I ordered take-out and it was ready like in 15 minutes, that was pretty quick. To pick up you had to go to the back so I drove and parked on the ocean front parking lot and I was right there, the sign shows pick up, problem is I got there and waited, you can see the cooks working and stood there about 5 minutes, they have a bell but I hated to be rude but had to ring it. The cooks saw me ringing it but ignored me. So after another 5 minutes I had to go to the entrance where people were waiting to be seated, again I didn't want to be rude so I waited till everyone was attended another 5 minutes, then the hostess told me to wait, again I waited patiently till she came back and I told her I ordered for pickup and before I can explain any more she interrupted and said go to the back. I explained what I did and she stopped another associate and asked him to take over. That associate was nice, he went to the back and asked my name and wow, there it was on the rack waiting for me, makes me think when I first got there I could of just leaned over and snagged it. I was happy the food was still hot, the lobster Mac n cheese didn't look all that exciting but don't let appearance fool you, this was the best Mac n cheese ever! I'm not a Mac n cheese fan but I will definitely order this when I come back through Cayucos. The fish and chips were OK, nothing to brag about, just happy it wasn't cold and oily. Schooners is a a 'Cayucos cultural' event. Many go there to appreciate the local color and its also one of only two establishments in Cayucos with a full liquor license in Cayucos. Owner Brendan's vast improvements to this restaurant cannot be appreciated without having seen this establishment in the now decade or so past. In terms of the veritable structure itself and the ambience, its night-and-day. I do miss the pot-bellied wood stove that once adorned the middle of the downstairs area but I guess it took too much space. Part of this 'Cayucos culture' scene is outdoor live music at Schooners every Sunday and some holidays. The bar scene is still where its at but it still has that same form factor that some might find too small especially when the weather is inclement. Perhaps it will grow someday since Schooner's now owns the two side-by-side properties. There are bar stools with brass plates of favored patrons on the rear, and a bucket list on the wall. Schooner's is not a fine dining scene but burgers are great as are the ahi egg rolls , ahi sashimi, the ahi entree and the ahi salad. The wine selection is improved but not close to what you find at Cafe della Via, however, distilled liquors of every variety are available for consumption. read more

Here's what to expect: good seafood, great local vibe, nice staff, good ambiance w the ocean waves crashing in the background. The food was great, the service was slow but hey, they were busy all we know restaurants are a bit understaffed right now. Seems to be what a lot of people are complaining about... if you're in a rush, this may not be your place. But if you're looking for a good, relaxed meal w some local flavor, this is a must-stop in Cayucos. We had the crab cakes for appetizer and the seafood pasta and the Cioppino which were both stuffed with seafood, flavorful, and delicious! We enjoyed some wine and cocktails as well. It was a beautiful day for a drive, so we ended up in Cayucous. We stopped by Schooners for a drink. After perusing the menu, we decided to have lunch. We ordered the halibut n chips and halibut n coleslaw. The fried halibut was lightly battered and very tasty. The fries were crispy and delicious. The grilled halibut was awesome, tender, and succulent. The bed of Asian slaw that it rested on was delicious! Kudos to the kitchen staff. A great place to watch the sunset! We were in this little town (Cayucos) to snag some Brown Butter Cookies (If you don't know what i'm talking about, Yelp them, and RUN!). And my husband and I wanted to catch a beach sunset since it would be coming any minute. We asked the team at BBC where we could get a cocktail + watch it within walking distance and they recommended Schooners. It is definitely a fun, local spot at Happy Hour! Everyone seemed to know each other which was pretty fun. We sat on their outside deck and had a great view of happy hour! We ordered a drink and nachos. The nachos didn't knock our socks off but definitely took the hunger edge off! Their happy hour is inside their upstairs bar only and was a great deal so i'd highly suggest that! My coho salmon had partially cooked grainy rice. My husband asked for mayonnaise for his burger, but he did not get it until I was half done with my food. The ceviche lacked salt or acid and did not have much fish. I would skip this starter if I were you. I ordered the Cayucos Salad with grilled Salmon and was very disappointed. Good place to eat although we weren't able to get a table with an ocean view due to a 30 minute wait, which isn't too bad, but we couldn't wait to eat. They didn't have anyone staffing the host desk so if you're waiting there for several minutes and haven't been helped, don't hesitate to step inside so that they can see you're waiting to be seated. Once seated inside, we were waited on immediately. We ordered the calamari stripes, shrimp and fries, and the tuna melt and fries. The calamari stripes were okay and they provide a heaping portion of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce on the side, so if you don't like cocktail or tarter sauce, ask for it on the side or you'll have a handful of stripes covered in sauce. For the shrimp and chips, it was five large shrimp and fries, so if you have an appetite, this isn't the dish for you. The tuna melt and fries were my favorite, the just right toasting on the bread and great flavor. We didn't wait to long for our food and the staff were super busy running food and drinks constantly up and down the staircase inside the restaurant. I took my family to Cayucos for 4 days for my moms 65th birthday, and she wanted to try this place out. First off, where the hell do you find a person to seat you? Very very confusing entry to this place. And it wasn't just us, over the 2hrs we were there we saw numerous people walk in, be confused, look around and then walk out. There was no clear hostess anywhere to be found. Very odd. Finally my wife found a nice lady that told us to "sit wherever". So we are seated, talking and waiting to get menus.... and finally we get some waters. Then the waiters disappeared again. No menus, no silverware, and at this point we are thinking we made a mistake coming here. So we send one of the kids over to snag a menu for my mom to look at, because she is all excited for her birthday dinner. She looks on it, finds something she likes, only to be told when a waitress finally appears that it is the "lunch" menu. She proceeds to hand us menus that are exactly the same, but twice as expensive for the "dinner" menu. Later on, a nice man shows up and tells us HE will be our server for the evening! Nice, only been here 30 minutes Before we saw him.....and this place is not crowded at all, so........ So long story short, I ended up getting a New York strip for 29$ and it was just ok. Nothing special. Everybody else seemed to be "happy" with what they got. All in all it was a very confusing situation, food was average and overpriced, and 2hours and 179$ later we were on our way back to the beach house. First time in Cayucos and one of the things I would normally do when visiting a new town: Where do I eat? There were a few places that had good reviewa but my gut told me to go to Schooners. I ordered the calamari and shrimp and chips and an IPA to wash it down and it did not disappoint. Shrimp and chips (fries) was good but the calamari was one of the best food dishes I have ever tasted, not to mention the portions were very generous. Our third visit to Shooners was nothing less than an absolute delight. This visit to Cayucos we went to dinner one night and the next we stopped by late afternoon for apps and drinks. Both instances we were helped by the same hostess-who by the way, is such a hard worker, really hustles to get guests seated, and is such a sweetheart. Our waiter Kevin was super polite, helpful, and patient with us. A curly blonde haired buss boy was also so friendly to us. Those three were everything and more of what you expect from wait staff. Staying at a nearby VRBO we walked to dinner and enjoyed sitting outside protected from wind and warmed with heaters and watched the end of the sunset sky. Since it's crab season we had to try the crab cakes which were some of the best we'd had - ever. We both had the crusted horseradish ahi on wasabi mashed potatoes which was delicious perfection. DO NOT BELIEVE THE 3.5 star rating!!! My fiancé and I were staying in Cayucos this weekend and couldn't decide on a chowder spot from the small selection between Cayucos and Morro Bay. What sold us is Patrick F.'s Yelp responses so brutally honest and you could tell he really wants to provide the best service possible and still put his employees first. So we went and were not disappointed!! We were seated immediately downstairs with our own fire pit, our server "Elvis" was right there to help us. And the food!! The Legendary calamari lived up to its name: thick cut slice of FRESH squid steak. Don't come here without trying it! The chowder was top-notch and the Alaskan cod and chips was perfect the absolute freshness of all the food was matched by the excellent service and atmosphere. We'll be back read more

I've been coming here for 20 years candy the last visit was very disappointing. We sat inside, the table didn't have any napkins, silt and pepper , sugar, or utensils. I had toto ask for those items twice. My wife ordered a salmon salad. The salmon was very overcooked, and the dressing was tasteless. I got clams, fish and chips and a a cup of clam chowder. The side of clams was fair but some of the clams were cold. The soup was good. The fish and chips was okay. My pup was with me, so sat outside, but since my last visit, some lovely tables with fire pits and comfy seats have been added, making for a great outdoor dining experience on a cool winter night. Perfect temperature, great ambience. The seared halibut with lemon and capers, served over mashed potatoes with perfectly prepared fresh vegetables, was excellent, with a nice local Pinot Noir to round out the meal.
