered fries. Delicious. As we are sitting eating we saw several plates come out for other tables that were piled high with food.
