As always, Bobo's delivers. I had my old snowboard tuned up with a level 3 wax and an edge grind earlier in the season. With the lousy snow conditions, and all the ice we had, the wax was almost gone. I had a great powder day at Kirkwood and I could tell it was riding a little slow. I stopped in to see if they could do a quick wax for me since I was heading out again in a couple of days. I was able to get a level 1 wax on the spot and was out the door in less than five minutes. I am happy to give my support to a local shop that takes care of their clientele. read more

Went here for the first time to get my sister some rentals. For a one day snowboard and boot rental it was $35 plus tax which was pretty reasonable in my opinion. The customer service was great and very helpful with helping us find the right board. I love going to Bobos even though it's usually once or twice during ski season. Everyone there is helpful, friendly, and I always leave happy due to the positive vibe in the store. Last night I went in with my son and his partner and visited with them while they got new skis, bindings, ski wear, etc. The gentleman helping them was so helpful and really looked like he was enjoying his job and it was a great shopping experience. Packed, packed, packed, helping customers get fitted for Christmas weekend skiing. Prices are great and my son commented that prices were less expensive than the California ski shops where they live. I've been a loyal customer at Bobo's Ski Shop in Reno for years, but unfortunately, I won't be going back. Their service has gone completely downhill. I recently took my skis in for mounting and a tune-up, and the results were absolutely terrible. The mounting job was sloppy and clearly rushed, and the tune-up left my skis in worse condition than before. I'll be including pictures so others can see the poor workmanship for themselves.they made some errors than tried to redo the work without adequate spacing, causing for double punching holes. Also, they stripped out 4+ screws. On top of that, the boot fitting experience has also taken a nosedive. One of their boot fitters ripped me off by pushing me into an older pair of boots that weren't worth the price I paid. To make matters worse, they sold me footbeds that were outrageously overpriced. I used to trust Bobo's, but it's clear their attention to detail and customer care are no longer priorities. If you're looking for quality ski service or trustworthy staff, I strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

My friend and I stopped by to buy some equipment. The young girl helping us was super nice and patient. We both apologized many times for wanting to try different things as I understand it's annoying to take everything out of the boxes to let us see it and have to put it back. But considering we are spending a lot of money on these items we definitely wanted to make sure everything fits right. The younger girl was very nice and understanding, as well as patient and helpful. The older white lady on the other side though was extremely rude and kept mumbling little comments under her breath that were honestly quiet rude and both my friend and I felt extremely uncomfortable. I don't know if she was just racist because neither of us is white or if she was just having a bad day but considering we're willing to spend hundreds of dollars in the shop you would think she would wait until we left to make comments about us like a normal person. It was very disrespectful and uncalled for. We like to support local businesses. But honestly, I will not be stopping by here ever again. read more

11/11/21 Quality/Quantity - Good selection, probably the largest in Reno. Atmosphere - Small parking lot, lots of signs warning you not to park here and there. Parking lot sales are happening today also. Very busy, not sure if this is normal, or getting ready for the winter season, or due to the Veteran Day holiday. Service - Aggressive salesmanship. Sales person was "nice" but very aggressive with assumptive selling. They were helping multiple customers at the same time; not sure if that is a positive or negative thing. Lastly, after leaving, we discovered that his recommendation was wrong. Price - High prices, but good selections. Owner Suggestion - I left with a bad feeling - as if I should have bought something. You have good but aggressive salesman training, I would add a little more customer service training so the customers do not feel like we are at a used car lot. Is your team on commission? Also, you should compare your return and warranty policy with your competitors. Anyway, congrats on your 52 years of business, you seem very successful and wishing you the best. We ended up buying from one of your competitors, similar prices, but much less sales pressure. read more

If you are a skier, you know there is nothing worse than boots that hurt or don't fit. After breaking the cuff on my 1st pair of "good" boots that I'd had over 14yrs, I had decided this was the year for making the investment in the next 10+ years of family fun, exercise and enjoyment. When we made the choice to go Reno to visit family and to ski Tahoe, I was determined to find some new boots if the "feel" of the shop was right. The moment we walked into Bobo's Ski and Patio we knew we found the spot. They were busy. 1st good sign. They were asking great questions. 2nd good sign. They had lots of great gear. We have a tri-fecta. The experience was awesome. They had me try a few different boots. I am not pro, or super advanced, but above your average "intermediate." I also have been heavier, so a stiffer boot became my go-to years ago, only about 1 step below an entry race boot, I love the control and faster ski reaction. Due to a wide, thick foot, fitting can be challenging. Not here at Bobos. Theron Lee is a master. If you are looking to be fit by a professional, I am not sure there is anyone better. While there, I witnessed him make adjustments in minutes from just a few details provided by the skier and BAM! FIXED! We aren't talking tightening or loosening buckles, were talking grinding & modifying the shell, shaping the liner, super-heating, and cooling the shell to create the perfect feel. Eveb installing boot heaters for those super cold mornings (or if you have Reynaud's disease like my wifey!). While initially going for my boots only, we couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the hospitality and expertise. Theron made 1 suggestion, and it was good. I asked 1 question : "If not this boot, what other boot would you recommend?" He grabbed the Tecnica Mach Sport HV 120. WOW! The boots sucked my heel in, cupping both my Achilles like it was made for them. The food bed was close, it didn't instill 100% confidence, but Theron did. We decided to ride on the boots 1 day, and then come back for foot beds. WOW! That's it. WOW! First day was really good, but after the beds were made and installed, there was a night and day difference. It was like a custom seat in a rocket made for me. I fell in love with my boots. The foot-bed system of today is unparalleled, and Mr Lee is damn near a podiatrist and cobbler in one easy to talk to shell. This ultimate experience created in an environment that we were so comfortable, it would have been selfish to not have my wife experience the same feel, comfort and control of good fitting boots, and in spite of her protest, Theron and Steve were able to put a smile and bring a new level of confidence to my wife's beautiful face. To say we were "Wow-ed" is an understatement for sure. (On the way home, she thanked me for making her do things she doesn't always want to do, and REALLY loves her boots! All thanks to Bobo's!) To put the icing on the cake, I was looking to demo some skis before purchase. Pat and Steve did a little digging on my preferred ski style, time on hill, location, and geography of preferred ski resorts, and recommended the K2 Mindbender 89ti in a 170cm with a Marker binding setup. With no pressure, I was able to take the skis on the hill and, if I didn't like them, was assured they could be returned. No, thank you, these all mountain bad boys are MINE ALL MINE! It was like riding butter with steak knife edges! Total confidence and control, now time to up MY GAME to keep up with my GEAR!! It is my belief that anyone who is mildly athletic loves the outdoors and snow, wants to enjoy the alpine air from the side of a beautifully snow frosted mountain side should go see the team at Bobo's. I also could probably make a case that Bobo's PREVENTED future angst, misery, and potential injury from poor fitting rentals for my wife and myself. If you have the desire, ability, means, and inner burn to get on the slopes, but fear the pain, cost, or fit would get in the way, make tracks to Bobo's in Reno Nevada IMMEDIATLEY (or as soon as you need to, but you get the point!) You will NOT be disappointed, that I promise. They will be my shop of choice and will be back if we have family looking to be outfitted in the future. Bobos has been around for forever! Steve, the owner, is so nice and helpful. He could have easily sold us kid skis but gave us some great advice. Buying for the older and renting for the younger until the youngest can fit in the hand me downs would save us money. I always greatly appreciate honesty! We have been before for rentals for the kids and always have a great experience. We needed up at the tent sale and they had some good deals! Ended up being fitted for boots which took all of 30 minutes ish. First boot fit perfect and I am so happy with them! I can't remember the gentlemen's name right now but he was outstanding! Mt. Rose opened today, so this place was packed!!!! The lines moved pretty quickly, they were very efficient. We received lots of help on both sides of the shop for rentals for our son and clothing purchases on the other. Lots of cool stuff here!!! This place is legit !!!! Great customer service . I needed a board for a couple days and they provided. They had a lot of selection for renting and i asked if they had any Burtons and they did ! The Board was amazing perfect size and exactly what i wanted to shred on the mountain . They asked first off my riding style then gave me a couple recommendations! They know there stuff, Awesome and then i asked if had Burton for my riding style and yes they had a demo board literally brand new Burton Custom 158. Man what a great board . I also got boots too which were burton and they fit perfectly. Whats cool about this place is that for any reason you cannot actually go boarding on the days that you rented for you can get a rain check if you plan on coming back or if you do live in the area the next time you come back you'll get the same set up without any pay. I had planned to go to Mount Rose and they ended up being closed due to winds so since I frequent Reno enough because I live in California when I go back later this season I will be able to come back and get board bindings and boots with the rain check and that's pretty awesome. The prices are excellent Because of the quality of boards / skis / boots / bindings that you can get! Also if you're looking to buy they have tons of gear! Highly recommend this place!! Bait and switch. Told me $80 for stone grind, edge tune and wax over the phone. When I got there they indicated that they would need to do some base work for another $15 so now the total was going to be $95. When I picked up the skis the total charge was listed as $120 because they added another $15 for wax. When I reminded them that the wax was supposed to be included in the $80, they said that the included wax was only if they waxed it with their machine but they decided to iron the wax so it was another $15. Really? This seems typical of Steve Sheehan's business practices. On an earlier purchase, we were looking for some nice thin ski socks. Steve decided to sell is some cheap acrylic thin socks that didn't work for about $18. He never even offered to sell some nice Merino Wool socks (the best) at a higher price. When we returned to the store later and expressed our dissatisfaction with the cheap socks they just told us we were wrong and the cheap socks were really good and too bad for us. Most of their employees are great people. The owner's business policies are a 1 out of 10. At some point there will be much better competition in town that provides proper customer service and treats their customers with respect. read more

Every time I go in to bobos they treat me as if I don't belong there. Which is sad because I have been snowboarding for 7 years and I love their inventory. The other day I went in and they always try to offer me 'budget' items. As if I cannot afford anything else. They will walk past me when I need help. Last time I was in there, they kept treating me like I was going to steal, which is very disappointing, because I am very well off. this has happened the past four times I've gone. It's very upsetting because they also treat me like I don't know what I'm doing. I will no longer be attending boobs, and from now and I will be going to ski Pro. This is a nice locally owned shop. They have a lot of selection on various ski and snowboard items. I was in the market for some new clothing. I was impressed by how much variety they have. I like that the workers didn't seek me out to talk to me. That always kinda bothers me when staff does that. But rather while I was shopping I did notice the workers helping many different customers with various things. I believe the customer service is is really good and genuine. I've been an avid snowboarder for 30 years, and lived in Reno for 17 years. My first visit to Bobo's in 2006 was disappointing. I could get any help with snowboard boots, and ultimately bought from a shop in Sacramento. Mu second visit in 2012 was a flashback to 2006, every staff pointed me to a coworker until I was redirected to the person I had started with and that person had disappeared; I planned to avoid returning. This season, 22-23, Bobo's was a must because Mt Rose and the other ski shop in town were out of season equipment leases which I needed for my daughter. It was pretty hectic with lots of families scrambling to get equipment, but the staff was attentive and they seemed to have an efficient system in place. First day on the hill, at the base of the lift, and her boots would not fit in her bindings. All the effort and it was a no-go. The resort tune shop said the bindings were as open as they could be and the boots would not work, they could not adjust them any way. So we made our way back down the mountain, and headed to BoBos We were greeted after being inside for a few minutes by a soft spoken gentleman with a warm smile. He recognized me us from the crowded room when we first picked up the gear. He listened to what happened, sincerely apologized, and assured us he'd help make it better. Not only did he provide personal service, he collaborated in a friendly manner with his co-workers, and their team got my daughter in proper boots, with better skis and the bindings and tension was double checked. My daughter needed a new helmet - when i walked in I was expecting a hassle, I was expecting to be ignored, to have our issue prolonged, and there was no way they would have other equipment. There was also no way I was buying a helmet from them, I'd rather drive across town given the experience to that point. That gentleman, and the entire team - they made a huge positive impression. They did everything to make it better, and they did it with sincere kindness. So yeah, we also got a great helmet at a great price. Before we left, I made sure to thank the gentleman, who was helping someone else with sincere kindness, and let him know I was grateful. He made the situation as good as it could have turned out given the circumstance. That gentleman's name is Steve. I have since learned that Steve is one of the owners of Bobo's. He spent hours with my family, pulling every boot possible to make sure we were comfortable. He never pushed us to purchase but instead wanted us to be comfortable with the product he was showing us! I decided to browse Bobo's to view their selection of skis, snowboards, outerwear for the snow and everything in between. I found a cute helmet and goggles which I wanted for when I go back to falling down the hill. Luckily, for me the clerk let me try on both to make sure they fit. I also grabbed some gators that can also double as a face mask, which are required at all ski resorts due to COVID. When I got home I checked the prices of both items versus what they are being sold for at Amazon and both items were the same price! Everytime I go here I'm beyond pleased with the service. My board broke at the end of the season last year so last week I went to bobos to see if they could fix it. When I got there half the store was flooded due to a pipe bursting. Long story short they couldn't fix the board and couldn't sell me a new one because the store was close but without hesitation the owner offers to cover a rental for the day. Very disappointing. I went to Tahoe Sports Hub in Truckee the next day. In Truckee, you can make an appointment, the service is much better, and they had a larger selection of boots. It's a shame that this is Reno's biggest ski shop. When there's minimal competition, businesses get lazy, and consumers suffer. Reno is ripe for another big ski shop to open up and take a big piece of the market. read more

My daughter and I were able to get fitted for rentals for the season pretty quickly right after NYE. My daughter's bindings failed while at the ski resort, they were tested by the Mt. Rose technicians, luckily she was able to get a rental pair for the day. We went back to Bobos, they tested the bindings there and they failed. The team refunded us the youth season's fees and gave us a new pair of skis. Great customer service! We ended up buying new goggles, and new gloves for her there so it was a wash. This store has newer high end ski equipment from top brands, from boots to skis we were outfitted in great gear. In the past we rented from a chain based in the Bay Area, their equipment was so-so. From now on we'll rent gear from Bobos, price, service, all incredible and worth it. What a fantastic shop in Reno! read more

Took my board here for an edge tune and wax. Told me they had to take my bindings off. That's pretty normal. I say "ok". The older guy took my board as the young lady wrote me a receipt. He proceeds to place his pizza that he was eating down on my board as he takes my bindings off. I'm thinking, that's one way to wax a board. I grab my receipt and leave. The guy chases me outside and says "you can't leave your bindings here, we have no room for it". I'm a bit confused but I say "ok". I've had my board maintenenced before and it's the first time I came across this. I guess they don't want to be liable for it while it's not attached to the board. I come back the next day. Grab my board. I notice that my board looks dusty and not as clean as when I brought it in the previous day, after a day of riding. I let it slide, thinking to myself it'll be clean after I'm done riding at the end of the day, no biggie. One guy asks if I want the bindings put back on. "Sure, thanks". When he's done I grab my board and go. This is where I messed up by not actually inspecting my board before I left. I was meeting some friends at northstar and it didn't occur to me to check. I go to pull my board out my trunk by the bindings and notice it fidget as I do so. I look down to imspect the bindings and one of them was not fully secured to the board. Bindings, if installed properly, are not supposed to move at all. As I inspect the bindings I notice an indentation on the top edge of my board that goes all around the whole circumference of the board. I also noticed a nicked spot on the top side of the board. Wax was still on the edges of different areas of the board. And the lament on both ends, of the top side of my board, seem to have small air pockets. The indentation that goes all around the board is not something that naturally happened, nor the air pockets. In other words, there's no way that indentation can happen, around the whole top side of the board, from just going down the mountain. The nicked spot can be debatable. But I highly doubt it because I clean my board of snow and ice when I'm at the bottom of the mountain and right before I put it in my trunk. Not to mention, I also bought the board last year but I digress. The air pockets I have no idea how that even happens. I've had a previous board for 10years and never seen that before. I can only imagine something hot must have touched it. They didn't even clean off the markings they made on my board when they traced out my bindings before they took it off ‍ I don't like to leave bad reviews but this place has messed up multiple times on one visit. There was a lack of professionalism at each point of interaction. From the handling of my board when they received it to when they put the bindings back on. The only person who seemed to know what he was doing was the guy taking my money. I don't mind my board not looking perfect as long as it still rides well. But the fact that they didn't mention their mess up tells me they don't want to take accountability for their mistakes. There is no way that they didn't notice it. If I saw these marks and they were upfront about it I would've let it slide. Mistakes happen. But the fact that even the bindings weren't secured properly. That's insult to injury. I've bought items from this store before, rented a ski set up once, and also rented some boots. The skis were mediocre and the snowboots I had to keep tightening throughout the day because the boa system kept lossening up. Shout out to Tahoe Dave's in Truckee/Tahoe. If you want quality rentals that's the place to go. If you want your board maintenenced I suggest you go find someone who is passionate and would be proud of their work. These people here are obviously not those people. I'm gonna give "big mountain ski tune" in south reno a try next time I get the feeling the employees here are mostly seasonal workers or people moonlighting trying to make extra money with a supplementary job. Either that or this place is horrible at training/choosing their employees. Either way, I'm done with Bobo's. I'd rather have to pay extra for quality work than to deal with this BS again. read more

First of all I am not one to review anything on the internet. I have become more and more aware of which businesses take advantage of consumers and charge ridiculous amounts of money for goods and services just because people will pay them. I took my skis to Bobo's for a tune. I had hit some rocks up skiing, not horrible, did not hit the core of the skis. I asked the tech how much it would be for a stone ground, wax and sharpen. He said $110. I looked at him and said are you serious? He said that's what they charge. That's more than 10% of what I paid for the skis at the beginning of the season. I had just got a similar tune a month earlier at SkiPros and they charged me $60. I told the tech I would not pay that amount for a tune and minor repair. I then took the skis back to SkiPros and they charged me $60 and did a wonderful job. Also it was Thursday. They said they would have it back to me on Sunday - 4 days! SkiPros did it in one day and called me when it was done. Now that is service! So if you want to get ripped off and have your tune take 3 more days to get back, go to Bobo's! read more

The first time I came here was with a friend(an old customer), and we were shopping for a helmet and getting his board fixed. And at that time the experience was pretty good. Then today I stopped by to shop for snowshoes, I waited and looked around for 10 mins for help, but since no one wore a uniform or a tag, I didn't know who were the employees and who were the customers. There were two employees that I identified but they were busy with their customers, I tried to wait for them by sitting on the bench researching things on snowshoes for a while but they were still busy, so I grabbed a pair of snowshoes and walked to the counter right by the front door, I stood in line for about 6 mins and the employee was still helping the same customer with ski stuff, so I walked deeper inside the store and found a counter where it's right by all the ski goggles, and I asked a guy about the snowshoes, and he said "I'm sorry, but I don't work for that section so I don't know anything about snowshoes if you could walk over snowshoes section and someone in that area will help you." I replied," I couldn't identify any employee and no one came to ask me if I needed help." The guy asked another guy behind the counter to read the label attached to the snowshoes to see if the answers I'm looking for is in there. And he found the answer to one of my questions. Anyway, I made the purchase today because 3 weeks ago I purchased a helmet from here, but I didn't know about the policy of "after a week it'll be store credit for returns only"(I vaguely recall they told me about it, but I just didn't remember it). So I had no choice but to purchase the snowshoes there. Otherwise, I would have gone to REI for that since I am a member there and they usually have employees that are free to help out. Conclusion: I know nothing about snowboarding and skiing so I can't comment on the selections. But for snowshoes, they only have very limited selections, about less than 7, and some of them are for kids and women. Based on the service I received today I will not be shopping for winter sports gear there in the future. They are too busy for new customers. But their strategy of chatting and remembering old customers' names and spending more time with old customers will definitely help them keep the old customers loyal to them. Great ski shop in Reno, awesome selection, with knowledgeable staff. K-Mack and Steve are some great all school, good ol'boys. Take good care of you. They gave me a great deal on latest Salomon bindings and mounting, tuning. They accommodated on the fly(few shops do, especially on a pow day). Work was done perfectly and on time.
