I've been here for brunch 3 times now, each time as delicious as the first. REALLY IMPORTANT! They open at 10am for brunch on weekends. We almost got scared away by the sign in the door that says they open at 11. Don't be fooled! In the past I've tried the eggy toasty and my husband got the eggs Benedict. Both were top notch. Today we tried something completely different and got the omelette and French toast. I can't even say what the best part was! The French toast was simply incredible. The potatoes that come with the omelette are phenomenal. But the 3 strips of bacon might have beaten everything! As usual, great service and all around great time. Came here for the first time as part of a work meeting. Probably wouldn't have otherwise, as it's nowhere near where I live and we never come to this side of town to hang out! I very briefly entered the bar, which seemed pretty standard as far as restaurant bars goes. The tables were decorated with sections of the periodic table, which I thought was ok, if not a little gimmicky. The upper room is nice for meetings -- spacious, while still being secluded enough for some privacy. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The menus were designed in PeeChee folders, which was cute. Upstairs had a bookshelf and a door near the bar said "Principal's Office". Much better theming without the gimmicks upstairs, I thought. One in our party got the poutine, which I thought needed some help compared to other places in town. The brussel sprouts were good -- I'd recommend them. The American Grill Salad was good. Note: you can get a half or a full. The half is pictured and is a decent portion, especially if you were to add a protein. Good service and love the idea and decor of the "schoolhouse" however I have yet to have a good meal there. I went for the French onion soup, It had to be the worst I have ever had. Broth was just okay but then they threw in a piece of un-toasted bread and where the heck was the cheese? TERRIBLE! Then I ordered wings to go. Ugh...I looked at them before I left and they were white. So I bit into one to make sure they were even cooked. They were cooked but they were not crispy wings, kind of gross. This place is so cute! I love the school theme, super creative. We came here for brunch. I recommend getting the Bloody Mary! I got the lunch lady sloppy Joe, which was super filling. I normally don't like blue cheese crumbles but they made it a little sweet and smokey somehow, which I liked! It was super filling. I got it with a side of cheesy grits, which were pretty dry and underwhelming :( The salad with smoked romaine was surprisingly really good and big. Let me start by saying that I've been coming here pretty much since this place opened. I actually think they've been doing a good job of staying open through the pandemic. I love the school bus idea, and was excited that I got to sit in it the first time I went here during the pandemic. It stayed pretty warm with the personal heaters with each table. The reason I took off two stars was because of my visit here this last Saturday. There's no real direction when you walk up to the restaurant. There's plenty of signage indicating the need for masks and distancing, but it doesn't say what you should do if you have a reservation, or if you don't. My boyfriend and I stood in line, and since we were early, and it was fairly nice outside, that wasn't a problem. The issue was that after we had been waiting for almost 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, there was a group of people who pushed us out of the way to walk into the restaurant, like we weren't even standing there. When we forced them to see that they were being rude, they told us they had a reservation and had been waiting 45 minutes to get in, and that they had been texted that their table was ready. I tried to let them know that I also had a reservation, one that I had made days in advance. The hostesses weren't paying attention to this situation, nor did they seem to care that patrons were getting pushy. This should not have happened at all. An employee should be paying attention to the patrons in line. With many people in want of a job, they should have enough employees to take these types of situations in hand. At least the manager apologized and took control, signaling someone to seat us, but it was a quick, "sorry about that". There was no real indication that he was going to fix the issue that seemed ongoing, as there were many more people in line after us. The food has been a little hit and miss. The Nutty Goat Dip, substituted with pesto instead of marinara was delicious, but heavy, so you probably won't need much other food if your party is small. The queso was barely warm, and kind of tasted like it had sat most of the day. BTW, restaurants need to do away with the multi-colored tortilla chips, unless you're actually going to use blue corn anyway. The blue dye is NOT good for digestion. Just saying. The hot drinks have been a life saver when you have to dine outside in the winter. Their Irish Coffee is very good, but make sure you get the extra alcoholic cream shot if you want any sweet to it, since the whipped cream doesn't quite do the job. The Hot Toddy was the better choice for a hot drink though, IMO. I've never had a problem with any of the servers here. All of them have been more than hospitable and on the ball with service. I will definitely be back, but I really hope they get the host/hostess situation worked out before I do. Making people (especially one's who have a reservation) wait out in the cold is not a good time. read more

I've been to the School House several times, and wholeheartedly echo what many others have already said here: it's more about the ambiance than the food. Points for a clever concept. But the food... And when combined with the highish prices, I've been consistently underwhelmed. I took my 11-year old daughter for brunch today because I hadn't been for a couple of years, knew she'd like the school house theme, and wondered if they had maybe upped their food game. Alas, it was the same. For $13.75 I got a small, uninspired Denver omelet (my thanks to the very friendly waitress who suggested I order a side of green chile - otherwise it would have been bland as bland could be!) and a pile of uninteresting country potatoes. Not bad tasting food, just slightly less gourmet than Denny's. And for that price at Denny's you'd also get bacon, toast and maybe some pancakes. To tell the truth, I'm kind of confused. So much potential! Not sure why they haven't stepped it up. read more

With a sadden heart, I'm left with no option for this review. It was a cloudy late July, and with an empty stomach, and a craving for a good beer; we set off for what we thought was going to be a great experience. However, that's where our anticipation for a great time ended. We were met by two ladies at the front desk, that we eager to seat us. With a quick dash to the table we were tusked and thrown down to the back corner. With no communication, whatsoever, she dropped our menus off and left.... "okay, what a weird spot" my girl friend said under her breath. I was quickly annoyed, but figured it was worth the dark and dreary corner for a nice cold beer. However, we figured we would ask to see if we could get another seat, either outside or near the bar. We talked with the ladies, and with complete disgust they rolled their eyes, and said "ugh.. no, we'll have to clean the table again, don't you know it's covid!?" I simply replied with "You're right, no worries" we sadly walked with our tails between our legs back to our dreaded table. After a brief discussion with my GF, we decided that this was not the place for us. Treating us like an inconvenience, was no way to treat customers. We didn't eat so nothing about food except, locals who are friends say food and service can be of unpredictable quality. Others say it's awesome. But we loved the bar. Like the schoolhouse microbrewery in Colorado Springs (a must do destination) the atmosphere is killer fun. Big high ceiling bar that has a lot of too cool for school memorabilia, makes it a real visual treat. Amazing liquors (3 flavors of Pappy for example) and a wide array of beers on tap and bottled. The drinks menu is a book. Bored with your date? Its got history and info to entertain you through your misery for hours. Our bartender was a great young guy, very engaging, but another took himself waaay too seriously. You serve drinks dude, it ain't brain surgery. More steroids. It's a must do if you're in Arvada. Then head over to Klines and kick back with the friendliest bartenders anywhere. read more

The sloppy Joe was flavorless, barely any blue cheese crumbles and desperately in need of salt. The soup was flavorless, one piece of bread in the middle with a little cheese but certainly the worst French onion soup I've ever had. I added salt which helped but it tasted like canned soup. I can't believe this place doesn't have closer to five stars! I came here last week with two best buds. First time eating AT a restaurant in months and months! It was so nice to sit on their deck with the misters. The interior of this place is seriuosly so cool! It's like an old-timey school house. Felt like a little chiquita in colonial america. Portraits of presidents with a fact about what alcohol they liked or a story about their drinking habits. "George W Bush 'retired' from drinking once elected president" oh sure Dubya. The main hall has a wall that goes from the top to bottom of different spirits. Everywhere you look, there was a cool decoration. They even had the chairs everyone had in elementary schools! The ones made of plastic with metal legs. So cool! Food was fantastic! My salad was gigantic and filling. Queso was creamy with a kick. I wasn't a fan of the chips they use but that is my sole complaint. Our waitress was an angel and so nice, helpful, and quick! Soup was average and warm. Not hot enough to melt the cheese thoroughly. Presentation was fun. The service was excellent. Drink selection was vast. We sat in the bar area. Went here for brunch with family and friends, and the prevailing theme was blandness. I tried three of the dishes we ordered and all were lacking salt and flavor. It wasn't gross, it just wasn't flavorful. Service was mediocre too--brought my wife a flat soda and when told, they brought another flat soda. We wanted to tell them their CO2 must be out, but they literally never came back. No water refills, nothing. Not going back unless it's for a whiskey. With this place being the old school house of arvada, I love that they kept the theme of the restuarant in tie with the history of the building. The old library now sits as the bar, with an extended whiskey selection. Bus seats and school chairs are used for seating, and gym floors make up the tables. It's a really fun concept! Despite the theme, the food was medicore. For apps, we ordered parmesan cheese brussel sprouts, which really just had parmasan crisps sprinkled on the top. We also tried the bacon wrapped dates, this was seriously the best part of the meal. They were delicious! For entrees, my husband and I split the blackended salmon and avacado sandwhich. The salmon was cooked well, and the hoagie bread was spread with avacado. It was basically eating avacado toast with salmon locks, as we had to eat the sandwhich open face. Our friend tried the portabella parmesan, and said it tasted fine, but that the sauce lacked any real flavor. Our waitress was okay. She wasn't able to give us a seperate check from our friend at the table...odd. She refilled our waters a couple times which was nice, but just seemed standoffish and uninterested in being there. The drinks were the best part. The options were extensive. I decided to try one of their signature cocktails, Mathematics Manhatten and absolutely loved it. My friend opted for an Old Fashioned Field Day, while my hubs tried a Stout. Overall, I may come back here to grab drinks with a friend, but probably wouldn't order food again. read more

I ate at your establishment on December 7th and had a large grilled salad, it was so good 3 days prior I came back for another. As the server was bringing the tray to place in front of me, the side of dressing tipped with half of it pouring onto my lap. I went to the restroom with soda water and napkins to try and spot clean it, then brought it to the cleaners the next day without luck. I contacted the owner and explained what happened and how I'd like to be reimbursed for the ruined sweatshirt. He has drawn this out longer then needed and is refusing to compensate me for the sweater. read more

This is my go-to place to meet up with friends. The service has always been stellar and the atmosphere is so chill and relaxing in house or on their rooftop patio. The menu is hit or miss but the cocktails are top notch. One thing I sincerely wish is for the building to be warmer. This place is always freezing in the fall and winter so bring an extra sweater and keep your cute heels at home. Best menu options I think are the poutine, Monte Cristo and wings. read more

We didn't have reservations, but his attitude towards us was incredibly rude, and having come from a family members funeral I was surprised to be met with such an arrogant demeanor. I really like the concept. The bar area was very cool and sent me back in the day to elementary school. They have a great selection of whiskey. The menu has a good variety but the food and service fell flat. The poutine fries were fine but the sauce lacked flavor and was too gelatinous. The shrimp po boy was a big let down. The bread wasn't very fresh and had a couple shrimp at best. I don't think I've ever had a Po boy with less shrimp in my life. The salad with honey pepper dressing was fine but nothing to write home about. I'll be back im sure just because the bar area is so cool but won't expect much from the food or service. read more
