Good food, great staff, and a very laid back atmosphere! There were 4 of us and we ordered fried green tomatoes, pulled pork, chicken, sausage , and catfish sandwich!

Carolina Hot Dog (chili, slaw, and mustard). Side of sweet potato fries. Honey mustard for dipping.

I tried the Carolina Hot Dog for my first time, and it was so full of chili and slaw that I ate it with a fork and knife. Haha. It was delicious. Sweet potato fries were hot. Definitely request a side of honey mustard for dipping. Service was great. Food came out sooooo fast. This is important to know if you want a paced experience. But if you need a quick bit, Saw's is the place! It's spring and just warm enough to sit outside but not too hot yet. Perfect patio weather.

Delicious food and a super waitress. Not from the area so happy to find this one on YELP.

Very casual, delicious spot. Our server was extremely attentive and gave us a good rundown of the menu. We got the fried pickles to start which were perfectly crispy and what I would expect from the dish. She recommended the chicken thighs and because we weren't starving we decided to share the plate with a side salad. The chicken thighs were indeed tasty!! Juicy, tender, and loved the two bbq sauces. I didn't expect much from the wedge salad, but the blue cheese dressing was great. Not too overbearing. The live music was a nice touch and we are excited to come back!

Place is impressive. Had the sweet tea fried chicken, greens and fried green tomatoes. Sandwich out of this world with the white sauce. I don't even like greens much and they were so good. Tomatoes excellent. Just wished I could have tried the great pudding everyone is talking about. I am stuffed!

Best Fried Chicken Sandwich + Desserts + GREAT SERVICE I did learn about the Palmer Bros while eating incredible food.

Catfish N' Greens & Bushwacker

This place is right up my alley. It's basically a dive, but a BBQ joint should be. Sat out front. The catfish was delicious. The food came quick. Our waitress took time to help us choose. And the Bushwhacker a friend recommended was great. After we ate, we stopped inside at the bar due a drink before ordering an Uber, and the bar was even more my style. Classic country low key, but with a cool bar. I'd come back often.

Love sitting outside saws. Bring the dogs! The wedge with sweet tea fried chicken is amazing!! Also love their frozen cocktails. Best ranch in town. Service can be slow when they get super busy but you can tell they are working hard! When it's not crowded they are super fast!!

You can never go wrong with Saw's. I came here with some coworkers of mine on our lunch. I had to make the hardest decision between a chicken baked potato, Saw burger, or a catfish sandwich. I decide to go with the Saw burger and fried green tomatoes. OMG the fried green tomatoes were so fresh and hot, and the burger did not disappoint. I love there burgers because they are hand made patties and cooked fresh. This lunch was so fulfilling that I had enough for leftovers!

Decent BBQ. Not a very big menu but how many ways can you BBQ meat? The chicken thugs were good, pickles very salty. Drink lots of water.

Sat at the bar and for the majority of the time i was the only person there. If this is a "brewery" why did they only have two of their own beers on tap? very strange. I noticed what looked like a board that used to list all their own beers on tap that was abandoned and now just a sad white board lists their two beers and a bunch of other standard beers you can get on tap anywhere. Supposedly they have a kitchen? i saw no menu, or kitchen hours, or anything about any food. Bartender only appeared to refill my glass then quickly disappeared into the back room. If you dont want beer they have a very sad hard liquor selection that looks on par with a college kids apartment. The kicker was when closing out on the ipad the tip amounts were defaulted to 25%, 35% or 45%! Very generous amounts for pouring a beer, i decided to leave my own amount for a tip. Trying not to rag on what sounds like a small family run business, but wow that was bad.

As I walked in the bartender yells at me, "What part of banned for life don't you understand....?" Fortunately, the PTSD keeping me on perpetual edge kicked in immediately and I responded, "Hey you're wearing my t-shirt you... give it back. And, how can I be banned from a place I've never been before?" The bartender and I then got down to the long history of Marty's PM (formally in Five Points), the legal and jurisdictional control of lifetime bans, and general 'long time no see, how you been?' chit chat. The place is situated in a nearly empty strip mall, which gives it a slightly post-apocalyptic vibe. It was nevertheless pretty crowded. They seem to be serving the same healthcare professionals/biker crowd that used to populate the 5-points version back in the day. I didn't try the food, but it looked pretty good. The prior version had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches to be found. My only knock on the place would be the lack of draft beers. I toughed it out drinking Jack and Cokes. It's a little out of the way for me, but I suspect I'll be back sooner rather than later.

Soup changes daily and this day was chickpea and chorizo. Nothing life changing about it but it wasn't bad. We walked into a small, dark, crowded dive bar and ordered amongst several other people after waiting in line shoulder to shoulder with other customers. I say this not to complain (because with a crowd like this on a random weekday, they're obviously doing something right) but to take your kids in car seats (‍) with caution. Crowds in small spaces stress me out and it would have been even worse if we'd had the boys with us. I'd also highly suggest going on a day when you can sit outside. There's very minimal seating inside. They do have a lovely, spacious patio that also feels like a garden with plenty of trees for shade. However, they make it clear they don't want dogs there. Parking was horrific. A narrow street with cars on each side. We barely fit through it. If there wouldn't have been an open spot on it, I'm not sure what the next option is because I didn't see anywhere else and this street only held so many. I would dine here again because the sandwiches were fresh and delicious and they obviously know what they're doing! I was pleasantly surprised that they had prosecco as well. Just heed my few warnings and you'll enjoy as well!

They had some barstools, but for the most part Avondale is BYO chair. I brought a towel to sit on. The upper deck was nice because it was shady on a hot day. Then, you're only one flight of stairs away from the bar right below. Avondale makes great beers. I had a Sour Pash, one of my favs, and a couple cans of Porch Light, made by Cahaba Brewing's company. In addition to great beers and drinks, I was hungry for some food. The nearly always have 1-3 food trucks parked right on the lawn, and they offer Miracle Pizza now! I ordered from a QR code inside, and Miracle brought the pizza over from right next door. People often host their own little parties and events at the picnic tables here. I came on a Sunday afternoon, and it seemed like a lot of families came for lunch and to hang out after church. The food here is certainly impressive food for a bar to me. I love the wood fired pizzas. I will say, I think the size is a bit awkward. They're a little too big to be a single serving, and a little too small to be for two people. The beer is all good. Service at the bar always friendly. The fries here are some of my favorite in town. They've got a huge selection of beers and a full dinner menu, so there's something for just about everyone. Whether you're coming for drinks or planning to eat, you won't feel limited. Parking is plentiful, which is always a win in Birmingham, and there's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It works well for small groups or larger parties. One thing to know going in: this isn't really a full-service setup. You order and pick up your own food, and aside from someone occasionally clearing empty pint glasses, there's not much table service. We actually didn't receive utensils with our food and had to go back up to the counter to grab some. Not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. I ordered the catfish sandwich with fries. The sandwich itself was delicious -- crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. My only small gripe was that it came in a to-go box. I understand it probably makes cleanup easier for them, but it does take away a bit from the dine-in experience. The fries were shoestring style, which just aren't my personal favorite. They're fine, but I always feel like I need about three handfuls to feel satisfied. We went on a Saturday night and the brewery was packed -- and I mean packed. It was very loud and definitely more of a party atmosphere than a relaxing dinner vibe. If you're looking for a quiet night out, this probably isn't it. But if you want energy, beer, sports on TV, and a fun crowd, this place delivers. Overall, it's a great hangout spot to catch a game, grab a drink, and enjoy good food -- just expect a lively, high-energy scene.
