We LOVE this place. . We stay in Morro bay and always come to visit this place and have a Bloody Mary inside the bar area. This year we have a new baby so we sat out on the patio and it was nice. Ordered our bloody Mary's and tried the guacos. I thought it was chips and guacamole but it ended up being like tacos. They were ok but I wouldn't get them again. I could have sworn there was nachos on the menu but didn't see it. read more

Super good fish and chips, not bland like other ones. They also have the option of sweet potato fries instead of regular fries.

We Love the food at Schooners, they are consistently preparing a good meal, great service and dog friendly.. my only caveat is the comfort is lacking, they could do a little upgrade in that department. Otherwise our go-2 favorite in Cayucos. read more

Great view, atmosphere & service! I'm a first timer here so when scanning the menu I always think should I try their crab cakes. Crab cakes are very subjective. I want to be perfectly clear, I've never had one I liked UNTIL TODAY. They weren't full of bread crumbs, fillers or any weird stuff, Just crab. Yes they were soft & what I suppose some could call squishy. I LOVED THEM! With the corn salsa & greens. My only regret is I didn't ask for a third for an up charge. A friend brought me here. I will be back I promise!!! read more

I love this local pub! If you're looking for a place where you can get a good drink and food, hang out with small-beach-town locals, and watch the ocean, this is the place. The staff are great too! Come on one of their music nights... I highly recommend it! read more

Back to schooners, a year later. Honestly, I have no complaints. We were seated quickly, and our food came out quick as well. We got the clam chowder in a bread bowl, fries, and schooners tacos with ahi. All three were phenomenal! The tacos were fresh and had a nice kick of spice. The fries were TO DIE FOR. (I think the ketchup was homemade, it was pretty decent). My friend had the clam chowder and she enjoyed it. Overall the best experience I've had at this restaurant so far. read more

Great local spot for food, drinks, and live entertainment. If you are visiting Cayucos, Schooners cannot be missed. From the cool upstairs bar overlooking the ocean and pier, to the delicious seafood menu items, and the great live music on the weekends. Highly recommend the bbq oysters, crab cakes, and the best calamari I have ever had! Don't worry if you don't love seafood they also have amazing burgers and steak options as well. Gets crowded on the weekends for good reason and is worth the wait! Plus the outside patio is dog friendly. read more

I ordered take-out and it was ready like in 15 minutes, that was pretty quick. To pick up you had to go to the back so I drove and parked on the ocean front parking lot and I was right there, the sign shows pick up, problem is I got there and waited, you can see the cooks working and stood there about 5 minutes, they have a bell but I hated to be rude but had to ring it. The cooks saw me ringing it but ignored me. So after another 5 minutes I had to go to the entrance where people were waiting to be seated, again I didn't want to be rude so I waited till everyone was attended another 5 minutes, then the hostess told me to wait, again I waited patiently till she came back and I told her I ordered for pickup and before I can explain any more she interrupted and said go to the back. I explained what I did and she stopped another associate and asked him to take over. That associate was nice, he went to the back and asked my name and wow, there it was on the rack waiting for me, makes me think when I first got there I could of just leaned over and snagged it. I was happy the food was still hot, the lobster Mac n cheese didn't look all that exciting but don't let appearance fool you, this was the best Mac n cheese ever! I'm not a Mac n cheese fan but I will definitely order this when I come back through Cayucos. The fish and chips were OK, nothing to brag about, just happy it wasn't cold and oily. Just hope next time I come through that they pay attention to the take out area. read more

Schooners is a a 'Cayucos cultural' event. Many go there to appreciate the local color and its also one of only two establishments in Cayucos with a full liquor license in Cayucos. Owner Brendan's vast improvements to this restaurant cannot be appreciated without having seen this establishment in the now decade or so past. In terms of the veritable structure itself and the ambience, its night-and-day. I do miss the pot-bellied wood stove that once adorned the middle of the downstairs area but I guess it took too much space. Part of this 'Cayucos culture' scene is outdoor live music at Schooners every Sunday and some holidays. The bar scene is still where its at but it still has that same form factor that some might find too small especially when the weather is inclement. Perhaps it will grow someday since Schooner's now owns the two side-by-side properties. There are bar stools with brass plates of favored patrons on the rear, and a bucket list on the wall. Schooner's is not a fine dining scene but burgers are great as are the ahi egg rolls , ahi sashimi, the ahi entree and the ahi salad. The wine selection is improved but not close to what you find at Cafe della Via, however, distilled liquors of every variety are available for consumption. read more

Great view and nice selection of draft beers. We arrived about 4 in the afternoon and were seated outside to watch the Sun set. The beer was cold and the selection of drafts was good enough to satisfy 4 craft brew drinkers. The burgers were well received and the patty melt hit the spot. read more

I read a bunch of reviews before going here. This restaurant is a solid 4-star restaurant so I'm giving it a 5 to pull up the average! Here's what to expect: good seafood, great local vibe, nice staff, good ambiance w the ocean waves crashing in the background. The food was great, the service was slow but hey, they were busy all we know restaurants are a bit understaffed right now. Seems to be what a lot of people are complaining about... if you're in a rush, this may not be your place. But if you're looking for a good, relaxed meal w some local flavor, this is a must-stop in Cayucos. We had the crab cakes for appetizer and the seafood pasta and the Cioppino which were both stuffed with seafood, flavorful, and delicious! We enjoyed some wine and cocktails as well. I would recommend as long as you have some patience. Let's remember, we're all doing our best :) read more

It was a beautiful day for a drive, so we ended up in Cayucous. We stopped by Schooners for a drink. After perusing the menu, we decided to have lunch. We ordered the halibut n chips and halibut n coleslaw. The fried halibut was lightly battered and very tasty. The fries were crispy and delicious. The grilled halibut was awesome, tender, and succulent. The bed of Asian slaw that it rested on was delicious! Kudos to the kitchen staff. As a bonus, we ran into a couple from our hometown and had s great conversation. read more

Recommended by our host at the Inn and what a great place! The fresh calamari was simply the best and the cod was at the top of the list for some of the best we've eaten during our journey along the coast. Service was excellent and the views up top while dining all added to a wonderful first evening in Cayucos, CA. read more

This review is not for the food! I am a 50 year resident of San Luis Obispo/Los Osos so this restaurant is not new to me. I have eaten here many times over the years and love the Calamari. But I have just returned from my 2nd visit in 3 mos where service both times have forced me to leave before ordering. This recent time had me standing at the bar without ever any acknowledgement to me from the bartender. After 15 min, I finally asked if this was where he wanted me to order? He replied, it will be awhile, I'm really busy with a lot going on. We then stood there for another 10 min. Clearly not wanting our business....we left. read more

Excellent food. Had the macronia and cheese with the lobster and shrimp! Great band playing. Fun times

This Schooners is nothing like Schooners in Monterey. This place more like a burger joint. If you are going for fish and chips or for a burger, it's ok. My coho salmon had partially cooked grainy rice. My husband asked for mayonnaise for his burger, but he did not get it until I was half done with my food. Our waiter never came back to ask how we liked our food or if we needed anything else either. I hate to say this, but we received more than five stars experience at Lunada restaurant. read more

Conservatively giving 2 stars. I was told by everyone the reason to go here is for the Lobster Mac, did a 2 hour drive for this amazing food. took a while to get seated without a reservation(understandable/not a problem) drinks were good with a heavy pour(+), food took over an hour to come out(-) problem was not a single piece of lobster was in the mac, they sub shrimp but charged for lobster, and for the price a serious WTF(-) small portion about 5-6 bites(-) just be mindful of what comes out. Not impressed and fvck all mad I drove 2 hours for shrimp. read more

We have been here many times but last night we felt unwelcome, hostess was talking to a boy told us to seat ourselves even if it was upstairs. Schooners was a great spot to have dinner at, after a long day of traveling. We tried the clams in a white wine sauce, the crab cakes and the pesto risotto! Each dish was a hit! We ordered more garlic bread just to dip into the clam broth. We sat upstairs and you really can't beat the views. Staff was awesome as well! I know when you read the reviews they say that wait times for dishes take a bit but I feel like they are making things truly as they get orders so just take that to mind. If you want good food it's worth it. We can't wait to try some lunch items before we leave! read more

Almost didn't come because of the reviews but really Great service, great food and we didn't wait around at all. Will come again!

I took my family to Cayucos for 4 days for my moms 65th birthday, and she wanted to try this place out. First off, where the hell do you find a person to seat you? Very very confusing entry to this place. And it wasn't just us, over the 2hrs we were there we saw numerous people walk in, be confused, look around and then walk out. There was no clear hostess anywhere to be found. Very odd. Finally my wife found a nice lady that told us to "sit wherever". So we are seated, talking and waiting to get menus.... and finally we get some waters. Then the waiters disappeared again. No menus, no silverware, and at this point we are thinking we made a mistake coming here. So we send one of the kids over to snag a menu for my mom to look at, because she is all excited for her birthday dinner. She looks on it, finds something she likes, only to be told when a waitress finally appears that it is the "lunch" menu. She proceeds to hand us menus that are exactly the same, but twice as expensive for the "dinner" menu. Later on, a nice man shows up and tells us HE will be our server for the evening! Nice, only been here 30 minutes Before we saw him.....and this place is not crowded at all, so........ So long story short, I ended up getting a New York strip for 29$ and it was just ok. Nothing special. Everybody else seemed to be "happy" with what they got. All in all it was a very confusing situation, food was average and overpriced, and 2hours and 179$ later we were on our way back to the beach house. Maybe we just hit an off day in early March, but nobody was impressed. Overpriced and disappointing. That's what comes to mind when I think of this place. read more

The quality of this food has nothing to do with COVID. The New York strip was basically fat and 50% was inedible. The lobster in my $30 Lobster Mac & Cheese was absent. Sadly, the highlight was the garnish/salad to our crab cakes. Do yourself a favor and opt for Duckie's, Sea Shanty or Ocean Front Pizza. Will not be dining here again. read more

First time in Cayucos and one of the things I would normally do when visiting a new town: Where do I eat? There were a few places that had good reviewa but my gut told me to go to Schooners. I ordered the calamari and shrimp and chips and an IPA to wash it down and it did not disappoint. Shrimp and chips (fries) was good but the calamari was one of the best food dishes I have ever tasted, not to mention the portions were very generous. Would have probably enjoyed the dine experience had it not been for COVID, but when things go back to normal and when in the area, I will definitely come back. read more

Our third visit to Shooners was nothing less than an absolute delight. This visit to Cayucos we went to dinner one night and the next we stopped by late afternoon for apps and drinks. Both instances we were helped by the same hostess-who by the way, is such a hard worker, really hustles to get guests seated, and is such a sweetheart. Our waiter Kevin was super polite, helpful, and patient with us. A curly blonde haired buss boy was also so friendly to us. Those three were everything and more of what you expect from wait staff. They made both of our evenings fun and relaxing. Thank you! We will see you soon! read more

Schooners - Kevin, hostess, and curly blonde buss boy were SO NICE, HELPFUL, AND COURTEOUS! - Seafood Near Me - Cayucos, California

To be fair, they had their chance. I addressed it the moment I found out and was given their word that they will immediately deal with it. I gave them enough time to deal with it and nothing happened. I even mentioned that I chose to talk to them first so that they could properly resolve it instead of jumping straight to the review. Well, nothing happened...so here's the review: It is *only* $3 so I didn't even bother disputing it on my credit card. But for all of you who have accounting/business backgrounds know that the famous unaccounted two cents throws everything into a mess with someone somewhere having to spend (often) an eternity going through all the numbers until they find what caused it. Well, it took me nearly 30 minutes to figure out where it was since it had been a business traveling week and I had quite the number of receipts to go through. $3 was added to my total bill. I have neat handwriting - everyone comments on that. I practice good accounting (not due to the MBA but out of personal preference). So where did it go wrong? Human error. Definitely not mine. When a customer calls you to handle it (and says it's not about the money but the principle), you better deal with it. Because if you don't, it is the same as "stealing" in this case. And once again, when the matter isn't the money but the principle, you know this review is eventually coming and probably going to be take away more than your initial $3 gain. Why? Besides the mistake...I'm actually going to point out that your food was a total shame. It wasn't just like someone in your kitchen had a *bad* day - a really bad one. It was more like someone in your kitchen didn't give a flying *$&%^* anymore. Think about it...anything that comes out of the fryer should be in the very least crispy - not soggy, not SOGGY...not OILY SOGGY like a piece of meat that didn't deserve its martyrdom. Small town, limited amount of places to choose from; but seriously, just steer clear of this particular spot. It is *not* worth the effort at all. I should be giving a single star or less if that was possible - but just because I've always been fair in my reviews, I'll just say: "I absolutely experienced *way* better." read more

TOURISTA ALERT! AVOID, especially for the view upstairs & outside at BREAKFAST time! OVER-PRICED, OVER-RATED, OVER-IT! RAN OUT OF COFFEE!!???!!???? WTH????? PURE CHAOS AT WEEKEND BREAKFAST TIME! View: Not that great unless you happen to snag the 3 "best" tables. Since we had a back table, we had a GREAT VIEW OF PEOPLES HEADS. Ambiance: FREEZE YOU DUMB BUTT OFF... NO HEATING LAMPs... look at people's stupid NOISY JABBERING HEADS, & Deal with Friendly, but clueless dingbats. GREAT VIEW OF THE CROWD OF EARLY MORNING ALCOHOLICS IN THE BAR AREA. Nice example, for the children. Service: DINGBAT CITY. Very clueless, but pleasant, servers...who where so OBVIOUSLY UNSTAFFED & POORLY TRAINED, that you really wanted to WALK OUT! I really blame both the owner & myself for NOT leaving when it first became apparent that service was a HUGE problem. Later, I realized that we could of eaten in the DANK DARK DUNGEON-LIKE DOWNSTAIRS area....but why...we came for supposed glorious beach view... CAYUCOS is CRAPPY IMHO Food/ LACK OF DRINK: x) NO COFFEE 4 U NO COFFEE 4 U NO COFFEE 4 U NO COFFEE 4 U One of the MOST POPULAR BREAKFAST PLACES in the WAY OVERRATED CAYUCOS AREA Ran OUT of COFFEE... BUT...plenty of ICE WATER....HUH! y) EGG BENEDICT was passable, BUT COLD & BECAME COLDER by the second. STUPID ME WANTING a crappy view, put me & honey stupidly outside. IT WAS GLORIFIED BAR FOOD. z) NO HEATING LAMPS to keep us or the food warm. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I agree fully with Sasha G. review, which = UGH!!!!!!!! & so disagree with most of the others (like Teri...who overrates everything in reviews that really look like Ads for most places....they are so corny & sweet...I do wonder if she really believes what she writes, no offense to her...but almost all very positive reviews from anyone is a big red alert IMHO) Needless to say...AVOID & forget the damned view & ridiculously positive reviews & just go to the Coffee/ Breakfast place just down the block...it is cheaper & probably where the locals go. Cayucos is highly overrated, has very few places to eat & is not that pretty anyway. As a local, I favor Avila, Shell, or Morro Bay Beaches...where not only you can find some superior food for the area...you can find FAR BETTER SERVICE, FOOD, & WARMING LAMPS! read more
