The gentleman who I assume is the owner was so patient and helpful. He truly made the experience wonderful. I ended up getting a combo plate with polish sausage and pierogis! A great "North Market" experience. We tried the pierogies & spicy stew. My wife loved the pierogies. (they're just not my thing.....generally) The spicy stew was amazing. Very spicy & full of flavor (careful if you get heartburn easily) Cucumber Salad was also tried & we both enjoyed that VERY much. That's not to say I don't enjoy it, but I don't come across it very often wherever I am and I find it to be too heavy so I make sure I have room for it. This particular vendor offered a sandwich made with chicken cutlets topped with pickles, tomatoes, mustard and mayo. For whatever reason I don't seem to have the picture I took of the sandwich so I do apologize for that. I will say that the sandwich was quite delicious and the chicken was not dry like I would expect from a lot of places. Everything was good, but the kielbasa was my favorite item. I thought I would like the meiloni more based on the description, but it was very dense... still not bad though. I was overwhelmed by the kindness of the lady proprietor but underwhelmed by the food. She very kindly and patiently walked us through the various a la carte options on the menu and even threw in a extra pierogi that had started to split for free. We took our food to go and really couldn't identify a standout item between the pierogis, cabbage rolls, kielbasa sandwich, mielone and the regular or spicy stews (both of which are free with a meat purchase). Maybe the spicy stew which a had a sweet kick as well... The mielone is cheddar cheese wrapped in minced chicken with sauerkraut and deep fried. I should love this! But, the fried cube was tough to cut into and a little overdone in sections. There wasn't as much *pop* in the flavor department either as I would have expected from a combination of such tasty ingredients. A word to the wise, they prefer cash and access a fee for card transactions under $5. Not a problem; just an FYI. read more

I gotta say, I never really seek out Polish food. Perhaps it's because we don't have too much of it where I'm from, but when we smelled this place as we made a lap around the market, we had to stop by. We decided to pick up a couple of the pierogis, and man, I was impressed! I had had pierogis before, but in a smaller size, so it was so delightful biting into these pierogis. The filling was super flavorful, and the dough was tender. Service was great - the woman working there helped explain the options they had. If you haven't been to this market before, there is limited paid (cheap) street parking right outside - we went in the afternoon during a slow time so it was easy for us to find a spot. In terms of seating, there's places to sit and eat if you keep walking left of Hubert's. Hope to be back next time I'm in Columbus! read more

This vendor has been a long-time staple of the North Market and I've passed it many times without eating there, which is a shame because I am part Polish! I finally stopped in recently and was not disappointed. I tried the pierogis, a delicious chicken ball with a chunk of cheddar cheese in the middle, and the complimentary stew that was offered with it. The pierogis were huge and tasty and totally stuffed with potatoes. They're definitely super greasy but really delicious. The stew was a great dipper for both the pierogies and the chicken ball. This is the Polish food stall in North Market, and we tried the combo of the pierogi and cabbage roll. The cabbage roll is gigantic and filled with beef and rice, with spices, and topped with a tomato sauce complimentary. It is the standard cabbage roll but with a loooot of stuffing. I'm in town for work staying at a nearby hotel. Looked up the North Market on Yelp and kept seeing photos of these massive cabbage rolls. I knew I had to venture out and find them and that's how I stumbled upon Hubert's. I first walked by and did a browse of the entire market. I was greeted with a very friendly hello by Hubert himself on my walk around. I did let him know I would be right back and couldn't wait to try! What a friendly guy!!! Everything looked amazing. I am kicking myself for not trying a pierogi. I got a cabbage roll, a potato pancake and Hubert gave me a little sample of the mashed potatoes. I went upstairs to the dinging area to enjoy my meal. 10/10! I couldn't finish my food and brought back plenty for dinner later. The cabbage rolls are indeed massive. The potato pancake was so delicious! The mashed potatoes were also good, I just am glad I only had a tiny bit or else I would have eaten them all. I love polish food and back home it's hard to find in my area. So I was so excited to try out Hubert's and get my cabbage roll fix. Definitely recommend. read more

One of the few places in central Ohio serving the Eastern European food that reminds me of the food I grew up on. The stuffed cabbage rolls are delicious, and I recommend it with their pierogies. They're both almost as good as my mother used to make. The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. You cannot beat the marketplace type atmosphere here. Seven hours. I drove seven... long.. hours... most of it in pouring rain... for this... IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I was greeted by a friendly young lady whose family owns/runs the stand. She was quite helpful with answering my questions and was quick to get my order plated up and ready to go. The pricing ($18) was fair for everything. No complaints there whatsoever. Service was fantastic. The food was delicious. I felt that the golabki could have had more filling however ... on the whole it was tasty. Buraczki was delicious as was the pierogi and kielbasa. My only regret is not having more time in the city to sample some of their other offerings. Will definitely be back again when passing through Columbus. read more

How have I missed this? Of course, I haven't missed it. I've been here many times over the years. And I've reviewed it before. I'm not sure where that review went. Regardless, Hubert's is a North Market institution, even a Columbus institution. And Hubert is the center of the operation. There all the time, working hard, making great stuff. Place has not changed much over the years. And that's a good thing. All the basics. Pierogi, cabbage rolls, bigos , kielbasa, all sorts of cold salads and hot sides. Just excellent food. I've gotten everything over the years, and it's all great. I particularly like the bigos: a hearty stew of meat and vegetables. Organic and gluten free, I think. And tastes great. Get your parking pass stamped. Eat some here, get some to go. Try everything. You won't regret it. read more

Loved it! I've always passed by this place but never really thought to try it. I don't know a whole lot about Polish food. I was looking for a snack, so I decided to get the pierogis. They were $1.50 each so I got 3 to share with my friends! I think it was just potato, cheese, and carmelized onions. Pretty good! The guy put some sour cream on top. It was a huge dollop! Yummy! I was full. Service was great. They were really nice! One lady asked about my hair. LOL. Prices aren't bad here either. My friend says they cater. She had some of their food for a Slavic class. There are plenty of "smaller plate" options, so you can sample a few different things. What to get: Pierogies, Polish Sausage, and everything really What not to get: Sausage from anyone but me Wait what: Idk nm With so many options in the North Market in Columbus, it's hard to know what to get. If you like Polish food or haven't yet discovered Polish food or haven't had a good version of Polish food yet, then Hubert's is your go-to place. The pierogies are absolutely delicious. The sausages - kielbasa - are wonderful. Additionally, all of the various polish dishes are spectacular, such as stuffed cabbage and what not. The owner is a lovely wonderful guy who named the place after a dead family member that always wanted him to own his own restaurant. It was heartbreaking and beautiful to hear the story. The best time to come to Columbus to try this, and the other delights in town, is during the Arnold event across the street, because my goodness are there some spectacular people in this market during those days. So come and give Hubert's a try. 5 star food all the way. My personal favourite place in the North Market and it might be yours too if you give it a try. And if you want to listen to classical music while you eat, you should have gone instead to Schubert's. read more

I love polish food but have never tried Hubert's. Their food"looks" delicious! I finally gave in and got a cabbage roll, Sauer kraut and cucumber salad. I must say; everything except the cucumbers was incredibly disappointing. Cabbage roll was dry and flavorless.... sauerkraut was ice cold and rubbery and everything lacked flavor. I do NOT recommend Hubert's. $13 later and I can't bare to eat more than a few bites. Boo! read more

This is one of the best food stalls in North Market, as you get authentic other-world cuisine at street food prices. As an out-of-towner, I come here every time I visit Columbus, with the most recent time being this past week. They are always consistent with the quality of their tasty Polish food. The owner is very friendly and engaging and makes coming here into a great experience, rather than just picking up food. The potato pancakes (huge and very flat and crispy) are the top seller, so be warned they sell out if you come later in the day. Obviously the pierogi are also popular and sell for $1.50 each; they are very large, handmade, and are stuffed with cheese and other ingredients. There are two types of soup: lecso (a spicy Hungarian stew with lots of peppers and sausage) and bigos (sauerkraut stew). Try a sample -- they are both tasty but I preferred the spicy one even though I usually do not like spice. They have meat items such as mileones (chicken balls that look like croquettes), kielbasa (Polish sausage), chicken cutlet, and golabki (meat stuffed cabbage rolls). Some of the best stuff does not have meat such as the potato pancakes and pierogi, which you can order with Polish sides, such as beet salad. read more
