Even when its cold outside you can still visit! On nice days they have a fire outside but otherwise they have a large tent which felt nice and warm. There are seasonal drinks and beers along with some snacks you can order. We tried the soft pretzel which was a nice size and came with beer cheese. This was SUCH a great surprise and really gives me throwbacks to the German beer gardens. If the weather is nice, HillGarten is entirely outdoors, made to handle big groups of people, and very German-slanted. It's a really cute place. PROS: -I, admittedly, don't really like being out in the sun. There are tons of shaded spots here, even under the full day's sunlight. -They have quite a few beer taps, and they're all numbered on the sign. This makes it a whole lot easier/faster to order the beer you want. They had some German imports too! -Very German menu. They have some neat American takes, but there were a lot of German throwbacks too (like Kasespatzel!). -Pretzel is gigantic (priced so, too, but it made a full dinner for two people without needing a snack later), and the beer cheese that goes with it is good. I'd definitely recommend the extra beer cheese they offer if you're someone who really likes to smother in cheese. -Indoor restrooms built into the kitchen/bar building. You're not in outhouses or barely-there outdoor restrooms. They feel like standard bathrooms. CONS: -Chairs are a little uncomfortable for sitting for long periods of time. I'm not sure if anyone has ever said metal chairs are super comfortable, though, but just something to keep in mind. They have picnic tables too. -Parking might require a bit of creativity. They have a few spots next to the building from the alleyway, but I mean "a few". Like 5. If anything is going on here, you'll need to find street parking. Nearby street parking is free for 2 hour spurts. -Hillgarten is, literally, next to one of the busiest Hilliard downtown roads in the area. Expect the buzzing of cars pretty constantly, but it turns into background noise unless one of those "everyone needs to hear my car!" people drives through. read more

The wife and I got the sausage charcuterie with house sausage. The jalapeno and regular bratwurst were delicious. Nice and spicy. Appreciated the fennel in the regular one. The plain is too plain for me. Casing on the bratwurst seemed appropriately snappy.  It is was served with two mustards and small pickles, a classic sour kraut with caraway seed. Which was delicate but very nice. There were also roasted onions and bell peppers.  There's a grassy area, being reseeded for spring, probs gonna be reopened soon. We saw a dog bowl so these folks are dog friendly.  The restrooms are around back.   A note: It might feel the pricey side but it makes sense. There's a lot of love put into the food. They're on Untappd so you can check drafts. Which are $6.50- $8, affordable. Definitely on par with draft prices around Columbus.  The käsespätzle is SO yummy. It's made to order with crispy onions, fresh onions and green onions. (Like a New American version of Käsespätzle). Definitely spiced well, compared to the other Käsespätzle at hofbrauhaus. It's SO much better here. Seriously, it's so good. I can't wait to make it back out to Hilliard. I'll keep an eye their socials and website for events. read more

It's cute, it's "unique," the food, drinks and service are FINE, but IMHO, it's a HUGE gimmick. At least during the colder months, it might be worth one visit to check out the "igloos" set up in the front, but the hassle of zipping yourself in and out of there, the either freezing or roasting temps (the igloos are heated) and the set up is not the most conducive to hanging out, eating and drinking with friends. The food (some, not all "German-style") the drinks (some VERY good cocktail choices) and the service are all very good. The tiny table in the center of the "igloo" might not have been the best for what my group of 5-6 people ordered. Our (giant!!) pretzels, hummus platter and other assorted apps barely fit on the table, but we made it work, mostly... Service was good, and our group seemed happy with the menu, venue, etc., but I'd only go back in warmer weather, as I didn't really like the winter tent/igloo setup.... Give it a try, YOU might enjoy it... I might see you back there in warmer weather!! read more

Such a nice charming neighborhood place. A family friendly casual Biergarten with a nice selection of beers on draft (about 20). A good variety of beer styles as well. They also have cocktails, wines & sodas. The food menu is mostly apps & handhelds but it's perfect for the venue. We had the pretzel & the sausage charcuterie. Both were awesome. The soft pretzel was warm & chewy. The beer cheese & mustard for dipping were great. The sausage board was amazing. The sausages were some of the best I've had. The kraut that comes with it was great as well. The staff is very nice. I can't wait to go back to try some of their sandwiches. read more

Wow. I kept driving past this place and finally stopped by to check it out. The customer service was superb. The gentleman working the bar asked us if we'd been here before and since we hadn't, he explained the menu and told us what was popular/his personal favorites. He was kind and patient with us as we decided on what to get. We got a few drinks and some food and sat by the fire place. The fire was nice since it was a chilly night. Although the chairs are made of medal, they have blankets available for the chairs! Even though it was 40° outside, it definitely did not feel like it. I was so warm and toasty. For food, we got the pretzel which was huge! The cheese dip was absolutely scrumptious. The Mac and cheese was also very tasty and had fried onion on it. If you're looking for a laid back outing, with amazing customer service, definitely check Hillgarten out! Totally recommend it. read more

Came here for the first time and I really enjoyed my experience! They have a great cocktail menu that's seasonal and lots of different brat options, including a vegan dog!! I ordered the spicy brat and my boyfriend ordered the dad frankenfurter. We also had a side of potato salad and two margaritas. I ordered the seasonal pineapple jalapeño marg and he had an original. They have done a lot to make the Hilliard Station area more appealing and this lively little biergarten is such a fun addition. Let me say first.....the staff here were the friendliest and most personable people I have encountered in any establishment serving food since pre-covid times. They restored my faith that great service is not completely gone. You order at the counter and they give you a buzzer to alert when your order is ready to be picked up. They also appeared to be running out some of the food to tables, so seemed to be kind of a mix. The food menu is short and German inspired. It is mostly brats and a few different appetizers. The giant bavarian pretzel seemed to be very popular. The warm potato salad was very tasty. The fall cocktail list had all kinds of things that sounded good. We wanted to try the butterscotch margarita (?!) but they were sold out. I should have taken a picture of the menu, because I cant remember the names of the drinks. They also have an extensive beer selection, of course, and several wine options. There is a large fire pit and some outdoor games. It is kid and dog friendly. Absolutely adorable little place that was a great addition to Old Hilliard. It's German inspired, hence the food and drink names. They also play some German music (although not all the time). The shining gem here is definitely the bretzel, which is huge (pictured below). I shared it with two other people, and it was so delicious, I still wanted more when it was done! We went through the cheese dip really fast though. Not sure if we could've gotten a refill on that, but that's on us for not asking! The service here is really great and friendly. They would come up to check in on us and then quickly bus our tables, so we weren't all cluttered. We spilled some salt on the table, and they kindly wiped it away for us. We saw an engagement party happening here, so it is clear this is a spot for all occasions. We were just here for a casual afternoon, and I'd definitely come back. I was excited about this concept and reallllllly wanted to love it.. however, I don't know if we'd be back. It's pretty over priced for what you get. We got two beers and the pretzel. The pretzel was pretty good and quite large. All of the seating is outside with one little building that you order at. If you come in the late afternoon, it's quite hot and there isn't a lot of shade whatsoever unless you snag one of the spots like we did. We left pretty unimpressed. Strange place. Claims to be German but aside from the bratwurst and the pretzel there's not much influence here. I mean, there's Italian sausage on the menu next to hummus and jalapeno-cheddar sausage? Hummus. At a GERMAN restaurant. No currywurst, no spätzle, not even a cream puff. The drink selection might be the worst offense of all, not a single German beer or wine to be had. How can this be? It feels like whoever put this place together has never been to a biergarten--putting tables on a lawn is not enough. Simply put, there is very little of Germany to enjoy at Hillgarten. A couple weeks ago I finally stopped by @hillgarten in Old Hilliard after driving by numerous times saying "we have to check that place out sometime". They have a mostly German inspired menu with shareables and handhelds but you know I absolutely had to have the enormous Brezel with Beer Cheese. You could tell it was handmade in the back as it was fresh, hot and very fluffy! The food, service and drinks are all very impressive coming from a place that is patio only. I will definitely be back just for that Brezel! They can also hook you up with some plain yellow mustard for the pretzel if you're like me and love regular old yellow mustard Along with food they have a long beer list, ciders, cocktails and wine. Hillgarten just opened a couple months ago and it had been on my list of places to try. It's a beer garden down in old Hilliard. It's all outside seating and you go up to order your food and drinks at an outdoor counter. I loved how this place was set up and it offers plenty of seating. They have a great draft list that offers all different types of beer from different breweries. It is a German place so they have German beers and German style food. My friend and I went and both got a flight of four beers and shared a jumbo pretzel with beer cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed all of my beer and the pretzel was good but not great. I like that they offer all different types of drinks from draft beer, to cocktails, to wine. They do offer meals but I would choose to go to this place more for the drinks and light appetizers rather than a place to eat dinner. All in all I thought this was a great place and if you're looking for a good spot to enjoy a drink outdoors then this is the place to be! Just note there isn't a parking lot so you'll most likely have to resort to street parking. Other than that the service was great, I enjoyed the drinks, and they play good tunes, you can't beat it! read more

Within the first few seconds that we walked in, we were greeted by a server who was very sweet and even took my empty plastic dora cup to dispose for me. The line for drinks was long, as they only have one register. But they have a good selection of LOCAL beers, as well as wine, mimosa, and sangria. We enjoyed some acoustic music while we sipped our drinks. The seating area seems small but has plenty of options, including a couple fire pits and umbrella covered seats. I really wanted to love it! The concept is great but they are very overpriced for what you get. If your going to charge $12.00 for a Brat you need to add a side other than chips. Not ask for $3.00 - $5.00 additional for one. The pretzel looked amazing and even though it is enormous, $16.00 is a bit much. Other German/Brewery restaurants charge $4.00 to $5.00 less for a similar size. Beer was a similar price to other bars/restaurants but considering the size of the beer it's pricy especially for a local beer brewed down the road. Hilliard needs some different places to eat, so I hope they make it but changes need to be made in order to survive in this economy. Just my 2 cents. read more
