We love coming here for breakfast. The service has always been great, the food is good, and the view of the marina is a plus!
I have been here several times in the past and remember not really caring for this place. They have one item that is good on their breakfast menu, however it was my husband's first time and our anniversary. My husband order lox and bagel and a pancake. Unfortunately the lox and bagel upset his stomach and his pancake had a hair in it. The syrup was very stringy so he didn't enjoy his meal. I ordered a greek chicken salad and the chicken did not taste fresh at all and had a weird flavor that you know it is bought from somewhere. I was also disappointed as whi does greek salad with iceberg lettuce and very tiny amounts of tomato and cucumbers as well as the Feta cheese. We were both very disappointed! Service was not the most friendliest either. The outside ambiance is very nice as you are overlooking Long Beach Marina. Unfortunately we will never be back here.
Would of had a higher rating but why is everyone in a rush! It's a beautiful day! I even said I wanted to sit and enjoy! I get it if busy and want to flip a table. But we were enjoying and appetizer and food. We were on our second beer, not finished and the lady came over started to clear our table and asked if we wanted a box? She brought a box and closed our tab. I told my husband, sad, so we closed out and left went to a different place to enjoy! We're not in a rush at all! I wanted to order a different appetizer and more drinks. I told our waitress next time please don't close out a table unless you know they are done or ask for check. Yes, I'll try again, maybe a bad day.
This is another fantastic SoCal location...right in the beautiful LB Marina. We brought an out-of-state visitor here for breakfast. It wasn't too busy today, so service was pretty good ( a few small issues) The food is consistently good here. Servings are generous. I must say, however, that the Eggs Benedict are somewhat uninspiring I probably won't order those again. Overall, it was a lovely morning dockside!
It's summer, so one of my favorite things to do is eat outside at a good restaurant with good food and a great view! All three pertain here. Sit on the patio. The view is amazing and it's very comfortable with the umbrellas to provide shade & sun. Since I love CFS for breakfast and only order it when I go out, it's a sure treat especially when it's cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the fish & chips which were plentiful!! They were a little too battered for my taste, but the fish was amazing. The most beautiful square "biscuit" came with my order which was also delicious and complimented the gravy and CFS well. We came here around noon and they kept the guests seated, well fed and our server was exceptionally pleasant. Didn't keep the receipt for her name, but we were here on Monday, 6-22-26 at noon and sat on the corner table by the serving station.
The only thing knocking a star is the wait. Theres always a significant wait on the weekends (an hour) But the servers are great, the food is solid and the prices are great

July 4th breakfast on the patio. Had the eggs Benedict with berries on the side and a mimosa. Perfect weather , the eggs were cooked as I requested. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. A true kick back , breakfast spot that feeds your body, and alows the. Location to decompress your mind.
I was honestly curious -- if this place is so good, why is it sitting at 3.5 stars on Yelp? After experiencing it for ourselves and reading through the reviews, I completely understand. The common complaint? Service. And unfortunately, we agree. From the moment we sat down, it was a waiting game. We waited quite a while before anyone came over just to take our drink order. After that, it was another 30 minutes before our waitress returned to take our food order. What made it more frustrating was seeing multiple servers standing around or walking past us without acknowledging that we were still holding menus and hadn't ordered yet. A simple check-in would've gone a long way. It was a beautiful day, and we opted for patio seating, which had a great vibe -- but the sun was beating down on us and the long wait made it less enjoyable. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. I ordered The Mess with a side of avocado. I actually enjoyed it -- chopped ham, crispy bacon, hash browns, and onions all came together nicely. My husband ordered the country chicken fried steak with extra gravy. Unfortunately, the gravy was overly salty with a strong rosemary aftertaste that overpowered the dish. Drinks were solid. The schooner of beer hit the spot, and the Bloody Mary was actually pretty good. Overall, the service really set the tone for us. Sadly, this will be our first and last time here for brunch.
Schooner or Later is a waterfront breakfast and lunch joint in Long Beach. It was an overcast afternoon, but the sun kept popping through so we decided to sit out on the patio. The view and fresh air were great. The patio is a good size and there are probably a dozen or so tables. There are only a few tables that are permanently covered and in the shade. They do have umbrellas for the tables, but they were not out when we visited. They also have heat lamps for when it is cold outside. There is plenty of parking only a few steps away from front of the restaurant. I decided to go outside of the box and ordered "The Mess". This is a blend of chopped ham, bell peppers, onion, hash browns, eggs, and cheddar cheese. It is $18.95 for a half size portion, and only $21.70 for the full size portion, so it's silly to not pay a few extra dollars and take any leftovers home. I ate about half of it, and it was pretty good as-is, but it was missing a little something. I had the rest at home and added sour cream which made it way better. I would definitely recommend adding sour cream, avocado, or chili which are optional add-ons at the restaurant. It also comes with two slices of sourdough toast, and there are several flavors of packaged jelly on the table. She had the Cinnamon Roll French Toast ($16.75), and added a side of scrambled eggs and sausage ($8.95). She said it was good, and the portion size is pretty generous. Service was prompt and friendly.
The crab Benedict at Schooner Later in Long Beach absolutely blew me away. For my first visit, I wasn't expecting such a mountain of crab -- but there was no shortage at all. Every bite was meaty, rich, and incredibly satisfying, and for $25, it felt like a total steal. The avocado was fresh, the flavors were balanced, and pairing it with fresh fruit made the whole plate feel even brighter. The staff was friendly and upbeat, and our waitress stayed attentive even though the place was super busy. We even got to meet the owner, who was just as warm and excited as we were to be there. For a first-time visit, it felt genuinely welcoming. I'll definitely be back.
It's been a good while since I've dined @ Schooner or Later, but I was dropping one kid off at Sea Base and promised my other breakfast, and you can't beat the view here. :) Food: Americana favorites, breakfast and lunch - from burritos to beefeaters. Service: Quick and friendly, there's always a crowd so they're handling business. Ambiance: This is what you're here for, a sunny day on the docks cannot be beat! Pair it with a cold adult beverage and life is good. :)
Such a wonderful restaurant to dine at for brunch. My friend and I visited on a Thursday morning with no long wait time. We waited about 15 minutes for a table facing the marina. Started off with some delicious Bloody Mary's. One of the best in town. I ordered their Classic Benedict with a side of cottage cheese and my friend had the crab Benedict with sweet potatoes fries. My friend mentioned the sweet potatoes fries were delicious. I had no complaints with my breakfast. Everything hit the spot! Server did mistake hash browns for cottage cheese, but she was nice enough to bring it on the side. Service was good and quick especially when it got super busy. Really enjoyed my time having breakfast outside by the water. Great start to begin my day!

From checking in to service every staff member I came across were friendly and polite. We came on a holiday and it was fairly busy. We waited about 40mins for our table. The wait time wasn't bad because they allow you to order drinks while you wait in their outside waiting area. The restaurant itself is almost entirely outdoors and has a harbor view. I ordered 2 menu items. The homemade gravy and biscuits & the mess-arito. Biscuits and gravy 9/10. Gravy was delicious. I added salt and pepper which enhanced the flavor of the gravy. Personal preference. My only complaint would be the biscuits themselves. I felt they were too dense and not fluffy enough for my liking. The mess-arito 10/10 was perfect. Everything you'd want in a breakfast burrito plus their green salsa is amazing. I love salsa and their salsa is top notch. Highly recommend. read more

I just love this spot! I always wait ti have an outdoor table, because who doesn't love California beautiful weather 95% of the time!! While you wait there is a walk-up bar to get a drink to start your visit off and time there off! The food is great several breakfast and lunch options. Portion sizes are large. Servers have always been kind, helpful and quick! There's plenty of parking on both sides of the restaurant! Best advice is just enjoy all your time there between the weight your actual meal and take a moment to walk along the harbor! read more

Schooner or Later is the spot my nephew wanted to try for his birthday. He is a fan of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives so he is always on the lookout for places Guy Fieri has gone to. I'm not sure if they made reservations, but we had a long 60 minutes wait before being seated at one of their outdoor tables. They were very very very busy that Sunday morning, and we were a large party of 12. Was Schooner or Later worth the wait? To the most important person (birthday celebrant) that day, it was well worth the wait. Personally, I thought that Schooner or Later was A-Okay. I ordered the "Mess". I had high hopes for this entree because it was featured on DDD. It is a blend of chopped ham, onion & bell pepper grilled w/ hash browns & eggs and topped with melted Cheddar cheese plus it is served with sourdough toast. It tasted average to me. No "Wow" factor. It seemed to lack something. Seems strange to say that especially since it already had so many ingredients inside this concoction. Maybe it could have used more seasoning to liven it up a bit. It was nice to visit here once. Maybe I'll be back for a return visit someday. The restaurant is located in a beautiful area. read more

Brunch is where is at, ordered the huevos rancheros, which come on top of a tostada, great tasting except the salsa should be running more, it felt too thick, I even had to move some out of the way, otherwise this dish was good. The wait was about 45 min, since we came at prime time, which was not bad, cause they have a corral area, for you to sit in the shade, and the bar is near by, to sip while you wait. The main reason I chose this place was the view while you're eating outside, so nice. Overall great place to have brunch. read more
I've been here a handful of times over the years. There is usually a loooong wait. It's a big reason why I don't go very often. I went this past Monday around 9:45am and that was perfect. Sat right down. Shortly after though, it really started filling up. One of my favorite things is "dining with a view". You certainly get that here! I had a schooner of beer, which was icy cold! *yum* I ordered Huevos Rancheros for my meal. It was good. Not amazing but not terrible. I'll be back. Custom breakfast sandwich with croissant, ham, cheddar, tomato, mayo, and over medium egg. Delicious! Next time I might ask for the thick cut ham steak in it instead of the ham deli meat, but it was still great nonetheless. read more

My friend recommended we eat at this location for breakfast. It was right on the water! However, it was 930 on Sunday, and it was fairly crowded. We waited 30 minutes for a table, so come with time to spare! I ordered the Mexican omelette, it was delicious! I'm on a health kick so got it without sour cream or cheese and it was still packed with flavor. I will definitely be back to try their other options. read more

This was my second time eating here. The service is always good, people are very nice. Place is clean including the bathrooms. The food was just average. The hubby had a Bloody Mary and said it was the worse he's ever had. He said the Bloody Mary mix from Costco had more flavor. So if you are a blood Mary snob don't order it. We love this cute little diner on the marina! Great service, delicious food and great ambiance. We prefer to sit out on the patio overlooking the water, weather permitting of course. My husband chose the chicken fried steak country breakfast with biscuits and gravy and he was raving about the white sausage gravy which is the best I've had in a while. I had the border breakfast burrito which was packed full of delicious ingredients. The burrito was just the right size and I chose to have cheese melted on the top which was a nice touch. We will absolutely be back the next time we are in town. Just try to go on a weekday morning or later in the day on the weekends because this place fills up quickly. read more
Great food, sitting outside, enjoying the scenery with the sailboats, etc., is very comforting. Our omelettes were cooked to perfection, the daily selection of muffins were very fresh and tasty! Waiters and food runners are so incompetent it's disgusting. These people don't want to be here. Waited 15 min. to get acknowledged. Server comes to the table with an attitude. The food comes out fast but cold. Huevos rancheros have no taste. The mimosas are flat. Food quality is mediocre to say the least and it's expensive. I guess it's the location. Thank you !!! For making my day so happy... wow!!! The celebration continues!! 40 yrs Anniversary to this gem restaurant and the food was lovely. I order the spinach and mushroom omelette with hash browns and a blueberry muffin... yes!!! Everything was Amazing!!! And I had a cup of coffee and an adult OJ beverage ( Mimosa) !!!! Excellent food, service and nothing beats the views! We have been coming here for many years and other than expanded seating and menu, nothing has changed. I noticed some Yelpers complaining about the wait. If you come on the weekends, expect a wait. Lots of large parties, family and friends meeting up. Once you're seated, people tend to sit for a while enjoying the views and company. There's a large waiting area with a full bar! Tips for the wait - weekdays usually no wait (except Summer months); weekends have part of your party get there early and put in your name then grab drinks. Other tip is to sit inside at the breakfast bar (usually just for 1-2). Amazing views of the food being prepared. Very efficient system! Now for the food. Portions are large. Most of the breakfast dishes come with toast or muffins. Muffins are amazing. Tip - consider taking the muffin to go. If you eat it, be prepared to take part of your breakfast to go. Omelets are excellent. The Mess is very good. The biscuits and gravy is a great choice and comes with several meals (Captain's and Captain's Benedict). Today we had the ABC Omelet and Cinnamon Roll French Toast. Both were very yummy. Their Cinnamon Rolls are great but suggest taking to go for a future treat. Service is excellent. Very busy place but always attentive. They work well as a team getting your food and keeping your drinks topped off. Highly recommend the Mimosas and Bloody Marys! Note - both Triple D and Huell Howser did shows on Schooner and Later. This is how we first discovered this restaurant years before we moved to Long Beach. Haven't been here in a awhile ... This past Sunday afternoon we celebrated a birthday, wish it would have been a bit sunnier cause it was chilly sitting on the patio. For some reason or another, they couldn't move the rollaway heater lamp close to us soooo we asked to move. Other than that, service was great. My food order was taking longer than others and one of the young ladies was kind enough and asked if I wanted some soup while my food came out and their Tortilla soup is bomb! I had their tuna sandwich which was pretty good, I love all the good stuff they add to it, a must try. And fries were ok. I will certainly be back for that tortilla soup! read more

Been coming here for at least 20+ years. The quality has remained but the price is very expensive now. I understand inflation but as a consumer $20 for a sandwich is crazy. I love this place but they have had to severely raise the price and I know in addition to that the meat portion is less In sandwich's as well. Food is still great and I will come back but the price point is a tough pill to swallow. read more

Beautiful view, good food, and great drinks. Enjoyed a Sunday morning but be prepared to wait. Fortunately, outside bar is available and enjoyed a Bloody Mary while waiting for a patio table. I enjoyed crab avocado with poached eggs on sourdough and our waitress was great. Would definitely be back! read more

I highly recommend you phone them. I'm sure they'll be able to accommodate you since they have a vast spacious outdoor dining area. Be sure to specify if you need a shaded area.

Approved service dogs are always welcome. People who bring their pets usually sit at a table on the perimeter of the patio and their dog sits on the outside next to their table.
