The restaurant can definitely get loud as it is quite busy, but the food makes it well worth it. You have to get the Spaghetti. You won't find a better dish that is nearly as simple. read more

Decor, ambiance, food, and service all A+! I've never been to Scarpetta but passed it many times while in the city. I happened to mention to my friend that I was thinking of trying it to see what the hype was. I had no idea she'd practically force me out of my bed on a late Friday night to schlep from Brooklyn to Scarpetta, BUT SHE DID and didn't give me any other options (wish you could see the text messages between us. Shes relentless!) Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and quickly seated to be served. The warm breads and water first came out shortly followed by our orders. The food and service were perfect! We had the most flavorful scallops melting like warm butter in our mouths, tender, and perfectly charred octopus, duck, halibut, ravioli, wine, and cocktails. We wanted to eat everything on the menu but decided to not be greedy, especially since we were the last in the restaurant and the staff were most likely patiently waiting for us to leave so they could close for the night. The late night schlep to Scarpetta from Brooklyn was worth the expensive Uber drive, and yes, I'd most definitely be returning for more soon! Definitely recommend! read more

Packed on a Wednesday night. They gave us a bar table where it was too noisy so we moved. This review is solely for restaurant week. Very disappointed in the dumbed down portions. People next to us did not get restaurant week and you could see the same food but much larger portions, particularly the polenta. Only 4 entree options. Branzino was good but one note with nothing on the plate. Best part was desserts which were normal size. I do not recommend this place for restaurant week. Came here on Saturday night for a friend's birthday dinner and had a good time! Ambiance was 10/10. The drinks were delicious. I ordered the margarita Italiana and loved it! So I didn't get the infamous spaghetti, which I'm a little disappointed by but that means I'll have to come back. However, we ordered a few appetizers that included the raw yellowtail, which was okay, tuna suschi (very truffley and wasn't a fan). For some reason, our waiter said that the portions were large and shareable so we ordered a few dishes. Not the case at all, which I expected so not sure why he told us that. Because we only ordered two pastas and the muscovy duck the manager raved about (he said it was life changing... it was definitely far from that) we obviously were left so hungry! I will say, I would definitely go back and order the cacio e pepe ravioli because it was so good. Now I did only have two pieces, but would for sure recommend. This is a solid place with great food, but it's pretty expensive. As long I'm not buying though you can absolutely count me in, I love a hotel restaurant. Yellowfin crudo and octopus were my favorites, short rib agnolotti was too rich/sweet for me. The complimentary bread was SOOO good I could've eaten just that as my whole dinner. Wow x5! Came here for a birthday dinner and was a recommendation from a friend. We had a reservation for 6pm, showed up at 5:55pm and was sat down immediately in the restaurant area. The bar area seemed to be filled with people enjoying happy hour in their post-work attire. We were served bread right away -- amazing selection! Our server gave us menus and asked about allergies right away, as well as going over the whole menu with recommendations. All of the food and drinks were beyond delicious. WOW WAS I WRONG Italian is definitely my top three favorite food groups and let me say this place quickly rose to the top of my Italian recommended places. We walked in for our 10pm reservation, although we waited almost 40 mins before we were sat. The waiter promptly brought over a bottle of Prosecco on the house since there was such a delay in seating. Mind you it was a Friday night and it was fairly busy. The waiter then came over brought us complimentary bread with a few spreads and went over the menu while asking us what we had a taste for. I really appreciated the effort he took in getting to know our likes and dislikes and didn't rush us at all in ordering. East Village Pizza is SOOOO good--easily one of the best I've had! They have a great variety of vegetarian options, which is fantastic. Anwar was incredibly kind and patient, taking the time to explain all the different pizza choices. They also offer pizza by the slice, which is a plus. Oh, and don't forget to try the cheesy garlic knots. The prices are reasonable, especially for the exceptional taste and quality. My favorite was the focaccia. Went with a big group and was able to sample a little bit of a lot of different dishes. One of my favorites was the grilled branzino - perfectly tender and the sweetness of the fish was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of salt. I HIGHLY recommend the tomato basil spaghetti - such a simple, yet highly palatable dish. That was by far my favorite dish, but I do wish you were able to add a protein to it. Fancy Italian restaurant located inside a hotel. It has a dark and moody interior that would make it a great date spot. They have a lot of waitstaff - it almost felt like there were as many of them as customers at times. But it did mean that the service was good and very reachable. Also, they kindly brought our friend some biscotti and a candle for her birthday. The place does get very crowded. They're known for their pasta, which they say they make in-house. Our waiter recommended the spaghetti but I think $36 for pasta, tomato, and basil is a little steep lol. They have an amazing complimentary bread basket - they were all great breads but my favorite was the one that was like a "pizza" with meat/cheese. Burrata ($24) - this was good, but not mind-blowing. It came with 2 small pieces of burrata but the flavor combo was nice - the apple was a little overpowering though. Paired nicely w/ the bread. Lobster Tagliolini Nero ($42) - this was great, but the squid ink flavor didn't really come through. It had a plentiful amount of lobster though. Pasta was perfectly aldente and chewy. Branzino ($42) - I tried a piece of this and it was quite good. A bit crispy, which I liked, and flavorful. Came here for dinner on a weekday to catch up with a friend from west coast that I haven't seen for 10 years. Other than getting food poisoning the next day, we both enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Service was good and the waitress checked on us every 2 seconds. Lots of after work happy hour ish gatherings, and the lighting is pretty dark but good for a first date maybe? Lol I started showing symptoms of food poisoning the next day around 10, we finished our dinner around 8:30 on the night before. I wasn't sure and didn't want to believe that i could have gotten it from here. Yellowtail sashimi, lobster pasta and black cod. I reached out to the restaurant but never heard back. Just wanted to asked if they had other customers that had the same problem. And definitely, definitely would not want to come back here at least in a long while. I'm traumatized now when I look at seafood or any raw foods. First timer for food poisoning, and the same weekend I had to miss out on a luxury Malibu wedding food. :/ So, if you have important things planned after eating here, I would recommend being basic and avoid the seafood. If you search food poisoning on yelp review, Scarpetta had this happen before. Or maybe I just had a really bad reaction? Either way, choose wisely. I absolutely love this place for breakfast & lunch -it's the reason I tolerate some of the issues I don't love about The James Hotel which is connected-- that said, the James is stil a good option for a stay if NoMad is where you need to be for the sake of convenience -- there is also a busy but fun lounge downstairs for after dinner drinks w/ a DJ- their bread is amazing, the salad greens are so fresh -- their pasta and espresso martinis and lattes and eggs served on top of lentils make the best breakfast ! Focaccia bread with three different spreads were a complimentary delight. $120 Truffle Pasta - tasted like Alfredo with truffle shavings. It was delicious and worth a try. You basically pay for the truffle shavings. Traditional Spaghetti - it had a sweetish sauce taste. It tasted a bit like chef boyardee. But a fancier version. I think if we can add something to it, might make it worth it. The moscovy duck was worth the buy. It did not have that strong duck taste. It was tender and warm. I recommend to try this dish. Halibut was good with the sauce. It needed zest or citrus to it. The birthday girl really enjoyed it because she poured a lot of the sauce (from the plate) on it. Eat it with the sauce! Scallops were delicious. Nice and brown on the sides. You can taste the olive oil marinated inside. Diced apples were a part of the dish. The burrata is well worth it. The cheese was fresh and tasted great with the sauce and fig. The raspberry drink was alright. It was a fizzy juice like drink. I enjoyed the espresso drink. Had a strong espresso taste. The presentation of the pastas are beautiful; they put on a "mini show" by opening up the lid at the same time, making it very "instagram worthy" and cool! However, the portion size is VERY small.. we finished our pastas after couple bites; but this was okay because we were asking for refills on our bread baskets :D It definitely is on the pricey side, but I think most of it is for the ambiance and service. Scarpetta was the most overrated, well-known spot that we went to in NYC. I had high hopes and was so excited to make the reservation. It had been on my bookmark list for ages, so was looking forward to the meal. We arrived just a few minutes before our reservation, but had to wait close to an hour to be seated at our table. Our reservation was for 9pm and we didn't eat until far after 10pm. I will say that the cocktails and the atmosphere were both great, but everything else was lacking. We sat in the main dining room at a small table and were served their house bread which was pretty darn good. For food, we shared a few appetizers and entrees. The burrata was fresh and creamy, but the dish lacked flavor. Presentation was gorgeous though, which was the same across the board. The scallop appetizer was delicious, but 3 scallops for $30 wasn't worth it. For entrees, I had the foie gras agnolotti and my friend had the spaghetti. Again, flavor wasn't there. Everything needed salt. Our experience would have still been okay, but sadly we were seated directly next to a couple that was inappropriately touching each other for the entire hour we were there. It was so bad that the manager had to come over multiple times to ask them to stop, but they were never kicked out. The manager also came over to us and another table in the vicinity and apologized multiple times. After the 3rd apology, he stated "I am super sorry.. I will take care of you guys", but still did not ask the couple to leave. We would have asked to move, but there were no empty tables in the dining room. Can't complain at all about Scarpetta. The hostesses and the waitstaff were incredibly accommodating and professional. It is difficult to find that level of service even when it is an expensive meal. The pasta was superb. We got the cacio e pepe, duck and foi gras ravioli, spaghetti, veal tenderloin and the burrata. I think best to stick with the pastas, the veal tenderloin, although cooked perfectly, did not have any flavor. The cacio e pepe and the ravioli were very flavorful, but better as a side, not a main course. The portion sizes are probably recommended sizes, but if you are really hungry, get at least an appetizer. Btw for all those with toddlers. The restaurant is attached to a hotel. And you use the hotel restroom for Scarpetta. There are two staircases that your tot can climb up and down to kill some time and energy if needed. Very good Italian meal in NY, but the wait to be seated was ridiculous. We had an 830 reservation, we checked in at 830, and we were not seated until 925. The hostess kept saying that they were waiting for tables to leave to seat us but 55 minutes after our reservation time is insane. So happy the food made up for this! Sommelier helped us pick an amazing bottle of wine! We ordered the yellowtail crudo, the octopus, the lobster pasta, cavatelli pasta, ravioli cacio y Pepe, and the Branzino! The octopus was a highlight! So tender. All the pastas were delicious and you could taste they were handmade and the branzino was amazing with the herb pesto sauce it came with! I've been to Scarpetta multiple times in the past and always had a great experience. Unfortunately, I haven't been since the COVID-19 pandemic hit but recently I used a day off of work as an excuse to go for weekday lunch with one of my colleagues. I'm glad to report that the experience was still as good as I remember. Everyone knows about the amazing complimentary bread basket and classic spaghetti, but many of their other dishes are also worth checking out. For lunch, they offered a three course pre fixe menu for $45, which I assume was a Restaurant Week special. I tried the raw black bass, branzino, and panna cotta. I always enjoyed the crudi at Scarpetta and the black bass was no exception. It was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of salt, acid from the blood orange, texture from the crushed pistachios, and a hint of spice from the aleppo. Then came a generous portion of branzino which was perfectly cooked and complemented well by a sauce featuring capers. It was a simple but beautiful dish. I am usually not a big fan of panna cotta but this one was full of surprises including rose gelee and yogurt sorbet. It was a great way to end the meal. This place has such good Italian food!! I came here for a birthday celebration and we were seated on a circular table amidst classy decor and a fairly dimly lit room. First of all, like many of the reviews already note, their starter bread was so tasty!! There is a variety of breads and the pancetta+cheese roll bread is SO good. We shared a couple of appetizers - noteworthy were the scallops, and the beet salad. Both were super flavorful and the scallops were seared perfectly. For my main, I got the cacio e pepe ravioli, which was such a good decision haha. It didn't look like traditional ravioli squares, but the pasta was filled with cheese and a warm butter sauce. I wasn't expecting the butter but the mix of melted butter with the more traditional cheese filling was one of the most tasty pastas I've ever had!! I would go back just for this dish!! To end, I shared the semifreddo which was nice and spicy due to cardamom. Also a dessert that I've never had before, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It came with a mango compote on top, that contrasted the spicy cardamom really well. Overall this place is definitely worth visiting!! It's a bit pricer, but if you are looking for a nice place for a celebration or just a great dinner from start to finish, this is your spot!! Recently tried scarpettas with a few friends. The atmosphere was very classy and elegant. Our server was very nice and gave us a very thorough walk through of the menu. We had a reservation so didn't wait at all. We got an appetizer - the braised short rib which was very very tender and delicious - packed with flavor. For entree I got the spaghetti and I understand why this is the most popular item. The sauce was super rich and filled with flavor. You can tell that a lot went into the sauce.
