This was mu first time dining here. It was busy for mother's day. A friend had invited me to lunch so i was excited to give it a try. Today they had a buffet so we went for it. There was a small salad selection, mac and cheese, a variety of sausages and potato options. Everything tasted fine, I'm just not a huge fan of german food. Overall it was a nice dinning atmosphere. However for me, I'm not sure I'd be back. It is just not my vibe.

So while in town you have to eat right? Well I came in because I have read lots of good things about Schmidt's so I had to try. While sitting in the waiting area I spoke with several people that highly recommended the buffet. You must know I am not a buffet fan, but had I tried it. Very impressive and the food was very good. I will say if in the area again I may just try off the menu as I ate way too much food. Simeon my waiter was truly a rockstar. My cup never went empty and he made the meal better just by helping out. If you see him working I am sure he will impress you with his work ethic and friendly demeanor. I highly recommend stopping in for some food. Parking is limited so keep that in mind.

Really cannot be beat. Having been to Germany The food, staff, and atmosphere are really top Notch and charming. I loved the sausage sampler. The beer flight was really good and I loved sitting at the bar with the "wooden" beer fridge. Would definitely go back in an instant.

Having family members who have lived in Germany and are fluent in German, this was a spot we were pumped to try. We got quite a few dishes and over all everything was really good. The Weinershnitzel was a bit dry and chewy but everything else was really good. We were told to definitely try the cream puffs so of course we did, and the were yummy. Love the old school feel of the restaurant and the the staff is in the traditional German dresses. It's a fun place to stop. A nice selection of brews as well.

Bad service? You can do better.

Schmidt Food Truck, Tractor Supply, Pataskala Ohio Fast forward in time only to be disappointed by the experience. The portions were quite small. The food was served cold. Staff behavior: one had their feet on the counter while another had their hands in their pockets. Prices have increased. In conclusion: upon my arrival in Columbus, Ohio, I recall visiting , where the portions were generous and the restaurant staff worked diligently to serve the community. As for the prices, I can't recall them because they weren't a significant concern at the time. Unfortunately, this food truck tarnishes the reputation Schmidt,s. Is that the intention? I sincerely hope not. Improve the truck or remove it.

Great service and excellent food. I was in town from Alabama with 5 other guys orders spanning the menu and everyone was satisfied. My order was the Hunter Schnitzel and red cabbage along with German potato salad. A cold Warsteiner Dunkel to wash it down and German chocolate cake to top it off! Perfect meal and a great environment! I recommend!

I've been visiting Schmidt's while in town for business since 1996 and I can't believe that I haven't written a review yet. So here goes. I've done sausage plates, buffet nights and schnitzels, but my favorite plate is a perfectly tender sauerbraten with ginger snap sauce over spaetzle and red cabbage. And you can't go wrong with some potato pancakes on the side. There will be a wait for a table, but that's why there is a bar with German beers. Service is always awesome and the food is consistently on point. I'll be back next time I'm in town!

Stopped in after the Home & Garden Show for a late lunch. Seated immediately; dining area fairly busy and waiter quickly got us menus and water. Sandwiches big, hot and tasty with lots of meat. Pretzel bun fresh and soft. Beans cooked but not mushy; spaetzle firm but soft...both mild in flavor. Another great meal...took home a peanut butter cream puff...decadent! Long standing favorite restaurant in the village...food and service consistently great!

Had dinner here last week with my coworkers (a group of 4) and was quoted a 20-minute wait on a Wed evening, which was fine as we got to explore the other shops in the adorable German Village, unique gifts and chocolates galore. Our table was actually ready in less than 10 minutes, and we were given options of ordering off the menu or taking advantage of their buffet. We decided on dishes off the menu, my colleagues getting the chicken schnitzel (these were loaded with cheese), and for myself the hunter schnitzel with my choice of sides being german potato salad and green beans & spatzle (which had more green beans than spatzle in the mix). These dishes came with generous portions, the breaded pork loin particularly tasty and filling. I wasn't too big a fan of the tangy vinegary flavor in the potato salad, but I enjoyed my meal nonetheless. We couldn't leave without taking some dessert to go. I selected the peanut butter and fudge cream puff, a large pastry which just called to me from the display case in the front of the restaurant. It wasn't outstanding, but it was satisfying enough. My coworkers who got the plain cream puffs were a bit disappointed, so I'm glad I went with the chocolate covered pastry. There was also live music with a duo of musicians dressed in german attire playing the tuba and accordian inside the restaurant. This added a nice touch to the lively atmosphere. The place isn't perfect, but it had an inviting ambience, service was attentive and helpful, and the menu offered a nice variety of delicious german fare.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable experience--almost authentic, though the place attracts diners from around the world. There are no reservations accepted and the service was excellent. We started with soup, then had bratwurst and a four-sausage platter for our main courses. For dessert, we shared an apple strudel with ice cream. Everything was delicious and very satisfying. The total bill, including two beers and tip, came to $100. There was a buffet option available for $25, but we chose not to indulge to avoid overeating. Highly recommend visiting!

The Food the service the casual good vibes and the live German music keeps us coming back! They have a deli built right in with fresh sausages homemade to go with amazing pastries, German cake you name it! Never make the mistake of NOT taking a Buckeye Cream Puff home!! The pretzel nuggets are a must! Perfectly salted, baked fresh and then Flash Fried for the perfect crisp factor, but still soft inside . I suggest the Sausage Sampler Platter This German Gem was established in 1866 and is still always busy. Genießen!!!

This ended up being my boyfriend's favorite meal of our trip to Columbus, Ohio. Located in the charming German Village, Schmidt's Sausage Haus and Restaurant served up some seriously good, freshly made sausages. The currywurst was delicious and absolutely worth trying. We each ordered the sampler platter to taste a variety of sausages -- definitely the way to go. The braised cabbage, though, wasn't my favorite (a bit too mushy for me), but everything else made up for it. The fresh bread and flavorful sausages had me cleaning my plate... minus the cabbage . The homemade chunky applesauce was a standout -- not too sweet, with a fresh-from-the-orchard taste that I loved. By the end, I was so full I could barely move. My only regret? Not saving room for dessert. Their display was insane -- giant half-pound cream puffs and strudels that had me drooling just looking at them. If you're in Columbus, this spot is a must-try for comfort food lovers.

Ask the Community - Schmidt's Sausage Haus

What about the buffet?

We were there at the end of May and Schmidt's had just reinstated the buffet. Of course the price has gone up also.

What is the handicap parking situation at Schmidt's?

Parking is very limited but there are spots

Do you have the Schweinshaxe? I guess the English name is like pork shank? I didn't find it on the menu on their website

I don't think they do. I know Valter's does. It is about half a mile away on High, and is more authentic in general.

Do they take reservations?

I believe they are first come first serve. They are a pretty casual place.

Do they offer curbside pickup?

Last time I was there in June, people were going inside to pick up orders.

Is the buffet being offered again?

Is the buffet available?

No and no plans to bring it back as of May 2024

Is this location still open for dining? Do we need reservations? Are all the standard menu items available?

Also the normal lunch buffet is still closed but the hours are 11am to 10pm daily

How do i get a reservation here? ppl on phone wont let us get a reservation. says we need to do reservations through yelp. yelp doesnt let u schedule reservations?

Yelp has a feature that lets you put yourself on the wait list, it is not a reservation, but puts you inline.

Is the buffet offered during a certain time of day or all day?

The buffet is available all day

I've never been here. How much does the buffet cost per person?

$15.95 and well worth it. The buffet itself is not physically big, but it is the quality of the offerings that will keep you returning for another plate full! We went on a Friday night for the buffet and enjoyed live music from a very talented 2-man… Read more

Happy Hour specials: $4 Hefe Weizen(wheat beer), $5 Fries with Bier Gravy, Lager battered Chicken Tenders and Garlic pretzel bites. I'm in! Everything came out in reasonable time and I'm not going to describe every bite, but I was in heaven. The Bier gravy fries were special. Garlic Pretzel bites were crazy good. Chicken tenders were seasoned perfectly and the sauces (honey mustard and some sorta bourbon bbq) had me cross dippin and dunkin. I basically ordered dive bar food items, but it was the best I've had especially for $5 each. Washing it down with a wheat beer just kicked it over the fence. I even left room for dessert which I never do. Boston Cream Puff. OMG. The custard was lighter than most but I'm glad it was. It didn't last 2 minutes.
