This is a sportsman's or woman's paradise! You will find all sorts of sporting equipment as well as clothing. This is such an amazing store. Believe it or not I have come here for field trips. This store is an educators dream as you can shop and educate at the same time. Some history: Scheels began as a hardware and general mercantile store in 1902 from a German immigrant who used his first $300 dollars that he earned from his potato farm to open his first store. It is now employee-owned and operated. The store didn't see sporting goods until 1954. Between all the sporting equipment on the second floor are 14 animatronic U.S. Presidents that give their famous speeches. The amount of information from the Presidents alone is astounding. Not to mention the huge selection of taxidermy animals usually with information on the animal and genus. Tons of information here. Some of the coolest fish tanks full of fish. Your child getting bored with shoppin? Why not take them to the toy Shooting gallery. Reminds me of the shooting gallery at Disneyland in Frontier land. There is a mini bowling arcade type game too. Did I forget to mention that there is a Ferris Wheel? Yes! A Full size Ferris Wheel! Adults can have fun too at the golf driving simulator. Yes this all cost a small fee to participate in. Did I mention there is a home decorating area? What if I get hungry? Yep they have that covered too. Wow. Just when I think I've explored all Scheels has to offer it surprises me again. We were searching for snowshoe rentals for a weekend and Schools fit the bill. We picked up the rentals from the rental / bike shop. They were $10 each and we had them through Sunday at noon after picking them up on Friday around 4:30PM. When we rented them I was able to get both pairs with my photo ID and info. The snowshoes came with gaitors and poles also. The gaitors were great for the wifey who chose to wear work out attire instead of snowboard pants. The employee was kind enough to come out of the shop and spend a few minutes showing us how to out the snowshoes on. The employee told us we had until Sunday. I didn't ask for a time or pay too close attention to the paperwork so I didn't realize we had until Sunday at noon. We took them back late into the afternoon on Sunday. The employee we returned them to told us we were a few hours late but he would let it slide. I panicked and he was kind enough to explain that he understands that sometimes people can't make it in on time. He even showed me where to look on the paperwork for the exact return deadline. Worse customer service ever!!! Got one 1 good sale associate out of 5! And a horrible manager! Either train your staff correct or put up the correct signs! I was ready to buy $200 ray bans and more. I was directed to the sales/clearance section by one of their sales associate. No sales tags were priced so I took it to the customer service and explained to them that I was shown to the sales rack their employee took me to. The manager told me he can't put ANY Patagonia on sale. (That's a new rule to me) I asked then why have it on the rack along with many others of the same items with a sign that states, "on sale, prices as marked" He responded "I'm sorry for the miscommunication of my employees but i can't do anything!" This is a huge sporting goods store. Scheels carries everything outdoors from firearms, bows, clothing, camping gear, boating gear etc. There is a huge aquarium which you walk through at the entrance along with a Ferris Wheel in the middle of the store! We were in Reno area a couple weeks ago and went to Scheels. It had been awhile since last visit. The layout of the store was great and displays were excellent. Previously we thought prices were high. but we found them very competitive. You can also find a great self sporting goods We shopped the shoe department where we got excellent help from Gabe Segura. I was at Scheel's in Sparks, NV and wow, that store puts Sportman's Warehouse to shame in every way. From the space to the layout to the inventory. They were well stocked with LIVE worms. Upon checkout, the cashier, who was very courteous, asked me if I checked the worms to see if they were good - imagine that, a proactive employee! The culture of Scheels seems to be much more customer oriented. Enormous selection with All-American themed culture from second amendment to pro service from supporting fire fighting to policing. Refreshing to see stores with this philosophy. Loved the fish tank and Ferris wheel along with the mannequins of American leaders of significance. In a time when politicians in this country are appeasing anti-Americans along with statutes being torn down, and the removal of the statue of Teddy Roosevelt at the New York Natural History Museum, Scheel's proudly displays President Roosevelt. read more

How can you be a fan of a place that caters to interests that you don't even do? This place was an unbelievable experience, and I didn't even buy anything! While driving up to Reno, the guys had to stop at Scheels to get "some ammo" as we pulled into Scheels. I had no idea what to expect. I asked why we coudn't just buy the ammo in California but that was another story. This place is amazing if you are a hunter , fisherman, archer, or any kind of outdoorsman. They have literally everything and several interactive areas. They have a shooting gallery, archery area, Ferris wheel . The staff are so helpful and friendly. I usually enjoy shopping at scheels. I've spent many thousands of donate there. However, I went in recently to purchase an expensive item requiring scheels to have a federal license, which they do. They had the item and I was done with the process successfully. When I tried to pay with cash, $2170, the associate advised they couldn't take cash for that purchase. They advised it must be on a card. I argued explaining I saved CASH to but the item but they refused to take the cash payment in full. They required the purchase to be on a card. Sensing a lot of bs I spoke to a manager who also said cash wasn't allowed. I can't believe it. So needless to say they will not get another dime, even if I find it on the ground. Don't ever let Scheels talk you into getting their credit card. My husband signed up for a credit card cuz they offered him 20% off and a $25 gift card on a large purchase so he went ahead and did it. Couple days later he called the number on the back so he could pay it off in full and they flagged his account as fraud! Never would send us a bill would not help us pay off the bill when we called he eventually had to go to his bank and have the bank manager call them so we could pay the freaking bill. First Bank of Omaha and their Scheels credit card is the worst ever don't fall for it! read more

Scheel's, you make the drive from Sacto, damn worth it! You have been $4-$5 less than the competitors! Woot! Woot! I'm saying that because we just visited the newly opened, Bass Pro Shop, in Rocklin, CA. They were over priced, especially for ammo. With the prices of ammo skyrocketing in the past few years, it's good to shop around. Scheel's has everything you need for an outdoor enthusiast! Two stories of every sport you can think of! I love the interactive displays. I end up at the shooting arcade while waiting for hubs to purchase his goods. I also browse around at the vast variety of clothing and shoes. It's not your typical sports men's warehouse, in which the clothing are made for people living in the woods. They have that and also clothing for the city folks. I love the wide variety of North Face, Columbia, and Under Armour clothing too. If you're from the Sacramento area, it's worth a drive to check them out. Scheels is one of my favorite stores to visit when I'm in Reno . I was rolling around with my Bro Big Mike - The Irish Enforcer in his 4 Wheel Drive Whip . We decided to roll by Scheels because they have a Huge Inventory of Outdoor Equipment. They also have a Huge Parking lot . So parking the Whip was easy . Then we rolled in . They have a huge Fish Aquarium in the entrance . There's even a Ferris Wheel in the Middle of the store . But I love their Gun Department its HUGE!!! They have a great selection of Firearms and Accessories. I also like their BBQ and Smoker selection . They have a Huge Cutlery selection also. Where do I start? That's the first question that popped into my mind when we arrived here a couple of months ago and saw an ad on this place. It claims that you can spend hours and hours here and I was a bit of a skeptic. Just driving to this place and realizing the gargantuan size made me giddy, and quickly realized that it was not deceptive advertising. Holy Cow, Batman! I was like a kid in a candy store as soon as we stepped inside. My mind kept wondering, "Where do I start?" over and over again as I was inundated with sensory overload....the good kind. My eyes quickly guided me towards the color of black and orange: my beloved San Francisco Giants. I saw a jacket there that was way way cheaper than the one back home so I bought it. The sales guy said he was a Giants fan too but I thought he was b*llsh*tt*ng in order for me to buy more. But it turns out he knew a lot about the Giants and watched their games too. He won me over by proving he was truly a Giants fan. So we had a nice chat until we got interrupted by a Cubs fan. WTF? For a sports geek like me, I was loving this place because it had almost everything. A Ferris Wheel right smack dab in the middle, giant-sized aquariums, shooting gallery, stuffed animals, sporting activities and more: Baseball gears, Basketball gears, Football gears, Softball gears, Hockey gears...you get the picture. But for me, the most exciting part was the gun section. Guns of all kinds where everywhere and I was just drooling at em. I'm not a hunter and live in a 'Blue State', but it's a constitutional right to bear arms. I live in California, so being exposed to this kind of merchandise was a culture shock...but the it's the kind of shock like loosing your virginity for the first time kind of shock. Y'know, I'm gonna be honest... I really like this place, but the prices... *phew! Makes me sweat just thinking about it! I go here with my family like 3 times a year, it's a great place to kill a couple hours! The kids can play in the play area, check out the beautiful fish in two different huge tanks, get some ice cream or other snacks in the cafe, or ride the Ferris Wheel. It's a great place to window shop and check out all the guns, bows, gear, exercise equipment, and much more. All that being said, I don't believe I've ever bought anything there other than ice cream, snacks, and the Ferris Wheel. It's just too expensive for anything there-I've seen socks listed at like $20 for a 3 pack, basic shirts for like $30, and basic underwear for $30. It's sort of ridiculous! I understand the high quality brands like Under Armor and 5.11, but basic stuff so high is a killer. It's a great place to bring out of towners and maybe that's where they make most of the money... Whenever I head out to the outlets, this is one of our main stops in Sparks. Am I necessarily looking for something when I stop by? Not really...I just love looking at the awesome fish tank and checking out all the clothing and sporting items. Prices are pretty expensive and at suggested retail price. Sometimes, you could find a decent sale. The store is huge and there's a Ferris wheel inside. They have everything from North Face items to Under Armour to official sporting items from the NFL, MLB, and what not. People are friendly here and the store is super clean and organized. I once hyperventilated at a Natural History Museum. Being around so many 'living dead' animals sometimes has that effect on me. So if you have the same sensitivity, this may not be the store for you. Actually, I was fine with the animals. It was the animatronic Walk of Presidents that gave me the heebie jeebies. Reagan was the worst. His eyes kept following me. I will not be shopping here alone at night. It is hard to know whether to review this as an entertainment venue or sporting goods store. When they opened in 2008, they became the World's Largest All Sports Store, so the sheer size of the building is astounding. This grand location of the Midwest chain is filled with special attractions which were a big hit with the kids. You can ride a massive 12-car Ferris Wheel [1], take a turn at the shooting gallery, or drive in a simulated NASCAR race. There are floor to ceiling aquariums that you walk under by one entrance and a Wildlife Mountain with stuffed game on the second floor... it just went on and on. So it is a fun place to visit and some of the attractions are free and others cost a few bucks worth of tokens. However, the shopping experience wasn't that impressive. I was looking for some specific items and couldn't find a good selection. How can they not stock a ton of UV shirts... in Nevada... in July?!? Even if they did, almost nothing was on sale. So it is definitely worth a visit for the entertainment value alone, but you'll probably end up buying elsewhere. I went in today to find the right conceal carry gun for me. My salesperson Jess was over to greet me quick and available to show me different makes and models. Her overall knowledge of each weapon was awesome. I feel confident that with her expertise, I left today with the right gun for me. The Customer Service and manager Erick were equally great. SCHEELS PROFILES BROWN PEOPLE - 2.5 months ago, my 10 year old Black son, was with 3 other Black teens at Scheels. My son decided to make a poor decision and tried to steal a football mouth guard. He was caught before actually leaving the store and when I picked him up, they told me he was banned from Scheels until he was 18 years old. I was upset with my son but he made a stupid mistake and I'm certain will not repeat that mistake. Fast forward to today, I decided to bring my daughter in to look at shoes and I brought my son with me, because we were running errands and I assumed that if my son was with his MOM, it would not be a problem. I was WRONG. We were inside for about 15 minutes looking at the shoes, when 4 Scheels employees surrounded us, showed me the flier with my son's picture on it, and reminded me he was banned and was trespassing. I asked if I could at least finish my transaction (I had a rewards gift card for Scheels from my Scheels credit card) and they asked me how long it would take. I was pretty shocked. Though I knew my son couldn't be in there, I couldn't believe they would kick out a paying customer (who has a Scheels credit card and uses it fairly regularly). My son, at 10 years, old made a mistake, but he was with his mom now and I was certain he wouldn't steal. I asked if they treated all kids that steal with this punishment. They would not disclose. However I'm sure that an average sized small white kid would not have ever been caught stealing because I'm sure that Scheels profiles and immediately watches any person of color that comes in the store. I mean how did they even recognize us? Supposedly the security guard recognized me from 2.5 months this ago. But I mean seriously, I was in the store 2.5 months ago and spoke to the security guard for 10 minutes tops. But out of the 1,000s of people that walk into that store daily, he recognized me? Little ol' me. And then knew who my son was because of me? I mean I know I'm beautiful but give me a break. When I asked if they watch people of color closely, it angered the security guard and he kicked me out. Anyway, 4 people escorted us out of the store because I did not want to give my money to Scheels after this experience. I gave away the gift cards I had planned to use and plan to cancel my credit card. I have a Scott Mountain bike that is out of warranty however I had a part fall off while riding ... which is somewhere up on a mountain. I thought perhaps Scott Corporate (in Utah) might make this right, so I went to Scheels since they're the Scott Dealer in Reno and I talked with Tyler Rich in the bike shop. HE IS AMAZING! He met with me for about 45 minutes ... giving me his undivided attention. He looked up the part I needed and said he would talk to the Scott rep and see if they could supply the part for free ... which they did. They shipped it to me as I live about 50 miles away and I was ready to go in a few days! While I was waiting for an answer, my wife & myself walked around their bike area as she is considering an E-Bike. They have a huge inventory and everything anyone could need. They even take in trade-ins for those who want to upgrade and this makes it affordable for anyone wanting to get in on an entry-level model and then upgrade later if that's what they want. What a great place to visit. We met our daughter and our four grandkids in the shopping area where the kids could run through wet boulders and the sprouting water. We couldn't believe this place with all types of shopping for everyone, from home decor to hunting. Don't mistake my 4 stars for any sort of downgrade on this store; it reflects my feelings when I'm in the store constantly lost. I legit need a shopping assistant there that can help me find what I need, the restroom and give me a grand tour. Being newer to the company & store, and being directionally challenged, this really makes it harder for me to want to go shopping. I've been in twice recently and saw different stuff each time although I know it's not like a lot of it was new, just new to my eyes. Might I suggest a map? I'm totally serious! Or at least signs in the store that clearly indicate what department is which and directional signs to the bathrooms, to the parking lot, and to the rest of the outlet stores! And the stores own branded merchandise is hidden for the most part, so big obvious displays throughout the store make more sense. What a cool place! We were visiting from out of state and came across this spot. Reminded me of a Dicks Sporting Goods and or Sport Authority , but "kicked up a notch"!! There is so much to explore, see, do & buy. 2 levels of everything from sportswear to fishing gear to camping gear and more. They have an interactive shooting gallery, sport simulators, buck hunting, golf, nascar, and a wildlife mountain! Sports apparel for the entire family, seasonal, a college pro shop and tons more! There is a restaurant, museums and a really huge fish tank displayed right in the front lobby. Fun place to visit, shop and let the kids discover.
